Welcome to HowToCookThat, I'm Ann Reardon and today this week we're making a Belle cake

from Beauty and The Beast.

The first thing you'll need to do is make up the chocolate cake recipe and bake that

in 2 round tins and 1 heat-proof glass bowl and we'll use that bit for the top of the

dress.

Once they're baked just level those and then we need to make our frosting.

For that I'm going to use some buttercream and also some ganache, we'll mix that in just

for the bit that goes on the outside not for between the layers.

The reason for that is that it's a little bit softer and I don't want the layers to

slide off each other.

I'm also going to flavour that using some Rose Water and colour it with a little bit

of pink food colouring.

Now Rose Water, for those of you who are in Australia, New Zealand and I think the UK,

tastes a bit like musk sticks and Turkish Delight.

For those of you in the US (and other countries) if you don't like that rose-type flavour then

you can always colour yours yellow and make it lemon flavoured or just leave it plain

vanilla buttercream.

Spread a small amount of frosting onto a round cake board and add your first cake.

Brush that with simple syrup, now this just helps keep the cake moist, I've added some

more rose water into this syrup too to intensify that flavour.

Spread on a layer of your buttercream, making sure it is level then add your next cake on

top.

Spread that with frosting as well, smoothing it out, and then add the bowl cake to one

side on the very top.

Now take your Belle doll and wrap her hair in plastic wrap so that it doesn't get frosting

in it, and then wash and dry the body of the doll as well.

Using a long knife cut straight down into the cake, you want to put it slightly over

to one side and make it a skinny rectangle, don't make it too big because it needs to

firmly hold the doll.

Use a fork to take the cake out of the hole.

And then push ... the doll.. down ... all the way ... into the cake.

Now what we want to do is shape the cake so that it doesn't just sit straight down, we

want it to have a little bit of movement to the dress.

So we are going to make it so she's holding it up on one side and we can see the layers

of the dress underneath.

Start by carving the curve of the bowl off and just angle it up towards the waist so

that it is not quite so rounded and it doesn't look like a bowl.

Then follow that down at the front and down on the right hand side to make it smooth,

down and out towards the base.

Smooth it in the same way at the back, angling it down towards the bottom cake.

But don't cut it on the other side because that is where we are going to make her dress

come up to her hand and then flow back down.

Use your knife to cut out an indent right down the middle of the dress, it doesn't need

to be very deep just a little bit.

And continue adding more of those, making sure they are evenly spaced.

There should be 6 indents altogether.

Mash the cake offcuts to make a paste like you would if you were making cake pops.

Then form some of that into a large ball and add it to the side of the dress shaping it

up towards her hand.

Now mix the white chocolate ganache into your frosting mixing it through well.

I like those colours mixing together there.

And then cover the dress in frosting and you want to refrigerate that for at least 30 minutes.

Roll a rectangle of yellow fondant and wrap it around the cake smoothing it down and into

the folds of the dress.

Trim off the excess at the bottom and use a piece of fondant to smooth down the dress.

Squeeze it in at the waist and use a knife to trim it off and then flatten it down so

that it makes a smooth line in towards her waist rather than having a bumb there.

Now use your fingers pull and shape the fondant up towards her hand so that it looks like

she is holding the dress up.

Now the amount that she is pulling the fabric up by, we need to trim that off the bottom

of the skirt to reveal the underneath.

Use a knife to trim roughly around the base of the cake then come in closer and trim off

the last little bit.

Take some white fondant and add it underneath the yellow so that it covers the frosting

and gives you something to join to.

Then add some strips of white across, layering them up underneath like layers of the dress.

Next make a small indent at the same level on each crease.

Then take a thin rectangle of yellow and fold it back and foward like and acordian.

Pinch it at one end and gently stretch it then add it into one of the indents.

Let it flow down and around.

Pinch it there to make it skinny and add it into the next indent.

So making sure you're leaving a little bit of 'slack' so that it loops down between each

one.

Continue that the whole way around the dress then add a gold sugar pearl into the join

of each one.

For the body part of the dress, cut a piece of fondant with a point down at the waist

and another one going down at the top.

Wrap it around her body to make the top of the dress.

And then at the back you just want to cut it to size using a knife and cut it off at

the top to make it straight.

And then just smooth those joins by gently pressing on them with your thumb or your finger.

Roll a snake of yellow and then use your little finger to roll it and make it skinnier in

the centre.

Rub a little bit of water on the top of her dress and add the snake into place wrapping

it around Belle's shoulders.

Use your knife to make indents around this piece so it looks like it has folds or ruffles.

And then add a sugar pearl right into the middle.

To cover the cakeboard I'm using deep blue to go with the Beauty and The Beast colours

and to bring out the yellow of her dress.

You can of course use whatever colour you like, if you want a different colour go right

ahead.

And Belle is ready to dance.

If you happen to have the Beast as well you can add him to the cake too.

And for those of you who are asking, Yes I am filming this in my new kitchen.

It's still not quite ready though, let me know if you want me to do a kitchen tour when

it is ready.

SEO Tutorials | SEO Quake Website Audit for 2017 - Duration: 12:04.

Now in this next SEO tip, Im going to show you how to install a simple add-on to your

browser, or a plug-in that will allow you to analyse the SEO of your site and also the

SEO parameters on your competitors sites. Now, if you want to do this you have to install,

if you havent already got it, either chrome or Firefox.

So, if I bring up Firefox here. Within Firefox, I would go to this item here

and then go to work says Add-ons. And where it says Search for Add-ons,

you just type in the words SEO Quake. And press Return.

If I click on the item here, and go to where it says SEO Quake.

These are the various things I can look at. I can also click here to, to control how SEO

quake is going to work. So basically, its enabled here.

You show the SEO Bar here. This is quite useful, by default its going

to highlight the nofollow links. So, Ill just say OK to that and that goes

away. And if I have a look here, at what weve

got, weve got Page Info. So, lets go to an actual website. I will

go to one of my websites. So, Ill go

to www.4seotraining.com.au. So, I bring up one of my websites.

And as you can see youve got this bar across the top. This SEO quake bar.

And theres various things I can look at directly from here.

So, for instance, you can look at the number of links within Google and slow things here

that you can look at, BING links, and what have you.

There is the age of the URL. And as you go along here, you can see things

like the number of Facebook likes and the number of likes in Google plus.

You can click here and view the source, and if I click on that, the source will open up

in a separate window, looking at the background code there.

If we move along here, there are various other things, which weve got, so youve got

this little icon here, so that you can look at a Summary Report. Diagnose

is particularly useful, especially when looking at your competitors.

So, if I click on this. This gives a very simple, quick report. Its

not an in-depth report, but if you just doing a quick look at some of your competitors,

it is quite a simple way of doing this so, you can look at the URL itself, the a conical

tag has been set up. You can look at what sort of title youve

got. And what Description theyve got. The keyword meta statements, if theyve

got any. You can look at the headings here as you can

see youve got, in this case and heading 1, heading 2s, heading 3s. Just heading ones

twos and threes in this case. All the ALT tags have been applied to the

various images on the page. The text ratio. Its basically saying it

would be nice if there was a bit more text, but it generally always says that because

these days the more text the better. Youre not using frames. youve got an

I-frame, but not using old fashion frames, so thats good.

No flash is detected so thats OK. Then weve got various other things here,

that are really beyond the scope of this short video. Youve got micro formats, schema,

the open graph and twitter cards. If you want more information on these just click on the

links here, you can get more information about what those are.

In a similar way, if youre looking at mobile compliance here, if youre not quite sure

AMP and viewports are, again you can get more information on this, or just google it.

Essentially, you want ticks here, especially on the viewport section, because that

just makes sure your website works on a mobile phone.

And as we go down here, we can look at the site compliance section.

Ive got a robots.txt file. Ive got an XML site map.

There is a bit in the language section which is warning me that I havent properly defined

my language, but its still working okay. The doctype has been defined.

The encoding has been defined. Its saying I dont have Google analytics

installed. Actually I do. Its just that Ive set up the analytics to work with my

website in slightly non-standard way, which is why this analytic tool doesnt seem to

realise Ive got it installed. Then finally at the bottom here Ive got

a favicon, which is short for a favourites icon.

So, if youre not quite sure what some of these things mean, just google them or check

out my premium course, and you can get more information on them.

Now if you go over here to the summary report. The summary report, will give you a quick

summary of a particular website page, and the great thing about this is, you can use

it to look at other peoples websites. Your competitors websites.

If we go down here. For instance, were looking at the keyword density, and bearing in mind

that this particular website, which is one of mine, is all about SEO training. SEO has

the highest keyword density the density of 2.71%.

Then website and then training. So, that is right on message there.

And then it talks about search, Perth and WordPress and so on.

But as I say for me, this particular website, the key phrase will be something like SEO

Training. So, thats about right. These are single word phrases. If we go down here,

you can have two word phrases, like SEO Training which have is a density of 1.62%

and nine repeats. And as we go down here these are the other

words are very popular on this particular page.

And then down here, weve got three word phrases. The obvious one would be Search

Engine Optimisation. Then finally, weve got a couple of 4 word

phrases. So Training Courses Perth SEO something

like that or SEO Perth Web Marketing. And as I say its all spot-on, because this

particular website, as I say is one of mine, is all about SEO Training, so thats

pretty good. But as I say, rather than just looking at

my website, which can be useful, just as a quick check that the SEO is okay, but the

real use of this little program is when looking at other peoples websites.

A really nice feature about this program is, if you go to the SEO Quake Configuration options

which is here, you can say highlight nofollow links.

Youve got a nofollow link here, it will show it with a line through it. So, if I for

instance bring up Google. You can see theres a line through here because this is what is

called a nofollow link. Again, if youre not sure what a nofollow

link is, there are two types of links, follow and nofollow. A nofollow link, basically doesnt

pass page rank, or link juice, if that makes no sense, just check out my premium SEO training

courses, or just google it, and you will get more information there, but its quite useful

sometimes to just be able to see visually like this, whether a link is follow or nofollow.

Obviously, I could go look at the code in the background and do that way but this is

nice and visual. If youve got Google Chrome, the installation

method is very similar, you just simply click up here.

You go to where it says Settings. Go to where it says Extensions over

here. And if you want to add a new extension click

on Get more extensions. You click on that.

In here you just search using the phrase SEO Quake.

And there we are, thats SEO quake. And you click on here where it says Add

to Chrome. As you can see its got very nice reviews and lots of them.

So are just click here where it says Add Extension.

And there you are, as you can see. So, if I close this down for second and we

will restart it. And again, if I go to my www.4seotraining.com.au

website. So again, just like before even though Im

using a different browser, youve now got this SEO quake toolbar up here.

And again, if you click here, you can determine what you looking at, with more settings here.

So, you can customise the way it is displayed and what is displayed. Its one of those

things, the more you look, the more you see, but the reason I like is because it just gives

a little snapshot. Also, one other thing I didnt actually

show you. This works obviously in both browsers. If I just bring up Google and do a search,

for instance for SEO training Perth. As you can see within the results here, youve

got the equivalent of the little bar, in every single listing. Thats kind of cool.

So, its a very easy way of seeing how many back-links people have, whats a ranking

theyve got, what their Alexa rank is, check out their source, and as I say is just a nice

way of comparing things. So, as you can see in this particular case,

thats when this website was set up. In 2010.

This one here were set up in 2009. And so on and so forth.

Lets find another one. That one here set up in 2001.

And if I bring up a totally different website. Lets go for Computer Training Materials.

So, I do a search here for computer training materials, and as you can see, the first

one here was set up in October 31, 1996. Which is like up there with the dinosaurs. Incidentally

this is one of my websites. So, as you can see Ive been on the Internet for a very

long time. And if you look at the matrices here. Ive

got an awful lot of links. And this site has enormous authority as its called.

So, there you have it. Thats SEO quake. Is not the most powerful tool in the world

but it is pretty good, and as I said if you go and investigate it, youll find theres

a lot more there than Ive quickly covered within this very short tips and tricks introduction.

The great thing about this is that its a very quick, very fast way of exploring your

competitors. Seeing how well theyre doing, and seeing whats good about their websites

as opposed to your website. So, go and install it, is totally free, give

it a try. If you dont like it, you can just quickly uninstall it.

Incidentally, the way you uninstall things, is if you go here, go to Settings, go

to Extensions, and if you decided you didnt want any more, you just disable it

and then going click on the Remove icon here, and its gone.

SEO Tutorials for Beginners | Who links to my website 2017 - Duration: 6:19.

Now the next SEO tip I want to show you, is how to see how many people link to your website,

and where those links are coming from. Now this is important because if you read

the Google Webmaster Guidelines it will specify that you want to have links to your

website, but you want to have links that are relevant to your website and you want links

from good sites, not links from bad sites. So, the first thing to do is to see whos

actually linking to you. Now if you havent already signed up for

it. Do a search for something called the Google Search Console which used to be called

the Google Webmaster Tools youll find this thing here called the Google Search

Console, and if I bring this up. If you dont already have a Google account set one up,

so you can create an account, and then you enter your details.

Once you sign in you will see something like this.

Now again, if youre serious about your SEO, its vital that you sign up for this

free tool from Google, its called the Google Search Console. As I say, it used to be called

the Google Webmaster Tools but rather confusingly, they changed the name a while back.

Now in order to see who links to you, you go to where it says Search Traffic.

And then go to where it says Links to your site. And as you can see in this case Ive

got 2120 links to my website and these are the people who link most. And if I click here

for more, you can see the list goes on and on. So basically, this shows me exactly whos

linking to me and also how many links they have from each site.

So, for instance, this site here, Ive no idea who they are, but theyve got 54 links

to me. And if you come down here, this site here for instance, has 18 links. And as you

can see they are listed in order of the number of links from each site. There is one here

called the IT support directory and apparently, theyve got 167 links to me

and there are links from 54 pages on their website. So, for some reason Ive got an

awful lot links from these people. Now the reason that this is important, is

that back in the day all that mattered was having links, it didnt matter where they

came from, you just wanted as many links as possible. And over the years Google has refined

the way it does things. It uses links more intelligently now. So, what really matters

these days are links that are relevant to you from other websites, so if someone, in

my case linked from a university training department, to this site, which sells computer

training materials, then that would be a very good relevant link and it would be a good

link because its from a good source. Now what you dont want are links from bad

sources. For instance, you dont want links from sites that are purely just covered in

advertising, because those sort of links would be viewed as spammy, and while you might get

away with a couple of bad links, if you have lots and lots of bad links, then Google might

take the view, that you had may be paid for links from bad sites, or in some ways your

site was associated with other bad sites. Now unfortunately you can only use the Google

Search Console to examine your own website. But it is a very important starting place

because, what you need to do periodically, is go through this list and try and identify

dodgy looking sites. So, for instance if you had a site that said feelinksareus.com this

is properly a dodgy site, if it exists maybe its is not dodgy, but who knows. The point

is you can just go down here and quite often the name gives away the fact that it is a

spammy site. If you got another site that says cheapviagara.com or something like that,

again you may not want to be associated with that because may be a legitimate site, I dont

know I just made it up, but what you dont want are links from really totally unrelated

sites, or sites with a very poor reputation, because they can negatively affect your SEO.

As I say, you might get away with a few bad links but if youve got lots and lots of

bad links, then Google takes the view that is not good and you need to try and remove

these links. Incidentally, if you do identify a bad link,

a link from a site this dodgy in some way, or low calibre you can try contacting the

Webmasters of those particular websites, and say I dont want the link can you remove

it. The chances are if its a dodgy site they will ignore you. So, the question then

is how do I get rid of these bad links? The answer is you cant.

However, the good news is you can disavow those links so, I dont want to wander off

topic because this is really just telling you how to see who isnt linking to you,

but the good news is if you want to disavow a link just search Google for the phrase something

like Google Disavow Tool. And you will find that will are taken to a place where

essentially you can say to Google, look I didnt ask of these links can you disavow

them. Can you ignore them. This doesnt actually remove the link to you, but its

basically your way of telling Google. Hey, these people link to me, I didnt want the

link, can you ignore it and Google will ignore the link at which point even though the link

is still in place, it wont negatively affect your own website. So, its very important

that you do that every so often.

SEO Tutorial for Beginners | Bold text and SEO 2017 - Duration: 2:02.

Right, this is another short, but very effective SEO tip.

Most webpages consist of lots of text so its blah, blah, blah.

And what youve got to do is to try and get Google to focus on the important bits

of text.

So, as you can see, as a human, Im looking at this page here and its blah, blah, blah.

And what stands out?

This bit here.

Why?

Because it has been made bold.

So, if you think about it, why do you make something bold on your pages?

Its basically to draw attention to that piece of text and distinguish this from all

the other text in the background, the blah, blah, blahs.

So, you can use this technique on a webpage.

On a webpage if youve got lots and lots of text, but you really want to draw Googles

attention to a particular piece of text, maybe containing your keywords, so in my case if

Ive got a website about SEO training, I might make the words SEO training bold.

As I say, this would draw the attention of the human readers, but it would also get the

attention of Google, and it is a very simple, very easy to use technique.

The thing is, what you dont want to do, is to pepper this all over the page, so for

instance you wouldnt want to make that make that bold, and that bold.

So just use this trick once, maybe twice on the page, thats it.

Like all SEO tips, dont overdo them, dont abuse them.

DMITRIY PUCHNIN Hair Tutorial Russia | Beauty Fix - Duration: 3:01.

Hello everyone!

I am Dmitriy Puchnin, hairstylist.

Nowadays it is important to be able to

perform not only fashionable,

but also quick hair styling techniques.

Today I will share some of these

techniques with you.

My model, Darya, will help me to do this.

To create hair texture and density we

use the styling mousse from Style Link line.

To make the hair smoother,

we use a brush made of natural bristles,

which will comb your hair as thoroughly as possible.

For creating the hair direction,

I use 25mm hair curler, it will give the

ideal curl to our future hair styling.

Before wrapping the hair,

I apply Extra Fizzing Spray,

which will give me a chance to fix the hair without

gluing it and our hairdo will last long.

To create beachy waves I use salt spray,

which I put on all the hair and then

I dry it slightly tensing it down

for our hair did not look so perfect.

Now, we got a light, delicate styling,

with which you can go either

shopping or to a party.

If your plans suddenly change and you decide

to go to a gym you can easily transform our styling

into the upsweep by putting the top hair back from

the face, so it will not bother you during the exercises.

For maximum fixing the hair knot,

use the trick – bend one end of a stud

and put the hair there; the resulting hook

will carefully restrain the hair during sports.

Due to the previously created hair texture,

we can easily transform our hairdo into

a high hair styling with the hair pulled back.

To do this, I perform the separation.

Using a tailed comb, I separate the first area--

the forelocks area, and fix it.

Then I smoothly comb side areas

and fix them with a rubber band.

I gather the remaining hair in a ponytail

and bouffant them making a round shape--

thus we uncover the neck at maximum

and show the beauty of our dress.

Finally, I twist the forelocks zone hair

into a bundle and place it in a previously

created shape at the back of the head.

So, today I introduced you to the various

techniques of quick hair styling that will

enable you to look different throughout the day.

SEO Tutorials for Beginners | The URL and SEO 2017 - Duration: 2:11.

The next SEO tip I want to show you is basically using your keyword phrase within the URL.

So, as you can see in this case, Ive typed SEO training Perth into Google and notice

the one that comes up. Its my website and the URL is www.4seotraining.com.au.

So, this website is all about SEO training, and the URL has the exact phrase SEO Training

within it. The reason instantly that I put the 4 in front

of it, was because when I registered this domain the phrase www.seotraining.com.au had

already been taken. So, I used the next best thing. I put a 4 in front of it. So, its

kind of like a play on words, you know for SEO training.

So, its a very simple technique this one, but if you dont already have a website

and your thinking of setting up a website, then actually incorporate your keyword phrase

within the URL. More than likely, if its a competitive

phrase like, SEO training, its already gone but what you can do is consider this

little trick. You can put a 4 in front of it, in this case for 4seotraining, we could

use 2, like 2learnseotraining. Now this used to have a very large effect

on SEO, and the value of this has gone down, but it is still one of the 200 or so factors

that Google takes into account, so if youve got the chance to actually create a new URL

for a new website, then certainly think about incorporating the keyword phrase into the

actual URL.

SEO Tutorials for Beginners | SEO and Over-optimization 2017 - Duration: 8:02.

In this SEO tip, I just want to draw your attention to the fact that you can get penalised

for over optimising your website. Where the line is, is hard to say, but if you do no

SEO optimisation on your website, then the website will not be found very well, but certainly

if you overdo it, then Google will take the view that youre trying to spam the search

engine results and you will get penalised. Possibly you could actually get deleted from

Google altogether. Now as always, the starting point, if youve

not done it before is to go to the Google Webmaster Guidelines. Go and search for

that and bring up the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

And if you go down here where it says they Principles, the first basic principle

says make pages primarily for users, not for search engines. Which is Google-speak

for dont over optimise. It says avoid tricks intended to improve

search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether youd feel comfortable

explaining what you have done to your website, to a website competitor or to a Google employee.

Another useful test is does this help my users. Or would I do this if search engines

didnt exist. So, Google is not saying you cant do SEO.

Google is saying dont do it to extreme. Dont optimise everything 100%. Dont

stuff the pages with your keyword phrases, and dont use all the other tricks that

are available within SEO to the extreme. Be reasonable basically.

Google takes the view, that if you think about what makes your website unique, valuable or

engaging, basically, make the website stand out, so that it gets found on its own merits.

There is some truth in that. As I say, its a mixture, what you really want is good content

and sensible SEO. With SEO, dont do too much and also dont

do it too quickly. So, if youve got a website appearing on page 10, and then you get an

SEO person in, or you take my training courses, or however you do it, then everything is perfect

the next time Google checks your website, its going to be very suspicious with all

the sudden SEO improvements. So, the guidelines, as far as Im concerned,

basically mean that what you should do, is take it slowly, you know, do a bit here one

week, a bit there next week, but dont do it all at once, and slowly, slowly, if you

do it sensibly, you should see your rankings improving.

Now there are various tools you can use to see whether your site might be a little bit

over optimised. One that I like, its a very simple tool. If youve got something

like the Chrome browser, you can install an add-on called SEO Quake. This is covered

in another of my videos. And once that has been installed, you can bring up a webpage

like this one here. Then click up here on this little icon for

SEO Quake. And what that does, is a let you see information about your website,

so for instance, if you go to where it says Page Info. That will give you a certain

amount of information, so it tells you what the title is, what your description

is and so on and so forth. And as you come down here, there are other bits and pieces.

Down here, it will talk about your keyword density. So, in this case, it is saying that

the word SEO is repeated 30 times on this page, with a density of 2.71.

So, its not the actual number of repeats of your keyword phrases that matters, its

the density. So obviously, if you just had your keyword phrase and nothing else, the

density would be 100%. If on the other hand, you have lots of interesting text, quality

text and content, then obviously, you can repeat the phrase more often, because there

is more text to embed it in. So, in this case, as I say SEO has a density

of 2.71, website 2.44, training 1.17. Then things like Perth, (I live in Perth, in Western

Australia) that has a density of 1.17. And, if you go down here you can look at two

word phrases. SEO training which is what this particular site is all about. And

its got nine repeats for that particular phrase and its got a density of 1.62.

Now, the obvious question is, well what should this density be? And there is no real answer

to that, all I can say is you should look at what you have got on your pages and read

it out loud and think does this sound like normal text. If it sounds like, in this case,

its been written whose first language is not English, then the chances are youve

stuffed it with too many keywords and you have over optimised.

So, as I say, you should regularly read your content, just make sure it reads well, if

it sounds like good English, obviously if its in a different language, whatever language

you are in, but just make sure the phrasing sounds natural and you dont overdo it.

You wouldnt want for instance, in my case a paragraph say Hi, we do SEO training

and my SEO training courses are run in Perth and on our SEO training courses youll find

lots and lots of information about how to do SEO blar, blar blar. In that case I would

just be stuffing the words SEO training over and over again and that would be very

spammy. Google is getting quite smart, its reading age is going up every year, so it

will basically look at the content youve got and the keywords within the context of

that text, and as I say there is no absolute guide rules here. I cant say keep these

below 3% or 3.25%. It really depends on your website, how much text youve got on there,

and also remember Google likes text. Thats one of the things that if you study the Google

Webmaster Guidelines carefully, you will come away with, that Google likes text, it likes

lots of text, because Google can understand text.

If you go down here, youve got three word phrases and for word phrases. So, as you can

see training courses Perth SEO has the highest density for a four-word phrase and

then SEO training courses Perth has the same in fact, and weve got various

other things here. So, as I say, do use these kind of tools,

there are lots of different tools, but I just happen to like this SEO Quake one, and as

I say Ive got a separate video on how to install SEO quake, its free and its

great for just monitoring your site and indeed checking out your competitors.

So, do remember the basic rule there, dont do SEO too fast and too soon. Take it slowly,

do a bit here, a bit there and spread it over weeks, possibly months. Certainly, dont

take one of my courses, absorb all the knowledge and then do the whole work over a weekend,

because you will find the all a careful work that youve done, will actually result in

you going down in the search engines, not up.

So once again, take it slowly.

SEO Tutorial - Alt tags and picture images - New for 2017 - Duration: 3:56.

Now the next SEO tips I want to talk about what are called ALT tags.

Now before we actually look at these, lets see why theyre important.

If you go to Google and do a search for the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

This will come up and if you click here, this will show you the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

Now, if you go and investigate Google Webmaster Guidelines, which is an absolute essential

if youre serious about SEO, if you come down here is a section that says Help Google

understand your pages.

And if you go and expand this section here, you will find there are bits in here about

the ALT text, so for instance it says Ensure that your Title elements and ALT attributes

are descriptive specific and accurate.

So, thats why its important to get your ALT tags is right, because basically Google

tells you to do that, within the Google Webmaster Guidelines, and as always if Google says to

do something, you dont ask questions, you just do it.

So, what are ALT tags?

Well, they were originally devised for people with visual impairments, and the idea was

that if you had some sort of visual impairment, you could have software that would read the

screen for you, and when it came to a picture, it would look to see if there was any information

behind the picture, in what was called an ALT tag, short for Alternative Tag.

And it would then read the information.

So, the idea was it would help people with visual impairments.

Now Google has supported this and also taken it a stage further, so what happens is, Google

will now read your ALT tags to try and get information about what your particular webpage

is about.

So, its very important that you use lots of pictures within your website and each picture

should have an ALT tag embedded behind it.

So, lets see how you would actually do this in something like WordPress.

In WordPress, if you want to insert a picture, you just go here, Add Media, find the

picture you want, this one here for instance, click on where it says Insert into page,

and youve now got a picture there.

If you wanted to put an ALT tag behind this picture, you are just simply click on the

picture, click here where it says Edit, then you can have your alternative text.

Like for instance SEO training in Perth.

As I run SEO training courses within Perth.

And if I just click on Update.

You dont see it here and if I click on Update here and then preview it.

So, if we preview that page.

You dont see it as such, but Google reads the information behind the page.

Again, if youre using WordPress, youve got these 2 tabs here, one called Visual

and one called Text.

So, if I click where it says Text, you can see this is the code behind the page,

and its inserted this ALT tag here, and the ALT tag says SEO training in Perth.

So, that is exactly what Google will read.

Again, if you really study the Google Webmaster Guidelines from end-to-end and really get

to know them off by heart, very soon you will come to realise that what Google likes above

all else is text.

So, this basically is a way of giving Google some text to supplement the information about

the picture.

Because Google doesnt really understand what pictures are about, at least not yet.

SEO Tutorial - How to check for broken links | 2017 SEO Tips - Duration: 5:03.

The

next SEO tip I am going to show you is how to check for broken links.

Now first off, why are broken links important?

Basically, because Google says it doesnt like them.

Now what you need to do, is to do a search within Google, using the phrase Google

Webmaster Guidelines.

Like so.

And that will take you to this page here, and if you click on that this page, it is

really the starting page for learning about SEO, because this is not my opinion, or somebody

elses opinion, this is from Google.

Now if we look here there are three sets of things.

There is Help Google find your pages.

Theres Help Google understand your pages.

And theres Help visitors use your pages.

And if I go and click on the down arrow here.

This second bullet point here, it says ensure that all links go to live pages.

Thats basically Google-speak for, dont have any broken links.

So, these are the Webmaster Guidelines, these are from Google, so basically anything listed

here, in these three sections here, and down below, you must make sure, if Google says

dont do them, that you dont do them and if Google says you do to them,

then you do to them, because if you want to do well within Google, you must play by their

rules.

So clearly, as you can see here, you must make sure that you dont have any broken

links.

So how do you do that?

Well, there are a number of ways.

Probably the easiest way is to download a free link checker.

Now when youre downloading free software, you have to be very careful where youre

downloading it from.

If you know the source website, you can go directly there, for instance if you wanted

something from Adobe, youd go to the adobe.com website.

In this case, it might not be clear where the official site is.

So, a little trick I do, is search using the phrase, Free Downloads.

And generally, the first item listed will be this one, download.CNET.com.

You could have gone straight there, but if you cant remember that, just search for

Free Downloads within Google and generally this is the one that is listed first.

So, lets click on this.

And the reason I recommend you go here for free software downloads, is that they do a

certain amount of checking, so its like a repository of free downloads, samples or

demo versions or whatever.

Or in some case, like this one, fully working versions.

So, what I have to do, is search using the name of the program, which in this case is

XENU, a bit of a strange name, and if I go and search for that, youve got the usual

adverts at the top, and here it is, and as you can see, its free.

So, if I click on this.

I wont actually do this because Ive already downloaded it.

I could click where it says Download Now, follow the instructions, and this would download

a small program actually to your hard disk.

You then run the install program.

So I can close this down now.

And when you run the program, it will look something like this.

So, the way you check your website, is to go File, Check URL.

Then just simply type the website in, so my case its www.cheltenhamgroup.com.au.

I have a number of websites, but this is one of them.

So, I just simply say OK.

This is actually a tiny little website, so this is going to be very fast.

If youve got larger website this could take a while.

Do you want to produce a report?.

Yes please.

Ill just cancel that.

And here we are.

Its basically saying Ah, its found a broken link, so it tells you where the broken

link is, so in this case its on my homepage and thats the broken link.

So, all I have to do in this case, is to go to WordPress, and search for the broken link

there, and I will go and fix that.

So, thats how you check for broken links.

So, this program obviously doesnt fix your broken links, but just simply tells you how

many broken links youve got, and where they are.

-------------------------------------------

SEO Tutorial - Follow and nofollow links - SEO tips for 2017 - Duration: 9:02.

Now the next SEO tip I would like to talk about, Ill basically be explaining follow

and nofollow links. Now by default, if you for instance, insert

a link into your website, it will be whats called a follow link. So, you know when

you just insert a link, that says you know, click here to see maybe another page or

maybe click here to see another website, by default they will be follow links.

Now what the follow means, is that obviously, as with any link that you create, users you

know people, can click on that link, and basically follow that link, no problem. However, if

you specify the link as a nofollow link, people can still follow that link, but the

search engines will not follow the link. In actual fact, they may in some circumstances

follow the link, but more specifically they wont transfer any link juice or page

rank value from one link, to another. Now when you have a website, one of the first

things you start learning about, if youre serious about your SEO, is that you want lots

and lots of good links to your website, from other websites and also these links should

be relevant to your website, and they should be from high-quality websites.

Now in many cases its quite easy to get links from other places to your website, but

what you may not realise is, that these links may be nofollow links, so for instance,

lets say youve got a website and you create say a YouTube channel, and you then

go and put links from your YouTube channel to your website, then these will be nofollow

links. So, the links will still work for people, for humans but any goodness, any link value

associated with YouTube as such, will not be passed directly to your website, so thats

really what nofollow means, it means dont transfer goodness from the original website

to your website, or from your website to somewhere else, or more specifically things like page

rank will not be passed by nofollow links. No as far as your website is concerned theres

really two types of nofollow attributes. This is actually a page from Google, and if

we come down here a bit, you can see here, this is a meta tag that you can put into your

page header, and what this basically says to the robots is, dont follow, and this

works at a page level, so lets say you had a page on your website, and for one reason

or another, you are quite happy for people to go to that page, click on the links and

go someplace else to view information, but you didnt want Google to follow the links

to somewhere else, maybe they might be slightly dodgy links in some way as far as Google is

concerned, or they may be links to unrelated pages, which again, might confuse Google,

so if you do have a page thats full of links, and you dont want Google to essentially

follow those links, as I say, you put this line here, into the head area of that particular

page, and as I say this works at a page level. Now, as you can see in the headline here,

you can use Rel=nofollow for specific links. So, lets say you had half dozen links on

your page, and you wanted for sake of argument, three of them to be follow and three of them

to be nofollow, then by default they will all be follow links, so what you could do,

is insert this little piece of code, it is an extra attribute to the link coding.

You might think wow that seems far too complicated, well for those of you lucky enough to use

WordPress, as youve probably noticed in WordPress, that if you want to do something,

the answer to how to do something is always the same, install a plugin. Thats why I

love WordPress. So, lets say youre not happy with manually going in and editing the

code, then what you can do in WordPress is install a nofollow link plugin.

Lets do this. Now here I am in WordPress. What Im going

do, is type in something like, See my computer training materials website, something like

that. And I simply just select that. Go up here and enter the address of the website,

and just confirm that. There we are, weve got a link and Im going to update this.

And I will view the page. And if I go and click on that link. As you can see it works

fine. I can use the Back button to go back where I was.

Now by default that is a follow link. Quite clearly as a human I can follow that

link, but more specifically, Google can follow that link. So, what I want to do is maybe

edit this in some way, so that its a nofollow link. How do I do that? Well it couldnt

really be easier. Because Im using WordPress, what I want to do is install a plugin. So,

if I go to where it says Plugins, Add New. All I have to do is to go over here

to search for a plugin, I think its called Ultimate Nofollow.

And there we are, weve got Ultimate Nofollow. Its not actually been tested

with the latest version in this case, but I happen to know it works just fine, so go

ahead and install this. Incidentally if youre going to install this, backup your system

prior to installing it, just in case. So, there you are. Ive installed it I will

now activate it. Right, now that Ive installed the nofollow

plugin, I can go back to my pages, and I could bring up that link. And if I click within

that link, and then go to where it says EDIT, and then click LINK OPTIONS. Can you see here?

If youre used to using WordPress, you may be familiar with this item here, that says

open the link in a new tab, but what that plugin did, was to allow me to click

here to add a rel=nofollow to that link. And if I click on ADD LINK, and just confirm

all that. That is now a nofollow link. Lets go and look at the code. There are

two tabs here VISUAL and TEXT. If I go to where it says TEXT. Can you see

here there is an extra little bit of code, thats been inserted, thats all that

plugin did. If you are more confident with using HTML you could have gone directly and

edited that. But Ive been using HTML for years, and I still use the plugin, it just

makes life easier. Again, thats why I love WordPress. Everything is easy in WordPress.

So, as you can see, that as a standard link there, there is whats called the anchor

text, and theres the rel=nofollow. So, lets update this, lets view the

page. So even though I can click on this. And it

works just like it did before. So, theres no problem with humans. It just means that

Google will not follow the link. Now Google have admitted that, in some cases,

they will follow the link. But the important thing to realise from an SEO point of view,

is that in this case, this website here, has a certain amount of trust, value and authority,

and because this link is a nofollow link, it means that the trust and authority that

is bound up in this website, will not be transferred to the other website, when you click on this.

So, if I click on that, it means this website, people can see it, but none of the goodness

associated with the original website will be transferred to that second website.

And that really is what follow and nofollow is all about.

Remember by default all links are follow. If you want to you can make outgoing links

nofollow, and there are good reasons for doing this, because lots of good relevant incoming

links to your website means that your website builds up authority. Its gaining what is

called link juice. And the more links you have flowing away from your website, means

that that link juice is going to flow to other websites, away from your site. So, that is

really the way you want to think about it. Dont necessarily make all outgoing links

nofollow. But certainly, if say you are linking to a low value page, then I would certainly

put a nofollow on that.

-------------------------------------------

SEO Tutorial | GZIP and website loading speed - Duration: 4:46.

In this next SEO tip, I am going to show you how to increase the loading speed of your

website.

Now this is important because, as always, if you go to the Google Webmaster Guidelines,

if youve not seen these before, simply go to Google and search using the phrase Google

Webmaster Guidelines.

And it will bring this page up here.

And youve got three sets of guidelines here, plus some quality guidelines.

If you go to this one here which says Help visitors use your pagesand if you come

down here a little bit, it says Optimise your page loading times.

Fast sites make happy users.

And there is also a tool for measuring the actual speed of your website, where you can

get an indication, a percentage if you like, from Googles point of view, about how well

you are doing.

Now there is this thing called GZIP.

It doesnt matter technically what is or how it works, the point is it will speed up

your website.

Now if you are using WordPress, all you need to do is to install a plugin, so in this case,

Ive got plugin called, is a bit of a mouthful, GZIP Ninja Speed Compression.

So, you just go and install that, once youve done that you will get a little option down

here, that says GZIP Ninja Speed.

And if you click on that.

There is only one option here which is basically to enable it, thats it, theres no configuration

such.

Now depending on the type of Web server you are using, this will either work, or it wont.

If it doesnt work, it shouldnt do any harm, but if it does work, it should significantly

speed up the loading of your website.

So, if you are using WordPress, I would strongly suggest you think about installing and enabling

GZIP.

Now if I go back to the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

As I say, if you look at this section that talks about the speed, there is actually a

Google tool, so you can measure the loading speed of your website.

Its called Page Speed Insights.

And if I go and click on that.

Basically, in this section here, you simply enter the address for your website, so Ill

enter the address of my www.4seotraining.com.au website.

And you click on where it says Analyse, over here.

Now the great thing about this tool, is its from Google, so its from Googles perspective.

And also, notice there are two tabs here Mobile and Desktop.

So, on the mobile side of things, I am getting 73 out of 100, which is not bad, it could

be better.

So, as you can see, I could fix something here, but its still loads pretty fast,

and more to the point, certainly in Perth where I live, if I type in something like

SEO training Perth, I come up first.

Its one of those things where if its not broken dont fix it.

If I click on the Desktop tab here, thats even higher so I get an 83% on the

desktop, and 73% on mobiles.

And again, you can look at these things here, it will show you how to optimise your website

even further, if you want to for instance, to reduce the server response time, you can

click here and get tips on how to do that.

So, in some cases, these might be a little bit technical and you might have to get your

web hosting company to implement them.

But ideally you want this number to be as high as possible.

As I say, for my SEO Training website which is www.4seotraining.com.au I am getting 83

for desktop, and 73 for mobile which is not bad.

The other thing incidentally is you get a little representation over here of what that

website will look like on a mobile.

If I click on Desktop again, you get a representation or what it is going to look like on a standard

laptop or desktop.

Now if I come down here a bit.

Just to illustrate the point, where it talks about enable compression, it does actually

say compressing resources with GZIP.

So, Google does actually recommend that you use GZIP.

If you are not using WordPress, you might have to have some other way of implementing

it, which case, just ask your hosting company, but again thats one of the beautiful things

about WordPress.

WordPress just makes everything so easy, so if you want GZIP within WordPress, you just

simply enable the plugin, or install the plugin and then enable it, and thats it, forget

about it, its done.

SEO Tutorial | Compressing picture files for faster loading websites - Duration: 2:43.

In this next SEO tip, I want to show you how you can compress your picture files within

WordPress. What you can do is to install a plugin within

WordPress called WP SMUSH, and if I go and bring up the details here. It gives

you some information there. Basically, what this does, once youve installed it, you

can basically compress all the existing files and then as you load new graphics, you can

compress those as well. And if you check out the Google Webmaster Guidelines, go and Google

them, if you have not seen them before. Thats the Google Webmaster Guidelines. In the guidelines,

it will tell you that one of the things that Google likes these days is fast loading websites.

So, an easy way of increasing the loading speed of your website, is simply to compress

all of the picture files. So literally, all you have to do, (within WordPress obviously),

this only works in WordPress, is install a plugin called WP SMUSH. And then there

are various settings that you can change if you want to. There is also a premium version

which you may want to consider. And in this particular case, it is saying

that I have seven images that need smushing, and if I do a bulk Smush now, I just

click on this. So, it is now smushing those files, which basically means its just compressing

them. As I say this is a free plugin. You will notice

down here that if you want to you can try the pro version for free. That would be in

this case here, be about twice as effective. But just using the free version, its pretty

good. As you can see here so far, its smushed

369 different files. And there you are. Its been smushed. The

saving are not enormous, but everything helps and as you will begin to appreciate with SEO,

its not the big things, its a lot of little things that matter. So, as I say, if

you are using WordPress, check it out, its called WP Smush. Its totally free and then

you might want to try this free pro version, get the trial and to give it a try.

SEO Tutorial | What is on-site SEO and Off-site SEO? | New SEO tips for 2017 - Duration: 8:05.

Now I would like to quickly explain the difference between what is called on-site and off-site

SEO factors. This is also known as on-page and off-page.

Now firstly on-site SEO. That basically relates to anything you do within your actual website

and here are some examples. Its not an exclusive list but these are some of the important

ones. Theres things like your domain name. Ideally

you should have your keyword phrase within your domain name. So, my training website

for SEO is called www.4seotraining.com.au, so it has a domain name with the keywords

embedded within it. Now probably the most important on-site SEO

factor of all, is the title, the HTML title. This can make the difference between good

SEO and basically not being found. So even if you get this right but totally mess up

everything else, youve still got a shot at being on the first page, thats how important

the title is. So, there is a video on these various bits

and pieces. As I say, the most important one of all is the HTML title.

Probably next in importance will be things like Alt tags, Headings and Anchor Text. Those

are probably the three most important ones after the Title.

So, ALT tags, again theres a video on that. An alt tag is basically a tag, a hidden bit

of information behind the pictures that you upload to your website, so Google can understand

the text within your page, as it doesnt really understand what the pictures are about,

so the idea of the Alt text is, it basically tells Google, it gives Google some information

about the pictures. Headings. You can have headings 1,2,3,4,5,

and 6 if you want to. But from an SEO point of view, the important headings are the H1

and the H2, which is the primary heading and the secondary heading. So again, you want

to try and get your keywords within the headings on the page. Again, there is a video on that.

Next, we come to Anchor Text. Anchor Text is purely the text within a clickable text

link. Quality content. This is very important. Theres

no point doing in doing SEO if you dont have a good website to start off with, so

spend a little time producing good quality content, that people would actually want to

read. The loading speed of each page is important,

especially on mobiles, so that is something you need to pay attention to.

The next on-site factor would be things like, have you got an XML site map and an HTML site

map? Again, if youve got no idea what those are, check out my other videos. They are just

ways of helping Google to find its way around your site.

The way you set up your internal linking structure, within your website. Again, thats an important

SEO factor. And again, as always, there is a right way and a wrong way of doing this.

Broken links. Google is totally unimpressed if it finds broken links on your website,

you might get away with one or two, but certainly you want to check your website on a regular

basis, just to make sure you havent got any broken links between your pages, or indeed

a broken link from your website to somebody elses website.

The hosting location, that can affect your SEO. If youre interested in local business

within a particular country, or particular part of the country maybe, then try and get

local hosting, so for instance Im in a city called Perth in Western Australia, and

all my hosting is done within Australia. Duplicate content, thats another issue

you need to think about. Some of these factors are plus factors, and some are negative factors.

Duplicate content is certainly a negative factor that you need to be careful of. So,

what you do not want to do ever, is basically copy and paste information from one page to

another page within your website. If you want to create similar information, create it from

scratch, do not copy and paste it. Then finally of course, these days you need

your website to be mobile friendly. So, this is not a complete list, but gives

you some idea of the whats called, on-site SEO factors and you need to get all of these

right. So, what is off-site SEO? Primarily its

links, ideally links from other websites. But also, links from your own social media.

So, if you got things like a YouTube channel, Facebook Google plus, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest

etc., you want these all set up with links back to your site. And ideally you want links

from other peoples blogs, other peoples Facebook pages and all the rest of it, so

the more links you get the better. But there is a proviso here. Really these

days what you want are links from sites that are relevant to what you do. So, for instance

Im primarily interested in SEO training, so having a link from say a widget manufacturer

doesnt really help me. I would benefit from fewer high-quality, relevant links rather

than lots and lots of low quality links. Incidentally once people become aware of the

fact that links are important from an SEO point of view, they may be tempted to go and

buy links. You must never ever do that because Google is extremely good at finding out what

are called link farms and if you sign up to a company that basically provides you

with a whole bunch of links, for a small amount of money, then that is a very good way of

getting yourself banned from Google these days, because it specifically breaks the Google

guidelines. If you havent already seen it, try searching using the phrase Google

Webmaster Guidelines and that will take you to a page on Googles website, and on

there it will basically give you some tips on things to do and things not to do. One

of the things you mustnt do is break the guidelines, and the best way of breaking the

guidelines would be to buy links. And as I say that can get your banded so beware.

Link building is something that should occur naturally, certainly if you listen to Google.

Google takes a point of view that if youve got really high quality content, then people

will start naturally linking to you. Obviously, it depends what your websites about.

I have a number of businesses and one of my businesses is, I sell computer training materials,

to basically individuals or organisations that deliver training. Things like Microsoft

Word and what have you. And on that website, I make freely available samples of the complete

courses, so not surprisingly, Ive got literally thousands and thousands of links and I didnt

ask for one of them. Because the quality of the content is so good, and its freely

available as a sample, then an awful lot of people from good websites have linked to that

website. So, that sort of emphasises the fact that if you produce good quality content,

people will link to you. One of the tricks that you can do, to try

and get people linking to you, is to produce tips and tricks sheets or you know, the 101

sheets or something like that. In my case a tips and tricks for SEO, or SEO 101. And

just a simple page with maybe a download on it will actually attract an awful lot of links

from other people Another great way that people miss out on

in a lot of cases, is to use YouTube, the second most widely used search engine after

Google itself. And Google owns YouTube. So, if you can establish your own YouTube

channel, and have original content on it, you will find that you get an awful lot of

traffic through to your website. So, those are the sort of things you need

to consider when youre talking about off-site SEO factors.

SEO Tutorial | SEO and Anchor Text - Duration: 4:22.

In this next tip, were going to look at anchor text.

Anchor text is one of the more important on-site SEO factors. So, what is it? Well.

Here Ive got a page on my website and youll notice Ive got a link here.

Now the link just simply says SEO training. That is the text within the link.

So, the anchor text in this case, is SEO training.

Now what you want to do is to make sure that you pack the anchor text with your useful

keyword phrases. Now, this website, which is one of mine, is www.4seotraining.com.au

and obviously, this site is all about SEO and training.

So, what Ive got here is basically a link, and the only text within the link, as you

can see is SEO Training. And if you look down the bottom here, Ill

just go back there again, you can see down the bottom there is the full link. So, the

link goes to the base address which is www.4seotraining.com.au. And then it goes to a page within this site,

and the name of the page itself is SEO-training-courses-in-Perth-Western-Australia.htm. A bit of a mouthful. But the point is, what

you need to do is to give as many clues as possible to Google, as to what your site is

about. So, in this case, when Google is looking at

the code behind the page, and if you want to look at the code behind the page, can just

right click and go to View Source. And down here this is all of the code.

Now this looks kind of imposing, it looks complicated, but I really would encourage

you to learn a little bit about HTML, the code behind your webpages, and what Ive

just highlighted here is the actual link code. So, that is what Google sees. Ill close

that down for a second, and Ive just pasted the information into a Word document, so that

you can see it more clearly. So, as I say, what Google sees is a link to

the base address, which contains the phrase SEO training, and then it goes to another

page, which contains the words SEO, Training and Perth. Those are all clues that its

about SEO training. And, if that wasnt enough, the anchor text

which makes up the clickable text, that makes up the link, the anchor text in this case

is SEO training. So basically, everything is on message.

And also, if you have a look, the page that it links to, is also about SEO training.

So, this is heavily optimised, so that Google gets the point, that this site is about SEO

and its about training. And thats really what anchor links are

about. Now the same goes for any other SEO technique.

Dont overdo this. You wouldnt want to have lots and lots of links, on the same page

with the anchor text SEO Training. Maybe one would do the trick. And if you wanted

to link to another page, you could use a variation on a theme, dont have exact copies as it

were, and ideally dont have heavily optimised anchor text all point into the same page,

because that could count against you. Youve got to remember that Google doesnt mind

a bit of optimisation but if you over optimise, you are going to get penalised for it.

But thats really all anchor text is. Its the text that makes up the text, within a

clickable link. So, in this case, as I say, the anchor text for this particular link would

be SEO Training. Its a great way of telling Google what

your pages are about.

SEO Tutorial | XML Sitemaps and HTML Sitemaps for 2017 - Duration: 7:34.

Now the next SEO tip I want to share with you concerns site maps.

Now, as always, we start with the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

So, if you havent seen these before, go to Google, search using the phrase Google

Webmaster Guidelines and find this page here from Google.

And if we go down here.

There is you three bits here.

The bit of interest today is this.

Help Google find your pages.

Can you see here it says provide a site map file with links that point the important

pages on your site.

Also, provide a page with human readable list of links to these pages (sometimes called

a site index or a site map page).

Now that is a little bit confusing, so first lets look at whats called an HTML site

map.

There are two types of site map.

There is an HTML site map and an XML site map.

They are totally different things and Google recommends you have both of these.

So first of all, lets look at an HTML site map.

Now if I go to a page on my website, in fact I will view the page first.

Ive got a site map here, so click on About then Sitemap, and if you click on that,

up comes a site map.

This is just an ordinary page.

There is nothing special about it.

So, its an ordinary page on my website, what it does, it contains links to all the

other pages on my website.

And Google recommends that you have one of these, this is called an HTML sitemap.

So, its purely an ordinary page with links to all the other pages.

Now, if I going click on where it says Edit Page here.

This is in WordPress of course.

Ive got a shortcode here called pagelist.

So where does that come from?

Well, within WordPress I go to Plugins, Installed Plugins.

So, Ive already installed this.

So, if we go down here, weve got a plugin called Sitemap.

So first of all, you go and install this within WordPress in the normal way.

As always, if you are installing plugins, I strongly recommend that you back up everything

prior to installing this plugin.

You should be okay, but its always good practice, before you install any new plugin,

to make sure that you do a complete backup first, just to be on the safe side.

So anyway, once you have installed the sitemap plugin, basically you just set the thing up.

Now youve got shortcodes up here.

The one that I am using is called [pagelist].

Which is the word page list, prefixed by an opening square bracket and ending with a closing

square bracket.

You have got various other shortcodes here and you can go and check out the details if

you want to, but the one I recommend is just a simple short code here.

And all you have to do, is take that short code

And then go to your website, and if you then go to my site map page, this is what

the users see, but what Ive actually got on the page, that makes that this work, is

this shortcode, courtesy of that plugin, called Pagelist.

If this doesnt make too much sense, and as I say this is purely for people using WordPress,

within WordPress you have plugins you can install, which are basically extensions to

the base system, and quite often with plugins, you have these little bits of code, called

shortcodes, like this one here.

And the effect of that is, at the back end, I see this, but what the user will see is,

if I show you, is basically the effect of that short code, which is links to all the

other pages.

And if you want a site map, an HTML site map, on a WordPress website, thats it, its

done.

And, the great thing is, that it is dynamically updated, what that means is, if you create

new pages, I wont actually do it, but if you did create a new page, that would automatically

be added to the site map here.

That really is the whole point of the plugin, it automates everything.

So, thats the HTML site map.

If we go back to the Google Webmaster Guidelines, it does indicate rather confusingly, to use

both types.

But it uses Google -type terminology which is not in common use.

Most people would say there are HTML site maps and XML site maps.

So, that brings us onto an XML site map.

What is that?

Well, HTML site maps are really for the benefit of humans, visitors coming to your site, so

they can go to the site map page, and follow the links, but more importantly so can Google.

Now, an XML site map is something that is purely for the benefit of the search engines,

like Google.

Humans dont see it, its purely for the search engines.

And again, if youre using WordPress, then in WordPress you can simply install a plugin.

So, in this case Ive installed a plugin called Google XML Site Generator.

Now once youve installed this plugin, you will find that the settings are hidden away

under Settings, and if you go down here you will find this item called XML Sitemap.

And if you click on that, there are things that you can configure.

In most cases, you will find that you dont need to mess about with this.

You can simply just install it and the system gets on with it.

Now the whole point of the XML site map, is that when Google comes to your website, the

first thing it does it looks for your XML site map.

If it hasnt got one, it says fair enough, and then stumbles around your website, going

from link to link, trying to figure out whats going on, and seeing if theres any new

changes or any new webpages, since its last visit.

So, the idea of the XML site map is that it makes life easier for Google, because Google

looks at the XML site map, and that has details of your new pages, and things like that.

So, its not absolutely essential for SEO to have an XML site map, but it makes life

easier for Google and more to the point, Google recommends that you have one.

And as always with the Google Webmaster Guidelines, if you are serious about your SEO, if Google

says to do something you do it, if Google says not to do something, you dont do it.

But, the great thing about WordPress is that you simply install this XML Sitemap plugin

and thats it, and again it is dynamically updated, so as you add new pages or what have

you, or delete pages, the XML site map will be updated accordingly.

So, there you have it.

Theres two types a site map.

Remember, the HTML site map, which is purely a page on your website, nothing special about

it, and in WordPress we can generated it automatically, but you could do it by hand if you want to,

is just that then you would have to remember to update the site map, every time you added

new pages to your website, so is much easier to have it done automatically.

The XML site map, again, from a WordPress point of view, is very straightforward.

Very simple to install.

And once it is installed, it just works.

And again, going back to the guidelines, the guidelines do say, rather confusingly, have

both types of site map.

-------------------------------------------

SEO Tutorial | Documents and Google Search - Duration: 3:50.

Now the next tip I want to show you is how to use documents within your website.

Now, normally when people talk about websites and SEO, people are thinking about your actual

web pages.

But, what most people dont realise, is that you can have documents within your website

and those documents can also have SEO applied to them.

To illustrate this, as you can see, Ive got Google here, and I typed in the phrase

Google SEO guide.

And here are the results.

The interesting one is look at the one that comes up first.

Can you see is actually marked as a PDF document.

This is a document, not a web page.

If I go and click on this, up comes the document.

As you can see at the top here, this is a PDF file.

So, if I just go back here.

This illustrates what I call the power of documents.

So, do remember you can optimise your webpages, but its also a really good idea, to have

lots of documents within your website, and they can be PDF documents and Word documents.

Its best to have a mixture of both.

The whole point is, that done right, those documents will show up on a regular Google

search.

So, heres the proof, I just searched within ordinary Google for the Google SEO guide.

The first thing that came up was actually a PDF document.

So just in the same way that there are tricks and tricks that you can use for optimising

your individual webpages there are also lots and lots of tricks you can use to optimise

your documents.

So here I am just introducing the concept.

For more details, if you have a look at my premium course, I do show you how to go through

your documents step-by-step, and to optimise them so theyve got a pretty good chance

of showing up in the regular Google results.

But this kind of illustrates the idea.

Now if I go to the Google Advanced Search which is just simply www.google.com/advanced_search

this will take you to this advanced page within Google, and there are all sorts of things

in here, but the interesting bit, if I scroll down, you can search by file type.

Now down here where it says File Type, if I click on the down-arrow here, you can

see that you can search specifically for Adobe PDF files, or maybe for Excel files, or PowerPoint

files, or Word files.

So, what you can do, is upload lots and lots of different document types to your website.

So, the obvious ones would be PDF files and Word documents but also maybe a PowerPoint

presentation.

And if you optimise these correctly for SEO, within the documents themselves, the documents

can actually show up within the search engine results.

You might think well why would I bother.

Lets say that you wanted to get your website well represented on the first page, it would

be nice if your website page came up, but also maybe a document, a Word document or

PDF document, which was linked to from your website.

That could show up in your search engine results as well.
