Youtube daily Feb 12 2017

Hey there, Lily here!

Welcome back to my Ask Lily video!

I answer your questions, no matter what!

10 from Twitter and 10 from the comments of my latest Ask Lily video!

Do you like the new set up?

Looks cute.

It's an improvement from the other place; it's much comfier.

We have the lovely Teridox Music back here to narrate some of your questions.

We're going to be streaming Neverending Nightmares on Saturday at 3 pm PST.

This is gonna be a spoooooky one, so I'd recommend you watch it in the dark.

We'll have a lot of fun, trust me!

So, let's get started!

He got the desk for videos that require more standing like his rants, skits, our sex ta-

I mean videos of me, stuff like that. Not hiding, but yeah, I'm in his house.

I'm in that room that chief couldn't show yet.

Lemme show you if you don't remember.

Welllllll….kinda already did that on twitter.

See?

So you're kinda too late on that.

Lemme show you!

Hyyyyah!

I'm "technically" one year old, but in fox years, I just turned 22.

In either case, I can't date you.

Sorry bout that.

Plus, I got chief, and he's enough for me right now.

I dunno, Probably lick it, get all of the ice cream on his fingers, get allll sticky.

It's all in good fun, so I don't take it too seriously.

But if I were to pick the winners, I would have picked Re:Zero for anime of the year,

Kira for Best Villain, Megumin for Best Girl, Re:Zero for Best Animation, Kayo's first

homecooked meal for Most Heartwarming Scene, Subaru and Rem for Best Couple, Konosuba for

Best Comedy, Mob Psycho 100 for Best Opening and Re:Zero for Best Ending.

The others I'd leave the same.

I've said it before, so instead of saying it again, I'll let you find it on my earlier

Ask Lily videos.

Mwahahahahahhahahaaaaaa!

Maybe, maybe.

It's a possibility he could be…my BROTHER??

Hmmm…nah.

Let's get onto the YouTube questions!

That's good.

I mean the whole cheering up thing, not the broken TV.

You should probably clean that up if you haven't.

Cuz glass hurts.

It's great that content like mine can cheer up a person.

I would have thought that all I do is be cute and do random stuff for people to watch a

couple minutes at a time.

I like huskies too!

That's pretty cool.

I also like the little wiener dogs, pitbulls, and corgis.

Oh, and any little fluffy dog.

Only when I'm working.

When I'm not working, I get wear them cuz they look cool.

They kinda make me look like a pilot.

I dunno if I do.

I think so, but I don't remember much about it.

So, I can't tell you.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

TIS I!

EVIL LILY!

No, call me LILITH!

I WILL BEAT THE LIVING SH- I have, but it's been a LONG time since then.

I think my fastest speed was 4?

Maybe 5 tile a second?

I dunno, I'm leaning more towards 4 tiles.

Yeah, I have.

And it's because he still owes me my freaking bishies!

But I still love him anyways!

It's nice.

More room, more ventilation, more room for me to roll around, a place for Miku to do

her…daily activities…and it's a great location.

That's easy.

It's because if everything has boobs, everything can have fan service.

Everybody here loves fan service!

Even tanks and ships have boobs!

I wouldn't date either of them, but I'd care for them both.

But, if I were to choose one for each, I guess I'd date Chocola and care for Azuki.

It's hard to choose just one.

I'd probably choose…Sakura Dungeon.

It has a lot of "quality" art for both the steam version and the 18+ version.

I'd highly recommend, 11/10, IGN.

8 Creative Ways Animals Store Food - Duration: 9:07.

It's a pretty common problem.

You have some food, you chow down ... and you get full, so you want to save some for

later, when you're hungry again.

Or maybe you know that you won't be able to get more food for a while, so you stockpile.

You protect your stash from others, and try to keep it from spoiling.

Now, I don't want to sound like I'm bragging here, but humans are pretty good at this.

We invented canning and drying; refrigeration and freezing; pasteurization and all kinds

of preservatives.

You name it, we've probably done it to make food last longer.

But other animals have some tricks up their sleeves, too.

So here are 8 wacky techniques our fellow food-lovers have come up with to stay alive.

King penguins store food in a super convenient place: their stomachs.

And they can keep it there, undigested, for weeks at a time.

The birds breed on subantarctic islands, and once the female lays the egg, both parents

will take turns watching the nest while the other goes fishing.

Usually, the male penguin takes the last shift before the egg hatches.

But sometimes the female is delayed getting back, because the birds' foods of choice

are lanternfish and squid that live 400-500 kilometers south.

So, to make sure the infant bird has something to eat in case mom is late, a penguin father

will come back from his last foraging trip with a full stomach.

And for up to three weeks after he gets back, he'll live off his fat reserves and preserve

his stomach contents -- a tasty mash of fish and squid parts ready to be coughed up into

a hungry chick's mouth.

It's enough food to nourish the chick for 9-10 days.

What's especially strange about this is that the food doesn't rot, even though it's

just sitting around.

At first, scientists thought that the penguins might preserve the food by lowering the temperature

inside their stomachs to basically turn themselves into mini fridges.

But their stomachs are actually a toasty 38 degrees Celsius.

It turns out that they keep the food fresh by making their stomachs less acidic, which

keeps digestive enzymes from processing the food, and by stopping their stomach muscles

from churning it too much.

They also release antimicrobial proteins called

spheniscins to stave off bacteria and fungi.

Shrikes are smallish birds that you might underestimate … until you see them spear

their prey on thorns, pointy branches, or even barbed wire -- whatever sharp object

they can find.

Then they'll spend the next couple of days ripping pieces off these ad-hoc skewers and

eating them.

It's thought that shrikes evolved this special butchering method because unlike other birds

of prey, they don't have talons to help pull apart meat.

Shrikes also don't have crops, the internal pouches many birds use to store food, so they

can't eat their entire kill all at once.

Instead, they have to be dainty about it — if you can call regularly ripping flesh off of

a spit dainty.

They'll also impale their food to detoxify it, which gives them more options for food sources.

Loggerhead shrikes in Florida, for instance, are known to spear poisonous species, including

the notorious lubber grasshopper, which is so toxic that it doesn't have many predators.

The grasshoppers are dangerous to the birds when they're fresh, but after one to two

days decomposing on a stick, the chemicals degrade and lose their potency.

If you're thinking that it must be risky to leave your food out in the open on a stick,

you're right.

These stashes are often raided by other animals.

But for shrikes, that risk is actually important, because if a male has lots of food stored

up, that's a signal to females that he's good provider.

During mating season, males will even add inedible items like rags or pieces of eggshell

to make their spiky pantries look bigger and draw attention to them.

And in many cases, they won't eat all the food — it's just for show.

Once it's time to incubate eggs or feed babies, though, the larders become much more

important for sustenance.

The birds will eat more of the food and keep the stores closer to their nests and better hidden.

Their chicks are born with an instinct to impale.

Young birds will start by playing with inedible objects with their bills in what's officially

called "dabbing."

Yep, baby birds have better dance moves than you.

OK, so we all know about squirrels and their precious acorns.

But red squirrels primarily eat pine cones -- and also collect and store a more unusual treat:

mushrooms.

They preserve the mushrooms by hanging them in trees to dry, then move them to safe hideaways

to snack on later.

The 'mushroom jerky' comes in at least 89 varieties, and includes some pretty highbrow

stuff — like false truffles, which are mushrooms that look a lot like the truffles you'll

find in fancy food.

And for some squirrels, mushrooms aren't just a side dish.

For red squirrels in New Brunswick, Canada, anywhere between 35-95% of their diet is fungi,

depending on mushroom availability and whether they can find other kinds of food.

They'll typically capture lots of mushrooms in the summer, then preserve and save them

to eat during the winter.

Some squirrels seem to prefer bare branches -- and therefore dead trees -- as dehydration spots.

They'll then store the mushrooms in tree hollows, or in the tangles in trees known

as witches' brooms.

But squirrels will also use whatever dehydration and storage spots they can get.

In 1911, for example, a fur warden found an abandoned cabin in Alaska full of preserved fungi.

A red squirrel had broken in, dried mushrooms on all the shelves, and stowed the pieces

in empty cans.

One way to avoid the headache of preservation is to just keep your prey alive, but trapped.

And that's exactly what moles do.

They'll hunt earthworms and insect larvae in dirt, then bite off their heads to immobilize

them.

They'll stash the food in the walls of their tunnels, or in special chambers near nests,

to eat later.

And it's a good strategy: some moles pack those chambers with more than 1,200 worms.

Moles are such effective earthworm hunters that scientists think worms have actually

evolved an instinctive response to avoid them.

When they sense mole-like vibrations in the ground, worms will escape to the surface.

Unlike squirrels and lots of other food-caching animals, moles don't store up for a specific season.

They're active year-round, searching for and nabbing worms for their collections.

But frozen ground does make it easier to grab prey, so they'll collect more worms in the winter.

Winter also helps with another problem: the worms eventually regrow their heads, which

means they can move again.

But when the ground is frozen, they can't squirm away.

Shrews, like moles, are master tunnelers with a taste for earthworms, though they also like

snails, insects, and the occasional small mammal.

But some shrews add an extra element to their hunting strategy: venom.

The American short-tailed shrew has what's called blarina toxin in its saliva, which

subdues victims after a bite.

Since the meal is alive, it won't spoil.

And since it's paralyzed, it also can't run away.

Shrews really need to keep extra meals around, especially if they're going to survive the winter.

See, shrews have ridiculously high metabolisms -- they need to eat their weight in food every day

And during the colder months, food can be harder to come by.

The venom might also let certain shrews take on larger animals like frogs.

And when you have a shrew's metabolism, anything that gives you more food options

is an advantage.

But not all burrowing mammals with a penchant for hoarding are meat-eaters.

The pika doesn't have a lightning bolt-shaped

tail, and you can't catch it with a PokeBall.

Instead, it's a small creature that looks like a cross between a mouse and rabbit, is

perfectly happy eating plants.

Problem is, American pikas live in the mountains of western North America, where it can be

pretty hard to find plants it can eat in the winter.

So pikas collect hay in the summer, dry it, and save stashes between rocks to eat when it's cold.

But there's more to this than just saving food for later.

Wildlife biologists have noticed that the plants pikas eat in the summer aren't the

same plants they save for winter.

The hay they store contains much higher levels of tannins, the bitter organic molecules you'll

also find in wine.

And for many animals, probably including pikas, tannins are toxic.

But with time and dehydration, tannins degrade.

And in the meantime, they help preserve the hay.

So, the pika can eat plenty of the good, non-toxic stuff while it's foraging, and collect and

save the bad hay until it's aged into a tastier, safer food.

The tayra, a weasel relative found in Central

and South America, also uses time to its advantage.

Tayras are known to pick plantains when they're green, hide them away, and come back a few

days later to eat them when they're ripe.

The animals will do something similar with

sapotes, a type of native fruit, which will only ripen off the plant once it's already mature.

Now, tayras will eat pretty much anything, and these fruits are just one part of their diet.

But the idea that an animal seems to have the foresight to grab a food before it's

ripe -- and to pick it at just the right time -- has some scientists wondering if tayras

and other animals with similar habits are capable of what's called prospective thinking.

Is the tayra taking the fruits because it knows that if it picks them now, it can eat

them later?

Or does it just work out that way?

This type of future planning was thought to be limited to just apes and some birds.

But now that they've discovered these unusual food storage techniques, biologists are starting

to rethink that.

Even if the tayra is cognitively advanced, it's hard to beat the tiny marine ragworm

at the food storage game.

Because these guys dabble in farming.

Ragworms live in beaches and estuaries, burrowing in sand and mud.

Most of their food isn't that nutritious — they'll slurp up pretty much any organic

material and scavenge for meals.

But they'll also pull cordgrass seeds into their tunnels.

At first, biologists thought the ragworms were just eating the seeds.

But it turns out that they actually can't eat them right away — they can't get through

the seeds' thick husks.

So instead, a ragworm will stick the seed in the sand, and a few weeks or months later,

it sprouts into a little plant that the ragworm can eat.

It's like the worm version of a protein shake — a convenient, nutritious meal.

So whether they're impaling their meals, spreading them out to dry, or biting heads

off, animals have lots of ways to save their food for later.

Even if they don't have access to refrigerators or fancy preservatives.

CloseUP: Gov. Sununu on Right to Work, education - Duration: 8:06.

JOSH: WELCOME BACK.

I AM JOINED BY GOVERNOR CHRIS

SUNUNU, RIGHT AFTER HIS FIRST

LEGIT ADDRESS -- BUDGET ADDRESS.

WE HAVE SEEN THIS DEBATE OVER

RIGHT TO WORK BEFORE.

YOU SAID IT WILL SIGN IT IF IT

MAKES TO YOUR DESK.

FOLKS WHO KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON

IN THE HOUSE.

SO WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE

HOUSE?

GOV. SUNUNU: YOU HAVE TO ASK THE

SPEAKER.

WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH HOUSE

MEMBERS.

WE KNOW IT WILL BE A CLOSE VOTE.

IT IS NOT JUST A UNION ISSUE.

IT IS ABOUT POSSIBILITY

EMPLOYERS HAVE.

IT IS ABOUT SENDING A MESSAGE

THAT WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS,

ABOUT COMMITTING TO THE AGENDA A

LOT OF US WERE ELECTED FOR.

IF IT HITS MY DESK, I AM HAPPY

TO SIGN IT.

JOSH: PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THIS A

LOT.

THE WORKFORCE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE,

THE PROBLEM IS NOT NOT ENOUGH

JOBS, IT IS NOT ENOUGH QUALIFIED

PEOPLE TO FILL THOSE JOBS.

HOW DO WE MAKE SURE PEOPLE --

GOV. SUNUNU: WE HAVE UNTAPPED

POTENTIAL.

WE HAVE LOW UNEMPLOYMENT.

IN SOME WAYS, ALMOST TOO LOW.

A REALLY SIGNIFIES A PROBLEM

WITH LACK OF WORKFORCE.

BUT WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT BEING

OPEN FOR BUSINESS, MORE

BUSINESSES COMING HERE, DOING

SOME OF THE THINGS WE TALKED

ABOUT IN THE BUDGET TODAY,

HELPING STUDENTS WITH THAT OR --

DEBT OR TAKING THEIR FIRST STEPS

IN THE WORKFORCE, THESE ARE

PIECES OF THE PUZZLE TO DRIVE

AND GET A MORE FORCEFUL ECONOMY.

ADDING TO THAT WE HAVE ALL OF

THIS OPPORTUNITY, WE HAVE GREAT

QUALITY OF LIFE.

IF HE CAN GET THESE THINGS DONE,

WE WILL BECOME THE ECONOMIC

DRIVER FOR THE REST OF NEW

ENGLAND.

WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET

BACK TO WHERE WE WERE, WHERE WE

ARE THE FIRST CHOICE FOR

BUSINESSES TO COME.

JOSH: YOU WILL REACH OUT TO 100

BUSINESSES FOR THE FIRST 100

DAYS.

WHEN YOU'RE TALKING TO THESE

BUSINESSES, IS THAT A QUESTION

THEY ARE ASKING?

WHERE IS NEW HAMPSHIRE WHEN IT

COMES TO WRITE TO WORK?

GOV. SUNUNU: ABSOLUTELY.

I HAVE TALKED TO MANY DISEASES

-- BUSINESSES ABOUT THAT.

IT IS NOT THE ONLY THING THEY

ASKED.

RAKING DOWN REGULATION, ENERGY

COSTS.

WE PROPOSE 20% OF THE RENEWABLE

ENERGY FIND TO BE DIRECTED TO

LOW INCOME FAMILIES WHO OFTEN

HAVE TO SUBSIDIZE THE HIGH COST

OF RENEWABLE ENERGY.

LET'S MAKE SURE LOW INCOME FOLKS

ARE GETTING THE FIRST BREAKS WE

CAN.

ALL OF THOSE THINGS PLAY INTO

THE PUZZLE WHEN WE TALK TO THE

FIRST 100 BUSINESSES.

WE WILL PROBABLY HAVE 140 TO 150

BUSINESSES HERE IN THE FIRST 100

DAYS.

WE HAVE MEETINGS SET UP FROM

HERE TO NEXT YEAR.

JOSH: WANT TO NAME NAMES?

GOV. SUNUNU: I CANNOT.

JOSH: BUT WHEN IT COMES TO

ENERGY, WE SAW WHAT HAPPENED

WITH -- I CANNOT REMEMBER THE

NAME OF THE COMPANY -- THEY

CHOSE TO EXTEND TO ARKANSAS

BECAUSE OF THE HIGH COST OF

ENERGY HERE.

IS THERE RECOGNITION THAT THIS

IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE

ADDRESSED?

GOV. SUNUNU: THERE ARE A LOT OF

DIFFERENT STEPS WE NEED TO TAKE

TO GET ENERGY PRICES DOWN.

ONE OF THE THINGS I PROPOSED

THIS WEEK WAS TO CREATE A NEW

DEPARTMENT FOR ECONOMIC

DEVELOPMENT.

A NEW DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS

DEVELOPMENT AS A ONE-STOP SHOP

THAT CAN DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES.

WHETHER HEALTH CARE OR HIGH

ENERGY COSTS.

THIS IS SOMETHING WE ARE TALKING

ABOUT SERIOUSLY.

IT WILL TAKE TIME.

DO WE NEED MORE NATURAL GAS IN

THE STATE, SURE.

BUT WE HAVE TO DO IT THE RIGHT

WAY.

DO WE NEED THE RENEWABLE POWER

NORTHERN PASS CAN PROVIDE,

ABSOLUTELY.

BUT THESE WILL PLAY INTO A

BIGGER PUZZLE OF GETTING ENERGY

COSTS DOWN.

JOSH: YOU ARE A NOMINEE TO RUN

THE -- YOUR NOMINEE TO RUN THE

STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION,

THE CRITIQUE ON HIM AS HE DOES

NOT HAVE A BACKGROUND ON

EDUCATION AND PERHAPS SOME OF

HIS VIEWS ARE TOO CONSERVATIVE.

WHY DO YOU THINK HE IS THE RIGHT

CHOICE?

GOV. SUNUNU: IF YOU SIT WITH

FRANK EDELBLUM, YOU WILL REALIZE

THERE IS ALMOST NO ONE ELSE IN

THE STATE WHO UNDERSTANDS WHAT

IS HAPPENING IN THAT DEPARTMENT,

THE OPPORTUNITIES AT THE LOCAL

LEVEL, AND SCHOOL CHOICE.

SCHOOL CHOICE IS NOT PUBLIC

SCHOOL OR NOT?

IT IS ONE OF THE PATHWAYS WE CAN

CREATE IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL

SYSTEM FOR OUR STUDENTS.

PROMOTING CAREER SCHOOL.

CAN STUDENTS TEST OUT ON A

SUBJECT THEY ARE PROFICIENT IN

TO SPEND MORE TIME IN MORE

CAREER ORIENTED CLASSES?

THESE ARE THE INNOVATIONS FRANK

WANTS TO PUT ON THE TABLE.

THAT IS WHERE 21ST CENTURY

EDUCATION IS GOING.

WE HAVE TO GET INNOVATIVE AND

AGGRESSIVE ABOUT EXPLORING NEW

IDEAS.

JOSH: BUT WHEN IT COMES TO

SCHOOL CHOICE, A LOT OF PEOPLE

ARE QUESTIONING THE USE OF TAX

DOLLARS FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

HOW IS THAT CASE MADE?

GOV. SUNUNU: SCHOOL CHOICE COMES

IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT WAYS.

MAYBE A PARENT CAN SAY I WOULD

LOVE TO HOMESCHOOL MY CHILD, BUT

I DO NOT HAVE THAT ABILITY, I AM

STUCK OWING TO A POORLY OR

FAILING PUBLIC SCHOOL.

NO ONE SHOULD BE STUCK DOING

ANYTHING WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR

CHILD'S EDUCATION.

WE HAVE TO PROVIDE FLEXIBILITY,

PROVIDE WAYS FOR THE DOLLARS TO

FOLLOW THE CHILD.

JOSH: ANOTHER NOMINEE, ATTORNEY

GENERAL.

DO YOU WANT TO BREAK ANY NEWS?

GOV. SUNUNU: NO, BUT WE ARE

EXPLORING A LOT OF DIFFERENT

DEPARTMENTS.

IT IS SOMETHING WE TRY TO TALK

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE ABOUT

ALL THE TIME.

THERE IS LOTS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR

FOLKS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR FOR

FOLKS WHO WANT TO HELP OUT.

MAYBE THEY WANT TO BE ON THE

BOARD OF DIETITIANS, THE BORDER

EDUCATION.

I ENCOURAGE FOLKS TO CONTACT OUR

OFFICE.

WE ARE BUILDING A PORTAL NOW SO

PEOPLE CAN ACCESS THIS ONLINE.

WE WANT TO MAKE IT EASY AND

ACCESSIBLE FOR FOLKS SO THEY CAN

PARTICIPATE.

WE ARE BRINGING IN THE BEST AND

BRIGHTEST.

JOSH: YOU ARE ALWAYS VERY

ENTHUSIASTIC AND OPTIMISTIC AND

FULL OF ENERGY.

GOV. SUNUNU: I AM FULL OF

RAINBOWS AND UNICORNS.

[LAUGHTER]

JOSH: SO HOW HAS IT BEEN?

IT IS LOST ON A LOT OF PEOPLE

THAT YOU DID NOT HAVE THE

BENEFIT OF A REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR

TO SHOW YOU THE ROPES.

YOU ARE THE FIRST REPUBLICAN

GOVERNOR SINCE 2002.

WAS THAT DIFFICULT?

GOV. SUNUNU: IT WAS NOT

DIFFICULT.

IT IS ANY NEW JOB.

I WAS ABLE TO LEAN ON FOLKS LIKE

SENATOR CHUCK MORRIS AND SPEAKER

JASPER.

GOVERNOR HASSAN'S TRANSITION

TEAM WAS HELPFUL IN PROVIDING

INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE.

GOVERNOR HASSAN IS A NEIGHBOR.

SHE LIVES DOWN THE ROAD, AND WE

ARE GOOD FRIENDS.

IT IS A SMALL STATE.

EVEN WHEN YOU DO NOT AGREE

POLITICALLY, YOU HAVE TO BREAK

DOWN THE BARRIERS OF

PARTISANSHIP, REACH ACROSS THE

AISLE.

I THINK EVERYONE WANTS THE BEST.

WHETHER YOU AGREE POLITICALLY OR

NOT WITH FOLKS IN HIM, PEOPLE

WANT THE BEST FOR THE 1.3

MILLION PEOPLE WE REPRESENT.

THAT IS IT.

IT IS ALL ABOUT OUTCOMES.

HIS PRIORITIES.

AND WE GET THE DEMOCRATIC

RESPONSE TO HIS SPENDING

PROPOSAL.

I AM JOSH MCELVEEN.

FROM MONEY TO FULL DAY IN A

GARDEN TO CRITICAL INTRODUCTORY

-- TWO FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN TO

CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

PROJECTS, WE FIND OUT ABOUT

CHRIS SUNUNU'S BUDGET.

HE IS OUR FIRST GUEST.

TELL ME DID NOT MISS THE SUPER

BOWL.

GOV. SUNUNU: ARE YOU KIDDING?

I THINK WE ARE ALL STILL WE

LIVING IT MENTALLY.

GREAT NIGHT.

I THINK IT MADE FOR A TOUGH

MONDAY MORNING FOR A LOT OF US.

WE WERE PROBABLY DRAGGING A

LITTLE.

BUT IT WAS SO EXCITING.

WE WERE INVITED TO BE PART OF

THE PARADE, BUT I SAID NO

BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO

DO.

JOSH: NO QUESTION.

YOU HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS

BUDGET FOR A WHILE.

YOU DESCRIBED IT AS A PLEASANT

EXPERIENCE.

GOV. SUNUNU: IT IS SO GREAT,

WHEN YOU GET TO WORK INTO THE

NUMBERS.

VERY FEW IN THE STATE CAN SAY

OUR TEAM WAS NOT THE BEST AND

THE BRIGHTEST.

FINDING ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE,

TRUE ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE, HONEST

ABOUT A TRUE ASSESSMENT.

I DO NOT WANT TO USE THE WORD

"GIMMICK" TOO MUCH, BUT THERE

WERE A FEW GIMMICKS.

THERE WERE A FEW THAT PREVIOUS

ADMINISTRATIONS HAD USED TO MAKE

THE BUDGET LOOK MORE ROSY THAN

IT REALLY IS.

BUT LET'S BE HONEST.

FIRST, WE STARTED WITH A

BASELINE WE COULD AGREE ON.

THEN WE MADE SURE OUR PRIORITIES

AND NEEDS WERE TAKING CARE OF.

JOSH: AS FAR AS SPENDING FOR THE

BIGGEST INCREASES PER AGENCIES,

THE QUARTERLY REPORTS AND THINGS

ALONG THOSE LINES, OVERSIGHTS

THAT WERE NOT THERE BEFORE, WAS

THAT JUST GOOD MANAGING OR WERE

THERE SOME PROBLEMS?

GOV. SUNUNU: AS YOU GO THROUGH

ANY BUSINESS AND EVEN IN YOUR

HOME BUDGET, YOU LOOK AT WHAT

YOU TRULY SPEND YOUR MONEY ON

EVERY MONTH.

IN THIS STATE, WE DO NOT KNOW

WHAT WE SPEND OUR MONEY ON

MONTH-TO-MONTH.

IF YOU WANT TO MANAGE, YOU HAVE

TO BE NIMBLE AND FLEXIBLE.

TO DO THAT, I AM ASKING THE

COMMISSIONER TO COME THROUGH

WITH ORDERLY REPORTS ON THE

REVENUE AND THE SPEND SIDE.

SO IF THERE ARE OVERSIGHTS AND

OPPORTUNITIES, WE CAN TAKE

ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

JOSH: EDUCATION.

FLAT FUNDING FOR THE UNIVERSITY

SYSTEM.

THAT MAY SURPRISE PEOPLE.

BUT YOU BALANCE THAT WITH A

SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?

GOV. SUNUNU: WHEN WE LOOK AT

POST SECONDARY EDUCATION,

WHETHER YOU DIVERSITY, COLLEGE,

OR THE ABILITY TO GET A PRIVATE

CERTIFICATION, WE NEED TO STOP

LOOKING AT IT IN TERMS OF THE

INSTITUTION.

LET'S START LOOKING AT THE

OUTCOMES PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL WE

DO FOR THE WORKFORCE, AND

EVERYONE MIGHT HAVE EIGHT --

LET'S START LOOKING AT THE

OUTCOMES, WHAT WE DO FOR THE

WORKFORCE, AND EVERYONE MIGHT

HAVE A PATH.

A MINIMUM WITH 1000 STUDENTS,

AND THEY CAN DECIDE WHAT TO DO

WITH THE MONEY.

IT IS PRIMARILY FOCUSED ON NEED

RAISED.

THOSE ARE THE KIDS AND STUDENTS

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE ARE

DIRECTING INTO OUR WORKFORCE AS

OPPOSED TO DRIVING THEM OUT OF

STATE.

JOSH: WHEN YOU CAME INTO THIS

THING, WHAT WERE THE PRIORITIES?

GOV. SUNUNU: CHILDREN.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE.

WHAT WE ARE DOING AT

CORRECTIONS.

WORKFORCE INITIATIVES.

DEALING WITH THE POST SECONDARY

WORLD AND MAKING SURE WE ARE

LOOKING AT IT IN A GLOBAL FACET.

HEALTH CARE.

WE PAY NURSES AND PETITIONERS IN

THIS STATE SO LOW.

THIS IS A CAPITALISTIC MARKET.

THE FACT IS A LOT OF PEOPLE

LEAVE THE STATE OR THAT

PROFESSION TO GO ELSEWHERE.

WE NEED TO RETAIN THOSE WORKERS.

WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE ARE

PAYING THEM FAIR AND APPROPRIATE

WAGES.

JOSH: THE DRUGS ARE -- THE CRUG

CZAR, YOU ARE CREATING A

RECOVERY SPECIALIST TO ASSIST

HIM.

IS THAT ENOUGH?

GOV. SUNUNU: UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN

DEALING WITH THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE

CRISIS, NOTHING IS EVER ENOUGH.

WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY PUSH

OURSELVES TO DO MORE.

WE ARE DOUBLING THE ALCOHOL

FUND.

SOME FOLKS --

JOSH: WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

GOV. SUNUNU: WE TAKE 1.7% OF

REVENUES THAT COME FROM THE

LIQUOR COMMISSION AND ALLOCATED

TO A FUND WHERE WE CAN LOOK AT

SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES.

WE STILL HAVE MONEY IN THAT

FUND.

$2 MILLION UNSPENT, WHICH IS A

PROBLEM.

ONCE I REALIZED THAT, I SAID WE

HAVE TO GET THAT MONEY OUT.

IN THE MEANTIME, WE WILL DOUBLE

IT.

IT IS FLEXIBLE DOLLARS.

IT CAN GO TO BUILDING BEDS OR

FIXING FACILITIES OR HIRING

STAFF.

JOSH: IT SEEMS LIKE THERE HAS

BEEN AN APPLICATION OF DOLLARS

TO A LOT OF AREAS OF NEED IN

THE STATE.

$57 MILLION FOR ADULT MENTALLY

DISABLED.

SOME MAY BE ASKING WHERE IS THIS

MONEY COMING FROM?

GOV. SUNUNU: WHEN YOU LOOK AT

THE REVENUE PROJECTIONS THAT THE

HOUSE, SENATE, INDEPENDENT THIRD

PARTIES HAVE PUT FORWARD, WE ARE

KIND OF AVERAGE.

WE TRIED TO PLAY THIS

CONSERVATIVELY.

SO ABOUT 2.5% OF REVENUE

INCREASES THAT WE COULD SEE COME

INTO THE STATES.

THERE ARE DEPARTMENTS THAT ARE

FLAT-FOOTED.

THEY ARE FINE.

WE DO NOT NEED TO BOOST THEM UP.

WE NEED TO MAKE SURE POTENTIAL

DOLLARS THERE ARE REFOCUSED.

IT IS ABOUT REFOCUSING DOLLARS.

THERE ARE NO NEW TAXES IN THE

BUDGET.

IT IS ABOUT REALLOCATING WHERE

THE MONEY GOES.

WE HAD TO MAKE HARD DECISIONS.

THAT IT GOES BACK TO YOUR FIRST

QUESTION.

WHAT OUR NEEDS?

DIVISION OF CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND

FAMILIES.

OUR CASELOAD IS TOO HIGH FOR OUR

SOCIAL WORKERS.

WE HAVE TO GET THEM THE PAY AND

INCREASES THEY NEED TO DEAL WITH

THAT.

JOSH: AND STAFFING SPECIFICALLY.

GOV. SUNUNU: ABSOLUTELY.

IT IS ABOUT MAKING SURE WE FOCUS

ON WHERE WE NEED TO FOCUS.

SO THE BUDGET THE NEXT FEW YEARS

GOES UP 2%, AND SPENDING GOES UP

1%.

IT IS AS FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE

OF A BUDGET THAT THE STATE HAS

SEEN, BUT WE ARE PROUD TO SAY

THAT AGAIN NEED -- IT CAN MEET

THE PRIORITY OF THE STATE.

JOSH: THE DEMOCRATIC RESPONSE

INDICATED THAT THIS IS COMPLETE

AN EXTENSION OF GOVERNOR

HASSAN'S BUDGET AND YOUR TAKING

ADVANTAGE OF THE SURPLUS.

GOV. SUNUNU: DID GOVERNOR HASSAN

PROPOSE FOR DAY KINDERGARTEN?

A MILLION-DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP

FUND THAT ANYONE CAN ACCESS?

WE CAN GO DOWN THE LIST OF

THINGS THAT WE ARE PROPOSING FOR

THE FIRST TIME.

A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS TO

HELP INTERNET -- FIGHT INTERNET

PREDATORS.

WE ARE FOCUSING OUR PRIORITIES.

WE HAVE DONE THE HARD WORK TO

UNDERSTAND THE DETAILS OF THE

BUDGET SO WE CAN UNDERSTAND

WHERE WE CAN BE FLEXIBLE.

JOSH: I DO NOT KNOW HOW INTERNET

CRIMES HAS BEEN DOING IT SO FAR.

UNBELIEVABLE.

A LOT OF PEOPLE, DEMOCRATS, ARE

ASKING ABOUT MEDICAID EXPANSION.

GOV. SUNUNU: IT IS NOT PART OF

OUR STATE BUDGET.

IT COMES UP NEXT YEAR.

THERE ARE NO TAX DOLLARS THAT GO

INTO IT, SO IT IS NOT PART OF

THE CONVERSATION THIS YEAR.

I THINK NEXT SPRING'S WHEN WE

LOOK TO RENEW IT.

SO IT IS NOT PART OF THE

DISCUSSION.

Photoshop Tutorial: How to Create the Look of Realistic Tattoos - Duration: 6:33.

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.

I'm going to show you how to add a realistic-looking tattoo to skin.

This is an update of tutorials I've done quite awhile ago on earlier versions of Photoshop.

I provided this image that you can download, as well as this tattoo design, so you can follow along.

Their links are located in my video's description or project files below.

The first step is to make and save you subject as a displacement map, which will enable our

tattoo design to wrap itself around the contours of the body.

To do this, make a copy of the layer by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + J.

Displacement maps work best when its blurred.

Go to Filter, Blur and Gaussian Blur.

I'll blur it 6 pixels.

If you're using a different image, you may want to use a different amount in order to

blur it approximately this much.

Go to File and "Save As".

Save it to a location that's easy to find.

I'll save it to my desktop.

Name it, "Displacement" and save it as a Photoshop PSD file.

Then, click "Save".

If you see this message, just click OK.

Now that we've saved the displacement file, we can delete it from our Layers panel.

Press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Open the tattoo design.

We want to separate the art from the white background.

There are many ways to do this, but for this example, first, click the lock icon to unlock the layer.

Open the Channels panel.

if your don't see it, go to Window and Channels.

Ctrl-click or Cmd-click the thumbnail of the RGB channel to make a selection of the tattoo design.

Open back your Layers panel and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the white background.

To deselect it, press Ctrl or Cmd + D.

We'll convert our tattoo design into a Smart Object, which will allow us to adjust, change

or modify the filters that we'll be adding to it at any time.

Click the icon at the upper, right of the Layers panel and click "Convert to Smart Object".

To place the the design onto our photo, make sure you Move Tool is active by pressing "v"

on your keyboard and dragging the design onto the tab of the photo.

Without releasing your mouse or pen, drag it down and release.

To adjust its size and position, open your Transform Tool by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + T.

Go to a corner and when you see a diagonal, double-arrow, press and hold Alt or Option

+ Shift as you drag it out or in to a size you like.

To reposition it, go inside the bounding box and drag it.

If you want to angle it, go back to a corner and when you see a curved, double-arrow,

rotate it to angle you like.

Then, press Enter or Return.

Go to Filter, Distort and Displace.

I'll displace it 15 pixels, however, feel free to experiment with the amount.

Tick "Stretch to Fit" and "Repeat Edge Pixels".

Click the Displacement file that you saved earlier and click "Open".

Immediately, the tattoo wraps itself around the contours of your subject.

Change its Blend Mode to Soft Light.

I'll reduce its opacity to 90%.

You can adjust it later if you want.

Double-click the grey area of the tattoo layer to open its Layer Style window.

Click Color Overlay and change its Blend Mode to Linear Burn.

Click the color box and pick a color for your tattoo.

The hexadecimal code for mine is: 007EFF.

I'll make its opacity: 50%.

I'll click "Outer Glow" to blend in an optional subtle skin redness that you often see on healing tattoos.

The color that I chose for this particular image is: 440503.

The Blend Mode is Normal, the Opacity is 50% and the Size is 3 pixels.

Lastly, to hide areas of the tattoo, click the Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask next to the tattoo layer.

Open your Brush Tool and Brush picker.

I'll make the Size: 25 pixels, the Hardness: 0% and the Opacity & Flow: 100%.

Brush over the areas of your subject where you'd like to hide the tattoo.

This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.

Thanks for watching!

CloseUP: State Sen. Woodburn, D, offers take on Sununu budget plan - Duration: 5:43.

JOSH: WELCOME BACK.

THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET PROPOSALS

ARE JUST PROPOSALS AT THIS

POINT.

THE REPUBLICANS CONTROL THE

HOUSE AND THE SENATE.

WE HAVE DEMOCRATIC MINORITY

LEADER SENATOR JEFF WOODBURN

HERE.

GOOD TO SEE YOU.

HOW DO YOU GRADE THE GOVERNOR'S

FIRST BUDGET ADDRESS?

SEN. WOODBURN: WE LOOK FORWARD

TO WORKING WITH A GOVERNOR.

WE ARE ENCOURAGED BY SOME OF HIS

PROPOSALS.

IT IS ALWAYS THE DETAILS

IMPORTANT IN THE

WE HEARD A SPEECH BE WOULD -- WE

HEARD A SPEECH.

WE DID NOT HAVE ADVANCED

INFORMATION TO START AN ANALYSIS

OF IT.

BUT THE IMPORTANT POINT IS THE

FACTS.

STARTING WITH WHAT THE AUDITORS

ARE TELLING US, WE HAVE $160

MILLION SURPLUS, AND THE

GOVERNOR SAYS WE DO NOT HAVE A

SURPLUS.

WE ARE HOPEFUL WE CAN FIND A WAY

TO WORK TOGETHER THE WAY NEW

HAMPSHIRE HAS DONE IN THE PAST

TWO CRAFT A BIPARTISAN BUDGET.

WE ARE LOOKING AT HOW TO EXPAND

OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE.

WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

JOSH: FROM WHAT WE DO KNOW ABOUT

THIS BUDGET, AND AS HE SAID,

DETAILS WILL, OUT, WHAT DO YOU

LIKE IN THERE AND WHAT SHOULD BE

IN THERE THAT IS NOT?

SEN. WOODBURN: FIRST, IN TERMS

OF THE INVESTMENTS IN

KINDERGARTEN, HOW THAT WILL BE

TARGETED, WE ARE INTERESTED IN

THE APPROACH.

AND SOME OF THE OTHER AREAS OF

SUBSTANCE ABUSE.

LOOKING TO GO FURTHER THAN THE

GOVERNOR HAS GONE.

THE GLARING PIECE MISSING IS

MEDICAID EXPANSION, WHICH IS ONE

OF THE GREAT BIPARTISAN EFFORTS.

WE PASSED AND RENEWED IT.

IT HAS SOMETHING THAT HAS

WORKED.

50,000 PEOPLE HAVE HEALTH

INSURANCE TODAY.

10,000 PEOPLE HAVE SUBSTANCE

ABUSE SERVICES.

THIS IS CRITICAL TO PEOPE.

THEY ARE LOOKING FOR LEADERSHIP

AND FOR SOMEONE TO SAY WE HAVE A

PLAN GOING FORWARD.

IT DOES HAVE AN IMPACT ON OUR

BUDGET.

THERE IS AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF

FEDERAL MONEY THAT COMES INTO

NEW HAMPSHIRE IN ORDER TO PROP

UP OUR HOSPITALS AND PROVIDE

BETTER HEALTH CARE.

ALL KINDS OF ECONOMIC EXPENSES

SAVED THROUGH HHS AND OTHERS.

JOSH: TO PLAY DEVIL'S ADVOCATE,

WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN

TO THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AND

WHAT CHANGES WILL BE MADE.

DOES IT NOT MAKE MORE SENSE TO

LEAVE ETIQUETTE EXPANSION --

MEDICAID EXPANSION IN ITS OWN

VACUUM RATHER THAN TIE IT TO THE

BIG BUDGET?

SEN. WOODBURN: WE NEED A PLAN.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR LEADERSHIP

FROM THE GOVERNOR, TO REASSURE

PEOPLE WHO HAVE THOSE SERVICES.

I THINK IT CAN BE DONE.

I DO NOT AGREE NEW HAMPSHIRE

SHOULD WAIT AND SEE WHATEVER THE

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES AROUND

OBAMA CARE, WHICH IS OVER

100,000 PEOPLE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

ON OBAMACARE TODAY.

OTHER GOVERNORS -- CHARLIE BAKER

IN MASSACHUSETTS -- HAS BEEN

VERY ASSERTIVE, TALKING ABOUT

WHAT MASSACHUSETTS ONCE TO DO,

-- WANTS TO DO.

IT WILL EITHER BE AN EXPENSE TO

THE STATE OR AN EXPENSE FOR

SOMEONE TO RENEW IT.

IMPORTANT -- MORE IMPORTANTLY,

WE NEED A VISION, THAT THE

GOVERNOR IS BEHIND THIS PLAN.

JOSH: YOU MAKE A BIG DEAL OF THE

BUDGET PROPOSAL.

BASICALLY, WE ARE STARTING FROM

SCRATCH.

SEN. WOODBURN: ABSOLUTELY.

YOU HAVE A SITUATION IN THE

HOUSE -- THIS IS A BODY THAT

COULD NOT COME TOGETHER ON A

DRESS CODE BUT DID COME TOGETHER

ON CHANGING TIME ZONES.

SO WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY WILL DO.

I THINK YOU WILL HAVE A VERY

SPIRITED DEBATE.

I THINK IT IS A MORE

CONSERVATIVE BODY THEN IT HAS

BEEN IN PAST YEARS, THE HOUSE

AND THE SENATE.

IT WILL BE AN INTERESTING

SESSION.

I DO NOT THINK WE CAN COUNT THE

VOTES OF THE WAY WE TYPICALLY

COULD BECAUSE WE HAVE THIS

UNDERLYING, VERY STRONG,

INDEPENDENT RIGHT WING STREAK

RUNNING THROUGH THE LEGISLATURE

THESE DAYS.

JOSH: YOU BRING UP RIGHT TO

WORK.

YOU ARE OPPOSED TO IT.

BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THIS COMING

WEEK, IT WILL BE THE ISSUE OF

THE WEEK.

I IMAGINE THERE WILL BE HUGE

PRESENCE IN OPPOSITION TO IT

FROM ORGANIZED LABOR.

HOW DO YOU SEE THIS PLAYING OUT

IN THE HOUSE?

I AM ASKING YOU TO ANALYZE IT

FROM YOUR PERCH.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

SEN. WOODBUR I THINK THERE IS

A LOT OF POLITICS GOING ON ON

THE REPUBLICAN SIDE ON WHO TO

BLAME WHEN AND IF IT GOES DOWN.

I THINK IT WILL BE VERY CLOSE.

I THINK WHEN A GOVERNOR DRAWS A

LINE IN THE SAND AND SAYS I WANT

THIS DONE AND START TWISTING

ARMS, THE GOVERNOR HAS TO WIN.

THIS IS A TEST FOR THE GOVERNOR.

AS A DEMOCRATIC LEADER WHO WANTS

TO WORK WITH HIM ON MEDICAID

EXPANSION, FAMILY LEAVE, OTHER

FAMILY-FRIENDLY, POSITIVE,

PROGRESSIVE IDEAS, IF HE USES

HIS POLITICAL CAPITAL AND LOSES

POWER IN THE LEGISLATIVE RANCH

TO GET THINGS DONE, IT MAKES

WORKING TOGETHER IN BRINGING

REPUBLICANS ALONG DIFFICULT.

JOSH: WHILE THERE ARE

DIFFERENCES, AT LEAST WE CAN

Macaroni Penguin Facts for Kids Penguins 101 #penguin - Duration: 8:35.

Macaroni Penguins have it...and they flaunt it.

They are blessed with several flashy features that make them stand out amongst other species

of penguins.

These features include a bright yellow-orange crest that resembles a pair of bushy eyebrows,

red eyes, a thick dark orange beak with a fleshy patch of pink skin on each side and

large pink feet.

But don't let their good looks fool you, when it comes to defending their territory, Macaroni

males are very agressive and won't shy away from a fight.

Hi, welcome to Animal Facts.

Today, we discuss the crested creature that looks like a lover but is really a fighter,

the Macaroni Penguin.

Let's get ready to rumble!

Wait, before we get started take a moment to subscribe to get more fun fauna facts,

and click the bell icon to make sure you don't miss a single fact.

10.

The habitat of the macaroni penguin ranges from the Subantarctic Peninsula including

southern Chile, the South Orkney Islands, South Sandwich Islands, South Georgia and

the Falklands, to the Antarctic Peninsula, including mainland Antarctica, South Shetland,

Heard, McDonald, Crozet, Prince Edward, Marion, Bouve and Kerguelen.

When it's time to forage for food, they prefer to "eat out" traveling north to the islands

near Australia, southern Brazil, New Zealand and South Africa.

9.

The macaroni population is estimated to be about 18 million, the largest of any species

of penguin.

That said, the population is believed to have decreased by at least 30 percent in the last

30 years.

This decline has resulted in the species being classified as "vulnerable" on the International

Union for the Conservation of Nature's List of Threatened Species.

Some factors that are thought to contribute to the decrease include interaction with fisheries,

marine pollution and reductions in their food supply caused by climate change and commercial

fishing.

Conservation efforts have been implemented in several breeding colonies and many of the

islands that are home to breeding populations have been classified as protected reserves.

8.

Who says there aren't any good men out there?

Not female macaroni penguins!

There are more males than females, and the excess of males enables the females to begin

breeding at an earlier age, and gives them the luxury of choosing a "more experienced"

mate.

Females typically begin to breed at five years old, while males tend to reach maturity at

six years of age.

The male performs an elaborate courtship dance that begins with a bow and throbbing noises.

Next, it raises its head and stretches its neck and beak up until they are fully extended.

Finally, it brays loudly and moves its head from side to side.

Macaroni penguin pairs prove to be very faithful.

About 75% of them will breed together the next year, a statistic that puts marriages

amongst humans to shame.

Mating season begins in October, and ends in November when it is time to lay eggs.

After breeding season, they scatter into the oceans for the next six months.

7.

Normally, a macaroni mom will lay two eggs, the first of which is very small and highly

unlikely to survive.

The incubation period is five weeks, split into three 12 day sessions.

During the first session, both parents share sitting duties.

In the second, the male then returns to sea for food, and the female tends the egg alone.

Then in the third, the male returns and the female ships out and doesn't come back until

the chick is hatched.

When it comes to chick rearing, the male macaroni is a stay-at-home dad, caring for its offspring

for about 25 days after hatching.

The chick depends on its father for warmth and protection, while the female gathers food

for it.

Once the adult male has fulfilled his fatherly duties, the chick becomes part of a crèche,

which is a colony made up of chicks grouped together to stay warm and protected.

At about 60 days old, the chick gets its adult feathers and is ready to navigate the sea

on its own.

6.

Currently, the home of largest breeding population of macaronis are the Crozet Islands which

are home base to approximately 2.2 million amorous penguin couples, followed by Kerguelen

with 1.8 million pairs, Heard and South Georgia Islands with 1 million pairs each and Marion

Island with 290,000 pairs.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Patagonian shelf region hosts about 25,000 couples and

the Falkland Islands population is comprised of about 500 couples.

The remainder of the macaroni populace is divided amongst at least 12 colonies in Chile,

the largest being Diego Ramirez with an estimated 15,600 pairs.

Man, that's a LOT of lovebirds!

5.

The species name of the macaroni penguin is Eudyptes Chrysolophus which is a combination

of the genus name made up of the Ancient Greek words eu "good," and dyptes "diver"

and the specific epithet chrysolophus made up of the words chryse "golden," and lophos

"crest."

But I'll bet you're wondering where it got its common name of macaroni?

Well, it was coined in the early 19th century by English sailors who likened the penguin's

bright yellow-orange crest to the 18th-century fashion trend called maccaronism.

Maccaronists were men who dressed flamboyantly and adorned themselves with tall wigs, jewelry

and other accessories.

If you've ever sung "Yankee Doodle" you have paid homage to the maccaronist in

all his glory!

4.

Since they live in colonies, macaroni penguins display a wide variety of social behaviors

which peak during breeding season and drop sharply when the males go back to sea.

To protect their territory Macaroni penguins "go medieval."

They engage in "bill jousting," locking their bills and wrestling until one of them

overtakes the other.

They also use their flippers to strike each other and peck the nape of their opponent's

neck.

The "slender walk" is a submissive behavior in which the bird flattens its feathers, places

its flippers in front of itself and hunches its head and neck while moving through the

colony.

The penguins also assume this posture when incubating or tending the nest.

3.

Everyone knows that penguins are the snappiest dressers in the animal kingdom.

The macaroni penguin keeps its black and white coat fresh by molting once a year.

Molting is a four-week process by which new feathers push older feathers out resulting

in a healthy, shiny coat.

During molting, penguins avoid the water, so instead of foraging the sea for food, they

live off fat stores in their bodies.

To keep the feathers protected from the elements, the birds must "get oiled up" or preen.

Preening is a process by which they use their bills to get oil from a gland adjacent to

the tail.

They then spread the oil all over their bodies, conditioning and insulating them from the

salty water and frigid climate.

2.

Macaroni penguins eat more marine life than any other seabird, with a diet mainly consisting

of small fish and crustaceans like krill, shrimp and crabs.

They also consume a large number of cephalopods such as squid, octopi, and cuttlefish.

It is estimated that they devour 9.2 million tons of krill per year and average 4 to 16

krill or 40 to 50 small crustaceans per catch.

When they have chicks to feed, they forage all day, every day.

As the chicks mature, overnight tips become more frequent.

During the winter migration, macaronis dive deeper, more efficiently, and for longer stretches

of time than in the summer breeding season.

These foraging expeditions primarily occur during daylight hours, making winter dives

more difficult due to shorter days.

The penguins sometimes make night dives, but these dives are peak at much shallower depths.

1.

Scientists have found DNA evidence suggesting that the macaroni penguin is closely related

to the royal penguin.

It is believed to have branched off from the royal, forming a new species about 1.5 million

years ago.

Though they are widely considered to be separate species, some ornithologists consider the

royal to be a subspecies of the macaroni based on the similarities in their DNA sequences.

The two species are nearly spitting images of each other, except the royal penguin has

a white face and the macaroni has a black one.

Macaroni penguins have also been known to interbreed with a subspecies called the southern

rockhopper.

In 1987, an Australian Antarctic Research Expedition discovered three hybrids on Heard

and Marion Islands.

Benefits of milk | You Have Been Drinking Milk All Your Life And You Didn't Know | Milk nutrition - Duration: 1:41.

Apparently, even though we were told that the animal milk is a rich source of calcium,

apparently, it is not good for our health.

Namely, the human body cannot absorb the calcium well from the milk as it does from the plants.

Moreover, milk also raises the risk of other health issues, such as:

1.

Cholesterol,

Unlike vegan foods, which are cholesterol-free, one milk serving has 24 mg of cholesterol.

2.

Lactose intolerance,

Cow's milk has sugar known as lactose, which might be hard to digest and leads to nausea,

diarrhea, cramps, and bloating.

3.

Broken bones,

A Swedish medical study has shown that women who consume much dairy milk are more susceptible

to fractures than those who drank less or no milk.

4.

Prostate cancer,

Studies have shown that the consumption of milk and other dairy products raise the risk

of prostate cancer, and diets which are milk-free slow down its progress.
