WWE champion Ivan Koloff the man who beat Bruno Sammartino dies at 74 - Duration: 2:23.

WWE champion Ivan Koloff, the man who beat Bruno Sammartino, dies at 74

Most famous for ending Sammartino's first title reign, Koloff was a marquee villain

Former WWE champion Ivan Koloff has died following a battle with liver cancer. He was 74. . Known as "The Russian Bear," Koloff (Oreal Perras) was one of the top main-event villains in pro wrestling throughout the 1970 and 1980s.

He won arguably the most famous match of the 1970s, pinning the popular WWWF world champion Bruno Sammartino in Madison Square Garden to win the title before a stunned capacity crowd on Jan.

Koloff lost the title to Pedro Morales three weeks later.

While Koloff remained a main-event star, he was so legitimately despised by fans that his hasty departure from the WWWF in March of 1971 was reportedly out of safety fears due to irate fans.

Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Koloff debuted in 1961, settling on the Irish character of "Red McNulty" early on.

He began performing as Russian villain Koloff in 1967 and spent the next three decades wrestling all over the world as a top heel.

In the 1980s, Koloff played a key role in the NWA Mid-Atlantic territory, which was run by promoter Jim Crockett and would eventually become World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

In the mid-80s, he teamed with "nephew" Nikita Koloff (Scott Simpson) and Krusher Khruschev (Barry Darsow, the future Demolition Smash) as a three-man Russian team that feuded memorably with the Road Warriors and the Rock 'n' Roll Express.

Britney Spears biopic star says the Lifetime movie is a feminist story at its core - Duration: 5:31.

Britney Spears biopic star says the Lifetime movie is 'a feminist story at its core'

Britney Spears, our omnipresent pop idol, had one of the biggest selling singles of all time, "…Baby One More Time." Her debut album, which was released in 1999, was one of the best-selling ever by a teenage artist.

The one time Mickey Mouse Club ingénue went red leather raunchy for the Oops.

I Did It Again music video and then donned a bedazzled nude bodysuit for Toxic. She was also one half of an early 00s pop power couple with then-*NSYNC member Justin Timberlake.

Then in 2007, almost 10 years ago to the day, Spears shaved her own head in a California salon, leading many to wonder if the pop princess was headed for a major nervous breakdown.

All of these moments –- and many more -- have been recreated in Britney Ever After, the unauthorized Lifetime biopic, airing Saturday night.

[She was] a prisoner of celebrity, said director Leslie Libman. She can't go anywhere, she can't do anything. it's like living in a glass box..

Natasha Bassett, a 24-year-old Australian actress, plays Spears and said the movie is not meant to trash the pop star.

This [movie] is a love letter to Britney, she said. I think she got into something at a very young age that almost cannibalized her..

In real life, Spears seems to have stability, with a performing residency in Las Vegas and she often post photos on social media of her home life with her two sons.

In response to the biopic, a Spears spokesperson told ABC News in a statement that Britney will not be contributing to the project in any way, shape or form nor does it have her blessing..

The fact that the biopic is unauthorized didn't bother Libman.

I didn't find it as challenging because I didn't have to stay true to exactly what was going on. It was impressionistic, she said. An impressionistic telling of a story that everyone knows..

In the pantheon of stars given the Lifetime TV movie treatment, which have included Whitney Houston, Anna Nicole Smith, Marilyn Monroe, Aaliyah, Brittany Murphy, most are deceased. Spears is obviously not.

It's always difficult to play someone who's still with us and can view the work you're doing, Bassett said. You just want to do them justice.. Being from Australia, Bassett said she watched Spears old interviews to master her Louisiana accent.

I just played her interviews all the time, she said. If it was a darker time in her life, I would be crying every time I watched an interview..

Bassett admits that she had her doubts at first about taking the part.

But it was when I read the script I decided, No, I have to do this film, I want to tell this story, she said. Because it's a showing of strength and I think it's a feminist story at its core..

Amey Rene, the casting director for the movie, said Bassett was unique. So our idea wasnt necessarily to find someone who was a carbon copy of her, it was to find an actor who could embody her essence, Rene said.

The movie centers on Spears relationship with Justin Timberlake -- the couple dated from 1999 to 2002.

Its young love, its like star-crossed lovers. You know, Romeo and Juliet, said Nathan Keyes, 31, who plays Timberlake. Its a story we can all relate to..

It also touches on the highs and lows of Spears career. One of the most memorable real-life lows was Spears' disastrous 2007 VMAs performance, which was supposed to be her comeback performance after two children and two marriages.

But the Britney Ever After director said she had no desire to recreate that moment..

There's no way I could, Libman said. I decided that it really was a feeling. And if we could get, have it more visceral and we could feel what she's feeling then it would be interesting..

One of things that might surprise viewers is the biopic didn't get permission to use Spears' tracks for her music, just the rights to the songs she performed, so they have actors singing covers.

It's more about who Britney Spears is as a human being, not just a performer, Bassett said.

There have already been mixed reviews of the movie, with some love from the Internet and plenty of hate. But the actors and the movies director say they arent fazed.

Libman thinks Spears is going to love it. Bassett added that she hopes Spears watches. I hear she's a fan of Lifetime, she said.

Norma McCorvey Roe Of Landmark Roe V Wade Ruling On Abortion Dies At 69 - Duration: 4:35.

Norma McCorvey, Roe Of Landmark 'Roe V. Wade' Ruling On Abortion, Dies At 69

Many only know Norma McCorvey by a name thats not hers. Under the pseudonym Jane Roe, McCorvey became the central figure of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion in the U.S.

But in the decades that followed, the complex woman came to serve as a champion at times for both sides of the deep divide over abortion rights.

McCorvey died Saturday of heart failure at the age of 69, according to her daughter Melissa, and Joshua Prager, a journalist who is writing a book about the court case, says McCorvey died in Katy, Texas. How McCorvey became Roe.

It was her third pregnancy — after Melissa, her eldest, and another child McCorvey gave up for adoption — that brought McCorvey to the attention of the lawyers who would eventually take up her case.

The 22-year-old McCorvey, who was then unmarried, had been seeking an abortion but could not find a doctor in Texas who would perform the procedure, which was then illegal except when the life of the mother was endangered.

Attorneys Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee took up McCorveys case, and in 1970, they filed the lawsuit that — after several twists and turns — would ultimately wind up at the Supreme Court.

By the time the ruling was finally passed down in 1973, however, McCorvey had already carried her pregnancy to term, and had given the child up for adoption.

Though Roe v. Wade may not have changed McCorveys particular circumstances, the landmark Supreme Court ruling had a massive effect on the cultural and political landscape of the United States.

The 7-2 decision, which legalized abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy, may not have started the long-simmering dispute over the procedure, but it came to be its central flashpoint in the decades that followed. McCorvey after the decision.

As Julie Rovner reported for NPR in 2013 — the decisions 40th anniversary — opinions on the ruling remained as deeply entrenched as the year it was handed down.

Over the past two decades, opinion on whether or not Roe should be overturned has barely changed, Rovner reported at the time, citing a Pew Research Center poll.

In 1992, 60 percent of those asked said the court should not overturn the ruling. Today thats up to 63 percent..

The case had no less of an impact later on McCorvey, who was still just 25 when it ended. She maintained her anonymity for more than a decade, until setting it aside in the 1980s.

At that point, she remained a staunch defender of abortion rights, working for a time at a Dallas womens clinic where abortions were performed, according to The Associated Press.

Yet in the mid-1990s, after the publication of her first memoir, McCorvey underwent a dramatic conversion — announcing that she had become a born-again Christian.

Whats more, she went to work for the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, from which position she then championed against the abortion rights granted by the case that bears her pseudonym.

Ill be serving the Lord and helping women save their babies. I will hold a pro-life position for the rest of my life, McCorvey once said, explaining her conversion. I think Ive always been pro-life. I just didnt know it..

In an interview with Fresh Air in the 90s, McCorvey looked back on her experience as Jane Roe. I feel like a role model in one sense of the word, McCorvey said.

But when people really stop and really sit down and think about Jane Roe or Norma McCorvey, I feel like any woman whos ever been denied anything in her whole life is a Jane Roe.

Because no woman should have to suffer all the pain and humiliations and indignities that Ive had to face..
