My Neighbor, Charles | 이웃집 찰스 - Ep.95 [ENG/2017.01.20] - Duration: 46:59.

(The hot place for designs)

(Korea's landmark DDP)

(Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Jung-gu, Seoul)

(95th class at the foreigner school)

This is My Neighbor, Charles

where we meet foreigners living in Korea.

- Hello. / - Hello.

It's the new year. We are in 2017.

- Happy New Year. / - It's the first show of the year.

Did you make a wish?

Yes, since I'm concerned about my country,

I wished for peace in Korea.

In the new year, I hope that people will no longer

need to go out with candles in their hand.

That would be lovely.

Whenever a new year begins,

I set a new goal.

- What is it? / - My goal is to learn Chinese this year.

Our first guest of the new year is someone

who is very touching.

She has watched every episode of

My Neighbor, Charles.

- Who is this person / - Who is she?

That loves My Neighbor, Charles this much.

Let's invite her in.

- Please come in. / - Please come in.

(Curious)

- Hello. / - Hello.

It's nice to meet you.

The two of you are so adorable!

- A cute couple. / - You resemble each other.

- You resemble each other. / - Yes, you do.

My name is Erica Han.

I'm from the Philippines.

It's nice to meet you.

- It's nice to meet you. / - Nice to meet you.

Hello, I also came from the Philippines.

I'm Erica's husband, Han Jiun.

- It's nice to meet you. / - Did you say the Philippines?

Yes, I lived in the Philippines for almost five years.

You said that you had watched all the episodes.

- This is our 95th episode. / - That's true.

Did you watch all the shows in the Philippines?

Yes.

I watched the show online and

we also have a KBS World channel in the Philippines.

So I know Fabien and the hosts,

as well as Seokcheon. I really like Seokcheon.

Me?

You're so funny and I really like your character.

What do you like about our show?

Because I can relate...

We were planning to move here,

so it helped me to prepare myself.

It is helpful for those people

who want to move to Korea.

How long have you been in Korea?

It's been 6 months.

In only 6 months, she's made it onto our show.

Could you tell us about how the two of you first met?

I was a student as well as

a manager at a language institute.

She was best friends with one of the teachers there.

Our relationship developed from there.

We got married in the Philippines.

How did you end up coming to Korea?

My husband needed to work in Korea.

I just followed him here because I love him.

It was very difficult for me bring this issue up.

I warned her that it will be difficult for her in Korea.

I asked whether she was okay with this.

She told me it was okay. She said I'm her dream.

It's okay. I'm going to be by his side.

Her husband is her dream.

Erica decided to come to Korea.

She came to Korea believing in her husband.

- It's really cold. / - Very cold.

She can't speak Korean.

I'm curious to know how they are living in Korea.

Shall we take a look?

(My Neighbor, Charles)

(New employee, Erica)

(Erica's newlywed home, Gangdong, Seoul)

Erica is busy getting ready for work.

(Getting ready for work as soon as she gets up)

She needs to hurry if she wants to get to work on time

which is an hour and a half away.

(Does it look pretty?)

Meanwhile, Jiun looks like he is preparing breakfast.

(Struggling)

Jiun, why are you struggling to open that?

(Won't open no matter what)

Can you open it?

Why can't you open this?

Wow! It's done.

It's so easy, right?

Goodness.

I feel bad for you.

You're a man. My goodness.

Goodness me.

Still, he makes breakfast

so she doesn't go to work on an empty stomach.

Erica is busy putting on her makeup.

She looks a little uncomfortable.

Actually, this is broken.

I haven't bought a new mirror.

I want a nice makeup table.

I don't like this.

Every morning, they go to work together.

Jiun even carries her bag,

worried that her hands might get cold.

Oh, my gosh.

Let's try the next one.

She is still not used to the packed subways.

It is like this every day.

There are a lot of people every day.

You have to prepare yourself for a battle.

She's been working for two months.

It is something she has to face every day

but it's still sad when they have to

part for work every morning.

(It's time to say good-bye)

Good-bye.

Bye.

- Good luck. / - Good luck.

Excuse me, people might think that

he's leaving for somewhere far away.

Erica, are you studying right now?

If I'm bored, I read.

Like vocabularies.

She made the vocabulary book herself.

After riding on the train for an hour and a half,

she arrives at her company which is located in

Gasan Digital Complex.

Good morning.

At first glance, this looks like any other company.

But the employees are from all over the globe.

Hold on.

What are these two doing instead of working?

(Are they going to sing during work hours?)

Goodness, is she really going to sing in the office?

Not only that, she's also making a video call.

- What is going on here? / - You're good.

(What is going on here?)

They're singing during work hours

but no one is telling them off.

Is this a karaoke machine company?

No, I'm promoting with the prize.

This is the USIM number.

If you have this, you can plug this in

and talk on your cell phone.

You can use this in your home country

and it also works with the 3G network in Korea.

This is a prepaid phone service company

for foreigners living in Korea.

I'm so busy.

I have to check everything

to make sure everything is correct

and if it's in correct order.

It's been 2 months since Erica entered this company.

She's in charge of the clerical work.

How is the application record for company "K?"

We have 18 people who have registered.

How many do we currently have left?

How many are on the waiting list?

I didn't mean this. Hey, Jihye!

How many forms do we have in total?

And how many people have we registered?

In total, we have registered 25 people

and we have received 18.

We don't have anyone on the waiting list.

- What about "S?" / - With "S" company...

- Together... 38. / - What?

- In total. / - In total.

In total, we have 38.

I'm shaking.

After the couple got married,

they had lived together in the Philippines.

She's only been in Korea for six months,

so the language and weather is still foreign to her.

Actually, I was very scared about coming to Korea.

I didn't know if people would judge me

because of where I was from.

I don't have any regrets

because I know my husband and I can do this.

It's lunch time and everyone brings out their lunch box.

Wow! There are all sorts of dishes here.

What are you looking so closely at? Goodness.

(She's from Cambodia)

It's glutinous rice wrapped in a banana leaf.

She says it is a traditional holiday food in Cambodia.

Try this. It's really delicious.

What is it?

This is also a delicacy from Cambodia.

They must have a similar dish in the Philippines.

This is tasty.

Erica, is this the dish that you brought?

It looks similar to Korean braised potatoes.

Will it suite the Korean palate?

- How is it? / - What is that flavor?

That was mean.

(Gosh!)

When you go out,

it's hard to find food that suites our palate

since we are not Koreans.

Secondly, when we eat together,

we feel happy and it feels like we are a family.

It gets lonely when you eat alone

while thinking about your home country.

Rock, paper, scissors!

(They play the ladder game after lunch)

They are in the middle of a ladder game.

Lee Jun, you didn't get anything.

Now, it's Erica's turn.

Save me, assistant manager!

(Erica needs to go get coffee for everyone)

(At least, I don't have to pay money!)

What kind of coffee do you want?

I want iced milk tea.

I want the Korean coffee house style. Change the ice.

I want Monkey Banana coffee.

Iced?

We have two grape juice.

What is that?

Erica, you can't take a photo of this.

That's how I did it at first.

I will not fail. I can do this.

Grape juice.

Grape juice.

Will Erica remember correctly?

Hello.

Grape.

- Grape. / - Grape?

Yes.

Monkey Banana. Is that right?

Monkey Banana?

Ice-blended milk tea.

- Milk tea? / - Yes.

Make that blended.

Blended?

Blended.

Blended. Blend the ice, please.

- Oh, yes. / - Iced Monkey Banana

(She checks again)

It looks like she didn't have a problem.

Hopefully, it will be a success.

(Welcome, good job)

Here is the ice-blended milk tea for Lee Jun.

Thank you.

Here is the ice-blended one for Marina.

And then, for our director.

Go change it.

- Change it? / - Yes.

Iced milk tea.

I want the Korean coffee house style. Change the ice.

I want Monkey Banana coffee.

(Mission failed)

You failed your mission.

I'm sorry.

Erica, you tried your best.

(Is Erica stingy or smart?)

(It's her day off)

- Look at the pork belly. / - Wow.

The pork belly on the screen is tempting Jiun.

(Oh, my)

(Wow)

Let's have some.

- You want to eat pork belly? / - Of course.

Let's eat it some other time. It's expensive.

- Let's just have some. / - It's too expensive.

I'm so hungry.

It looks like they're going to eat at home.

All we have are fruits. We have only apples.

The couple end up going out for some food.

- Something catches Erica's eye. / - This is not bad.

- Let's leave it and go. / - No.

This is good.

Seriously, don't be like that.

It's not bad. We don't have this in the house.

We need this.

- It's weird. / - No.

It's all right. Help me carry it.

All right. I'll help you carry it. Let's take it.

Are you serious?

We just need to wipe it off and clean it.

We can reuse it.

My goodness.

Wow. It's really pretty, isn't it?

Maybe I can put the mirror on top?

What do you think? I can have a mini makeup table.

- Hurry. / - Hold on.

Ta-da.

(The mirror is added)

Perfect.

Oh, my gosh.

It's okay.

We also picked that up from the street.

That one as well and now we have this.

The colors don't match,

and our place is really small.

It's a sticky situation.

What's wrong? It's okay.

It's not safe.

- It could fall down. / - No, it's all right.

Don't do that.

- Let's put it there first, okay? / - Why?

- It's kind of dangerous. / - No, I don't want to.

- I just... / - No, move it later.

It wasn't stable.

It was very shaky. It looked like it would fall off easily.

If it falls forward, that would be disastrous.

She'll be putting on her makeup in front of it.

What if it falls?

No. You can put coins to stabilize it.

Right? Or you can put the legs in a cup,

so it doesn't move.

I think he should appreciate that kind of thing,

because I'm helping him save money, right?

(The couple finally leaves the house)

The couple ventures out for food once again.

Let's eat pork belly.

No, it's too expensive.

Let's just make food. I will cook.

- Let's eat here. / - No, it's too expensive.

- It's $9.99. / - No, let's just go to the market.

And buy something.

I can cook. It's so expensive. No way.

(Pork belly for $9.99, soju for $1.50)

Just as Erica wanted, they've come to the market.

Right then, something caught Jiun's eyes.

Look at the pork hocks. They look delicious.

- Do you want some? / - How much is it?

It's $18.

It's too expensive.

Erica coldly turned away.

Will she walk away again this time?

- How much is this? / - It's $2.

- Is it $5 for 3? / - Yes.

Really?

(Happy)

Can we get $3 worth of meat?

$3?

- Yes. Of pork belly. / - Pork belly.

This is $3.80.

- Do you want them cut? / - Yes.

- Isn't it too small? / - It's okay.

- It's just for the two of us. It's fine. / - Thank you.

- Thank you. / - Thank you.

Let's go.

What a frugal shopper.

We can eat for 3 days with $10 worth of groceries.

- You're right. / - Yes.

Three days!

All right.

In the Philippines, they lived an abundant life.

However, their life in Korea made a sharp turn.

In the Philippines, we had everything.

We had a swimming pool and a gym,

but we don't have that here.

Compared to the Philippines, it's really expensive here.

That's why I always try to save money.

I have to control spending for us to move

to a bigger house next year.

Are they finally going to have some pork belly?

Erica, can you cook Korean food?

I like the smell.

(Yikes!)

What is she doing?

She put in all that pork belly in the bean paste soup!

Look at the big portions.

Are you sure you didn't make too much?

It's good.

(Pork belly bean paste soup is complete)

I'll put some here.

Erica learned to make Korean food from videos.

How will it taste?

How is it?

Tell me.

- It's good. It's really delicious. / - Really?

Yes, it's really good.

(I'm such a good cook)

She's happy since he's enjoying the meal,

but it seems like he's missing something.

You're a pig, honey.

That's why you have to go on a diet.

You should only eat a little bit of pork belly.

Okay?

Are you serious? How could you say I'm a pig?

You are a little bit.

Let's go on a diet as of tomorrow.

I'm going to turn up the heat. It's cold.

Why?

You'll feel cold. It's so cold.

It's so expensive.

- What? / - You should use this one instead.

It's cheaper and it makes it hot here.

- Please. / - This is expensive. No, no.

- Just sleep. / - How do you expect me to just sleep?

This one is hot. Number three.

Yes, it will be hot. But it makes me, you know...

I will become a barbeque.

Why barbeque? You're human.

You said I'm a pig!

No, you're not. You're cute.

- You said I'm a pig earlier. / - No, I didn't.

No, you're cute.

Let's sleep.

- Sleep. / - Go to sleep.

Good night, piggy.

Good grief.

(The next day)

- I'd like to open a fixed deposit account. / - Okay.

Can I see your ID card?

You need a family relation certificate for this.

- Family? / - Yes.

It's a form.

- I see. / - You have to bring one.

- Do I have to bring it here? / - Yes.

A family relation certificate.

Where can I get it?

There's an office near Gasan Digital Complex out front.

You can see it once you cross the street.

It's on the second floor.

Since it's right across the street,

it should be easy to find.

(Cross the street, then go to the second floor)

Where is it?

However, she seems confused.

It looks like she isn't clear about the direction.

(Is it this way?)

(Or that way?)

Excuse me.

- Where is the bank? / - What?

- The bank. / - The bank?

(I'm not sure)

It's in Gasan Digital Complex.

- It's in here. / - Inside?

- Yes. / - I see.

- Thank you. Have a nice day. / - Bye.

Erica, are you sure you want to go that way?

Isn't this the building you walked out of?

This is the same building.

It's the building right next to this one. Block B.

I see. Thank you.

She's become exhausted in such a short time.

Is it this one?

(She finally found it!)

At last, she found it.

It took some time,

but things seem to be going smoothly now.

Please give me a family relation certificate.

Going to a public office alone isn't an easy task.

Erica, you are amazing.

- Thank you so much. / - Good-bye.

After much difficulty,

she successfully obtained the document.

Have you decided to make the account?

Yes. It's not easy.

It's too tiring to live like this.

She's completely exhausted.

(Worn out)

- Thank you. Come again. / - Good-bye.

I'm happy. I'm happy, but tired.

(Mom, I love you)

It's the weekend and the couple has visited

a nursing home in Geochang, Gyeongsangnam-do.

Mom!

Erica, you're here. Welcome!

Hello!

How are you feeling, mom?

I'm a lot better. I eat well. I've been doing well.

(Stroking)

I think you love your daughter-in-law

more than your son.

- Of course. / - Yes.

- I'm hers. / - She's like a daughter.

I'm going to take your blood pressure.

Erica's mother-in-law is currently battling cancer.

I'm wondering if the cancer will relapse.

She's very determined right now.

She's very determined to be cured.

As you can see, she looks so much better.

Her condition has improved as well.

(Erica gives her mother-in-law a heartfelt massage)

That feels so good.

- Do you like it? / - Yes, I do.

- Did you learn how to give massages? / - Yes.

I see. Where? How?

- I learned it in college. / - I see.

Erica had graduated from

a nursing college in the Philippines.

With her background in nursing, she's been

taking care of her mother-in-law like a real daughter.

Welcome.

This is my son and my daughter-in-law.

She cuts it vertically.

Erica, you have a unique way of peeling apples.

She peels the apples differently

to the way we do it in Korea.

It doesn't matter how you peel it

as long as it's delicious.

There are some who see foreign

daughters-in-law in a negative light.

Don't you care about that?

Many Korean women around my mother's age

often think that way.

However, aside from nationality,

I believe all people are the same.

She graduated college with a nursing degree.

She gives me really good massages.

You have such a good daughter-in-law.

What does that mean?

It means you're a good daughter-in-law.

I feel bad about it.

I want to talk to her about a lot of things,

like the things she wants to do with us.

If only I could speak better Korean,

I would cheer her up.

However, I can't. It's hard for me to

express my feelings to cheer her up.

(A hard day's work)

- Erica! / - Yes?

Can you come here?

What is it?

Applications 1 to 10 are missing.

Why are there only five?

You didn't get it this morning?

You didn't give it to me. You just gave me these.

You should have given me 1 to 15.

I will find it.

Then, I'll come here and give them to you.

I don't know English. Speak Korean.

I can't speak Korean.

Where is the assistant manager?

Find the assistant manager.

I couldn't understand what she said.

The assistant manager is in a meeting right now.

(I want to cry)

She gave me applications 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

She didn't give me applications 1 to 10.

I asked her and I don't know what she said.

Erica, you didn't give her applications 1 to 10.

She got 11 to 15.

That's why I told her she has to wait,

because I may have mixed the papers with others.

You have to wait.

Erica will look and bring them to you.

I'm sorry.

- Okay. / - Please wait.

I feel very down.

I feel I'm stupid.

I feel like...

"Why am I here?"

I shouldn't be here because

I can't communicate well in Korean.

You've done great job today.

Since it's the end of the year,

let's have a drink and go home.

(It's the year-end party!)

Today is Erica's first year-end party in Korea.

Cheers!

Is this Korean style?

You don't mix the drinks?

You'll end up wasted.

I'll show you. Watch this.

(Erica's senior begins making boilermaker)

(Beer, soju and coke are mixed)

- Bottoms up! / - No!

(Everyone raises their glass for Erica, the newbie)

Erica, are you okay?

- How is it? / - It's nice.

(They begin to share their stories of hardship)

Sometimes, on the bus or on the subway,

people don't sit next to me.

Even when I tell them, "Sit here. It's empty here."

They still don't sit.

Some Koreans in your neighborhood,

look at you strangely or talk to you rudely...

I've experienced that.

How?

I was on my way to work and someone said,

"You're weird."

How did you feel when that happened?

I felt so down.

They are looking at you with disrespect.

I said, "Why? I'm also human.

Koreans are human, right?"

Why do they have to do that?

Korean people view Southeast Asians differently.

They don't think or care about

why they came to live in Korea.

They just think that because we're Southeast Asians,

we came to work here.

That's how people are.

Right?

Go team! Stay strong!

(That night)

- Jiun. / - Yes?

Let's study together.

Study what?

You want to write it down?

Something easy?

"Something easy?"

No, I'm asking if you want something easy.

You mean, "feels good?"

No, easy. Something easy.

An easy question? Okay, good.

Pork belly.

(I know because you love it!)

Spicy rice cakes.

Spicy rice cakes?

Rice rolls. Shrimp.

They are all food. Are you hungry?

Kimchi.

- What's this? / - It's a double "C."

- Is it "C?" / - It's a double "C."

Pork belly.

- Spicy rice cakes. / - Dobokki?

Why?

It's "dobokki." Goodness.

It's okay. It's the same. "Dobokki."

- You got 6 out of 10. / - Is it a pass?

- Yes. / Yay!

How many times have I taught you this?

How many times did I tell you?

I forgot. I pass, right?

I made four mistakes. Yes!

You're still a stone head.

- What's that again? / - It's stone head.

- Does stone head mean smart? / - Yes.

- I'm a stone head. / - That's right.

That's why you're a stone head, too.

No, not me. You.

- Why not? / - You are very smart.

- You are very smart. / - No, no.

(I want to become a teacher)

Erica is searching for a job on the internet.

She's looking for a weekend job.

See here?

They're looking for a native English speaker.

I believe that you guys are looking for a teacher, right?

- Yes, that's right. / - I'm a Filipina.

Is that okay?

I can work for you. I also have a TESOL certificate.

I also have experience teaching.

Would it be possible for me to work at your academy?

Yes, we are looking for native speakers right now.

But we will keep your resume.

She didn't even get a chance to do an interview.

They want a native speaker.

Even though she has experience in teaching

and has a TESOL certificate,

no one is willing to hire her.

I think I've handed out more than 100 resumes.

I didn't get any calls from some of the companies.

Some of the other companies did give me a reply, but

the first thing they ask is, "What is your nationality?"

When I say I'm Filipino,

they say, "Sorry, it's impossible."

She finally got a call from one of the places.

- Are you nervous? / - Yes.

It's okay. Good luck.

She has to hold a demonstration lecture with the kids.

We're going to meet our new teacher now.

I think she is over there. Can everyone say hi?

Hello. Hello, everyone.

I love you.

I love you, too.

Now, it's time for the interview.

Erica, I'm sure you'll do well! Good luck.

This is the TESOL certificate.

What is this about?

It's a COE from the previous school that I taught at.

- Was it in the Philippines or in Korea? / - Yes.

It was in the Philippines, but the students were

Chinese, Koreans and Japanese.

Oh, I got you.

You have excellent grades

and you have a lot of experience.

You're very good at teaching the children, too.

The way you look at the children is also very good.

However, if you watch TV,

an announcer wouldn't come on and

With that being the goal,

I don't think it would be easy for us to hire you.

I felt so down, really down.

In the Philippines, when you go there,

everyone can speak English.

And I studied. But then they still

don't like a Filipino teacher.

They want someone with a North American accent.

(A few days later)

Jiun got home earlier than Erica.

It seems like he is going to watch TV.

The drawer they got last time is still shaky.

It looks like it needs some work done.

Jiun, why are you taking it outside?

Are you just going to throw it away?

(Thrown out)

Erica comes back home a few moments later.

She spots the drawer.

Why is this out here?

It looks like Erica has been hurt by this.

Are you back?

Jiun, why did you throw that out?

I touched it before while I was watching TV.

I was trying to watch TV

and I pushed down on the table.

And the table started to shake.

Why didn't you fix it? We already talked about this.

I told you that we needed to use it for a while

because I needed to put my makeup in there.

That's what I put it in here.

You know, the mirror was there, right?

The mirror could fall down.

You could have just removed the mirror.

What if the mirror falls down?

And if it falls in front of you, you can get hurt.

I don't think so. We already talked about this.

You shouldn't have thrown it away.

(Sighing)

- It can fall down. / - You always...

Why didn't you text me first?

Why did you decide before asking?

Things don't look too good between them.

He decided without asking me about it.

I saw that as I was walking back home.

I saw it in the garbage near the stairs.

When I saw that I went, "What is he thinking?"

It's our house. He shouldn't have decided

just for his own sake.

I need to know. I needed to know as well.

(Don't get sick)

(A few days later)

Erica doesn't seem to be able to get out of bed.

She looks very sick.

- My voice is gone. / - Don't talk.

Seeing his wife suffer,

he wishes that he could get sick instead of her.

In the end, he takes Erica to a hospital.

(She doesn't seem to be in a good state)

Jiun, is Erica very sick?

It's not a regular cold.

It's influenza A.

She got an X-ray of her face and lungs.

They think that she developed some complications.

She must have collapsed

due to severe cold and unfamiliar environment.

It hurt me so much.

I felt so bad.

Yes, I felt very bad.

Fortunately, Erica's condition

got a lot better a few days later.

Do you have foot powder?

I do. How many do you need?

My husband's feet smell.

That's why I bought foot powder.

Thank you.

The couple is enjoying their date at the Filipino market.

This looks good.

- Is it good? / - Yes, it's very tasty.

How many years has it been since you had this?

Five months.

Her grandmother cooked this a lot for her.

This brings back memories of my family.

I miss my mom.

She says this is her first time being so far away

from her family for this long.

Jiun, what are you carrying?

(Rustling)

(What is that?)

Is that a makeup table?

- Ta-da. / - Wow.

It's nice. It's so nice.

- Ta-da. / - Wow.

It even has a mirror.

Erica, do you like it?

I like it.

Do you remember that rickety drawer?

She's putting on makeup on her new makeup table.

It's lovely. It really is.

Jiun, what are you doing now?

(Another surprise to touch her heart)

What is this?

I miss you. I love you.

Jiun, when did you prepare all of this?

It is very touching.

Have you eaten?

I love you very much.

Seeing your husband trying so hard...

I'm very happy and not sad.

It is good to see you. I'm very happy.

So, thank you very much.

Thank you.

- Don't cry. / - How did you do this?

- It's a secret. / - Is it a secret?

Thank you.

I hope the two of you continue to be happy.

(My Neighbor, Charles)

I want to say that Jiun

brought back a good luck charm from the Philippines.

- Yes, he did. / - That's how I'd like to phrase it.

If she's only been in Korea six months,

it'd still be hard for her to find her way around.

She's a child, but to have already found a job is

very impressive.

I've submitted over 100 resumes.

I would check for a new job posting every minute.

I kept browsing to see if any new job posting came up

so I could apply immediately.

- Wow. / - You really did try hard.

Jiun, she must be really reliable. Your face says it all.

"My wife is amazing. I don't have to worry at all."

Yes, she's a reliable person.

People like her are smart and earn a lot of money.

You've married a very wonderful woman.

I'm sure even though she's very smart and frugal,

Erica also has a lot of concerns as well. Right?

Shall we take a look?

(Living in Korea is very expensive)

"Living in Korea is very expensive."

I feel the same way.

I do understand what she means.

Compared to 10 years ago,

the prices are completely different.

The cost has gone up so much.

How does it compare to Japan?

- It's similar. / - Is it?

The rent is a little bit more expensive in Japan.

The cost of food is more expensive in Korea.

- Meat. / - Meat.

- Meat is very expensive. / - Meat.

In the Philippines, the cost of a kilogram of pork

is around 300 peso.

- How much is that? / - Around $7.50.

- A kilogram of pork is only $7.50? / - Yes.

Yes, it is very cheap. But here

it is extremely expensive.

I don't like to touch it anymore.

Seokcheon, you know a lot about food.

Could you give us some tips to save costs?

I do have a tip for grocery shopping.

When you go shopping around 8 p.m.

the supermarkets have discounts.

They have a big sale.

- Right. / - If you make use of that...

You can buy a lot of food at a cheaper price.

- Winter clothes cost a lot more as well. / - Exactly.

Winter clothes are more expensive.

- Do I have to give you another tip? / - Yes.

Where are we right now? We are in Dongdaemun.

If you walk down here, the wholesale market is there.

Excuse me. Dongdaemun was cheap 10 years ago.

Now it's cheaper to buy clothes online.

If you go to a wholesale market, it is cheaper.

Go there, looking like a buyer from the Philippines.

If you go there with a carrier, speaking in Filipino...

Are you telling them to buy 100 of the same thing?

- If you ask them for a sample. / - That's a good idea.

If they ask where you're from, just say the Philippines.

- That's what you should do. / - Why move like that?

In Korea, we say this a lot.

When we go grocery shopping,

"Ma'am, please give me a discount."

You need to be able to do that. Is she good at that?

Yes, she's really good.

- "Please give me a discount." / - "Please."

- She's cute. / - She's better than Sayuri.

- I'd want to give her a discount. / - She's better.

But this is a little...

Let's say we wanted to buy a coat and it cost $100.

Then she'd say, "Please give me a $50 discount."

- That's too much. / - You're asking for too much.

- She keeps saying it is too expensive. / - But, it is.

- You must get embarrassed. / - Yes.

I get really embarrassed.

When you go to the Philippines or Thailand,

you start off the bargaining by asking for half price.

Yes, yes. It's very common in the Philippines.

"Please give me a discount."

They always ask for a discount

because they know it is part of the business.

I sometimes take home toilet papers from

the bathrooms in the TV stations.

That's stealing!

I take all the snacks in the waiting room.

That's why they started to lock the inventory rooms.

- Exactly. / - They did it because of you.

- Right. / - It was 10 years ago.

- Goodness. / - I don't do that anymore.

All right. This really touched my heart.

It was when you told Jiun

that he was your dream.

It was very sweet and lovely. And on the other hand,

Jiun would have felt a great responsibility.

My heart hurts so much.

I want to give her more.

I want to earn more money for her.

However, the reality isn't like that.

I always feel bad.

It's okay.

It's okay.

You both have hearts of gold.

You're not poor at all.

Also, you two are still very young.

In truth, there is a lot of bias

against international marriages.

Especially when you're marrying a Southeast Asian.

They give you a certain look to those couples.

heard it is very difficult to get a visa into Korea.

It took almost a year to get a visa.

When she came to Korea,

she had to take the TOPIK test.

- It's an exam to test proficiency in Korean. / - A test?

Do you have to take a test?

You have to take it in order to come to Korea.

Also, you have to study at an institute

that has been assigned.

I heard that you also have to do an interview

at the embassy.

It's a very hard interview that

makes you feel very depressed.

When they asked me,

"You got married to get out of the Philippines, right?"

- They asked you directly? / - They asked that?

- I think that is too harsh. / - I asked...

"Excuse me? Could you say it again?

I married my husband because I love him.

You can't say that

because I finished my school in the Philippines.

And we don't have that kind of relationship."

It happens from time to time.

When we're walking,

people do come up to us as we talk in English.

They ask where she is from.

When she says, "The Philippines."

They just leave.

We're bewildered when that happens.

We were having such a nice conversation.

But they just say, "I see." And then leave.

In truth, when Koreans went abroad,

we also used to be treated like that.

We need to think more carefully about our actions.

Just pay attention to those who are nice to you.

That's enough.

You will be happier.

They are our first guests of 2017.

Tell us about your New Year's wish.

Let's listen to your wish.

My New Year's resolution is

to move to a bigger house with my husband.

And I hope people will be kinder to everyone

whether you're Asian or European.

I just wish the best for everyone.

I feel really bad to her for giving up the good life

to come to Korea.

But we can also have better future

and better life in Korea.

So, let's work together and try to make it happen.

Let's try our best.

I'm sure something special will happen

to our first guests of My Neighbor, Charles.

I have no doubt.

Thank you for coming on as the first guests of the year.

- Thank you. / - Thank you.

We'll end the class here.

- Happy New Year, everyone. / - Happy New Year!

Good-bye.

So enchanted Why does everything you do

Feel like magic

Oh, won't you rain down on me? Then I'll watch you go

Oooh, you're a miracle You got me so bad

And you know I'm happy with you

You keep a man glad Cause I know I'm happy with you

So how you living?

I know the struggle's a given I keep on chasing your shadows

And your goals still ain't reach the limit

I wanna help you pave the way with your hands Cause you know I'm a fan yours

And of course, we ain't celebrate in a minute, you got me tripping

But never mind that I like where you're mind's at

I like when you smile at me *heh* Now I gotta rewind that

Whoa,Wait bring that ass back Yeah, I said it, bring that ass back

I'm on the fast track, trying to smash Get it up like I'm NASDAQ *Hah*

Lemme stop, lemme calm down I just wanna rock witchu

Wanna stop in ya hometown Maybe meet your sister

So what's up can we go now?

I've seen your art Seen your heart *heh*

And I dig it

Let me in, let me in I'll be your melody

I see you got a dream like me

I'll be a friend to the end So worry not

I see your spot I just hope you know

The grind it never stops Get get it girl

Good Times with Craig McMorris: Spencer O'Brien | CBC Sports - Duration: 3:08.

Welcome to Good Times with Craig McMorris.

I'm Craig McMorris.

We're atop Whistler/Blackcomb.

It is a beautiful, sunny day, and a beautiful day to ride the park.

To my left, Spencer O'Brien, Canada's sweetheart,

X Games gold medallist in 2016.

And to my right, Brian O'Brien,

proud father of Spencer O'Brien.

And we are going to have a great day riding the park.

I can guarantee you, ladies and gentlemen:

It's going to be a good time!

So, Brian, you have seen Spencer learn every single trick.

What trick do you want to see Spencer do on this jump right here?

I'd love to see a back one tail.

Way back in the day, we went to an event in Manning Park,

and it was the first time we

ever met Mark Sollors, and all

Spencer was doing was the sleeziest, easiest back tail.

And Sollors said "Grab tail, cheque's in the mail."

I knew the cheque was coming.

We need some cheques out here!

I'll, like, get on the chairlift with, like, someone...

you know, we'll be going up Catskinner,or we'll be

chatting, and they'll go, "Hey!

Are... are you Brian's daughter?"

I kind of got the choice to either

start ski racing or to snowboard.

And I wanted to take after my sisters, so I followed in their footsteps.

And then after he taught me and both my sisters and my mom how to snowboard,

he then taught himself.

Is that true, Brian?

Yeah, he was the last to learn.

What?!

Oh, Brian!

Massive grab from Brian O'Brien, ladies and gentlemen!

So Brian O'Brien just did a method.

And he's inspired us to do a method.

Spencer: Hopefully, we don't choke. Oh!

Craig: After you.

Craig: Had a product toss over there.

Alright, back five. What's the grab, Brian?

Indy!

Are you going to go back five indy?

Okay, I gotta see if I can remember how to do this for a second, here.

In a lot of snowboarding videos,

you'll see riders testing the rail with their snowboard or skateboard.

Just remember: it's all fake.

Nobody ever does that in real life. Ever.

Just give me a second, though.

I'm going to go out on a limb, here, and say you're

probably the only Olympian from Haida Gwaii, is that true?

Yes. I believe so.

Our tribe is Kwakwakw'wakw, and

it's pretty special to have that heritage in my life.

And it was the craziest thing for the Olympics for me.

It's such a unique thing, coming from an individual sport.

What I didn't factor in was how proud I'd be to be part of a team,

to wear my country's flag.

And to also be representing Aboriginals was really an honour.

It's such a cool time in women's snowboarding right now.

Like, the girls are riding so good, the best I've ever seen them.

And to know that when I do pass the torch, it's in super, super good hands.

Brian: Her ability to help

younger girls coming up is something that's made me incredibly proud.

That's something you don't see at the highest levels.

I'm really proud of that.

Craig: That's beautiful.

That's beautiful.

Thanks for joining us on Good Times.

That was obviously a good time with the O'Brien family.

And I'm just very appreciative I got to ride with them.

The sun's obviously setting, and it's time to get out of here.

So thanks for joining us for another amazing episode of Good Times.

Let's get out of here!

Stage Mishaps Storytime - Collaboration with Hannah and Kaitlyn - Duration: 5:48.

Hi everyone! Once upon a time, I was a theatre kid.

I would be part of a cast that would rehearse a show for about 9 months or so

and then after those 9 months, we would put it onto the stage

and it would be perfect. Or at least that was the theory anyway.

You see, it doesn't matter how hard or how long you practice a show for

or even how professional your cast is, things always go wrong.

And sometimes these stage mishaps are a little bit scary or a little bit painful

and sometimes they're really funny and years later you're still thinking about them

and thinking about the great memories you had on the stage.

So today I would like to share with you a little stage mishap

that happened to me when I was a theatre kid and I hope you enjoy.

This video is in collaboration with a couple of other YouTubers,

they are called Hannah and Kaitlin, they're two Theatre majors

and like me they have tons of stories of things going wrong on the stage.

So this week on their channel they're also going to be sharing a story

of something that went wrong so I'm going to leave a link to that video

in the description so once you've finish watching this video,

you can go and hear another story.

So do check them out, give them some love

and I can't wait to see what their story is, I haven't heard it yet,

but I absolutely love stage mishap stories so I'll be checking that out too.

My first ever big show and my first ever stage mishap

happened when I was 11 years old.

And I was in the cast of "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat",

which is quite a long title for a show so mostly we just call it "Joseph".

I was picked to be the Narrator in that show,

which, if you're not familiar with the show, is actually the female lead.

And I was very surprised to be picked for that,

firstly because I didn't think I was good enough

and secondly because I didn't remember auditioning for that part, but

I suppose it was meant to be!

The Narrator is onstage for almost the whole show,

I basically have to learn the whole show because there was only

a couple of numbers where the Narrator wasn't involved

and so since it was quite a hands-on part in the show,

it was decided that the best thing to do

would be to put the Narrator downstage right with a chair and some water

where I could kind of sit and chill when I wasn't singing or dancing.

There's a song in "Joseph" called "Close Every Door"

and if you're not familiar with the show, this basically comes about halfway through

and Joseph is basically singing about how lonely he is,

how's he's rejected by the world, it's a very sad, slow number.

And whenever it's staged, it's usually in total darkness

with just one spotlight on Joseph.

There isn't really anything for the Narrator to do during "Close Every Door",

so I was in my little Narrator hangout at the side of the stage,

but the director thought it would be cute if I went over to Joseph with a candle

to show him that there's still light in the world.

I had a candle and a box of matches by my chair

for the whole of the first act just for this moment.

Lighting a candle and giving it to Joseph doesn't really seem like a big deal,

deal but to my 11 year old self, it was a crucial moment of the show.

I was going to show Joseph that there was still hope.

And also, the Narrator was only really in the middle of the stage

for all the big dance numbers when everybody was on the stage,

so this was going to be a moment when all eyes were on me.

One night at the beginning of the show when I was walking to my chair,

I heard a terrifying crunch beneath one of my feet.

When I looked down, I realized I had stood on the box of matches.

And although the matches themselves were okay,

the little strip on the side of the box that you use to light the matches was totally ruined.

If Rational Kate had been around this night, she probably

would have realized that there was no way

I was going to be able to light a candle to give it to Joseph.

Unfortunately we were dealing with 11 year old Superstar Kate,

who knew that this moment was crucial to understanding the show

and it had to go ahead no matter what.

So as this number was going on,

as Joseph was sadly singing about how he was all alone in the universe,

I was downstage right frantically trying to light a fire

and the audience had no clue why.

Eventually the director, who was also conducting the orchestra,

quickly went [whispers] "Kate, Kate!"

and I had to stop, but somehow the show still managed to make sense.

It didn't make any sense to me, but

apparently people managed to figure out the story of Joseph

without this tiny little tea light.

So I hope you enjoyed that little embarrassing story,

if you do enjoy hearing stories of stage mishaps, do let me know down below

because I have so many stories from when I was a Theatre Kid

that I could be sharing and if you want to hear another story right now,

head on over to Hannah and Kaitlyn's channel

where they're also making a video of something that's happened to them.

So go check them out, give them some love

and if you have your own stories to share

put them down below so that I can enjoy them

because I love stage mishap stories.

Thanks very much for watching everybody, cheerio!

Also, for anybody who's wondering,

that production of Joseph was the first

and last time I got the lead role.

I was most commonly found in the back row

of the big chorus numbers. Thanks very much for watching everybody,

I hope you enjoyed and cheerio!

lot and today i am going to give you my

honest answer

what would it be that's a great question

and you know what my answer is the same

one I've given ever since I was a kid I

always wanted to be a talk show host I

wanted my own show and I just I just

want to do this on a much bigger scale

and talk to people and open you have a

big impact and I think that she great

that is my dream job and as far as the

money is concerned it just it just

happens to be huge

not a lot of broke the coast have you

ever thought you might be bipolar or

manic depressive what am I got no

girlfriend um you don't like as it turns

out i've actually that you doctors that

that I've had my last guy he was only

this illumination dr. all used to stay

with me when I was like thank you

hey Doc you think i might be a little

more proposals by telling there's reason

to be concerned hear anything going for

compound but you make a copy and crazy

i'm like it in all be crazy I don't know

if that's the proper word to be using at

this moment right now it's not a medical

term really but dot no you know what I

just need to I found out you know this

reminds me of my therapy and that kind

of shit

no III don't actually make the gun had

enough

that's what you said who don't qualify

really I guess I just have this I moody

and I need to be better at just figuring

out my triggers before i go into like a

full-blown haha

should i am getting better with this

with a so no I'm not even know how

figures they're not properly fucker

ah whatever is that the only book in

your library on the shelf behind you but

all the companies desserts

now that's the only book on that shelf

but i do have everybody in my closet its

actual book is it's nonfiction

it's the truth teller and I think

everyone should read it because

everybody does indeed poop

let me see here we've got to act it

would be so fun Jesus you were

attractive with libero with RL oddly

attracted to an avatar right now

yeah it would be so fun to be your

neighbor i think you know what I say it

its body i guess if you don't mind the

noise and and random sound effects they

come out of my mouth

ya know you know what my neighbors are

actually a lot of fun i love i love a

lot of them and I'm friends they're very

honest with me do and it's not over

you're watching this video so if you're

if you're the one talking about you know

who you are so there's one neighbor is

not that was very opposed to me that

enjoys having gangbangs every so often

yeah yeah talk about a Sunday Funday arm

and at the window watching all the guys

start by building a good with a

streetwalker

oh I don't know about one it tends to

get very loud so one day this was

happening and later I was a mailbox and

he came down in underwear and it's like

our Father hard to allow that your range

and I was like what could I hear you i

know the safe word doesn't come on

k cash because naw bitch if I have to

share super open and de- hotpoint all

right moving right along

what's your take on stuff that's a

little broad but the guess here we go

alright here's my take on stuff

you know and back that really is a

little nut shell of my tape on stuff

help you appreciate that you've acted

like the best seriously man who are

battling your questions people free with

grindr users not necessarily a grinder

user on the grinder stroller

occasionally you know sometimes all

flipping on me like wonder if you're gay

and you're sure are and you look nothing

like the pictures you know so much more

about more about a troller an avid user

can you go fuck yourself

I believe I can salt i believe i can

who lies down again my time on

now yeah that's great i'm going to how

you're thinking hard way to order the

way too much time and effort

oh my god I had no idea how hard it was

to go fuck yourself anyway that special

right you don't see that every day

alright guys that is often this week

Hey, babe.

How do you like your waffles?

Any way you make them, muchacho.

[speaking spanish] Good morning.

Oh, morning.

Oh, my gosh.

How nice.

Thank you.

Wow.

Daisy?

Uh huh.

You seen my tie with the pineapples?

Morning, detective.

Thought we had a schedule.

Ay.

You want some, papi?

Lost my appetite.

Come on.

Ma, what happened to the schedule?

I'm sorry, mija.

Pero, he flipped the numbers.

Oh, you did this?

This looks delicious.

Come on, papi. Just have one piece.

Come on. - I don't want it.

You all right?

Yeah, why?

Because you love waffles.

They're like a food group for you.

And you go for an apple?

I need the fiber.

Fiber?

That a problem?

Mija, please.

He's been like this for days.

I have no idea why.

He doesn't tell anybody nothing.

I kind of imagined breakfast just being the two of us.

The truck was coming right at us, right?

Bullets flying everywhere.

Luckily, had my [inaudible] on.

Brian Williams here seems to forget

that he was around the corner in the surveillance van

at the time.

OK.

Did or did I not catch the killer?

He did.

I did.

And he took a bullet to the chest like a champ.

Like a champ.

That [inaudible] just might drop.

Love it.

I'm glad you guys are bonding, but, Rosie,

where's your own date?

Oh.

She's good.

How long have you and Tina been seeing each other?

Rosie And Villa Discuss Their Magician Case | Season 2 Ep. 12 | ROSEWOOD - Duration: 1:10.

-Rosie.

Hey, I got your text.

What's up?

Why would a young man who wanted a good night's sleep

be mainlining caffeine?

He wouldn't.

Exactly.

I think Emilio went out after the party that night

and finally got himself into something

that he couldn't get out of. -Right.

OK.

Shouldn't you be talking to Annalise?

Nope!

I am tagging you in, my man.

It's time to show you where the real juice is.

Rosie, I make my reports, I hand them off.

That's how I like it.

Hey!

What if someone wasn't happy Emilio

was about to get his big break?

You think Emilio was killed by another magician?

Well, lying is what magicians do.

They spend their lives deceiving people.

Maybe a rival put him in his own trunk

to try to make it look like an accident.

Or send a message.

That still wouldn't explain the caffeine.

Mm, true.

What are you doing here?

I don't know.

Mm.

(SOFTLY) Excuse me.

ROSIE: Mm.

Sorry.

Mitchie Talks About Being A Magician | Season 2 Ep. 12 | ROSEWOOD - Duration: 1:11.

Exterior is approximately 3 and 1/2 feet wide, 2 feet deep,

height of 2 and 1/2.

[pounds trunk]

Steel frame.

Explains why it sank.

What is that boy doing?

I have no idea.

Joints are [sighs] beautiful.

Mitchie?

The MPD, they went over all of that.

Yeah, I know, I know.

I just thought I'd give it a second look

with a magician's eye.

A magician's eye?

MITCHIE: Yeah.

Yeah, I don't mean to brag, but I had my own magic act

as a kid in Pensacola.

It was actually a pretty big deal.

Oh, that's sweet.

It's very important that children have hobbies.

Oh, don't encourage him.

Well, we can rule out a magic act then,

because there's no way that Emilio could have

gotten himself into the trunk and then into the pool

all by himself.

Sometimes a trunk's just a trunk.

No.

No.

[knocks trunk] This isn't just the trunk, you guys.

It's our murder weapon.
