Triathlon Cycling Training Power "Zones" Explained - Duration: 8:30.

What's up triathletes?

Taren here.

If you've been watching the channel or really reading any sort of triathlon resource out

there online, has to be online because who actually does things in the real world without

their phone, you've almost definitely heard of triathlon training zones.

Today I'm going to explain the seven cycling power zones that you can use as it relates

to your FTP and how you can incorporate it in your training.

Stick around for it.

Now, for starters, if you don't know what FTP is, that is functional threshold power

and you need to go watch the video that I did up here where I explained how to get your

functional threshold power because that's where these power training zones start.

They all come out of the FTP.

Go and get your FTP.

In my case, I thankfully have had the generous support of PowerTap, which has given me the

PowerTap P1 Power Pedals which I use for all of my power training.

Love you guys.

You're solid.

If you've got your FTP, there are seven triathlon training zones that you can use as it relates

to that functional threshold power to guide all of your triathlon training to make sure

that you're going hard on hard days and easy on easy days.

It gives you very measurable metrics that you can use to set out basically your entire

workout, your entire triathlon training season.

Power level one is like a perceived exertion of a scale of ten of like one and two, like

you're barely out there.

This is like a Sunday stroll.

This is about as easy as it gets.

You're on the bike.

It's called active recovery.

Where this is in relation to your FTP is it is 55% of your FTP number and lower.

You rarely want to be in level one because it's so easy that it really isn't doing a

whole lot for your cardiovascular system and it certainly isn't making you stronger.

The only time that you tend to be in level one power is right at the start of a workout,

right at the end of a workout in a cool down, or in between really hard sets when you need

to recover.

Zone two is a perceived exertion level of a two or three out of then.

This is your endurance zone.

This is the zone that you can pedal at for hours and hours and hours and hours on end.

If you're going for basically just an easy ride for a bunch of hours with friends and

it's conversational pace and you're not really stressed, you don't feel at any point like

it's so hard that it's taking too much out of you, this is zone level two.

Zone level two is really, really good for training for half Ironman, full Ironman, century

rides, really long endurance races.

Where this is in relation to your FTP is it's 55% to 75% of your FTP number.

What this zone does is it improves your cardiovascular system, your endurance, your mitochondrial

connections, all those little blood vessels that have to carry oxygen to your muscles,

the slow twitch muscle fibers.

It makes your engine really efficient is what it does.

Zone level three, this is where we start to getting into a little bit more difficulty.

It is a perceived exertion level of a three or a four on a scale of ten.

Where it is in relation to your FTP number is it's about 76% to 90% of your functional

threshold power.

This is a tempo pace.

This is a pace that's going to be quite hard for you to sustain for longer than 15 or 20

minutes.

That said, this is starting to get into really good strength categories.

Categories?

Territory.

That said, this is a little bit in no man's land.

It's not doing a whole lot for your cardiovascular system, not nearly as good a job as zone two

does, and it's also not tough enough that it's very strong.

Where you use this tempo pace is in warmup periods or in the middle of a set in between

doing really easy work and really hard work.

It's kind of a transition.

That said, it's kind of like a gray zone because, like I say, it's not doing a whole lot for

your strength or a whole lot for your endurance.

Be careful with this tempo pace.

Zone level four is around 91% to 105%, that's 5% over your FTP numbers.

This is around your lactic threshold and this is a perceived exertion of anywhere between

about four or five and seven or eight.

This is starting to get really quite tough and this is very, very good for taxing your

strength.

It makes you stronger.

That said, you can't do zone level four for much longer than say three or four minutes.

We use zone level four as often to give bursts of speed and gradually increase the amount

of time that you can spend doing that.

This zone level is what makes you stronger, what makes you faster, it's damn hard so these

are the workouts that are really going to take a lot out of you and you got to recover

from.

I did a zone level four today and I'm not very pleased with my coach.

I hate him right now.

You start incorporating zone level four in the mid part of the training season, not terribly

frequently and not in huge volumes right in the middle of training season because it takes

a lot out of you.

As race season comes around, you want to back off and make your zone level four intervals

a little bit shorter, still around to remind your legs how to go fast, but it's really

good in like three, four months out of your races.

Zone five, this is around your VO2 max and this is around 106% to 120% of your functional

threshold power.

It's well over all the time your functional threshold power.

On a perceived exertion level, we're getting right up there to the sevens and eights.

This is very, very tough and we really only include the zone level fives for like a minute

or two minutes occasionally.

This is like outright strength.

This is kind of like weight lifting for your legs and your cycling muscles.

A good time to incorporate these is early, early on in the training season when you're

building a fair bit of strength and you're not so worried about beating down your muscles

because you've got a race coming up that you need to be well-recovered for.

These intervals make you strong, really strong, but they suck.

Zone six, we're talking 121% to 150% of your FTP.

Now, this is getting to perceived exertion levels of like eight and nine, like basically

as hard as you can possibly go.

We're talking like 30 to 60 seconds max.

This is your anaerobic, yes, your anaerobic capacity.

That means that this is the maximum amount of power that your muscles can put out without

failure.

Think of this as like an eight to ten rep bench press max.

Like your muscles are going to fail, your legs are going to be wobbly, it's going to

be really hard, but you're going to get a lot stronger and you're going to feel a fair

bit beat up after.

Zone level seven, this is where things get quite insane.

Zone level seven, this is just off the charts.

This is 151% and over your FTP rates.

I've actually never hit the zone seven.

Please don't tell my coach that because he will put that into a training plan starting

tomorrow if he hears about this.

This is your neuromuscular capacity.

This is the maximum amount of power with the maximum speed that your legs can possibly

go.

You can't hold it for much more than like five, six, I don't know, 15 seconds.

This is if you do group riding and you have a sprint and right at the end of that sprint,

you are absolutely emptying the tank with everything you can and you don't care how

fast your pedals are going or how hard your heart is pumping.

This is zone level seven.

You are doing everything that you can to get out as fast as you can.

You can only do it for a few seconds.

There isn't a whole lot of reason to incorporate this in the training because it's so off the

charts that it doesn't necessarily translate really well to long endurance events.

There you have it.

I hope that that explains what the zone levels are when we talk about training with power

and, "Oh my goodness, I just spent a whole bunch of work in zone four."

If you follow me on Instagram, that's happening a lot these days.

You can use this in your training to help guide where you should be because these are

zones are really good.

Go easy on your easy on your easy days and easy in your easy sets and hard on your hard

days, hard on the hard sets.

If you want a cheat sheet for how do to your FTP tests and what these zones mean, I will

put a link in the description below to triathlontaren.com where I've built a page that writes all of

this out and you can download a little cheat sheet that you can save on your phone for

how to go through this.

As always, triathletes, happy and hard training, happy and zone six training and good luck

in your next triathlon.

ARE IN DANGER AND ARE EXTREMELY THREATENED.

ABOUT 60% OF EARTH'S NON- HUMAN PRIMATE SPECIES, INCLUDING APES,

MONKEYS, GORILLAS, GIVENS AND LIBBERS.

THIS HAS TO DO WITH A LOT OF

FACTORS.

WE ARE DESTROYING THEIR HABITATS, CLIMATE CHANGE

PLAYS A ROLE, AND SO WE'VE GOT TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION.

SO, IN THE CASE OF THE HAINAN GIBBON, A SPECIES OF APE IN

CHINA, FEWER THAN 30 ANIMALS REMAIN ON THE PLANETS.

THE POPULATION OF THE GRAULERS GORILLA FELL FROM A 17,000 IN

THE MID-90S TO AROUND 3800 TODAY, MAINLY FROM HUNTING AND

22 OUT OF THE 26 PRIMATE SPECIES IN CHINA ARE ENDANGERED.

WE ARE THE VIRUS.

I AM A HUMANIST, AND PROUD OF IT, EVEN THOUGH SOME HUMANS

LIKE BILL O'REILLY ARE AGAINST ME.

GROWING UP I WOULD SEE THE POSTERS, SAVE THE WHALES, AND I

WOULD THINK, SAVE US FIRST, SO I'M A BAD GUY IN THAT SENSE, BUT

THIS IS DEEPLY CONCERNING.

WE ARE VICIOUS LITTLE CREATURES, AS MUCH AS I AM A FAN OF

MAN, AND WE WIPE OUT EVERYTHING IN OUR PATH.

SO, HEY, WE NEED TO BUILD SITE ñ WE NEED TO BUILD SKYSCRAPERS,

SORRY, YOU ALL NEED TO GO.

NEANDERTHALS, YOU ARE SLIGHTLY IN OUR WAY, WE'RE GOING TO

MURDER YOU ALL.

I'M INTERESTED IN A TASK BECAUSE I THINK IT LOOKS PRETTY,

ELEPHANTS YOU ARE SCREWED, AND ON AND ON WE GO.

EVEN IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER LIVING SPECIES ON THE

PLANET, AND WE ARE GREEDY, WHICH WE ARE BY NATURE ñ

NOT COMPLETELY, THERE IS BALANCE.

WE NEED TO FIGURE OUT THAT BALANCE BETTER, BECAUSE WE

ARE GOING TO DESTROY THE EARTH, AND THEN WE CAN'T LIVE ON IT.

WHAT I ALSO FIND REALLY INTERESTING IS, LAST YEAR THERE

WAS A LOT OF JUSTIFIED UPROAR AND CONTROVERSY REGARDING

HARAMBE, AND THAT WAS ONE ANIMAL.

AND I UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WAS UPROAR, THERE WAS A VIDEO, OR

VISUAL COMPONENT TO IT, AND THEN THERE WAS ALSO A VERY VISUAL

HUMAN COMPONENTS TO IT THAT ANGERED PEOPLE.

BUT YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE, AND WHAT IS

HAPPENING TO THIS WORLD AND ITS ECOSYSTEM, AND THE TRENDS

WE ARE EXPERIENCING.

I'M NOT TRYING TO DISCOUNT WHAT HAPPENS TO HARAMBE, BUT HARAMBE

IS ONE ANIMAL.

EVEN IF THERE IS NO REAL COMPONENT OF THIS, IT IS REALLY

VERY MUCH REAL AND SOMETHING WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT,

RIGHT NOW.

WE ARE LIKE THE DWARVES IN THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

WE CAN'T STOP DIGGING.

WE ARE GOING TO RELEASE THE BALROG, BUT WE CAN'T STOP

DIGGING BECAUSE WE NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE GOLD, SOME MORE

MATERIAL GOODS.

WE STILL ARE NOT SATISFIED, AND WE KEEP ON DIGGING.

WE HAVE GOT TO FIND SOME DEGREE OF BALANCE.

I'M NOT OVERLY LIBBING OUT HERE AND SAYING WE SHOULD LET THE

ANIMALS RUN AMOK, I'M SAYING WE GOT TO MAKE SURE WE PROTECT OUR

ENVIRONMENT, AND THE PLANET OVERALL.

IT'S OUR HOUSE, AND WE ARE RIPPING IT TO SHREDS.

Did The Sun Steal Planet Nine From Another Solar System? - Duration: 3:36.

The idea of finding a new planet is always so appealing and exciting!

But what if a rogue planet just, kinda, wandered into our Solar System?

Hey, it might have already happened!

Hey guys, space-fan Amy with you on DNews today.

Last year, astronomers at CalTech announced the discovery of a potential new planet, Planet

Nine.

We've talked about it before: it's a hypothetical planet whose existence has been theorized

by observations of distant Kuiper Belt objects.

Six of these small bodies are tracing out similarly irregular orbits around the Sun

suggesting there's some big gravitational mass tugging on them: Planet Nine.

If it exists, it's between ten times the mass of Earth and the mass of Neptune, orbits

some 1,000 Astronomical Units away, so 1,000 times further from the Sun than the Earth,

and has an inclined orbit.

The question then, is, how could a planet that big have formed that far away with such

an odd orbit?

Well, new research from a team at New Mexico State University says that it might not have

formed in our system, it might have been captured.

We might have taken in an orphaned interloper of a planet!

We tend to think of a planet as orbiting a star, but according to a previous study out

of the Osaka University in Japan, rogue planets are actually fairly common; 75 percent of

all Jupiter-mass planets might be free-floating in space!

The astronomers came to this number using a method called gravitational microlensing.

This technique involves measuring how much a massive object warps the light from a distant

star as seen from Earth.

Usually used to find a planet orbiting a distant star, astronomers found some odd instances

of microlensing in data sets.

The data was consistent with a planet passing in front of a star, but there was no signal

linking it to a host star.

Their conclusion was that these planets are free-floating rogues, wandering alone through

space.

And there were a lot of them!

This team found ten in two years, suggesting there are potentially twice as many rogue

planets as planets in solar systems in the milky way alone.

Ok.

So if this is true — remember we're in hypotheticals right now — could Planet Nine

be a captured rogue?

The team from New Mexico State carried out 156 simulations of solar system encounters

with a rogue planet hitting our system at an inclined angle and found that it's possible!

In 50 percent of the simulations, the rogue encountered the system and was simply slingshotted

out on its way.

Only occasionally — 10 percent of the time — did a rogue passing through rip another

planet out of the system with it, creating a new rogue.

But in 40 percent of encounter simulations, the rogue became part of the system.

There are a couple of ways this could happen.

With a planet the mass of Neptune — which is about 17 times the mass of Earth and within

the range Planet Nine is thought to be -- it would be a "soft capture."

The rogue would start orbiting the Sun without disrupting the solar system at all.

If the planet was more massive, say, the mass of Jupiter, which is about 318 times the mass

of Earth, the rogue would make an exchange.

It would enter our system but fling another planet out in it's stead.

An even bigger rogue three times the mass of Jupiter would have a more devastating effect.

The rogue would be massive enough to kick two or more planets out of the system.

It could even boot everyone out!

Obviously that last one didn't happen, but still.

Rogue planets are real, and it's possible that they shaped the Solar System we know

and love, and one might have joined us on its journey!

Speaking of interlopers, if NASA were to find alien interlopers, would it tell us?

I dig into the history of this question over on Vintage Space.

And there's more on Planet Nine right here.

Do you guys love or hate the idea of Planet Nine being a captured rogue?

Laser tail light for Bicycle from Aliexpress - Duration: 3:00.

Today I show the review on useful accessory for cyclists,

which can save your life - this rear lamp bike laser.

Goods AliExpress

Reviews

Hello!

You at the channel "Goods AliExpress".

The cost of the lantern - $1.60.

Came for a month.

The device has a huge number of positive reviews on Aliexpress,

so I bought without any hesitation.

The lamp came with mounting hardware that it attaches under the seat of a Bicycle.

Inside the attachment is a strip of soft ribbed plastic.

It additionally holds a lantern and protects the seatpost from scratches.

Ring diameter 32 mm.

Tighten the fastener with a screw and nut.

Headlamp connects to the mount using a special groove.

The design is kept very tight, not "walks" on the pin

and can withstand strong shaking.

The lantern is made of durable plastic and waterproof.

Powered by two batteries.

On the accessory front is red plastic, under which there are 5 LEDs - 3 in the center and 2 sides.

On the lower side are 2 connectors under the laser.

On the upper surface of the flashlight there are two buttons responsible for the torch mode.

The first button allows you to Shine the laser strips in continuous or blinking mode.

he second button is for switching lamp.

Total of 7: - constant light;

- quick flash;

- slow flash;

- slow alternation from right to left;

- slow alternation from left to right;

- rapid alternation;

- alternating back and forth.

As the main lantern and laser, are shining brightly red.

Due to this the bike can be seen from far at night or in bad weather.

The device is cheap and very functional.

Are satisfied with the purchase and feel free to recommend you this taillight with laser for the bike.

FITNESS MODEL | How To Become A Female Fitness Model | Female Fitness Motivation - Duration: 2:35.

You may wonder how to become a female fitness model.

You see lots of photos on various advertisements, demonstrating different exercises, and gracing

the covers, wishing you too could look just like that.

The fact of the matter is that learning how to become a female fitness model is not actually

all that difficult if you are willing to make a few lifestyle changes on a regular basis.

One of the easiest strategies for perfecting your diet is to divide your plate into four

different components with each meal.

One quarter of your plate is filled with a lean source of protein, one quarter is filled

with a slow digesting form of carbohydrates, and the other half of the plate is filled

with low-calorie vegetables.

Eating in this manner will ensure you are meeting your protein needs while helping to

keep total calories under control.

To add definition and tone to your body, it is vital that you are doing some form of resistance

training.

This is the exercise that will completely reshape your body, rather than just making

you a smaller version of your current self.

If you are not sure how to go about resistance training, be sure you find a proper fitness

model program to follow.

National Park Service back on Twitter after anti-Trump retweets - Duration: 2:01.

The National Park Service is up and running again on social media after it was ordered to suspend Twitter activity over retweets that appeared to criticize President Trump.

The agency tweeted an apology Saturday morning for sharing a pair of stories, both of which seemingly took aim at the new President.

"We regret the mistaken RTs from our account yesterday and look forward to continuing to share the beauty and history of our parks with you," the park service wrote.

Amidst Trump's iaugural festivities Friday, the angency retweeted a story comparing the crowd at former President Barack Obama's 2009 swearing-in ceremony with the Republican real estate mogul's seemingly meager 2017 turn-out.

— Binyamin Appelbaum (@BCAppelbaum) January 20, 2017

Shortly after, the account shared another story that appeared to criticize Trump — this one about the White House removing references to civil rights, climate change and healthcare from its website.

Both retweets were scrubbed from the park service Twitter feed by Saturday, but New York Times correspondent Binyamin Appelbaum shared a screengrab of the tweets with the caption: "Looks like the Trump administration hasn't taken control of the [National Park Service] Twitter feed just yet."

Following the retweets, an email to park employees ordered all Department of Interior bureaus "to immediately cease use of government Twitter accounts," according to Gizmodo.

National Park Service spokesman Tom Crosson told CBS News the shut down came because the Friday retweets were "inconsistent with the agency's approach to engaging the public through social media."

"Out of an abundance of caution, while we investigated the situation involving these tweets, the Department of Interior's communications team determined that it was important to stand down Twitter activity across the Department temporarily."

Having reviewed social media guidelines with staff, the Department bureaus were given the go ahead to resume normal activity on the social media platform, Crosson said.
