I feel like in the black community

there's like this misconception

Oh black people don't do that we like to

do this and they have every right to

believe that because you know their

outlet to the world is what you see on

the TV and on the internet and if you

don't see any black people or any people

color climbing you're not going to think

you can do it

yeah nice i was curious something

are there any black climbers so I

literally type are there black climbers

and google and i came across this

forum's and someone said black people

don't climb

I grew up in Queens i went to elementary

school five minutes or beer out here

there's no rock climbing gym there's no

mountains there's nothing out here like

that like my idea of the outdoors is the

backyard you know

I grew up in Harlem you can just go to

like riverbank and find a climbing water

no i mean like my dollars into climbing

my mom wasn't into climbing my family

wasn't into climbing no one knew that

that was like a sport this is that one

of the sports that I got into about

myself and I kind of found myself i

think i was like the only Dominican

there i think i'm still likely only

Dominican doing this

I had kids black kids say we don't do

this and we don't do this and then that

may be like you

it is saying that what else did he think

you can't do this because he's black or

he has not seen another black person do

that

I love climbing everybody know right i

knows neither like a climate like what

is that I might want to come and find

out when i first came to the gym I can

keep out the nine there was maybe one

other black eye

any time you saw someone else was black

like we made it a thing to say hey

what's going on

I remember when he first came you know

we just kind of like sorry another and

then slowly move towards each other

ok looks like me and that I was like

feeling out of place

I'm sort of used to being the only guy

and everywhere that I really want to see

more more black people to write I just

thought like climbing benefit from it

one by myself I climbed for a couple

hours I don't know anybody there i was

in an area program that I've never been

to before and i think i just watched the

group of guys and just killing it and

just gravitated towards that i will look

like you he wanted to crew to just climb

with others like galaxies just like you

learned something here

everything ok with come together this is

going to be the crew that takes over

climbing the crew was actually a mix of

both I guess us and a lot of other agent

who first like black climbing and then

it was agent climbing

I don't know who made it up I think

someone's head brothers of climbing

which kind of made more sense at the

time and then people would just shout it

out like they see as my field CPLC I

think it's just the energy the group

brings just help me climb better because

they're the ones that first brought me

outside you know they're the ones are

talking a lot of things they pushing a

lot how much liquid s1 over

princess I'm favorite part of it came to

a point where we were actually hanging

out outside of the gym you know we would

go go get some food and then I don't

know when it when it hit us you're like

let's all go to chattanooga let's do a

trip that would be so much fun

I definitely have like gone places where

you feel like maybe we should not be

here

you're traveling in a car with other

people put it will happen to be black or

whatever like you do put yourself in an

intern you know outside of that like

just experiencing like standing around

like cops driving past two times and

then we'll stop you are you doing here

you know tried to buy a guidebook talk

to the lady for like 10 minutes machines

like what do you need it for this is

fuckin regarding flying like what you

think everyone's talking you for the

last ten like and admire faces like was

going climbing you know like of it up

God right and if you don't have the only

when do you guys got it got my cubicle

okay it just goes back to you know not

being exposed to to the outdoors rate

and the problem is we're telling myself

that we can't do it

and on the other end there's no one

telling us that we can do it too

it's a problem of both sides of the coin

and we have to package from both sides

it is up

for us to make that education should be

playing there are black people and

that's what we're trying to do now and

show people

of middle and work your feet up a little

bit Lykke feel comfortable decade on

it kind of looks like dust but from a distance it looks like smoke bit this costs around

two dollars you can find this at your local magic but mystic smoke from finger tips it's
