This week, Top 10 of a group celebrating their 10th anniversary: HSJ
Order is a track on HSJ's 5th album Dear. released in 2016
Dear. is also my favourite album and i love almost all songs like Masquerade, B.A.B.Y, Special Love, Superman
and Order is part of these firm favourites
The sound is Jazz-ish, R&B-ish, but also gives a Cabaret type of feel
I won't talk about dat Hot Potato accent in the intro, almost as good as Sakurai Sho's,
Melody is groovy but the lyrics...not so much
It's a song about lies, deception, we understand the story is about a break up with someone trying to come back
but HSJ are telling us it's in vain, what is real and what is a lie, it's not worth it
It's too late, gurl!
I initially found the song kinda sensual and er..HEY, but lyrics are in fact way less funky
but everything works well together and I really want to see the live perf that I suppose is in the latest concert
but DVD is not out yet, so I haven't seen it...
If someone has a live of it, let me know
Single released in 2011 it's also on the JUMP World album released the next year, in 2012
Top 1 Oricon, Platinum award, and it's HSJ's best selling single
If I remember correctly...
We're still on the breakup theme, HSJ are quite unlucky in their love life apparently...poor babies
The PV opens on Yamada calling his friends to announce he got dumped
The song is from the point of view of the friend who's going to help him get better, telling him it's okay
we'll get through this together, you're not alone
I find this adorable, the costumes are very "Boy next door" style so it's very simple and refreshing
I mean HSJ are not very old so...
PV is split between the story and the dance routine
The set on the dance part reminds me a bit of Arashi's Lucky man, except there's no water, just a mirror
Speaking of dancing, I find HSJ excellent on it. They're the group with the most members, 9 people
The choreos are very well thought and entertaining, with groups of 3, 6 or 9, lots of mouvement, diagonal and "Domino effect"
This one is a bit dramatic with the violin in the back, it's between pop and tango/Latin dance
and I love how they mixed the melody
Moral of the Story: If you get dumped, grab your friends and go dancing!
Dash is a song on the JUMP World album released in 2010, not released as a single
The song was written by one of the member: Nakajima Yuto
The sound is very pop rock with nervous guitar riffs, it reminds me of L' Arc-En-Ciel's Drivers's High
It coud be an anime opening, like Naruto, even the lyrics would match this type of Shonen
It's all about not giving up, the most important is not falling but getting back up and moving forward
Keep flying higher, despite difficulties
I love both the melody and the lyrics, HSJ are pretty good on the subject
Unfortunately i don't have a live because you know..
I...am a looser
Still I wanted to talk about this song, it puts you in a great mood!
Scramble is a B-track on the COAMH single, released in 2013
It was written by one of the member, Kota Yabu and in fact it's not sang by all members
They have 9 members but 2 main sub-units: HSB and HS7
Scramble is sang by HSB meaning the following members: Yabu, Takaki, Inoo, Yaotome and Arioka
It's a sort of R&B-ish ballad with a piano melody mixed with more dynamic sounds
It's melancholic love story but the lyrics are intriguing because it's not clear if it's about a hidden one-side love
or maybe just a love story with a narcissistic pervert partner
Something is defo weird
Singel released end of 2016, it's the soundtrack of the Cain&Abel drama, starring Yamada Ryosuke
Usually I don't put a lot of ballads but this one is beautiful
Again, a sort of R&B ballad, I find it very soothing to the ear, quite lyrical both on the vocals and the melody in the back
It's a muffled atmosphere and it's obvs about looove, seeking real love, the struggles that come with it
The set of the performance is understated, the costumes are elegant, lots of black&white, simple yet great
And I have to admit that HSJ on this song look way more mature and manly
They're celebrating their 10th year but, when they started, the eldest was what...? 15?
Obvs, I wasn't following them, they were way too young, I'm pretty sure it would have been illegal for me!
Visually the PV is swinging between dancing and everyday life scenes but the set of this latest part
is willingly shown as being set up inside a studio, you can clearly see it and it gives a more theatrical feel that
fits perfectly the drama soundtrack feels
They grew up so fast!
Single released in 2010, Top 1 Oricon and also on the JUMP World album released in 2012
The theme and lyrics of this song are really nice. The titles means "Thank you, no matter where you are in the world"
As mentioned previously, HSJ were quite young when they debuted and this single is a sort of celebration of all they accomplished so far
and their transition to a more mature image
So they're thanking everyone and their international fanbase with this song, and the word "Thanks" is part of the lyrics
in a lot of various languages: Japanese of course, French, Italian, Spanish, English, Chinese, Thai, Arabic, Korean...
and it can be seen visually in the PV with inserts with the word written in its native language
Now, it might not be obvious right away because they still have their Japanese accent
Meaning "Merci beaucoup" sounds more like "Merushibo"....
I appreciate the effort, I know it's not easy, thanks HSJ
You'll get it next time!
The costumes are nice but a bit funny, there are 2 of them:
The blue one looks more like a Circus Ringmaster ! and the white one is more futuristic
and matches more the set itself which looks futuristic, with lots of 3D effects,
You understand they spent a week in front of a green screen
The melody is a bit mellow but the choreo is more dynamic and punchy
One thing though!
Something is bothering me in the break: Why add the punch sound effects, in a song where you thank people?
Thank you, you Motherfuck...
Is it just me?
Reload wasn't released as a single but is on the Smart album from 2014
I know, I'm such a Hipster, only picking songs that are not the main titles, that'd be so mainstream!
That' d be SO basic!
The song is about love, finding the courage to confess, it's pretty cute
The melody is fresh and lively, it has this Billy Crawford or Justin Timberlake kind of vibe
The live perf is amazing, they do a choreo with hats that is... *smooch*
Those costumes...are freaking fabulous. The white shiny suits doubled with a satin shirt and the ultimate bling bling:
Their initials sewed with black sequins on their back!
Fabulous!
Forever is a track on the Smart album released in 2014
The track does have a PV shot during a live
The atmosphere is similar to a Hip Hop crew, even more so when they're singing all together
It's not just one after the other, there's a unity in the singing, that gives power and intensity
which conveys the hip hop crew feeling, like in "So you think you can dance"
I love this style, mixing rock, hip hop, urban bling bling, I say YES
Costumes are inspired by the american Hip hop, very baggy, lots of writing and accessories
I especially love Yamada and Nakajima's outfits! Maaan these outfits!!
As usual, choreo is very well thought and executed
There's a beautiful unity on stage, on all levels: melody, singing and performance
The PV is more a live performance shoot but it has a nice vibe with the pyrotechnic effects, the slow motion
It gives a more dramatic effect
They went the simple way, fair enough. Did they have to do more?
YES! Of course you do!
They're Johnny's FFS
In line with Forever, we have Boys don't stop
It's a track on the JUMPing car album released in 2015
and it's coupled with a short promo video, which is also played on the big screens during live concerts
There's more bling bling here, children
but instead of urban pop, we have black lights, white outfits and some sort of fluorescent paintings on the face
It's original but it's a shame they wouldn't do the same on stage, I was hoping for a light show in line with this
Such a shame!
The song is a more electro, pop, hip hop song with some Para Para sample sounds
Choreo is on point, we know that
and lyrics...
It's about motivation, nothing is impossible, if you move your fat ass you can do anything!
So grab your balls and let's go!
I say balls but it can be boobs for girls so grab your boobs and let's go!
Because, you know they say "Boys" so that implies balls..but it doesn't mean women can't have balls!
Okay that went too deep!
No, it's not a joke
Utau Utau is not sung by the entire group, remember we had HSB and HS7?
This one is by HS7
HS7 is for Yamada, Chinen, Nakajima and Okamoto
It's on the JUMP World album of 2012 and it's freaking magical!
Best song ever!
The title Utau Utau could mean something like "singing a song" , they took the word Utau and made the entire lyrics with it
It's like Hodor dropping a single!
Hodooooor
The song is interrupted by bits of conversation where the members are talking, competing and shouting UTA!
It's nonsense, then we have Chinen trying to stay professional and talk to the audience
Clap your hands!
He might think of the stage version, like "people can't think we're just goofing around"
Thanks Chinen
The melody is very pop, colourful, bubble gum-ish
It puts you in a great mood and I died of laughter the first time I heard it
I listen to it on repeat with the same effect each time, it's GENIUS!
Come on, Utau utau!
If you don't pay attention the song is very well made, there are some slower parts, rap parts,
Others where you clearly understand it's a chorus, I'm sorry but it's great!
It's fabulous as fuck!
Yes, I like the show off style but UU is my favourite, I'm sorry I love it
Love it!
