Welcome to the final Ardor Update of 2018.
I'm your host, CryptoDemetrius.
Thanks for joining.
We'll kick things off with recent updates from around the community, then, we'll review
the groundbreaking achievements the Ardor platform during its first year.
Before getting started, like this video and subscribe to the Ardor channel to stay updated
with new content.
Also, remember to check this video description for helpful links to continue learning more
about each update.
As always, this video was sponsored by Jelurida.
Let's take a look at what has been going on at Jelurida and around the broader Ardor
and Nxt communities
In early December, Ardor version 2.2.1, was released as a mandatory update for all nodes.
In all honesty, this update represents a major leap forward to Ardor and blockchain technology
at large.
At blockheight 543000 around January 10th 2019, Lightweight contracts, Asset Properties,
and the Max Property Group child chain are hard-coded to go live.
Lightweight contracts mean it will now be possible to integrate external systems with
the blockchain and automate business processes.
Asset properties with metadata for name/value pairs opens the door for a massive expansion
of the platform's supply chain capabilities – making it easier than ever to issue assets
and manage asset relationships throughout full product lifecycles.
The MPG child chain from Max Property Group, formerly named Dominium, will bring real estate
portfolios and investments to the Ardor ecosystem in January 2019 as well.
On a separate note, Lior Yaffe recently released a series of excellent blog posts – first
we learned more about how Lightweight contracts can operate with minimal trust on individual
nodes thanks to the innovative "hashed secret" function.
Lior went on to release several more articles focused on busting common myths about Proof
of Stake – check out his take downs of "Nothing at Stake" and "Long range" attacks over
on Hackernoon.
You still have a chance to compete for $21,000 in prizes in the Ardor Online Hackathon using
Lightweight Contracts.
The deadline was extended to January 10th and winners will be announced on the 31st.
ERC20 to Ignis assets guidance is now available on the Ardor Learning Hub located at ardordocs.jelurida.com.
Additionally, you can now find guides on how to launch KYC/AML compliant Security Token
Offerings and how to Tokenize the Supply Chain of a Farm using the powerful functionalities
of Ignis Assets
An Ardor iGaming article was released in the Times of Malta, highlighting how lightweight
contracts and interoperable gaming tokens could represent a game changer for blockchain-based
gaming.
Hiring is ongoing at Jelurida for java engineers and mobile developers.
Last, it appears the release of the new Jelurida website is To Be Decided but it is an internal
priority for the company.
In the meantime, Elizabeth @TheCryptoWoman has made some excellent progress on a new
Ardorplatform.org website
In broader community news - From the 10-17 December - TarascaD held a
public auction for anyone to bid on purchasing the first 5 original paintings the company
is using as inspiration for their digital card game – Mythical Creatures of the World.
TarascaD also launched a beautiful new official website for their game.
Do you have cool ideas for use cases?
Check out the new discussion board on the Ardor forum for everyone to create a central
repository of great ideas to help new community members and developers get inspired by the
platform's capabilities.
The Ardor Lite app for Android received several updates this month making it possible to log
in with easy to remember aliases.
WalletNxt, a well-established and easy to use community run wallet app for the Nxt blockchain,
recently received enough community funding to support its 2019 iOS signature.
Community member Madfox, also known as the brains behind Ardor.World, has begun making
some killer, community grown gifs and graphics to get the word out about Ardor and Ignis
– this is a great example of how community members can get involved and have a big influence
on social media
EZYcount completed their ICO in December for their token as a license model of licensing
accounting software.
Let's shift gears and take a look at Ardor's 2018 in review.
January 1st 2018 saw the successful launch of Ardor's genesis block on mainnet.
This may seem like an insignficant place to start, but to be honest, it was a historical
first – the first live, multi-chain public blockchain network ever.
Ardor uses the tried and tested, energy-efficient proof of stake consensus process originally
implemented on the Nxt blockchain to secure transactions on the Ardor platform.
Over the summer, Jelurida opened their new headquarters in Lugano, Switzerland.
In August, we saw Turing-complete Lightweight Contracts and Transaction Vouchers reach testnet
Just one month later, Transaction Vouchers went live on mainnet.
These vouchers ensure digital funds are always sent to the correct address – eliminating
the potential for sending funds to the wrong account.
This is a problem that causes incalculable losses for consumers each year – imagine
if more exchanges knew about it.
Then, in October, the Dominium child chain was announced.
This has since been rebranded to the MPG child chain as noted earlier.
In November, 10 second block times were introduced on testnet and thus far there haven't been
any issues.
No date has been set for bringing these speeds to mainnet since transaction volumes don't
necessitate these speeds yet – but the platform is, as always, gearing itself to scale longterm.
Last up, in December 2018, the mandatory Ardor version 2.2.1 update was released with the
powerful business features mentioned earlier like Lightweight Contracts and Asset Properties.
For those of you interested in seeing a more detailed review of 2018, I highly recommend
you check out the comprehensive annual recap from Ardor.World!
Thanks to all of you for tuning in and supporting the Ardor platform this year.
2019 is lining up to be a great year – expect to see more emphasis on explaining the unique
capabilities of the Ignis child chain.
Until then, have a great holiday season and remember to subscribe to the Ardor Platform
youtube channel to stay updated.
Thanks for tuning in.
