hello Automaters! Thanks for tuning in again. I'm here today to show you how to
get your Google Home device whether it's a Google Home Hub a standard a mini a
max it doesn't matter or any of the Google Assistant enabled devices how to
get them acting like a Bluetooth speaker so I'm going to show you a number of
methods and a number of ways to make sure Bluetooth is working and you can
use them as a speaker so let's get going
first off now today I am showing you on an iOS device but ultimately it's really
the same and I can describe a lot of the ways that use an Android device now from
that point I will also show you a couple of different ways to cast Bluetooth and
to use them as Bluetooth speakers so you're gonna see a couple of different
things throughout the video here and you're going to see a couple of
different methods for managing your Bluetooth connection now ultimately
again I'm on an iOS device and the easiest way to make sure that your
device is actually Bluetooth ready is to swipe up from the bottom if you have a
little bit of an older device like I do or you swipe down from the top right on
an iOS device and you will see that Bluetooth icon there in the middle make
sure that's enabled and that means the Bluetooth radio is on from your mobile
device now this is very similar on an Android device you simply swipe down
from the top and you will see Bluetooth there you can go into deeper settings as
well straight there from an Android device by tapping on the word Bluetooth
now in terms of an iOS device you're going to hit the actual Settings button
and then you can go into Bluetooth from there once you're inside of Bluetooth
here what you want to make sure is that number one you're not connected to any
of your existing devices so you can see I have not connected on a lot of
different devices here because I've been using Bluetooth quite a bit in my home
for a long time now ultimately again if your Bluetooth is not on there's another
place for you to go turn it on and again the very similar on an Android
device so once you've made sure that your Bluetooth is not connected from
your phone or your tablet it's not connected to anything else then you're
really ready in terms of your Google Home products now you can go ahead and
you could start music prior if you'd like or start media prior but ultimately
you probably want to start the music after you've gone ahead and connected
and if you do start your music prior in a lot of cases in a lot of applications
it will pause now that's actually really an important point here what can I do
with Bluetooth you can play music essentially and you can play the audio
from lots of video services as well but you can't Bluetooth across the video as
of yet there's there's no way to do that right now
now the other thing is you can play that audio from a multitude of sources really
any source so if you have iTunes or Apple music you can go ahead and do that
if you have Google Play Music YouTube music Spotify it really doesn't matter
what service you're talking about once you start the music
it will Bluetooth across to these devices so let's go ahead and get
Bluetooth enabled now there's a couple of different ways you can go through the
app which I'll show you in a little bit but ultimately I think the easiest way
is simply to request your Google Home product to enable Bluetooth now I'm
going to use this for most of the demo but ultimately you can do the same thing
here so enable Bluetooth devices now ultimately you can see I scrolled down
to the bottom here and there's my living room hub that's this device right here
now you saw it actually make that connection it is physically connected
and there's a play in a stop button here which we'll talk about later if we even
need to but in general you shouldn't have to touch those buttons now you can
see on my iPhone there is actually a connected status showing for my living
room hub that's this device now when I go in I hit the little I there on an iOS
device you can see two options disconnect or forget this device now
disconnect just ends this but it leaves these two devices paired
so we just went through an initial pairing and now these two devices can
repair automatically unless I hit that forget this device that stops the
automatic pairing and what I'll tell you is from this point forward if I simply
ask my Google Home product to enable Bluetooth then they'll pair with the
most recently connected device so it will instantly make that connection as
long as both devices are able to make that connection so both devices have
their Bluetooth on and both devices are unpaired or not connected to anything at
the moment so let's go ahead and see that in action disable Bluetooth okay
disconnected so there you go again now you can see my living room hub is not
connected anymore so let's go ahead and re-enabled enable Bluetooth all right
looking for paired devices so you heard that sound right there and it is now
reconnected to my living room hub and this device so you can see the pairing
capability is very quick now from this point on so now of course let's get to a
demo here again you can use any streaming service any music service
really from this device any video you're watching anything pretty much will play
across now there's going to be certain things that aren't going to work guys I
can't test everything but you can go ahead and try this so now I'm just
inside of Google Play Music and I'm going to look for some royalty-free
music so that I don't get any copyright trouble here but ultimately all I'm
doing is starting a song
no I'm just gonna go ahead and hit pause there one thing we kind of talked about
it a little bit here but ultimately if I had media streaming as I made that
Bluetooth connection that little play button would have been essentially
started right away but because I didn't this little play button here on the
Google Home Hub because it's a visual device they actually give you the
ability to play and pause so I had to hit that and then my music started
playing here again on these devices as long as the media is playing here it
will just start because there's no way to physically interact with this device
to start and stop so they give you a little extra control here now you do
actually have some controls here on this and I'm going to turn down the music
again so I can talk here but you do have some controls number one you can see I'm
using the volume control here I can also use my voice to volume up and volume
down that's really that's the command with any of these devices or to a
certain percent or to a certain level all of those will change the volume I
also have the ability on my device here to adjust the volume overall in the
system so you actually have two different places that you can make
adjustments in the volume no additionally of course I can control the
music here on my phone but I can actually ask for the next song here so
next song
might be a little hard to tell but that is actually the next song now you're not
going to be able to control and ask for different artists or different people
that's it's not voice control here to access your library here what you're
able to do is basically control the player so if you have a control within
your player here you can sometimes do that here things like volume things like
changing the song playing and pausing that those are the basic controls that
you have here with your voice so by the end of this you're going to know what's
coming out for your favorite product maker we're gonna go through things from
Google Amazon so that was me on YouTube and this is what I mean by really
whatever you're playing here as long as the audio is outputting as per normal
you're going to find that now that you've made that Bluetooth connection
that the audio will show up here so if you want to listen to me instead of
watching me on Bluetooth you can go ahead and you can turn that on and just
start playing and make sure that your Bluetooth connected and these devices
will actually play that now I mentioned earlier that there is a different way to
manage the different devices that are connecting through Bluetooth and that is
within the Google Home application now here is my living room hub so I'm just
tapping on that and while you're playing media you will see additional controls
here for play and pause and skipping forward and back and all those different
things the equalizer is up there and the volume is here but up in the top right
there's the gear icon and when I hit that I can actually scroll down to
paired Bluetooth devices right here so as I tap on that you can see my iPhone
is right here and that's what I have been pairing now we're not currently
paired I disconnected but it is showing me the devices that have been paired in
the path and it's showing them in order of usage so if I pair to something else
and it's been used it will be at the top of this list and that's how I know what
will essentially automatically if I'm enabling Bluetooth now you can
also see down here at the bottom the ability to enable pairing mode right
there so this is how you can actually turn on that pairing mode without using
your voice off it's at nighttime you can go ahead and you can do it there a
couple things to talk about in the Google Home application and in just in
general in terms of managing Bluetooth connections and how these devices play
Bluetooth over time now you can see here that I have two paired Bluetooth devices
and again at the top is the most recently paired device that I have now
if I wanted to actually adjust these I can't move them back and forth so what I
need to do is actually pair to that other device or I can go ahead and I can
remove the pairing of one of those devices so as I hit that X over in the
corner you can see I get the option to unpair now once I've done that I've
essentially removed the ability for those two
devices to pair and I have to go through the process that you saw me go through
earlier in the video now as I go back into the settings again for this device
there is also one thing that I want to show you here when you're playing
through multi-room audio or Bluetooth there can be the introduction of a delay
in some other devices now in general with Bluetooth this isn't going to be a
problem but I still want to tell you anyways in case you're using something
like a dual Bluetooth transmitter which I do have in my home and I have used in
the past now what I'll tell you is that what you have to do with this slider
right here first of all it's hard to grab I don't know why we still haven't
fixed this but ultimately the the living room hub here I can delay up to 200
milliseconds for the for the audio output to that device now this is
intended to allow you to synchronize when multiple devices are playing
Bluetooth so you could set this in one of your Google Home devices if it's not
synchronized with something else now obviously you can't back it up
you can't make the delay less than zero milliseconds so if essentially if this
is ahead of your other device then you have to delay that other device anyways
in any case you have to play with that slider a little bit until you get things
synchronized and if you have to delay your other device you'll have to figure
out how to do that but ultimately just wanted to show you those couple of
things before we moved on and one of the most interesting things that you can do
with a Google Home Hub or a Mini or any of these devices is you can use other
sources so anything that I would call kind of higher computing so a phone is
obviously a higher computing device it has the ability to do a lot of different
things seem with a PC or a Mac with a Bluetooth transmitter and I'm going to
grab this out right here my Amazon echo devices these are capable
of actually making pairing connections and you can play from here on to your
Google Home product as a Bluetooth speaker so let's go ahead and actually
do that here first things first this is called my plus plus that's what I've
called it here in terms of my Amazon device management here so I'm going to
go into the device settings there and you'll see a Bluetooth device is setting
there now this is obviously going to be different on a PC or a Mac and you may
also have a different version of this application or you might have a
different smart speaker altogether but ultimately the process is very similar
we have to open up both of these devices for pairing now I'm going to start with
my Google Home and I'm just going to hit enable pairing mode so I could have done
that with my voice but now I've gone ahead and done it that way now I'm going
to hit pair a new device here and again I could use my voice on the Amazon echo
plus here but I've just hit that and now both devices are in pairing mode and
both devices are out there searching so my echo plus has found the living-room
hub and I actually seem to have to tap on it twice for some reason to get this
pairing has to go through but now that I've
tapped twice you can see it working and both devices just gave as a notification
now what's funny about this is I can actually speak to Amazon's voice
assistant and have it play out here so how are you today I'm feeling one part
studious and two part silly but I suppose that's normal when you're
writing science jokes so you'll have to trust that actually it did play here
onto this but ultimately now if I ask for any sort of radio or whatever
service here on this device it is now going to play here so play royalty free
music royalty free music good study music by concentration music ensemble
and study music group and study music masters starting now that's a long name
music
volume down
volume down
next song next song that was the last song starting over stop so there you go
now I've been able to make a connection here and now if I was to enable and
disable these two devices would remake the connection so I could go ahead and
enable Bluetooth on both of these or disable Bluetooth on both of these
rather and then enable on both of them and they would repair and forevermore I
can ask this voice assistant to do things on this voice assistant device so
there you go guys I think that's a pretty good run-through of how to use
your Google Home product as a Bluetooth speaker now of course at the end of the
video is coming some subscribe buttons and some more of our how-to and helpful
videos to help you get set up in your home with your smart devices
you
