Hey guys its Sagar from Tecworkz, and this is my unboxing and overview of the Honor View
20.
I ordered it via Amazon, and I had to go with the blue coloured one, as none of the other
colours were available at the launch.
This is the 6GB RAM and 128GB Storage variant, and it comes at Rs.37,999.
There is another variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built in storage, and that will be
sold at Rs.45,999.
Now before we move on to the unboxing, if you are new to this channel, please make sure
to hit the subscribe button, and the bell icon next to it.
That way you wont miss out on any of the amazing videos coming up on this channel.
It comes in a simple box with the image of the phone at the front, and Honor View 20
writer on the sides.
As we lift the cover, we have the phone sitting right at the top.
I know you guys want a better look at the design of the phone, but lets keep it aside
for a few moments and check out what else do we get in the box.
There is a sim tray removal pin, and this envelope carries a clear TPU case, and some
paperwork like quick start guide and warranty information.
Then we have a USB Type C cable for charging and data transfer.
And then there is this huge power brick.
Its a Huawei branded 5Volts 4Amps Super Charger, which should juice up the phone pretty fast.
At the back it also says that it supports max output of 10volts at 4Amps.
So its a 40watt Super charger.
Honor did not mention anything about 40watt charging speed at the event, so I think even
if the charger can output 40watts, 20watt is the max that this phone can accept.
Alright now lets keep all these things aside, and get back to the phone.
This phone doesn't come with a notch, instead it has a hole on the left side of the screen,
for the front facing camera.
The earpiece speaker and a notification LED is cramped up in the small space between the
display and the metal rim.
You get a better look at the punch hole, when the display is turned on.
While the phone is booting up, lets take a look at this reflective back.
The nano texture under the glass back looks cool from certain angles.
It is visible even if you put on the case that came with the phone.
At the back there is this Honor branding towards the bottom, a fingerprint sensor and a dual
camera setup.
Which we will get back to in a few moments.
I like that Honor included a physical fingerprint sensor at the back.
While I like the idea of having a in display fingerprint sensor, that technology is half
baked right now, and those sensors are slow and not very accurate.
I have used the OnePlus 6T for a last couple of months, and the in display fingerprint
sensor, is my most disliked thing about it.
Coming back to the Honor View 20, there is a metal frame holding 2 pieces of glass together.
And the bottom of this frame, we have a speaker grill on the right, Microphone on the left,
and a USB type C Port for charging and data transfer.
On the right side it has the volume and power buttons, which are nice and tactile.
At the top is the 3.5mm headphone jack, IR blaster and a noise cancelling microphone.
On the left side there is a SIM tray, which can hold 2 nano SIM cards.
Its not a hybrid tray, so you cant add a microSD card to expand the storage.
But with 128GB of internal storage, I doubt you will feel the need of expanding the storage
further.
At the front we have this beautiful 6.4inch IPS LCD Display, with a resolution of 2310
x 1080 pixels.
And here you can see that punch hole for the 25megapixel front facing camera.
Right now I am not sure if I like it or not.
Maybe i'll have an opinion as I use it for the next few days.
Although its cramped up in the left side, and is not as intrusive as the notch on other
phones, but the pixels around this hole are pretty much useless, as they are not showing
up any relevant information.
It is definitely better than the notch while watching videos, as it doesn't take up as
much area.
There is still a chin at the bottom, and I think it is any bigger or smaller than other
Android phones.
It's powered by Kirin 980 Processor, which is built on 7nm architecture, and it has Mali-G76
MP10 GPU.
Its available in 6 and 8GB RAM variants with 128 and 256GB of internal storage respectively.
There's a 4000 mAh battery, which should easily keep the View 20 running for more than
a day.
Cameras at the back are really interesting.
Primary camera is a Sony IMX586 module, which has a massive 48 Megapixel sensor with F/1.8
aperture.
And the secondary camera is a depth sensor, and Honor calls it Time of Flight 3D Camera.
At the front, there is a 25megapixel selfie camera, with F/2.0 aperture.
Lets just quickly check out interface of the camera app.
You can swipe left or right to switch modes, and there is this 1x-2x button on the right
side, which will let you zoom in and out.
Now it does not have a secondary telephoto lens, so this is just digital zoom.
Speaking of the 48 megapixels, one of the 1st things I would want to check out here
are the resolution options.
By default it is set to 12 megapixels for the rear camera, but I will go ahead and change
it to 48 Megapixels.
Both the front and rear cameras are also packed with some heavy AI features.
I am not a big fan of AI mode on any of the smartphones, and that is probably the 1st
thing that I disable on any new smartphone that I get.
But I will still give the AI mode a try and let you guys know my thoughts in the camera
review.
Here are couple of sample images that I took today.
I am going to take a lot more images and videos with these cameras in all sorts of lighting
conditions, and have a very detailed camera review up for you guys in the next few days.
Out of the box, we get Android Pie, and Honor is running a skin called Magic UI on top of
it.
This is the first time I am going to using a Honor phone with Kirin processor, and magic
UI, so I am looking forward to giving it a try.
There seem to be a lot of customisation options built into this UI, which is a good thing.
Most of the built in apps are optimised for the camera hole, and no information is lost
behind it.
But I will have to use 3rd party apps, and see how well they adapt to this punch hole
on the top left of the display.
With a 6.4inch screen, this is definitely a big device, but it feels really good in
the hands.
Despite of having a 4000Mah battery, and a metal rim all around, it doesn't feel too
heavy, because the weight is distributed evenly throughout the whole body.
As beautiful as this back looks, without a case, I am going use it with a case, since
it gathers and shows a lot of fingerprints.
For the time being I am going to use this clear case that came in the box, until I find
a good 3rd party one which will add a bit more protection.
This Kirin 980 is the latest processor from Huawei, and it is supposed to be very fast
and efficient.
So far the performance seems fast and responsive.
Animations are fluent, apps are kept open in the background, and everything is running
smoothly.
But I would really like to see it compete with the Snapdragon 845, so if you guys want
to see a speed test between this and the Pixel 3 or the OnePlus 6T, just go ahead and smash
that like button.
In the little time I have spent with this phone, it has managed to leave a good first
impression on me.
Right now, I couldn't find any problem with it.
I will be using it for the next few weeks as my primary device, and let you guys know
of any issues that I face.
At a starting price of Rs.37,999, I think it seems like a good option for what it offers.
It would have been even better at around 35 thousand rs. mark.
If its cameras are as good in real life as they are on paper, View 20 can also prove
to be a worthy competitor for the OnePlus 6T.
So what do you guys think about this Honor View 20?
Do you like the punch hole style opening for the selfie camera or do you prefer a water
drop style notch or the traditional notch?
Do let me know in the comments.
I will be making a lot of videos about this phone and also compare it with some of the
other phones that I have, in the coming days.
