Youtube daily Feb 8 2019

Thanks to a recent decision by the EPA, more than a 110 million American citizens will

now be subjected to increased amounts of cancer causing corporate toxins in their drinking

water.

I'm with Farron cousins tonight and we're going to talk about that.

Farron, look, you know, I, I gotta tell you, we all expected the worst from the EPA here

because I really, the only way I can describe the EPA lately, I'd say over the last two

decades really is, is a captured as a captured agency.

The, the industry has totally captured the agency.

Don't you agree?

Oh, absolutely, and now that we have, you know, Andrew Wheeler, who is still the acting

EPA administrator, he's more than willing to kind of carry on this legacy of let's let

corporations do whatever they want to do and I'm just going to sit here, run this agency

and not actually enforce any of the rules.

And that's what we're seeing right now.

These chemicals that we're talking about, these are the, perfluorooctane sulfonate,

PFOS, and the, perfluorooctanoic acid.

Okay.

Let, let me give you the history on these because as you know, I tried the case on one

of these.

The, the, what happened was 3M decided that the PFAS was so dangerous that they stopped

making it.

They stopped manufacturing it and there's the, the letter that came out in the trial

on PFOA, was where they're discussing the idea that they have a responsibility to, to

citizens.

They have a responsibility to, to the government.

They have responsibility to their shareholders to pull it off the market because it is so

dangerous and the toxic cost and the financial costs down the road would be huge.

So they pulled it off the market and so now they, they're the ones that developed it.

They said it's this dangerous, but now we have an EPA administrator who says, you know,

Andrew Wheeler says, no we're not going to actually say it's dangerous.

Matter of fact, we're not even going to put any limits on what can be sold, any reasonable

limits on what can be sold or what, what you find in your drinking water.

So people are drinking this right out of the tap.

They are, and here's the worst part, you know, you mentioned this has gone on for a long

time and yes it has.

This is not just Wheeler, I mean the EPA has delayed putting any legal limits on this for

20 years.

So we're going back four different administrations at this point from Clinton to Trump here.

They all knew this, they all had the same material, except it's evolved over the years

to show even worse things.

But even back in the late 90's, they knew this stuff was toxic.

They knew it was going to cause cancer.

And look right now, there is no legal limit on PFOAs and PFOS'.

Michigan right now has 15 sites contaminated by the PFAS Chemicals.

They lead the charge.

New York 10 sites, but 110...

North Carolina.

Yeah, North Carolina is absolutely contaminated with Gen-X and 110 million people, just to

put it that way, if you're staying in there with two other people, one in three of you

roughly percentage wise, is drinking these chemicals on a daily basis.

And what we know about the chemicals has been related, clearly been related to cancer.

If you take a look at, we've talked about on this show, take a look at the, the, The

Devil We Know that's on Netflix right now.

It really, really tells the story.

Okay.

So the point is I don't really see relief for agencies.

I mean for consumers.

This is an agency that has for 20 years decided I'm not going to do this.

And the reason why is the lobbying money is so big.

The influence of these companies that make this is just so monstrous that it's really

tough for the consumer to fight back.

How does the consumer go to Washington and say, you know, well, what about us?

Can we give you some?

There is no lobbying money that the consumer gives.

And the unfortunate thing we're going to have to live with this, Wheeler certainly is not

going to pull us out of it.

Just to make one more note here, the EPA in December, December 2018, so two months ago,

they said that these particular chemicals, we're talking about, they cause developmental

effects in fetuses or women who are breastfeeding.

Low birth weight, accelerated puberty, skeletal problems, testicular cancer, kidney cancer,

liver damage, thyroid damage, cholesterol changes.

And in all that, Wheeler says, no, we're not going to give you any limits that you can

actually go by.

Flutter VS React Native -- Will Flutter Kill React Native? || Crema - Duration: 9:56.

CK: So, maybe one of the bigger questions that is very popular is, "Is this going to kill

React Native?"

Scotty: Kill.

Andrew: Kill.

Scotty: Hi.

Welcome to Devs on a Couch.

CK: Today we're gonna look at Flutter and React Native and talk about our experiences with

them and see which frameworks are gonna be great to use in 2019.

If you're new here, we are Crema.

We help companies all over the country build, design, and develop products and the teams that

build them.

Scotty: What are we doin', CK?

CK: We're gonna talk about Flutter and I guess the first thing we want to say, our kind of

intro is: Who made it?

What is it? And why is it good?

Scotty: Who made it? I know that one.

Google made it.

Andrew: Done!

CK: So it's more it's more than just a mobile framework like React Native.

What differentiates it from from React Native?

Scotty: Well I think right now it's mostly for mobile solutions but Google is also trying to make

it work on the desktop and the web.

CK: Very cool and our expertise with it so far? I know you guys have dug into this a little

more than I have.

Andrew: Yeah. Not as much. I think we're all kind of newbies at it at the end of the day.

I've done some Udemy stuff, done the code labs, two or three of them.

But yeah we're still figuring out as we go, I think.

Scotty: Yeah, same. I've done two or three little minor apps.

I did the token Taylor Swift up of course.

And yeah a Udemy course.

CK: And your first impressions coming from React Native?

Andrew: You can go.

Scotty: Yeah I mean so so far it's been extremely stable.

I think that's one of my favorite things about it.

Andrew: I think we differ a little bit in the stability aspect of it just because I come from a

purely web background and using React and then getting into React Native was really nice just

because I could utilize all the same things but then Flutter is a lot more of a native experience

and so a lot of the environment stuff and having to dig into that native code has been a little bit

more challenging for me.

A little bit more spin up time.

Scotty: Yeah, I think one of the biggest things that I noticed upfront is just the sheer amount of

widgets that are available.

And so in and React Native you pretty much have to roll your own everything or go to a third party.

So like your navigation.

Well that's the big one. The navigation.

But I mean, like, there's a widget for just about everything.

CK: And everything is a widget right?

[Everyone Agreeing]

So, in what we've played around with so far we've noticed some very sharp differences between

Flutter and React Native.

We've also noticed that there are a lot of similarities where they're just calling something

slightly different like widgets instead of components and things like that. But then there

are some things that are maybe taking on a different flavor entirely like the BLoC pattern.

Do you guys want to talk about that a little bit?

Scotty: I don't.

Andrew: I have delved into it a little bit.

It is really interesting.

We've talked about it some.

It reminds me a lot of redux just in that you're kind of reaching out with an action type thing and

then reaching into some type of store where everything is kind of handled. The cool thing

about the BLoC Pattern that I've noticed is

it seems like to me, and I don't know how true or not true this is, but as I've used it you do a lot

more logic in there than like in your block than you would within like Redux. I mean I know --

Scotty: Like in business logic?

Andrew: Yeah.

So I mean you've got your reducers and everything where you don't know I forget it's like a widget I

don't know you something like that.

Yeah you do what it's called, basically.

But that was a really interesting thing to me is everything happens in the BLoC that's related to the BLoC.

CK: So if we were to rapid fire like why would someone want to pick up Flutter and start messing with it?

We've talked about the error handling which is a huge deal.

You know like state full hot reloading and getting those errors in line, like at the component level.

Yeah. I mean that's a whole other thing.

Andrew: I mean just using DART again I come from the web and JavaScript so not a strongly

typed language by any means and so getting into that there's a lot more just native area handling

risk because of the language you're using.

But the thing that I'm almost most excited about is just the animations you get out of the box.

So like when you something's not valid it gives this little tiny jiggle which is so awesome it's

like it's like haptic feedback for the eyes.

Scotty: Yeah. CK: Yeah.

Wow, we can look at that.

Scotty: They can steal that, TM (Trademark) it.

Andrew: Yeah.

CK: You mentioned Flair, which is a really cool thing that they're doing with SVG support and so you're able

to take SVG animations and use them natively within the app and then also extend that. You can

even use that in other platforms if you create that animation export that to web or..

Scotty: Yeah, so Flair are 2D animations. Basically you can include it.

It's a file in your app. You would use it like an image or anything else but you're going to have

these different states and some of the examples we've seen are extremely cool.

CK: Mhm

Scotty: This one this week that I shared out was that was it a bear?

CK: Yeah.

Scotty: But a bear on a log in form. And so, as you're typing, you can send a message to that to

play the, you know, this animation to watch as the user is typing.

And then if there is an error can be like, "Oh, no!"

So, it's just really cool and it all happens at what Andrew was saying, 60 frames per second.

And so it's like extremely smooth and it's so cool.

CK: Yeah.

Andrew: Yeah.

CK: And then you've got the native navigation component you're not using a third party for that.

There's thinking about writing and in cross platform right now it's it's on the mobile platforms

It's also quickly being courted toward desktop and maybe even web.

Andrew: Yeah, that would be crazy. That would be crazy.

Just if you could do everything in one code base you can be one of the more powerful platforms out there.

CK: Yeah.

Scotty: And I know we were talking about this earlier, but that was one of the things that stood

out with React Native. Because the promise is, with React Native, that it's learn once and write everywhere.

But it's just not the case.

I mean the the difference between React Web and React Native are..

CK: every widening.

Scotty: Yeah.

And honestly like every time I have to upgrade a React Native project I die a little bit on the inside.

CK: So that's a huge deal.

It's like, I mean to upgrade from Flutter version to version is just.

Scotty: Flutter update.

CK: Yeah and it's done.

Scotty: And so far, I mean, knock on wood...

CK: Right.

Scotty: We don't have any wood.

But yeah.

But yeah, so far it's just "Flutter update" and everything just continues to work.

So yeah, the overall experience has been extremely nice so far.

I really love it.

CK: So maybe one of the bigger questions that is very popular is, "Is this going to kill

React Native?"

Scotty: Kill.

Andrew: Kill.

Scotty: Yeah.

CK: I mean literally kill React Native?

Scotty: Is that -- is that a legit question?

CK: I think it's it's something that people are asking but as a dev, I think we always look at

that kind of question and say,

"Well no, you're not going to -- One framework isn't gonna necessarily kill another one."

Andrew: Well...

CK: It's "Whats the use case?"

Andrew: Yes.

CK: What's the community adoption and support?

Andrew: So I think I mean think about when React and React Native came out everybody was

asking the same thing about Angular.

"Is this going to kill Angular?" And I mean in their there's something like 500,000 apps still in

the App Store using Angular.

So it's not going anywhere.

And there's still gonna be a need for it.

Scotty: I mean, PHP is still here. It's probably not gonna kill React. Or React Native.

CK: Though, I mean it is gaining support rather quickly which is nice to see. And it's

backed by Google with a serious commitment to this stuff.

Andrew: I mean we've talked about before it's being backed by Google does that automatically

give you any kind of concrete --

Scotty: It doesn't necessarily mean success, that's for sure.

CK: So based on what we know about Flutter right now do we see this becoming more popular

than React Native in the future?

Andrew: I mean if they get the desktop component and the web component down then yes I

would say it would look that way.

But we'll have to see.

Scotty: Yeah I mean there's definitely like that new new kid at school thing going on right now, so everybody's talking about it.

Everyone's using it.

I've got a long term developer buddy that he said that they're actually switching and he's been

hardcore like Native only and they're switching all of their development over to Flutter this year.

That to me (like whenever I see what the community is saying about it and other developers that have

been resistant to cross platform development before.)

I mean that speaks volumes.

Like I think Google's really onto something and, you know, just our experience with like the animations

all the widgets and everything else it's it's very very intriguing.

So much so that.

We're writing.

Andrew is actually writing an app and.

Andrew: Writing, getting there.

We've started the development.

CK: And I think it'll be it's a good discussion for the future too of saying what is

the difference between a write once, use it everywhere versus having features you don't

necessarily need and parody across all platforms you know and so but having it all in one not like

code base in one language with the same syntax like React VS React Native, you know, is very

compelling.

That's really cool.

So I think that's about all we have for right now.

We get need some time to dig into the platform further and learn.

Which we're excited to do in 2019. And also hoping to hear from any of you who are using Flutter or

digging into it, getting your feet wet and digging in deeper and seeing if you can use it in more and

more exciting ways.

Andrew: So stay tuned for more from Crema in development, design. Hit the Like button,

subscribe, keep up to date with what's going on.

We'll talk to you later.

CK: See ya!

Andrew: Bye!

Scotty: Bye

Looking at the Satellite Waiting for a Load Trucker Rudi 01-31-19 Vlog#1670 - Duration: 10:43.

hey good morning good morning ladies and gentlemen welcome welcome to the show we

are just getting our day started sleeving this truck stop up here this

past portage it's another another pretty cold one this morning I know that is to

be the fact just trying to see in the mirror if all of my fields are turning

you don't need one of them wheels not turning right yeah that's usually how

that goes but I know it's a little bit of a weird angle how you got to get out

of here guys are always parking where there shouldn't really be parking like

this guy but anyways the Sun is pretending to come up over there it's

not all the way up yet but might be coming up here at any minute though you

know everne alright but anyways we got 489 kilometers - I mean kilometres miles

to go to our customers so it should be about eight hours maybe eight hours yeah

RJ that's exactly what we're going right okay I guess we got to be I guess

this is considered a lane up here so I guess we'll

make sure we are in here right by as you guys can see the sky is turning nice and

orange already all like that that Sun should be nicely visible here in a few

minutes

well yeah so we haven't gotten a reload yet and so I don't know what we're gonna

be doing after this but I know sure I'm gonna get there this afternoon probably

about 3 4 o'clock so we'll make sure we get this load off I told them I wouldn't

be available to tomorrow morning anyway so I figured then I just want to take it

easy today I don't know why

regardless let's get going here appreciate you guys tuning in again for

another trucker Rudi show and let's see what kind of day we can have today right

I have already been going for a good vial here guys and we still have

beautiful sunshine I like it a lot guys I really do

I'm already up in Illinois or Illinois US or whatever I were you guys say it

and we are on the US us are we're on high 39 going southbound and down we go

yeah that's right

now I think I'm gonna be making me up it's tough you're pretty soon though I

really do think it's getting closer and closer to that time where we gotta make

this a little bit of a pit stop and take our half an hour break and then

maybe I was a little bite to eat or something and continue on cruising alone

here right but at least the temperature is finally finally starting to warm up a

little bit it's now only 21 minus 21 Celsius it was still minus 36 this

morning when I took off from that logs so still the fairly cold one but now

it's finally starting to get a little bit more reasonable in my opinion

however we still do see a quite a few trucks broke down probably frozen up

alright guys it is time to go take us a shower

I know there's a little bit over fries on here so I mean quickly uh go inside

and get me a good shower I need to get out of my misery I don't know I've been

kind of miserable here for the last couple of days so I need to get out of

that bad mood get myself back up lift it back up and be happy it again right but

anyways let's see we can do that with a shower just finished having that shower

guys man oh man I'm telling you now I feel great and it's warmed up quite a

bit over here so I'm seeing all my snow and everything is starting to or ice is

starting to melt on this truck now so that is awesome I like that I actually

like that a lot but anyways we got a hundred and

forty-three miles to go till we get to our delivery and we still have not

gotten a reload I know it's taking them so long

today but sure doesn't look too promising and that's why I didn't really

push too hard either right I didn't feel like it was a big rush because I didn't

have a reload yet right and so I decided to take it a little easy right

but it has gotten kind of cloudy up here though it really has I just hope it

ain't gonna be like snowing or anything like that up here right

hi I'm really happy I pulled in here got me that awesome shower it was nice

no I feel much better at the entrance to the laptop Oh more a week now and yes

some of that stress is maybe disappeared a little bit I'm open anyways entrance

to the laptop let's get back on the interstate here

i-55 I know we got a big city to go through here in a little bit not sure

exactly how far how far it is up to there st. Lou you believe it is and

sometimes there can be a little bit of traffic up there so how's kind of open

up be true there by now but we slept in a little bit this morning so

we're not true there just yet but maybe soon right now looks like six 26 miles

and I got a stay on i-64 West US 40 / 55 / Illinois at 3 yo yo yo a buncha roads

are running together up there it looks like many a sequence it's go 426 let's

see we can get through the town there or city before the big massive rush hour

look here guys we are just about to get to our our customer here and we are

finally starting to see some more sunshine that I like a lot

oh yeah that's for sure only sad part is I still don't have a reload offer yet so

I'm not 100% sure exactly what we're going to be doing after this Wow

I have no clue what we're gonna be doing after this is what I should really say

but whatever we'll go back here about 10 miles there's a truck stop there and I

know I can stay there for the night I guess and

find out in the morning I guess maybe they'll have something by the morning

right sent them a message a little while ago what's it look like

for a reload for me no reply yet well I guess that's how it goes but I am

enjoying the nice weather over here it's zero so it's like just at the freezing

point that is much nicer than having -36 this morning yeah I like that a heck of

a lot more but anyways let's go find our customer while I've been here before so

I don't really have to find them I know exactly how to get there but it's get

there and get this load off and hopefully by that time we have a reload

or at least we know we're doing right here we go guys we finished doing our

delivery here and it was taking them a little while to get me offloaded but we

never did receive a reload offer yet so I went back to the truck and guess what

I did I started cleaning my truck it was super super dirty in here so there's

still a little few flakes here and there but you know I gotta take my garbage out

yet but look at my nice shiny dashboard here guys oh yeah and that's that ND

filter that I always put on the camera there's actually two of them one is a

darker one and then the top one you might be able to see is dark on the top

and clear on the bottom right but yeah look at that

got everything nicely cleaned that cleaned my windshield from the inside

wiped off all the floor to dashboards everything so that was due to I hadn't

done it since me and the wife was in Texas right that's the last time I did

it so it was definitely do you might be able to hear a little bit of music

playing in the background there sometimes when I'm not saying nothing

and that's because I'm listening to my sponsor trucker jukebox on speaker radio

go check him out if you haven't done so already so with that being said

let's go ahead and get out of here and close off this show and how was a good

night's sleep and come back tomorrow and see what we come up with tomorrow I

don't know if we're gonna be sitting there all day but you're gonna have to

come back and check it out and see what happens with that being said I'm out of

here have a great day everybody we'll see you tomorrow
