Today Doodle pays tribute to an early leader of the disability

rights movement, Ed Roberts.

After contracting polio at age 14, Roberts was paralyzed from

the neck down.

He was confined to a special wheelchair with a respirator

during the day and slept in an 800-pound iron lung at night.

Despite his limitations, he continued his studies via

telephone hookup, attending in person a few hours a week.

His mom, Zona, encouraged him persevere despite the odds.

Roberts's activism began in earnest as early as high school,

when he was denied his diploma due to his inability to complete

Physical Education (PE) and Driver's Ed.

After petitioning, not only did he earn his diploma, he went on

to college, becoming the first student with severe disabilities to attend the

University of California, Berkeley.

There, he led other Berkeley students with severe disabilities in creating

the Physically Disabled Students Program, the first of its kind.Roberts

went on to earn his bachelor's and master's degrees in political science

from Berkeley, and later returned to lead the Berkeley Center for

Independent Living, which inspired many similar centers around the

U.S.

In 1976, Gov. Jerry Brown appointed him Director of the

California Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and in 1983 he co-founded the World Institute

on Disability.

His mother Zona describes: "I watched Ed as he grew from a sports-loving

kid, through bleak days of hopelessness,

into self-acceptance of his physical

limitations as he learned what was possible for him to accomplish.

His years at UCB were great ones as he both enjoyed his college status

and got in touch with his leadership qualities.

He took great pleasure in watching people with disabilities

achieve greater acceptance."

Today's Doodle pays homage to Ed Roberts's 78th Birthday

Mono Mario (comedy series) | T6 Ep 4.1 - Duration: 3:41.

And? What did they said?

They're two drug addicts, they don't want to talk now

but they're going to get soft when the urge to get high kicks in.

The problem is that they just called a lawyer.

One that's a piece of sh!t worse than the people he defends…

a "free get out of jail card" lawyer and I won't have another option than to let them go.

What are their names?

They didn't have any ID, and they refused to tell me, but the guy wasn't careful and said her name: Cheli.

Mick and Cheli!!!!

They're two hippie types right??

She says this phrase all the time:

"I want to get high!"

Right?

Yes! yes, it's them.

Let me speak to them, I'll make them confess!

Lucky for me that only two junkies like you guys

have the idea to use a credit card of the person you just killed. Murderers!

We didn't waste anyone!

You wasted her, dude! The chick wrote it down.

What? What? What??? The girl what??

Dude, until my lawyer gets here we're not answering anything.

Did you hear him? He screwed up on his own!

This guy needs to wake up, Maria!!!

He just said I'm the murderer because "the girl wrote it".

Aha!

How the fuck did he know that Socorro wrote Mono Mario Murderer???

Ohhh! Of course!

Ohhhh, so you finally get it!

It's a proven fact that the security cameras in the sector of my house weren't working,

and I can prove the link between him and Jeringa, the guy in charge of the cameras.

It's a proven fact that they were there in the scene of the crime,

it's a proven fact that they stole the belongings of the deceased,

and it was them who wrote the message with blood;

we can prove that in two minutes by making them do a dictation quiz!

Why did you kill her???

You're going to get 25 years in prison.

And guys who murder women get raped in jail…

your a$$hole is going to look this wide after all the sex you're going to have!

We don't have anything to do with that, man!

Yeah, dude! Stop tripping!

They're starting to get soft. We have to give them a final blow, and they'll confess!

Let's go for stage "B" of our plan, ok?

This investigator is a little dumb!

He's disorganized, and leaves everything forgotten.

He has a terrible problem with memory, he might be in the early stages of Alzheimer's.

It's a tough disease, you don't remember anything.

But, well… let's keep with our business.

If you guys didn't kill her, you better tell me what the hell happened,

because your sentence will be less severe. You got me?

Dude, don't try to be our friend, man!

Our lawyer is on his way and he'll get us out immediately, you fool!

The lawyer of the Tapia brothers? You call that guy?

It's none of your business!

No... because if you called that guy, I'm letting you know, he's not coming.

That lawyer only defends big narcos, forget it if you think he's coming.

You guys don't have any money for a glass of wine or a joint,

and you think Dr. Gregorio Stinchole is going to represent you? You're a pair of fools!!!

Neonorm™ Calf | Avoid Dehydration - Duration: 1:33.

An advanced product that

inhibits fluid loss in dairy and beef

calves at the cellular level.

More than half of all pre-weaned dairy calf deaths

are attributable to diarrhea and

other digestive problems that cause

dehydration and results in expensive

supportive care, impaired weight gain, and

reduced profitability.

Neonorm Calf is an enteric-coated bolus

containing a proprietary botanical extract.

It's designed to be given orally

to pre-weaned dairy and beef calves.

once every 12 hours as needed for up to three days

to inhibit fluid loss from the circulatory

system via the lining of the gut.

Here's how it works.

When a dairy or beef calf is fed milk

the pH of the stomach increases which can allow

viruses and bacteria to pass through the

stomach lining and cause disease in calves' intestines.

This causes a salt imbalance driving

excess fluid into the intestines

resulting in diarrhea.

Neonorm Calf normalizes fluid flow from the gut

lining cells to the intestines helping calves

avoid debilitating dangerous levels of dehydration.

Call Jaguar or your veterinarian today to learn how it

can work in your operation.

Hackers Back Up US Climate Data So Trump Can't Delete It - Duration: 3:46.

On Friday, January 20th, as Donald Trump was taking the oath of office to become the 45th

President of the United States a group of 60 scientists, computer programmers and hackers

met at UCLA to completely comb through government archives, the whitehouse.gov website and copy

and collect and back up any data that the government has on climate change.

They then took all this data and stored it on servers housed in Europe so that the Trump

Administration could not touch it.

The reason they did this is because they were terrified that the Trump Administration was

going to go through and delete all of this data once the swearing in ceremony was finished.

To be honest this was something that the scientists and federal employees had worried about a

few weeks ago, so they began doing the same thing long before the inauguration even took

place.

What they're planning to do now is keep this data, go through it, analyze it and then compare

it to what is still available on the government websites.

Essentially if the Trump Administration attempts to falsify any data, any reports or scrub

anything, these scientists, these hackers, these computer programmers are going to call

them out on it.

That is probably one of the most positive things I've seen in quite a while.

Here's the other side of this, they were right because immediately following the swearing

in ceremony the term climate change disappeared from the whitehouse.gov website.

I know Trump supporters are out there saying, "No it didn't, it's still there."

Well, no there were plenty of search engines, images out there, articles written.

The term did completely disappear at least for a little bit.

Maybe they've put it back up on a couple pages now.

Trump people attempted to write this off by saying, "Of course he believes in climate

change.

He's said it over and over again for months."

Kellyanne Conway said that.

No, Kellyanne, he never said that.

He hasn't been saying it for months.

Really the last thing we heard from him on climate change is that he believes it's a

hoax perpetrated by the Chinese.

Don't try to tell us with your alternative facts that he has always been a believer in

climate change.

She verified this by saying because the climate always changes.

What idiot Conway is confusing at the moment is climate and weather.

The weather changes from day to day.

Republicans aren't smart enough to understand that the weather is not climate.

They think that if it's snowing one day climate change, global warming, can't be real.

Oh God no.

Look at the climate outside.

They're just not smart enough to understand the difference between weather and climate.

That's why the scientists and programmers and hackers had to get together and copy this

data and back it up and store it so that we do not lose it for the next four years.

This is decades worth of research and scientific analysis that the Trump Administration is

attempting to get rid of.

Luckily we do have people out there that took action, they got the data.

Hopefully they will call Donald Trump out every single time his administration attempts

to falsify, remove or otherwise bastardize decades worth of research on climate change.

Deep Learning with Tensorflow - The Recurrent Neural Network Model - Duration: 3:45.

Hello, and welcome!

In this video, we will provide an overview of the recurrent neural network model.

A Recurrent neural network, or RNN for short, is a great tool for modeling sequential data.

The RNN only has one layer, but it maintains a state, or a context, in order to remember

the analysis that it's done up to that point.

This state "recurs" back into the net with each new input, which is where the net

gets its name.

Let's take a closer look at how this works.

Input data first flows into the model's single layer.

The data is processed in the same way as a traditional net, but as we mentioned the net

also receives the current state or the context along with the input.

If this is the first data point, then some form of "initial state" is used, which

will differ depending on the type of data being analyzed.

After processing, the data is output with a new context that represents the most recent point.

Then this context is fed back into the net with the next data point, and so on.

We repeat these steps until all the data is processed.

Keep in mind that since the context changes at every step, the net can produce a different

output for the same input depending on the current state.

This is what allows a recurrent net to perform sequential data processing.

Recurrent neural networks are extremely versatile and are used in a wide range of applications

that deal with sequential data.

One of these applications is image captioning.

Although it's not purely recurrent, Andrej Karpathy and Li Fei-Fei created a model that's

capable of understanding the elements in an image.

The model can assign words to the elements, and string them together to form a caption

that describes the scene.

You can take a look at two examples of that here.

Another application for recurrent nets is music composition.

A network can be trained using MIDI files, which are a type of standard for digital audio.

After learning about rhythm and melodic patterns, the net can output data that can be converted

back to the MIDI file format, and listened to.

We only covered a few applications, but variants of the recurrent model are continuing to solve

increasingly complex problems.

You can see a few of those variants here, but they're beyond the scope of this video.

Despite all its strengths, the recurrent neural network is not a perfect model.

One issue is that the network needs to keep track of the states at any given time.

There could be many units of data, or many time steps, so this becomes computationally

expensive.

One compromise is to only store a portion of the recent states in a time window.

Another issue is that Recurrent Neural Networks are extremely sensitive to changes in their

parameters.

As a result, gradient descent optimizers may struggle to train the net.

The net may suffer from the "Vanishing Gradient" problem, where the gradient drops to nearly

zero and training slows to a halt.

It may also suffer from the "Exploding Gradient", where the gradient grows exponentially off

to infinity.

In either case, the model's capacity to learn will be diminished.

By now, you should have a good understanding of the main ideas behind the recurrent neural

network model.

Thank you for watching this video.

Finding the Spark of Your Career from Transition is the New Normal 2016 - Duration: 1:02.

When you have that type of love for your work -- and I'll point to typical places where

this arises, like teaching and other areas like that where you are dealing with children

especially -- if you develop that love, you will work harder.

You will produce better.

You will do great, great work because you have that little spark -- that little extra

spark.

So one of the things that I have tried to do over the years is help people find that

spark.

And it started with me -- me sitting down after a layoff particularly, going "What the

heck do I really like to do and not do and all this stuff?"

And then I had a friend some to me and he was in the midst of a transition and he was

struggling it just struck me and I said, 'Here's what you want to do.

Write down everything you do right now.

Then write down everything you would want to do -- that you enjoy doing and let's work

our way through it."

Character Spotlight: Rebecca Ingram | Season 1 | 24: LEGACY - Duration: 1:31.

Six months ago, US Special Forces launched an assault

on the compound of Ibrahim Bin-Khalid,

killing him and eight members of his terrorist organization.

To the woman whose tireless efforts made that victory

possible, Rebecca Ingram.

HOWARD GORDON: Rebecca Ingram, who was the head of CTU

and has since retired, is now the presumptive first lady

and wife of John Donovan, who's running for president.

MIRANDA OTTO: She's made a deal with her husband

that as he's supported her in the past with the things

that she's had to do, she's agreed

that she will leave her position at CTU

to help him with his campaign.

The party asked John to run four years ago.

He said no because of me.

I promised once we got Bin-Khalid it was his turn.

MIRANDA OTTO: And on this particular day when we begin,

she gets a phone call and she gets called back in.

Carter?

We're blown-- the whole squad.

Bin-Khalid's people found us.

They have our new names, and three of them

just broke into our house.

They killed the rest of the squad.

COREY HAWKINS: Eric and Rebecca are thrust back into the action

and literally racing the clock to try to take out

these terrorists before they can do

these attacks on American soil.

What happened to those rangers is just the start of something

worse.

She really wants to support her husband John,

but she is somewhat addicted to the way

that CTU involved all of her life.

It's very hard for her to let go.

Some people thrive in that kind of situation,

and I think that's kind of true of Rebecca.
