Types of Rotors - Different types of Rotors and their characteristics - Duration: 5:20.

The rotor is a moving component of an electromagnetic system in the electric motor, electric generator,

or alternator.

Its rotation is due to the interaction between the windings and magnetic fields which produces

a torque around the rotor's axis.

In this video we will go to learn different types of rotor.

In induction motors, generators and alternators have an electromagnetic system consisting

of a stator and rotor.

There are two designs for the rotor in an induction motor: squirrel cage and wound.

In generators and alternators, the rotor designs are salient pole or cylindrical.

Here we discourse four types of rotor.

1.

Squirrel-cage rotor.

2.

Wound rotor.

3.

Salient pole rotor.

4.

Cylindrical rotor.

Squirrel cage rotor.

The squirrel-cage rotor consists of laminated steel in the core with evenly spaced bars

of copper or aluminum placed axially around the periphery, permanently shorted at the

ends by the end rings.

This simple and rugged construction makes it the favorite for most applications.

The assembly has a twist: the bars are slanted, or skewed, to reduce magnetic hum and slot

harmonics and to reduce the tendency of locking.

Housed in the stator, the rotor and stator teeth can lock when they are in equal number

and the magnets position themselves equally apart, opposing rotation in both directions.

Characteristics of Squirrel cage rotor.

This rotor rotates at a speed less than the stator rotating magnetic field or synchronous

speed.

Rotor slip provides necessary induction of rotor currents for motor torque, which is

in proportion to slip.

When rotor speed increases, the slip decreases.

Increasing the slip increases induced motor current, which in turn increases rotor current,

resulting in a higher torque for increase load demands.

Wound rotor.

The rotor is a cylindrical core made of steel lamination with slots to hold the wires for

its 3-phase windings which are evenly spaced at 120 electrical degrees apart and connected

in a star configuration.

The rotor winding terminals are brought out and attached to the three slips rings with

brushes, on the shaft of the rotor.

Brushes on the slip rings allow for external three-phase resistors to be connected in series

to the rotor windings for providing speed control.

Characteristics of Wound rotor.

This rotor operates at constant speed and has lower starting current.

External resistance added to rotor circuit, increases starting torque.

Motor running efficiency improves as external resistance is reduced when motor speed up.

Higher torque and speed control.

Salient pole rotor.

The rotor is a large magnet with poles constructed of steel lamination projecting out of the

rotor's core.

The poles are supplied by direct current or magnetized by permanent magnets.

The armature with a three-phase winding is attached to three slip rings with brushes

riding on them and mounted on the shaft.

The field winding is wound on the rotor which produces the magnetic field and the armature

winding is on the stator where voltage is induced.

Direct current from an external exciter or from a diode bridge mounted on the rotor shaft,

produces a magnetic field and energizes the rotating field windings and alternating current

energizes the armature windings simultaneously.

Characteristics of Salient pole rotor.

This rotor operates at a speed below 1500 revolutions per minute and 40% of its rated

torque without excitation.

It has a large diameter and short axial length.

Air gap is non uniform.

Rotor has low mechanical strength.

Cylindrical rotor.

The cylindrical shaped rotor is made of a solid steel shaft with slots running along

the outside length of the cylinder for holding the field windings of the rotor which are

laminated copper bars inserted into the slots and is secured by wedges.

The slots are insulated from the windings and are held at the end of the rotor by slip

rings.

An external direct current source is connected to the concentrically mounted slip rings with

brushes running along the rings.

The brushes make electrical contact with the rotating slip rings.

DC current is also supplied through brushless excitation from a rectifier mounted on the

machine shaft that converts alternating current to direct current.

Characteristics of Cylindrical rotor.

The rotor operates at speed between 1500 to 3000 RPM.

It has strong mechanical strength.

Air gap is uniform.

Its diameter is small and has a large axial length and requires a higher torque than salient

pole rotor.

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs OnePlus 3T Camera Comparison - Duration: 3:54.

Hey guys its Sagar from Tecworkz.

In my camera review of the Galaxy S8, I called it the best camera on any smartphone in the

market right now.

In this video, we will try to find out, where does the camera of the OnePlus 3T stand, in

comparison.

I know the OnePlus 5 has already hit the market with its fancy dual camera setup.

We have it in the studio, and I am working on its camera review and comparison with the

S8, as you guys are watching this video.

But until that video comes out, let us see how does the camera of the OnePlus 3T hold

up against that of the S8.

Now before we get started, make sure you hit the subscribe button, so you don't miss out

on any of the amazing videos coming up on this channel.

On the S8, You get a 12 Megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, Optical Image Stabilisation

and single LED flash.

Whereas, The OnePlus 3T has a 16megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, Optical image

stabilisation and single LED flash.

At the front, you have a 8 megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture on the S8, and 16 megapixel

camera with f/2.0 aperture on the OnePlus 3T.

The camera module on the S8 is almost flushed in with the back of the phone, but the one

on the 3T sticks out quite a lot.

Interface of the camera app is pretty simple and intuitive on both these devices.

Both the phones offer to capture RAW images and have manual controls, so you can have

better control over the images that you take.

Now lets get to the images and videos that I took with these smartphones.

All the images have been shot in auto mode with auto HDR turned on.

Right from the first image, you can see that the S8 takes detailed, sharper images with

better contrast.

Overall images from the 3T are also pleasant to look at, but the better processing on the

S8 makes its images stand out.

Colours on from the S8 are more saturated of the two, and depending on your preference,

you might like it or you might not.

S8 has captured more light in this image thanks to its wide aperture, and as we zoom in, you

can see lot more noise in the image from the OnePlus 3T.

Here is a quick test between focusing speed of these devices.

OnePlus does a good job while switching its focus from near to distant objects, but the

S8 is even better.

Focusing is faster and a lot smoother to look at, which is important if you plan on taking

lot of videos with your smartphone.

Now here are some close up shots.

Ones from the S8 are brighter and slightly more detailed, but the ones from the OnePlus

3T are equally good to look at.

3T starts to struggle a bit in lower lighting situations, where it captures more noise than

the S8.

As we start shooting in lower lighting situations, S8 starts to pull way ahead.

3T sometimes even struggle to latch on focus in these situations.

This image from the S8 looks so much better and richer, zooming in, we can even see the

text being much sharper in its images, compared to the one shot on the OnePlus 3T.

The 16 megapixel front facing camera of the 3T takes more detailed images, when compared

to the 8 megapixel camera of the S8.

Now coming to the video performance.

Both can shoot videos in upto 4k resolution at 30fps, and have optical image stabilisation,

but the video from the S8 is much better.

As you can see, the video from the 3T is not very stable.

It's not at all bad, but I expect better results from cameras with Optical image stabilisation

built in.

The 3T has another problem of continuously hunting for focus, which is really annoying

at times.

The camera of the OnePlus 3T seems to lack far behind in this comparison, But it can

certainly take good pictures in ample lighting conditions.

And on its own, the OnePlus 3T has a great camera at its price range.

If you are looking to make a decision between these smartphones, based on their camera performance,

you should definitely go with the Samsung Galaxy S8, if you have the budget for it.

If you don't have that kind money to spend on a smartphone, but still want a great phone

with a good camera, go for the OnePlus 3T, if it is still selling in your country.

OnePlus 5 has already hit the market, with improved dual camera setup, and I hope it

stands a better chance against the S8.

At The Tate Modern, Art And Play | The Daily 360 | The New York Times - Duration: 3:21.

It is inspired by the ancient quipu idea of talking knots,

which was how the Incans recorded history.

The visitor would come into the room at first unsure of how to

interact with these ropes.

But as soon as they knew that they could touch these ropes,

that they could feel them, that they could throw them around,

everything changed. It was like their bodies became part of the work.

There was a kind of childish delight in moving through the space.

The first thing you encounter is the smell. It was this earthy, loamy smell.

Lewis had filled the entire foyer with couches and this

explosion of house plants that were almost aggressive in nature.

At times it was unclear who was part of the work and who was a visitor,

who was a dancer and who was just there to see what was going on.

I'm not sure the distinction mattered.

"Anywhen" resisted description. Hashtag, you had to be there.

An amalgamation of video footage, of ventriloquism,

cuttlefish and cityscapes, a manic marquee sign,

a graceful beacon lamp that slid the length of the space,

a motley assortment of inflatable fish and a plethora of tiny speakers.

No two moments were the same, and here was the kicker,

this whole universe was controlled by a jar of yeast,

the sounds of the museum and an algorithm.

Sounds complicated? Good. It was.

"London Fog" felt at once minimal and complex.

There was a sort of profound dialogue between the elements

and the artists, between museum and the city around it.

Around me, the fog was changing with the breeze.

It rose up and twisted, obscuring the world beyond.

For a moment, I was trapped in a cocoon, completely transported.

And then the mist broke, and I was standing next to a

museum inside a great and beautiful city.

There's so many different ways to move through the museum.

You can use it as a thoroughfare, as a picnic spot

as a place to declare your love, as a place to fall asleep.

A museum needs to contain all of these spaces.

In a way a city should be designed like a museum.

Places for collision, places for thinking,

places for commerce, places for art-making.

A city and a museum should not be all that different.

Top 5 Things to Do in the Destiny 2 Beta - Duration: 2:44.

Early access to the Destiny 2 beta starts today, at least on PlayStation 4, so if you've

got a code or you pre-ordered, you should be ready to play when the gates open up at

10am PT, 1pm ET, and 5pm GMT.

If you haven't got a code, and didn't bother pre-ordering, you'll have to wait

for the open beta, which kicks off on Friday 21st.

So once you have access, what should you do?

Well, the Destiny 2 beta boasts quite a lot of content, and it's important that you

see all of it.

To help guide you, we've put together this video.

I'm Mack, for PlayStation LifeStyle, here with the top 5 things to do in the Destiny

2 beta.

Remember the epic Destiny 2 gameplay reveal that we saw back in May?

Well, you'll be able to experience that opening story mission for yourself in the

beta!

Start in the Tower, the social space that your Guardian has been calling home for years

now, and fight to defend it from the Cabal "Red Legion."

Team up with the Vanguards as they do all they can to survive and protect Earth's

last safe city.

The new three-player cooperative strike, called "The Inverted Spire," is also playable

in the beta.

Grab two friends, or matchmake with other players, and go up against the Cabal and Vex

on Nessus.

Beat the boss to complete the strike and get some of that sweet new loot!

Even if you're primarily a Destiny PvE player, Destiny 2's PvP portion is definitely worth

checking out.

Some big changes have been made, including a reduction from a 6v6 player count, to less

chaotic 4v4 matchups.

There will be two modes to play and two maps to play on in the beta.

The Control game type makes a return, along with a new attack and defend Countdown mode.

As for maps, players will be able to check out Vostok and Endless Vale.

The Farm is a new Destiny 2 social space that you'll be able to visit in the beta.

The reason it's so high on our list today, is because it will only be available for a

short period of time.

On Sunday July 23rd at 10am PT, 1pm ET, and 5pm GMT, The Farm will be accessible for one

hour, and one hour only!

So be online and be ready!

It's going to be one hell of a stress test, so try and keep your patience!

Though you may well have your favorite from the original game, we urge you to invest time

giving all three classes a go during the beta.

With new abilities and subclasses, each class should feel different.

Then there's the new weapon categories: Kinetic, Energy, and Power.

The big addition here is the Power weapons, which are extremely lethal and fantastic fun

to use.
