Welcome to Part 1 of the first annual End of the Year Game of the Year awards here on
the Backlog Battle YouTube Channel!
The EOTYGOTY awards have been going on for several years now on the Backlog Battle Podcast
- available on iTunes, Spotify, PLEX, Stitcher, and Google Play, by the way - and I wanted
to bring a version of this award show to YouTube!
For our inaugural awards, we're celebrating the EOTYGOTY in two parts.
Part 2, which will be released New Year's Eve, will feature all the games that have
made my Game of the Year list.
This video, Part 1, will feature categories that me and my podcast co-host Daniel have
made up to celebrate this occasion.
The games considered for these categories cover any games I've talked about on YouTube,
as well as spoken about on the podcast released in 2018.
This ultimately leads up to the first ever Backlog Battle Community Choice Award, which
is an award given to a game voted for by the Backlog Battle community!
I've always wanted to give the community a voice whenever Awards season comes around,

Let's get the ball rolling for the End of the Year Game of the Year 2018!
Most Satisfying Yakuza Heat Move
Across the entire 7 game history of the Yakuza games, we've seen some really gnarly heat
moves… but none as funny or as satisfying to me (or even, perhaps, its victims) as the
Essence of Sadomasochism from Yakuza Kiwami 2!
Featured as one of the available NPC assist heat actions, you can unlock this by completing
a sidequest from a certain dominatrix in Sotenbori.
I always try to trigger this every opportunity I get, even going so far as to kite enemies
for lengthy periods of time just so I can set them up for this heat move!
Most Satisfying Animation
If you follow me on Twitter @mybacklogbattle, you probably have come across me retweeting
a lengthy article talking about how much time it took Sony Santa Monica to perfect the feel
of throwing and receiving Kratos' axe in the new God of War.
It seems simple, but the small tweaks the devs have made to this often seen animation
never felt old for me, and I somehow subconsciously feel that axe's impact on Kratos' hand
every time he catches it.
That says a lot!
Biggest Disappointment
With all the rage happening with Fallout 76 recently, I just felt that picking that game
would've been too easy.
And so, I picked one that I would like us all to remember...
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT
This game should've been a hit!
The graphics were not only stellar, as expected for a Square Enix game, but the game was made
by Koei Tecmo's Team Ninja.
Given their work with the Dead or Alive series, surely this would've been a really good
fighting game, right?
The reality was that game went far beyond fighting game conventions that it made the
game very difficult to understand.
Nowadays, it's easy to find the game for $13 new.
Such a disappointment.
Most Memorable Moment
Imagine thinking about what you should be putting in this category, figuring out what
it is, then realizing after you looked through all the footage you've recorded of Monster
Hunter World that you've never once recorded yourself fighting Nergigante and you have
to do that just for this video!
A sense of dread quickly enveloped me as I fired up the game to capture the footage of
myself trying to fell said beast, trying to remember everything I knew about my target.
It's these feelings that makes fighting Nergigante such a huge moment for me in 2018!
Best Story
The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio went nuts this year, releasing not one, but THREE games!
That said, which one did you think I'd pick?
Yep, it's one of the two Dad simulators released in April: Yakuza 6: The Song of Life!
While Yakuza Kiwami 2's story was a retelling of one of the more beloved storylines in series
history, and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise's story was… well, compromised
by weird narrative decisions on where to place it in the manga's timeline, Yakuza 6 did
the best job it could to wrap up Kiryu's story to the best of its ability.
It's not perfect by any means, and frankly, I would've appreciated more time with series
regulars, but the story they've told made me remember Kiryu's entire journey to that
point, ultimately acknowledging that Kiryu had absolutely nothing more to prove by the
end of the game.
Arigatou, Kiryu-san!
Best Music
Tetris Effect.
It shouldn't come as a surprise, given that I praised Tetris Effect's music in my review
of the game, and I'm still playing it to this day.
In fact, I've probably played Tetris Effect the most regularly out of any game that's
come out this Fall, and I don't foresee that changing any time soon!
Best Combat
I love nuanced mechanics in my combat, so while Yakuza is near and dear to my heart,
God of War wins this category for me.
I should probably point out that beyond the game's trailers, there's a few surprises
here and there that expand the game's combat beyond what you start the game with, and swapping
certain moves in lieu of another adds an interesting layer of experimentation to the combat that
God of War never had before.
Best of all, it tries to streamline things so that you don't have to memorize long
combo strings!
Mind you, I love games that have those long combos, but Devil May Cry 5 didn't come
out this year, did it?
Best Boss Fight
There have been a few boss fights I've played in the past that not only contained fun challenges
to overcome, but also tried to tell stories in unique ways.
The fight in Castrum Fluminis with Tsukuyomi in Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood was a blend
of tragedy and symbolism, as the arena and the song that played were filled with hidden
meaning.
Top that off with an interlude that not only built up to the ultimate version of the boss,
but also delivered some dramatic moments representing the victim's subconscious, and you have
a fight that's charged with great moments and great storytelling!
Now, for the rest of you, don't spoil the story!

Ask A Zookeeper - Autocomplete Bird Questions #4 - Duration: 7:18.
Welcome to another Ask a Zookeeper Autocomplete Questions.
This is where we go out to the internet and ask "What do people want to know about birds?"
and answer those questions.
So today we're going to answer some of the internet's more philosophical questions.
We'll start with the base, "Why do birds..." and figure it out from there!
"Why do birds add paper to their feathers?"
I didn't know this.. let's find out.
Really...
huh.
Well I learned something new today!
Apparently birds will add paper to their tails as decoration but then also to carry nesting
material back to their nest.
So it's a natural behavior... well, not paper, but they would use natural things... but they
totally just put paper in their feathers!
I had no idea!

"Why do birds always attack me?"
Aww.
I'm sure it's nothing personal.
I'm sorry you're experiencing that though.
That's sad.
"Why do birds build nests?"
Probably it's as simple as, they need somewhere to put their eggs that's away from predators.
If they can get it off the ground and up in a tree or up on a cliff face where predators
can't get at the eggs, then they will have more successful egg hatching.
"Why do birds come back north?"
Why DO birds come back north?
I mean, if migrating is worth making the trip for, why wouldn't they just stay down there?
The reason is that during the summer in the north, there's a few short months where everything
has to go through its whole life cycle.
The days are really long, so there's lots of food available, lots of plant life, lots
of bugs, and therefore, it's worth it to fly thousands of miles all the way up from the
equatorial regions all the way up to the north, and just gorge for the entire summer and go
back down before it gets too cold.
The best question so far is, "Why do birds fly back north?"
If south is so great, why do they come back?
[chuckles] It's a good question!
"Why do birds have hollow bones?"
It helps them fly!
The less weight they have to carry up into the air, the better they're able to survive!
"Why do birds have different beaks?"
I made a couple of videos about this, but in general if a bird accesses a food source
that other birds can't get to, it can get calories that other birds cannot, and its
beak will gradually grow more specialized towards getting that food source.
A couple of examples: there's the hummingbird that has a tubular beak specialized for getting
nectar out of flowers.
Then there's the toucan that has a long, curved bill.
It's for reaching fruit way out on the end of a branch where the other birds can't get
at it.
"Why do birds jump off buildings?"
Because they can!
Wouldn't you, if you could fly?
I would.
"Why do birds kiss?"
There's something going on that you're not aware of!
If a bird sees another bird that it thinks is special, and wants to share its delicious
meal that it just had, it will go up and offer its beak.
The other bird accepts by putting its beak into place and they will regurgitate food
and the other bird will eat it.
That is how they let each other know that they are real special.
So when you see two birds "kissing", one of them is regurgitating food and the other one
is eating it.
"Why do birds excrete uric acid?"
This is a good question, but I have to give you some background information before you
can TRULY appreciate it.
Uric acid is the end product of digesting protein.
In humans, we produce urea, that's what comes out in your urine, but in birds they produce
uric acid.
It takes some extra energy and it has exactly one benefit...
Well, one benefit I'm aware of.
The benefit is that at high concentrations uric acid is less toxic than urea.
Why does this matter?
Because if a bird spends part of its life sealed inside a container (which it does,
we call this an egg) the uric acid can build up inside of that egg and it won't kill the
chick as it develops.
So, why do birds excrete uric acid?
It's because they lay eggs!
And if you need additional proof as to why this is the case, what other animals lay eggs?
Reptiles also excrete uric acid.
And mammals that lay eggs, the platypus and echidna, both ALSO produce uric acid!
So there's why birds excrete uric acid.
It's because they live inside eggs for part of their lives.
And now you know something about every animal that lays eggs!
"Why do birds like shiny things?"
Don't you like shiny things?
I like shiny things.
I think all of us like shiny things.
"Why do birds of a feather flock together?"
It's probably a survival strategy, that birds in a big group... two benefits, one is that
they can keep an eye out for predators.
Some of them will always be looking while others are foraging, so it adds to safety
and alertness.
As soon as one bird is startled, you'll notice all of them take off.
That's a safety mechanism.
Also, a benefit to travelling in a flock is that if there is a predator around, the odds
are that it will eat maybe one or two of the whole flock, and the rest of the flock will
be safe.
By overwhelming the predator's ability to eat you, you become safe as an individual
if not as a group.
"Why do birds suddenly appear?"
[Watches music video clip] They long to be close to you.
"Why do birds tweet?"

It lives in caves.
But in general, birds do not use echolocation.

Simplest way to measure Exhaust Port Timing on a Two Stroke Engine - Duration: 6:41.
greetings and welcome to my YouTube channel if you haven't been here before
my name's Dave and we're doing two stroke videos at the moment this is
following on from new two-stroke engine I bought with the aim of showing you how
to measure a couple of things on the engine and plug them into the software
for the purpose of making an expansion chamber what I'm going to show you today
is basically one method for measuring the exhaust port timing on the engine
there's two methods this method is if the engine is actually already assembled
as for the engine that I bought I've I'm in the process of pulling it apart a bit
there is some things that I want to show you with this engine there's some quite
serious issues but I'll cover that in another video but for now we'll just
stick to measuring the exhaust port timing and I'll show you how to do that
so the first thing we need to do with their engine is I've taken off the
covers here the port type cover and I've taken off the clutch bell cover we've
got an exhaust on it and an exhaust header take the header off and the
flange off so you can get it as close into the port because we're gonna look
inside there and take a bolt out of one side whichever side you prefer but I've
taken this side out and what we'll do is we'll actually bolt a degree wheel to
this side of the engine and then we'll put a little pointer on there so for
this we need to avail ourselves of a degree wheel
if you google printable degree wheels this is a metal degree wheel
a paper one will do for this job and you need to get yourself a little bit of
wire and make a little point on the end because we're going to clamp to some of
the engine and we're going to actually use that as a pointer but you can go and
get yourself a printable one from Google print it out on paper
just has to have 360 degrees marked out okay
you can put it in some laminate and snip it out so it's a little bit firmer put
it on cardboard whichever you like we take a degree well I've got a bolt it's
a little bit longer and put it on this washer so we can just screw it on to the
crank and just get that around about the center mark terribly critical and the
other thing we need is our little pointer so what I'm gonna do is I'm just
going to clamp this to the casing under normal circumstances when you're
using a degree wheel there's a procedure you could what this procedure is is for
getting absolute top dead center but for this purpose we don't need to do that
because what we're doing is we are actually measuring the degrees in
duration that the exhaust port is opening for and that's all we need to
measure so first of all we get the piston so the piston crown the very top
of the piston is in the same position as the top of the exhaust port
at the cylinder not out here inside the cylinder that will be our zero point so
what we do is just hold the engine there just turn around our degree we'll give
it a little snug up there and tighten that up just recheck it fine-tune to the
bit and you can just bend your little your little pointer there so once your
pointer is on zero and the piston is just at the top of the exhaust port the
top of the piston is level with the top of the exhaust port we turn the engine
over during the open not the close period so the Pistons
going down and we look inside or we look inside our port either way and then we
bring it back up until the piston comes up and again from bottom dead center
moving upwards meets the top of the port again so take that as your opening
period take it all the way down and then past bottom dead center and then up
again until the port just closes so now we know now open period is from zero
here all the way around to here now if your degree will has 360 degrees marked
fine just count off the number of degrees this one's separated into
90-degree sectors so I can just go 90 degrees 100 110 120 130 140 150 154 so
now I know that the exhaust port open period is 154 degrees and that is the
figure that I used to plug into the software for all intents and purposes in
the software the calculating tuned length all we need to know is how long
is the exhaust port open for so that's the simplest way to do it and again this
can be done with the engine assembled and all you've got to do is take one
bolt out of the crank side here take the plug out so that you can have a look
inside just makes it easier to turn it over and take your exhaust port off so
you can have a look inside the port so that's as simple as it is to get our
exhaust port open period or exhaust port timing to using the software in the case
of this one 154 degrees is the exhaust port timing which is amazingly low I
actually went and measured the transfer timing too and it's only 104 degrees but
I will talk about that later with a number of other issues with this engine
that's not what you would usually find an exhaust port timing his or
support timing would moodily be in the range of anything from say 175 degrees
to up to 200 200 degrees that there abouts depending on the engine you've
got so the next video I'm going to pull apart the engine more and the next video
I'm actually going to show you another method for measuring the exhaust port
timing which you can do when the actual engine is disassembled and that will do
it for today I will get the next video done ASAP

really so a good idea is to either remove links to these pages from his
main home page or use nofollow and as links nofollow tells the search engines
not to bother exploring through this link and means they can direct their
attention to more important pages but blocking off these three unimportant
pages the website owner can increase the amount of PageRank flowing to us more

probably want these pages indexed eventually so it's a good idea to link
to them from one of your less important pages it's just a way of telling the
