all right here we go what's up guys I'm Ben from authentech this is my buddy Nick
and we're doing a little table talk today about what's up guys I'm Ben from
authentic and today I got my buddy Nick on camera inset and we're gonna be
talking about the future of smart watches and are they dead so it's funny
I actually started out a lot of my youtube career making smart watch video
reviews Nick was helping me with those and I'm really intrigued on what Nick
has to say because he's buying them all the time and I want to hear from you
guys I took a poll make sure you're following me on my Instagram in case
you're not already on what you guys think the future of smart watches are I
think those initial smart watches really kind of jump-started the market I think
it was where OS Android wear that came out first kind of brought that
notifications to your wrist at that point we didn't have GPS or music or any
of these other fancy features we have right now but they were kind of first to
the market a lot of square faces those were those two that we did yes right off
that was a Samsung and LG right but then you had this separate line of wearables
at that time right so you had the though Android wear I think it was called back
then that was called wear OS and then you had some of the fitness trackers so
Fitbit some of those guys has their own things and they kind of had their own
category and did their own things yeah then Apple came to the market with
their eye watch nice right and that's what kind of melded Apple watch I think
it's good naming and that kind of mended the the fitness side to just the regular
notifications and other stuff money together and they did a great job
obviously apples so big and so cool everyone wanted those new watches so
even if they didn't really need it or see a huge huge use for it it was still
kind of the thing to have for a while and I think yeah Apple coming to the
market has really kind of jump-started and challenged Android to bring up their
stuff obviously their Apple products so they're pretty expensive yeah some of
the other watches like the what I have here the fossil Gen 4
explores HR I think MSRP ends like 300 I got it used but that's around the
ballpark of the Apple watches as well Apple watches that they have a big size
smaller size so it kind of depends what you want to get as to what you'll spend
there they've definitely stuck to their square form factor though and I don't
know if they have plans to go to a round circle or anything yeah I personally
like the design of just a natural circle watch I feel like that's how the offer
ages and I'm surprised that Apple is still stuck with that rectangle semi
cracker I've heard the argument that it's the best use of screen real estate
which is true I mean you can push stuff out to the edges on the circle more but
then the text has to kind of rap for me though like you said it's the
traditional circle I've worn watches before smart watches so it definitely I
prefer it over a square watch so looking back smart watches I felt like had a big
upward trends they were super hot Samsung LG they were all trying to get
into it like you said Fitbit and then all sudden things kind of teared off
looking ahead do you think with that new Google pixel
watch and things things will start to pick back up yeah I think I don't know
if everyone's heard but Google bought a big chunk of fossils SmartWatch side and
yes I believe even their engineers and stuff are coming over to Google to help
work on stuff for Google so obviously Google's been kind of quiet for a while
with their their hardware they don't have any watch hardware and even Android
wear OS has been had updates here and there yeah but now they're definitely
making a push I think they're gearing up to fight Apple fossil has some really
really awesome watches and really happy with the one I have here really excited
to see what Google can come up with for a pixel watch maybe something that's can
finally fight off that Apple watch so it's running where OS Android yeah so
they now call it where OS it has the latest updates on it okay I also have
the LG sport watch that's what I started out on when I got back into smartwatches
I started doing a lot of running and it was completely game-changing being able
to put my music sync my Bluetooth earbuds to it I'm be able to walk run
and track my run and listen to music all with just sync to my watch it was really
some eventually went to the fossil just because it runs a little quicker I've
noticed a pretty big difference there I still wear them both here and there
depending on the day but now the fossil is what you have on
right now it looks super classy and professional which I feel like watches
for men always kind of had that look it's cool and interesting to see the
worlds of like old watches mix with new technology I reviewed that Casio if you
guys remember that one that was super cool because it wasn't full-on Smart
Watch but it could integrate a few smart features from your phone to a Casio
classy watch yeah Smart Watch has definitely come really far from what we
use they're a lot thinner now battery life is so much better lasts all day
even on the IV use it's true so I can just charge it overnight
no more flat tire the always-on display is kind of a game breaker for me if I
don't have it so that's one thing too I looked into the Apple watch cos fitness
tracking features are so much better but the fact that you can't have the display
always-on just kills me so I don't want to have someone say hey what time is is
it and then I'm check-in I'm check-in and it's not coming on with my Android
we're always on my hand could be on the desk and I can just glance down and see
the time so yes they did a really really good job with that part with the OLED
technology now too they can have just the pixels lit up for the time which I
assume is why they're no longer a battery consumption problems exactly
okay so the current state that we're at we have these high-end
LG Samsung Apple smartwatches we've got these fitbit's that are somewhere in the
middle but then an emerging market well it's been around for a little while are
these super budget-friendly smartwatches those are super cool there's a few that
I found on Amazon that are super hot sellers
there's the bingo fit the x/z h1 they're coming in around 30 ish dollars they
have the activity trackers they have phone notifications and for 30 bucks
that's super cheap compared to a multi-hundred dollar SmartWatch now how
do they compare you guys let me know down in the comments if you want to see
an in-depth review or comparison video now there's also those
fit want Nick you told me about it tell me what you know yep so no this is a
amaze fit watched been really popular online and gadget life hacker I think
picked it up it's got like 30 day battery life so it's always on display
it has its own app for doing notifications that claims have GPS
I haven't dug into it too much to see what all it can track and do I just know
it has some really really good reviews all for something that's less than $100
yeah this one comes in 67 bucks right now on prime again you guys let me know
down in the comments if you want to see an in-depth review on one of these I
think that'd be really interesting I think maybe that big gap in the market
that wants to tinker with a SmartWatch but they don't want to spend hundreds
this could be a perfect middle fit yeah absolutely I mean if it has GPS I'd be
fun to pick that against like a where OS device maybe I'm an Apple watch and
compare I mean it's a fraction of the cost real quick tell us what the GPS
does in the smart so GPS at least how I have used it can track your any of your
activities outside so I'm going for a run I'm going for a bike ride in a car
anything where you're apart from your smartphone it can do its own GPS
location yes so it's more than just a pedometer tracking steps right yep and a
pedometer is really inaccurate so if you're going for a four mile run you get
back it's just counting those steps and estimating with GPS you have actual
location data on where you ran okay sweet so now looking forward to the
future Google just bought some of the IP from fossil that's the one that you're
actually wearing now what do you think Google is working on yeah as we
mentioned before it they're definitely gearing up to put out a pixel watch it
was rumored that I believe at end of 2018 they were gonna release some type
of pixel watch and their big release keynote unfortunately they never did
probably because they're but they bought fossil and now they want to try to get
something out that's different I think plenty of the fossil watches
already could be pretty good competitors to the Apple watch but given Google's
now join them I'm really hoping for something awesome to come out that's
awesome I'm super excited to see what Google pixel watch would look like and I
think 2019 might be the year so let's real quick cover what are the benefits
and features of a SmartWatch who is the audience for that sort of product yeah
so as you've said before you used to a SmartWatch yeah and no longer deem it
necessary to have one I think there's kind of two different categories of
people there's the the health nuts that want to track every step they do they
want to track their workouts and anything else apples watch now can do I
think an echocardiogram or some things yeah that's pretty fun of that more
advanced stuff but then you have people that just want those notifications on
their wrist so people that work in a business or maybe a law firm and don't
want to be checking their phone when they get a notification but they could
get something important they can just glance at their wrist and move on just
the idea of not having to pull out your phone from your pocket or wherever it's
at and have at your wrist always glanceable notifications phone calls tax
emails and as for a big thought here I don't think smart watches are going away
and I don't think they're dead do you agree I completely agree yeah
real quick I took a poll from you guys on my Instagram YouTube and Twitter make
sure you followed me there I want to ask you guys do any of you wear smart
watches or do you have one but don't wear it anymore and then do you not have
a smart watch and I was really intrigued by the split 55% of you said no you
either don't have one or you're not into them 32 we actually wear them so a third
of people still have smart watches out there I thought that was really
interesting so you guys let me know down in the comments what sort of reviews or
in-depth videos you want to see on specific watches like the Amaze fit or
that $30 cheapy on Amazon but it has thousands of reviews that could be
really interesting let me know down below also you guys let me know if you
like this sort of more casual table talk like video let me know give me a thumbs
up and comment below now thank you so much Nick for coming us thank you guys
for watching subscribe and like if you haven't already and until next time
let's live authentic Cheers okay thanks man what do you think we got
good
