Happy new year and welcome back to Ardor Updates – I'm your host, CryptoDemetrius.
Thanks for joining.
This month, we'll be focusing on general updates from around the community, as well
as those specific to Jelurida.
First though, take a quick moment to like this video and subscribe to the Ardor channel
to get notifications of future updates.
Also, remember to check this video description for links to help you continue learning more
about the topics in each update.
As always, this video was sponsored by Jelurida.
Major network upgrades successfully activated on the Ardor mainnet on the 9th of January
after users and exchanges made the mandatory upgrade to Ardor version 2.2.1.
Developers now have access to Turing-complete lightweight smart contracts, which are coded
in Java and allow businesses to automate their legacy databases to interface with the Ardor
blockchain.
Additionally, tracking complex supply chains just got easier with asset properties for
linking name and value metadata.
A day later on the 10th of January, Max Property Group distributed the main net MPG tokens
for their Max Crowdfund child chain.
This is the 4th child chain to activate on the Ardor platform and it offers verified
users the ability to transparently invest in real estate properties that are primarily
based in Europe.
These exciting developments were followed by the release of Ardor version 2.2.2, which
is an optional upgrade offering additional smart contract optimizations and several bug
fixes.
In case you missed it: An introductory course for creating Lightweight Smart Contracts on
the Ardor platform is available on Udemy thanks to instructor Eric Funk.
Community member Patoshi has released an AR Notes Chrome extension for through the Chrome
Web Store.
Give the extension a try and see what it is like to record censorship resistant notes
as an additional layer on top of any existing web page.
Researchers recently put out a report detailing a catastrophic attack vector on proof of stake
coins called "Fake Stake," and many proof of work maximalists prematurely cheered the
collapse of PoS.
When reviewed more closely, it's clear the attack is only possible on PoS networks based
on bitcoin's code base like PeerCoin.
Nxt's consensus, which is the basis of Ardor's consensus, was coded from scratch in Java
and is not susceptible to these attacks.
If you are new to the Ardor platform, it's easy to experience information overload.
The Ardor Learning Hub does a great job, but a picture is worth a thousand words.
Community member Shugo has been running an ongoing series of #ArdorInsights images with
easy to digest sound bites to help you understand the key advantages of Ardor.
Help spread these images far and wide as a new entry point for learning about the platform.
It's also getting easier and easier to get access Ardor on your mobile device.
Last month, mrv777 announced updates to the Ardor Lite Android wallet – and now he has
announced that testing has open for iOS users to provide feedback on the Ardor Lite app
on iPhones.
MRV777 also made some original Ardor tshirts available for sale through the Ignis marketplace
and a few have already flown off the shelf and are on their way to eager early adopters.
Ardor Blockchain as a Service stickers have been added to the Ardor Nxt Zazzle Store – head
over to the store for all your Ardor and Nxt gear.
Original artwork is also being delivered to the participants in the art auction run on
the Ignis child chain by Tarasca in December.
The company has also been teasing images of their digital cards for their forthcoming
game series.
Elizabeth @TheCryptoWoman announced new board members have joined Ardor Nxt Group – and
while they may be new to the board, these are familiar faces from around the community.
Congratulations to everyone and best of luck.
In the last few minutes here, let's focus on updates from Jelurida.
Jelurida recently began sharing the team's core achievements each week through a new
series of Weekly Wins.
Check out the posts on Jelurida's website and help spread the word!
Adedayo has been hard at work planning hackathons in Nigeria that will take place once nationwide
strikes come to an end.
Veronica Torras is providing mentorship to startups participating in the LongHash Hatch
12-week blockchain incubator in Singapore.
And Francisco and Alberto were on site at ISDI Barcelona for the third time to discuss
Ardor's technology with the school's Master of Internet Business students.
I've also been brought on by Jelurida to provide extensive consulting services to support
the team's educational and marketing efforts
in this capacity, I visited NYC to hold initial discussions with community members to explore
the possibilities for expanding Ardor's influence in the big apple.
You may have heard about the untimely passing of the CEO of QuadrigaCX in Canada resulting
in $190 million of cryptocurrency being locked in an account that no one has the password
to.
Well, in addition to past articles on the dead man switch function that is available
for child chains on the Ardor platform – we learned this month through Lior Yaffe's
medium blog that an upcoming release of Ardor will feature Shamir Secret Sharing cryptography,
which offers an innovative form of making passwords themselves secure and redundant.
Perhaps more importantly though, a new forging rewards program was announced which gives
forgers on the Ardor network the chance to receive IGNIS in addition to the normal ARDR
transaction fees.
Forging accounts with larger balances, like exchanges, are asked to opt-out of receiving
the additional reward so as to encourage smaller stake holders to begin forging.
Upcoming changes will make this an opt-in only reward.
Based on the results and feedback, Jelurida will periodically consider updates to the
reward program.
Last for this month's updates, the winners of the Ardor online hackathon have been announced!
Congratulations to each of the winners.
In particular, it was really great to see video demonstrations and mock up user interfaces
for some of the top submissions.
$8000 of prize money is still available – and Jelurida intends to announce a new hackathon
challenge to award these remaining funds soon.
Thanks for tuning in to this month's Ardor Update.
Check out the Weekly Wins each Friday and I'll see you again next month.
Until then, please like this video and subscribe to the Ardor channel.
