Youtube daily Feb 13 2019

Even before he announced that he was going to be running for president in 2020 Senator

Cory Booker had a very real problem and that problem is that a lot of progressive's view

him as a very clear establishment pro corporate candidate.

And the evidence of that is basically exemplified in the best place with his ties to big Pharma.

Now Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey where a lot of these big pharma companies have their

headquarters, that's where their factories are.

He has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of his, you know, seemingly

short career from pharmaceutical companies.

You know, he's one of the top recipients, Cory booker.

It gets a lot of money from big Pharma.

And then not that long ago, booker was one of the Democrats who voted against the reimportation

of cheaper drugs from Canada.

He voted against a measure that could have given American citizens cheaper pharmaceuticals.

Since that vote happened and Cory booker received a ton of backlash, he's kind of changed his

tune, at least on paper.

You know, he's cosponsored legislation aimed at reducing drug prices here in the United

States.

He, you know, has been with Bernie Sanders talking about the need to lower prescription

drug prices.

Uh, he's pleasant.

He's not going to take corporate money for his 2020 campaign, but all of that and the

very short turnaround of it is still suspect.

And it should be because for a very long time, Cory booker, again, one of the top recipients,

a big pharma dollars voted against the reimportation measure on the basis that these drugs may

not be as safe, which he knew was a lie.

He knew it was a lie.

Canada in fact, oftentimes enacts a more vigorous testing standards than we do here in the United

States.

In fact, our testing standards here in the United States, our garbage cause most of them

are solely based on studies performed by the pharmaceutical company themselves, where they're

allowed to manipulate and phony up the data.

Then they submit it to the FDA.

The FDA doesn't do the testing themselves.

They do in some cases, but not all.

So yeah, I would go ahead and take my chances with a Canadian drug where they have stricter

standards and haven't had a republican government deregulating the hell out of the industry.

Then take my chances with American pharmaceutical companies.

But maybe that's beside the point here.

Cory Booker knew that and he lied about it and he used that as justification to vote

against that particular piece of legislation.

It was after this again that he, he kinda changed his tune.

He was confronted by progressive's.

They pushed him on the issue.

They held his feet to the fire and we have seen results.

We've seen a change in the talking points.

We've seen him change his stance.

We've seen him sponsor and cosponsor legislation, but it hasn't been long enough to determine

whether or not this reformation is genuine.

2020 folks, we cannot, we cannot repeat the mistakes of 2016 unless of course you want

four more years of Donald Trump and deregulation because that's how you get four more years

of Donald Trump and deregulation by putting up a mealy mouth centrist, moderate Democrat

who says one thing to their constituents but then does another to benefit corporations.

Cory Booker has not had this change of heart long enough for us to truly see if this is

who he is now or at the first sign of victory after he's got progressive's on his side as

he just immediately going to switch back.

Kind of like the Democrats with their new proposal of Medicare for more, not Medicare,

for all, just medicare for more, more people can have access to it.

Not all of you.

We're just going to read a let a few more people in.

To me that's kind of Cory booker.

That's where he stands right now.

He is a medicare for more, not a medicare for all.

Maybe you'll get there.

Maybe he'll come to the medicare for all, and I'm speaking metaphorically, not in terms

of supporting those policies.

You know, but we still have a long way to go.

And if Cory booker or any other of these Democrats who have been stigmatized with this establishment

label really want to get our votes, then they need to prove that these reformations are

genuine and that they really have come to the progressive side and that they're actually

going to do the things that they say they do.

And they're not going to let corporations water them down.

But until that happens, Cory booker still has a very real big Pharma problem.

Rather, whether it's real or imagined, we can see the history.

We see what he says now, and the truth is likely somewhere in between those two.

Verbs & Prepositions: WORK Plus Prepositions - English Vocabulary Word Lesson - Duration: 4:18.

Word Wednesday starts right now!

Hey guys! It's Michael here from Happy English and

it's time for another Word Wednesday vocabulary building lesson.

Today we're going to continue this month's theme of

verbs plus prepositions.

For this lesson, we're going to look at the verb work and

all of the different prepositions that go with work .

First we're going to listen to a story that has

these verbs and prepositions combinations in context.

After the story, I'm going to go through

and explain the meaning and usage

of each verb and preposition combination.

Are you ready?

Let's check it out.

Today, while I was working on some new YouTube

videos I was working with some new software.

I was a little surprised

because it was pretty easy to use.

You know I always get inspired when I'm

working here at the office.

As you may know, I've been working in international

education since 1994, but I've only been

working on YouTube videos for a few years.

And you know, since I post a lot of these lessons

on social media, sometimes

I wonder what it would be like

to work at a company like Twitter or LinkedIn or Facebook.

It must be interesting, but you know

there is nothing better than working for yourself.

Yeah, as I work on these lessons, I come up with

a lot of different thoughts.

OK! That's the story

and now let's check out the different combinations of

work and prepositions. \

We use WORK AT followed by a place or a task.

Jack works at the bank downtown.

The boss was working his desk all day.

I had a problem with my computer yesterday and

I was working at it for a couple of hours

until it was solved.

We can use WORK FOR followed by

a company a cause or a person.

Jack works for New York City finance downtow.

Jenny has been working for animal rights

since she was in college.

I heard Guy Kawasaki used to work for Steve Jobs.

Next, we use WORK IN followed by a field or an industry.

Jack works in finance.

I've been working in international education

for almost 25 years .

We use WORK ON followed by a task.

Jack works on finance reports for the bank.

I was working on my YouTube videos all morning.

We use WORK WITH followed by a tool

a body part or a person.

Freddy is a plumber so he works

with his hands.

Jack works with a computer and a financial calculator.

I worked with my uncle when I was in college

By the way, work out is a phrasal verb

and it means to exercise.

Danny works out at the health club on 53rd Street.

I need to work out but it's so difficult to get started.

Okay, that's it for today's Word Wednesday

vocabulary building lesson.

Keep in mind if you want

to remember these verb + preposition combinations

you need to take each one,

write it in a sentence that's true for you,

then memorize your sentences.

Thanks for watching.

Thanks for subscribing

and I'll catch you guys next time right here

at Happy English.

Meet Drawing and Painting student Alondra Ruiz Hernandez - Duration: 2:35.

(upbeat music)

Hi, my name is Alondra Ruiz Hernandez

and I'm a fourth year drawing and painting student.

I grew up in Mississauga

and I went to high school in Toronto,

study here at OCAD University.

My parents are from Mexico,

so that has had a great influence in my work.

The kind of thing that I've been focusing on in my thesis

is about being Mexican and being Canadian.

I think it's something that a lot of Canadians

can relate to is having a dual identity

where they feel they belong to both cultures

but also simultaneously not belonging to either

and being influenced by both.

Right now I'm working,

here's some studies that I have

and this is a painting that I've been working on

where I'm thinking about all of the influences

that I've had in my life and I'm looking at

Mexican surrealist painters, but I'm also looking at

the European canon of art as well

and being influenced by artists such as

here I'm looking at Caravaggio

and then here I'm also looking at the Group of Seven

and then I'm also looking at Mexican artisans' work,

trying to juxtapose the artisans

and high artwork with each other in this painting.

My experience at OCAD has been,

at the beginning it was a lot

of working with the fundamentals

and later in second year you start to have

a bit more freedom in exploring your concepts

and exploring different mediums.

And when you come into second year you start to learn

and take classes that are a bit more freeing

in different mediums and different things

that you can explore in your concept.

Also having immense amount of art history

and having that knowledge influence your work

and influence how you think about painting

and how you think about composition.

And even things like your brushstrokes

I feel like got very much more confident

and influenced by other artists

and being exposed to that history and that art.

If you're thinking about going to art school,

art school gives you a lot of tools

and a lot of ways to talk about and think about your artwork

and establish yourself as a contemporary artist.

And there's so much that you can learn from art

and there's so much that you can do with art.

It doesn't just lead to one pathway.

There's so many different things,

there's so many jobs that need a creative thinker.

There's so many lanes that you can explore as an artist.
