Uhhhhhhh...do you ever feel like the whole world needs your help?

So I'm an INFJ which is also called "The Counselor."
And it's very true to me because I'm always wanting to help and listen and mediate.
And I hurt when others hurt.
And the biggest thing is -- and we all know that I have addiction to reading Facebook comments --
is that Facebook shows you what people have commented on videos or on news articles.
So I see a video about addiction and it's just some person in their car talking about how addiction is a "choice."
And you just "choose" whether to do drugs or whatever.
And I see where someone I know has commented on it like, "Amen to that! It's definitely a choice!"
And just like...NOOOO!
Having worked for a company that makes education psychology and counseling materials, I feel pretty
confident that addiction is not a "choice" in the way that the video and the person on Facebook that I knew was making it out to be.
Addiction is a disease.
So there's this part of me that's like, I need to help this person understand. And like send them a private
Facebook message and cite sources and send them suggestions for books because this kind of thinking
and lack of empathy is very damaging.
Another example is that I saw a girl who really loves animals comment on a video about a dog that had been
left in an airport bathroom with a broken leg because the owner was apparently a victim of domestic abuse and
so couldn't afford the fee when she was kind of fleeing from that bad situation to take the dog with her.
And they commented that they hoped the owner would be beaten and left in a bathroom by the boyfriend
because of what they'd done to the dog.
Which is ironic because it's very likely that the owner had been beaten by the boyfriend in the past which is what
got this whole thing started!
I just...I just can't!
I'm such an empathetic person, like to the detriment of my mental health sometimes.
It takes very little for me to feel what others are feeling or at least to be able to imagine what someone who felt
like they needed to leave their dog in an airport bathroom to escape domestic abuse or you know,
why it would be difficult to kick an addiction.
But I can also feel the kind of anger or misunderstanding that the people who are commenting these kind of
misinformed things are also feeling.
It's part empathy and part logic and research, I guess.
But I don't think most people actually live this way.
Also, I suppose, why the idea of paying more for healthcare when you're healthy so that someone
who is not as healthy would be able to afford their premiums, is such a dividing topic in the U.S. right now.
I cannot be everyone's therapist.
No one's paying me, duh!
So I've been kind of drowning in my own empathy lately, and I wanted to make a little call out for people who are
like me, who also feel like they need to be everyone's therapist.
Hey! You're not alone! But also, don't let other people's lack of empathy drain you to the point of just feeling
kind of empty and not even really angry, just apathetic.
I know it's easy to do. I have been there.
Self-care is super important. You know, taking a step back from people who are draining you and you know,
lack the empathy so you're sort of having to be empathic for both of you.
Also, maybe putting away social media for a little while. I'm going on vacation later this month and I will have no
Internet, and I'm very excited about this. I'm scared! But I'm also like, "I could use not knowing what's happening on the web--the Interwebs for a little while. Yeah...
And also I would say making sure that you get a steady stream of positives. Like stories of human decency.
There are, you know, social media be useful in some ways because there are the stories of human decency
Don't read the comments on them because someone always has something nasty to say, but just watch
the video or read about it.
So what do you guys think? Have you struggled with overwhelming empathy? It seems like being empathetic
should be a good thing, and it is! But it also can just be too much in a world that is not really empathetic at all.

Adding Color to Shadows Using Gels - Duration: 6:28.
Jay P: Today we're going to talk about how to add color to the shadows using gels, not
the whole image, just the shadows.

Jay P.: Hi, this is J.B. Morgan, today on The Slanted Lens I've got Louise Houghton
here with me.
Louise: Hi Everyone.
Jay P.: She's got a fabulous British accent and we're going to use Louise to show you
four ways to add colors to the shadows using gels.
Louise: Is that going to make me look better or worse?
Jay P.: It's going to make you look fabulous.
So let's get started, see what we can do.
Part of what makes this works is we've got a one to four ratio here.
That is, we've got a pretty dark, deep shadow area on her face.
That gives us an area to light up with the gel.
It's going to give us that deep area to work with.
If this was a high-key shot, we have very little shadows, it's going to be more difficult
to show.
You can do it and it does show up in a certain way, but the deeper your shadows are the easier
it is to show your gels in that shadow area.
Number one, this is probably the easiest and the one I've used the most often because it's
just simple to set up and quick to do.
You take a white piece of foam core, you tape a large piece of gel on it and you push that
in as your fill card and what that does is bounce the color of the gel into the shadows
on the side of the face and gives you a nice colored fill light.
Louise: Does it make me look blue?
Jay P.: It could make you look blue, but just in the shadows.
Won't do anything on the side of your face, it's just where the shadow area is.
Louise: What else?
Jay P.: Okay Number two, number two is you do the very same process, but you put it on
a mirror.
And what that does is the mirror is such a strong, strong light source that when you
bring it in, it really gives you a hard, hard color of light on the side of their face.
And so, this is much more direct and much more aggressive, but it gives you a really
interesting look on the side of the face .
Louise: So, is it kind of like when you have a reflector which is gold on one side and
silver on the other, but it just gives you a color option instead?
Jay P.: It's very much like that, but you're using the mirror to bounce the light back
and it's going through the gel and will put whatever color you put on the mirror is now
going to light the side of the face.
When you bring that around, it's going to just effect the shadow areas and it's not
going to light the front of the face.
Number three, this one is what people think of most of the time.
And that is you simply take a light, put a gel on it and that now becomes a light that
just lights her from the side.
It's going to give you a rim light, it's going to give you a bit of a hair light depending
on how you place it.
Louise: So I'll get some nice cheekbones?
Jay P.: You're going to get some very nice cheekbones from the side, if we get it up
high enough.
Louise: Okay.
We're learning a thing or two here.
Jay P.: Number four.
Louise: Last, but my no means least.
Jay P.: By no means least.
Number four is, we simply take a soft box or an octodome, you put the gel inside the
octodome or the soft box, we're using a rectangular soft box, and you put that above the camera
or below the camera and you simply use that as a fill light.
Now this gives you an interesting look, it adds color to the shadows, it does effect
the color a little bit on the face, it gives you a sense of kind of crushed or dark blacks,
you just have to make sure you dial it back enough so it doesn't overpower the face or
create too much of a color issue with your skin tone.
This is the one I love to use the most because it adds that color to all of the shadows and
not selectively from one side or the other, it just adds onto all the shadows on the face.
Louise: With these different four ways of using the gels, is there a certain way that
you would use one of them for fashion photos and another one for more portraits or does
one blend well with one more than another?
Jay P.: That's a great question, that is a great question.
You know, I think the light at the camera is a very fashion kind of look because you'll
see that a lot of the time used to be able to add a little color to the shadows and all
those shadows on the face has kind of a gritty look, it looks like you crushed the blacks,
very good look.
You see a lot of time in portraiture, they'll use a light from behind with the gel on it
and it gives you that little rim light and that really gives a nice look for portraits,
add just a little bit of a hint of a color on the side and just use it as a hair light
around into the shadows, that's used a lot for portraiture.
I think the one where you bounce it in with just bringing the card in can be used for
just about anything because that one is kind of just taking what light's there and just
a little bit of color in the shadow side and a really pretty look.
So there you have it, four ways to add color to the shadows.
I found a couple of these interesting though, I thought that the mirror would have been
a lot more depth of color, would have been a lot brighter color, a lot heavier.
It really wasn't, it was almost the most subtle.
So the light bouncing of the mirror is just very subtle, where as the...
Louise: I was going to say the first one it's a lot colder, but it's nice, it's just a very
different image.
Jay P.: Very different image, but you were getting all that cold because you're flooding
the whole image with that cold, so it changes the skin tones as well a little bit.
So the gel we used today in this lesson comes from the photographic lighting kit from Roscoe,
it's number 375, cyan.
That's a great kit, it gives you a lot of different options for different blues and
reds and yellows.
You don't have to do this with just blue, you can do this with any color that you want
and that really depends on what you're photographing and how you want it to look.
So there's a look at four different ways to add color to the shadows and I hope you found
that interesting.

Jeep Wrangler Rugged Ridge Elite Tail Light Guards (2007-2017 JK) Review & Install - Duration: 4:14.
Now, these tail light guards are going to provide more protection than your average
tail light guard, in my opinion.
These are going to be a two-piece guard that completely encase your factory tail light,
again, being a little bit stronger.
However, the argument of a tail light guard transferring an impact into the tub, causing
a much more expensive repair, rather than just breaking a tail light is still in play
here.
So if you subscribe to that mentality, a tail light guard is not going to be for you.
Today, we're going to talk through the installation of these tail light guards, which is a pretty
simple one out of three-wrench install.
It is a little bit more involved than some of the other tail light guard installs, because
this is a two-piece guard.
But even so, you'll be able to get this done in under an hour and it's a very simple install.
But we'll talk more through that in just a second.
Now, because these are Rugged Ridge's new Elite Series of a tail light guard, these
are going to be a very high-quality material.
They're going to be a slightly different design visually than a lot of the other tail light
guards out there on the market.
They're also going to be a little bit more expensive.
So if you're willing to pay a little bit more for this design and for some additional protection,
these are going to be a good option.
So these tail light guards are going to be made of a cast aluminum material, as opposed
to the mild steel of a lot of the other tail light guards out there.
A lot of other tail light guards are just going to be sort of a bent piece of vertical
or horizontal [slats] that will get bolted or even 3M'ed onto your tail lights, and these
are going to be a lot more substantial.
Again, this is going to be a two-piece design.
So there's a section that goes behind that factory tail light.
Then, your tail light goes in the center, and then the outer piece gets bolted on that.
So you really are encasing all of that plastic in aluminum, which should in theory protect
that tail light a little bit better.
Because this is a three-piece design, there's a little bit more to the install.
But again, it's going to be very simple and Rugged Ridge includes everything you need.
So like I said before, the install of these tail light guards is going to be a pretty
simple one out of three-wrench install that you should be able to get done in less than
an hour.
The first step is going to be completely removing your tail lights from your Jeep.
So there are a couple of screws you'll have to remove, and then unplug the wiring harness
to get that tail light off of the Jeep.
Finally, there's a small piece of plastic trim from the back of the tail light that
you'll need to remove before you can go on with the rest of the install.
After that, you'll set the tail light on the back piece of your tail light guard.
Put the front piece of the tail light guard over top of that.
Go ahead and plug the tail light back into the Jeep, and put your tail light guard with
the tail light inside of it back into the tub.
You'll have to fit one side in first, and then the other side.
Finally, you'll use the hardware that's included in the kit to get everything bolted up.
Again, a little bit more involved than some of the other tail light guard installs, because
these are a little bit more substantial, but still something easy that anyone can do in
their driveway.
These tail light guards are going to run you right around $140, which is certainly going
to be more expensive than a lot of the other ones on the market.
However, a lot of the other tail light guards out there are just going to be an appearance
mod.
They're not going to offer any protection at all.
These will offer some protection to your tail light.
Now, again, whether you subscribe to the mentality that this is going to transfer damage into
the tub, or whether you think that these are going to offer protection is completely up
to you.
But these will definitely better help protect your plastic tail light than a lot of the
other guards on the market.
These are also going to be made of a higher-quality aluminum material, so you're not going to
end up with any rust like you would with a mild steel tail light guard.
So all of those things make them worth the additional cost in my opinion.
So if you're looking for a tail light guard as a standalone piece, or as a package of
light guards on your JK to set it apart from the pack, make it look a little bit different,
and also to protect your tail lights when you're on the trail, I think this is going
to be a very high-quality option.
It's going to be a little bit more expensive than some of the others, but I do like the
design and the higher-quality materials.
