Nissan's Alfonso Albaisa talks about the inspiration for Nissan IMx - Duration: 2:43.

It's the opening day of the event and we have a new booth for Nissan.

Now with electrification and autonomous driving and the general sense of technology,

we wanted that expressed.

So this theme about these screens that then have a semi-circle,

So this theme about these screens that then have a semi-circle, all digital,

all digital,

and then also Japanese craftsmanship together was the dominant thing.

To be honest, looks spectacular.

The technology is starting to define the visuals.

That's what's happening with the IMx.

It's our first crossover EV.

As designers, you know, how do you take this silent, effortless, freedom that EV gives you?

The shapes became simpler.

They became sheer, more architectural

but we keep this sense of dynamism which is part of this global technology that we have today.

This dynamic sense of the exterior that can move anywhere.

When you open the doors, you have serenity.

You have technology, you have peace, and the design reflects that.

Because as the customer is bringing information from the cloud,

connected to the smart cities,

the interior starts to be a support of that, not something that dominates.

The wood now, is digital

to assist with the blind spots.

so you're always aware of your environment

even on something that traditionally is a decorative item.

How to bring all of this in a super cocoon harmony was what we wanted to bring with the interior.

We all are wanting to bring a little bit of our roots, the character of the human into the design

to show who we are, how we got here and especially where we're going with all of this.

I think part of this Japanese DNA you're seeing is that

we have become inspired by our history lessons

and you're seeing some of that come around.

As a designer, there is always this debate about art and design and what is the difference.

I think at the root, people spend most of their time dreaming

and somehow trying to bring those dreams into shape.

No 062 V1.0 Petr Melichárek - blade 1.2379 (D2) TESTER V1.0 - 58,5-59,5HRc - Duration: 59:16.

Greetings :) Today we are testing the blade from Petr Melicharek

The blade is made from laminated steel with D2 equivalent (w.nr. 1.2379 ) on the edge and the w.nr.1.2083 on sides

Exact parameters of this blade you can see in the previous video , as this is the second test.

Im sorry for my little mistake I made . The original thickness behind the bevel was 0,27 mm and I sharpened to 0,47 mm behind the bevel .

So we made an agreement, that we will test the blade with this thickness , and than Petr will regrind the sides and we will make another test

So right now the last sharpening stone we used was tyrolit 17 micron , bevel has 30° - peak angle , and the thicknes is 0,47 mm behind the bevel

The blade was annealed again after first test ...

In the first test a said that it has something like 60 HRC, after that Petr made exact hardness measurement

After measuring it has 61-62HRC

This very same blade , now after re-annealing once more , it has 58,5-59,5 HRC the edge part (D2 ekv.)

and the sides has 48 HRC. The interesting thing is that I had a feeling, that the sharpening was easier

but at the same time the edge was making a wire a little bit more

and another interesting thing is , that with the very same parameters of the sharpening

The BESS test on the first time was 94-95g, now I measured 79g

so there is a significant drop (in BESS testing)

it looks like this steel, now in the softer form , can be sharpened to finer edge and it cuts better the BESS medium

We try tu cut the cigarette paper ... Absolutely no problem

Cigarette paper cutting - no problem at all! Now ill insert the video of the edge and the BESS picture and than we start testing

Side view of the blade , 300x zoom , last sharpening stone tyrolit 17 micron,

Blade was sharpened on the Tormek T7 sharpening machine

There is a nice micro-saw, and if we observe the vertical lines from sharpening,we can see the little points there.

That is the carbide structure of this steel

Another side of the blade , the same picture. The points of the structure can be seen here too.

View from the top . The dark line in the middle, apearing and disapearing , that is our edge ..

Just to be sure ill try again cigarette paper.

Absolutely no problem

We try now initial force needed to cut PA rope 10mm

Im pretty curious about this by myself

We compare with the first test where the force was 10 N .

We try 5 N - negative

Lets try 7,5 N - yes . This proves that the knife is sharper than in the first test.

So we have 7,5 N

This is 50N of force , 20 mm rope from Lanex company

Lets try now initial cutting performance on 20 mm rope

Lets reset it to zero

well ... it is 11,17 mm

One more thing. There is a little difference. This blade is polished a little bit more, after the etching , than it was in previous test . At least it seems to me .

it is not so much difference but I better point it out now

So we can start testing

10 cuts , I will mark that ...

No chisps , the edge is soft , and it cuts . Im pretty curious now.

And now im verz curious about this ...

we had 7.5 N before . Now it is negative ...

10N- Negative

12.5N - negative

15N - negative

17.5N - positive

So we have now 17.5N

Im pretty curious about the dulling dynamics now, as now the steel has 2HRC less than in the first test

With more or less the same parameters of the blade

20 cuts, still cant feel any chisps

it is cutting

lets try PA rope

we had 17,5N before ... Now it is negative .

20N-positive

Now , when im watching the previous test , so now with 0 cuts it was 7,5N , and with 10 cuts 17,5N ..

There is 10 N difference than . On the previous testing of this blade - On 0 cuts it was 10N , and on 10 cuts 15N- So there was difference only 5N

Than it was 2,5N difference (after more cuts in past test ) , and now there is 2,5N difference too in this test

So lets see what will come next ..

30 cuts , still cant feel any edge damage , no chisps , it cuts cigartette paper

We had 20N before - negative now , 22,5N - positive

40 cuts, cant feel any chisps

it still cuts

We had 22,5N - negative now, 25N - positive

50 cuts, no chisps

It still cuts.. With some dificulties but cuts

25N - negative , 27,5N - positive

75 cuts, still cant feel no chisps

It still cuts a little bit

we had 27,5N last time - now negative. 30N - negative . 32,5N - positive

lets try once again as it wasnt perfect - Yes - 32,5N

100 cuts, no chisps,it still cuts a cigarette paper but really a little bit

32,5N -negative , 35N-negative, 37,5N - positive

125 cuts - Now it cuts only at the end, but almost doesnt cut .. we reached the "line" here I think

we had 37,5N before - negative now , 40N - negative, 42,5N - positive

Video bylo zkraceno pod 60 minut , kvuli nahravani na you tube. Na vystrizene casti se nic zvlastniho nestalo :) Video was cut under 60 minutes, because of youtube loading. Nothing special happened in removed part :)

175 cuts, here is some little wave on edge

Oficce paper 80g/m2 it cuts

we had before 47,5N - negative now , 50N - negative , 52,5N - positive

200 cuts - cant feel any chisps, it cuts paper,we try PA rope

we had 52,5 N last time - negative now, 55N-negative, 57,5N-positive

225 cuts , still cuts.

we had 57,5N before. Now negative. 60N-negative, 62,5N - positive

250 cuts , cant feel any chisps, it cuts

we had 62,5 before - negative now, 65N - positive

275 cuts , cant feel any chisps

65N-negative,67,5N - positive

300 cuts , cant feel any chisps but it stops cutting the paper, we try PA rope

last time it was 67,5N - negtive now , 70N -positive

etalon spyderco , manix CPM s110v, it is the same

so we have 300 cuts on 20 mm rope. BESS after testing is 257,77 g

this is side view , 300 zoom , after 300 cuts of 20 mm rope, we will check entire edge from starting mark.

Here is the marker , so this is a start of cutting area.

For now I cant see any edge damage

here it seems like the edge is deformed a little bit, or maybe it is missing .. But it can be an optical illusion, we will see it better from upper view latter.

nothing .. it looks nice up to here. Here is the mark

other side of the blade. It is the same image ...

view from the top - The line can be seen in the middle .

As brighter and wider the line becomes , the edge is more worn out

I missed the marker, here it is ...... so we start here

some lighter and polished spots here , but not too much

edge is little bit worn out but not damaged

the edge looks worn out relatively same way

we are reaching the end. This is some dust or something like that.

So I didnt find any damage. It seemed to me before that I saw the bit of rolled edge but maybe it was just polished spot.

The summary :

After the blade was re-annealed for 58,5-59,5HRC, there are very good results - 300 cuts of rope

At the begining of this test, the BESS testing was even one of the lowest of all knives I tested till now - 7,5N

That is very good result and it means, that the knife could be sharpened very well without any problems

The dulling dynamics was a little bit faster than in the first test with 61,5-62,5HRC

but than it stayed on its level

there is a difference like 25 rope cuts between the first and the second test

so I think it is a very good result. Sorry for the phone ringing :)

so the dynamics was little faster but than the process was linear, except last 25-50 cuts

Than it was lower again , but except for that , the result is very good !

Thanks for watching and the side force testing and antler striking will follow :) so we will see the results after re-annealing to 58,5 -59,9HRC

Have a nice day :)

No 063 V1.0 Petr Melichárek - blade 1.2379 (D2) 40° TESTER V1.0 - 58,5-59,5HRc - Duration: 37:40.

Hi everyone :) This is the test of the blade made by Petr Melicharek . Laminated D2 ekvivalent steel (1,2379 steel )

The change against the previous test (test . nr. 62) is the different bevel angle . It was changed from 30°to 40°. Everything else stands as it was ...

Lets see the edge with the microscope now and see the BESS sharpness test

Side view of the edge , 300x zoom, bevel angle is 40° , last used sharpening stone was tyrolit 17 micron

other side of the blade

Upper view of the edge , the central line is the edge .

PA rope 10 mm , lets try initial cutting force that is needed to cut this rope ..

As it is now it if force of 5N - negative , 10N - negative , 12,5N - negative

So 15 N it is .

i just want to point out here that, even sharpened this way, the edge is still able to cut into the human hair .

Lets try initial cutting performance on 20 mm rope from Lanex company. Now the force is set to 50 N.

8,71 mm , lets proceed to first ten cuts

Even on first cuts it can be seen what is the difference in cutting performance with the sharpening geometry changed. I need 3 cycles to cut it.

Now even 4 cycles

it is "jumping" a lot

10 cuts , i forgot to put here my box :)))

oh .. i forgot one important thing.I didnt show if it cuts the cigarette paper

But even now it cuts without any problems. I cant feel any no chisps or other damage.

we had 15N before - negative , 20N - negative, 22,5N - negative 25N - negative

27,5N - positive

20 cuts , everything ok . It cuts.

So we had 27,5N - negative now , 30N - negative, 32,5N - negative

35N - positive. Well I better try once more .. yes

30 cuts , well ... it wont cut cigarette paper any more ..

so we reached the cigarette paper "border line"

we had 35N - negative , 40N - possitive , 37,5N - negative. So 40N it is .

40 cuts , no chisps, it starts sliding the paper .

45N - negative , 47,5N positive

50N - edge seems ok , it still cuts a bit

I will start directly with 50N - negative , 52,5 - positive

75 cuts, it still cuts a bit

60N - negative 62,5N - positive

100 cuts , cant feel any chisps , we are done ..

Lets check the force .If we are over 70 N.

65N - negative , 70N - positive -lets try 67,5N - positive

so we will continue until we reach those 70 N.

120 cuts , it cant cut paper any more , we check the force but i think that this is over

70N - negative 72,5N - well .. hardly but positive .

Side view of the edge , lets check from the start , here is the marker ..

that is just some kind of stain

nothing .. No damage can be seen for now , here is something darker

here is the end mark

other side of the blade, I think there is nothing that has to be said .

upper view of the blade, in the middle we can see the brighter and darker spots changing

Where the line is wider and brighter , the edge is duller . This time the edge is more worn out than in previous tests. Lets check from start ..

here is the marker. Edge is fine , some polished spots , little bit more here

no damage at all

summary :

compared with previous tests, when we cut cca 300 times the 20 mm rope .Now it was 120 cuts .

roughly counted every 5° of bevel angle change, results in 50 - 60% of improvement or decrease in cutting performance of the knife.

There is no damage at all after abrasive resistance testing , and we will follow with side force resistance testing and antler striking .

Thanks for watching and have a nice day :)

For more infomation >> No 063 V1.0 Petr Melichárek - blade 1.2379 (D2) 40° TESTER V1.0 - 58,5-59,5HRc - Duration: 37:40.

-------------------------------------------

No 056 V1.0 Petr Melichárek - blade 1.2379 (D2) TESTER V1.0 - Duration: 59:24.

Hi everyone , today we have for testing this nice blade, knifemaker is Petr Melichárek

The cutting edge is the 1,2379 steel ( D2 - equivalent), I will note it down there..

Blade length is 100 mm , width in this spot is 35mm, thickness 3,8mm

it is some kind of laminated steel. Another importatn thing is that ...

the knife was resharpened before test with Tormek T7 sharpening maschine

Peak angle of the bevel is 30 ° (15/15 each side)

Thickness right behind the bevel is 0,27mm.

I will insert the video , how this part of the cutting edge appears under the microscope..

you will see this and I will also post the BESS sharpness test

you will see the result of this test (BESS)

Side view of the blade, 300 X zoom...

Blade was resharpened with Tormek T7, last sharpening stone was Tyrolit 17 microns

we can see nice micro-saw at the end of the edge

and now, approximatelly in the middle of the screen, you can see some kind of grain ....

appearing on the vertical lines, that is the macrographic grain structure of the steel...

the steel should be D2 (equivalent - W.Nr. - 1,2379 )

other side of the knife, we can see nice micro-saw

and again if you look down where are the grinding lines

you can see some kind of points there, it looks like some kind of dust or something..

those are the grain peaks. It is the part of grain structure of the steel..

Top view of the edge. The dark line in the middle of the screen, it is our edge ..

nice, fine edge .. those are the marks from the maker pen

lets go to other side

BESS inicial sharpness, after resharpening on Tormek T7, before testing

You could see by yourself that I inserted a picture of Bess test - 94,8g

so very good result,

here we have cigarette paper 12g/m2 , we try if the blade can cut it ...

There should be absolutely no problem with this. It cuts nicely ..

We will test now the initial cutting performance ICP, which is the force needed to cut 10 mm PA rope.

Now the force is set to 10N with this one weight ...

The move is 50 mm forward and 50 mm backward ..

on this exact test (ICP) we move just 50mm

so it is less than 10N

now it is set to 5N ....... this dont cut

Lets try something between - 7,5N.....no...

So 10N it is ... initial cutting performance ( ICP )

Now we change the rope , 20 mm rope from Lanex company...

we have force 50N .. reseting ...

we will measure just half because it cut very deep ...10.12 mm

once more we can test this

xxxxx.7 (cant be heard clearly)

so thats it ... and we can continue testing ..

we have 10 cuts, I cant feel any chips, there should be no problem here..

it cuts,we will test now dulling dynamic of the edge (for the final graph)

so before we had 10N ... negative, cant cut it (in 5cm move)

15N ... yes it cuts .. we try 12,5N

negative ... so 15N it is

20 cuts....sharp.... this cuts

Lets test the force ... 15N was before...negative..

17,5N - yes

30 cuts , I cant feel any chips.... it cuts

20N....yes...

lets try 17,5 again just to be sure... negative

so 20N is the result

40 cuts, edge is smooth, it catches on the nail

it still cuts cigarette paper a bit

it was 20N, we try 22,5 N... yes, it cuts ...

50 cuts, edge is smooth...

still cutting

22,5N it was, lets try 25N... lets see...

yes

and just to be sure, lets try again 22,5N.... No...

we have 70 cuts, we try to cut cigarette paper again

yea .. it still cuts a bit

75 cuts ..still no chips...

well.....still cuts a little bit....

it was 25N...

i will put 30N... hmmm...

it was almost negative ...

(repeating with 30N - success)

so we try 27,5...negative ... so it is 30N

90 cuts, yea smooth .... the edge is totally smooth ... still can cut .

100 cuts, still cuts cigarette paper a little bit...

it was 30N last time, so we try 35N... negative

40N..yes, it cuts...we try 37,5N ...

yea .. it cuts with this force too.. so it is 37,5N

125 cuts

I cant fell any chips on edge. It cant cut cigarette paper any more...this is end (for cigartte paper testing)

there should be still no problem for this paper, it cuts nicely this one ...

(counting) so it is ... 30,,35N... negative

40N it cuts ...and lets try if it can cut 37,5N.. and ... yes.. it cuts it .

so we have 37,5N

275 cuts

there is some little wave ....

hmm ...it starts to be unable to cut ..

we try the force ...

60N....negative

65N...cuts.

300 cuts ...

there are some chips or nicks

well .. I think this is the end .. I dont know why so suddenly ... nothing...

we try the cutting force

it was 65N... now 67,5N

well...it is almost negative ..I had to pull a bit ..67,5N

well . I had to pull a bit but 67,5N it is... and we try to cut a bit more

until I reach 70N ....

( talking to someone :) )

( talking to someone again :) )

325 cuts ...

It doesnt cut the paper any more ...I will note this down - 80g/m2

we try the cutting force now

67,5N...negative...

this is 70 N

well ..i think that this is over...

we are exactly on "borderline" (70N force)

so, it is unable to cut the standart office paper ..

And we reach the 325 cuts with force of 70N

lets see the edge with the microscope now

BESS - 239,13 G

side view of the edge, after 325 cuts on 20mm rope

we can already see some darker spots , but there are not many

if I can rate it , it looks very well

now here is already the marker pen mark ...

so from this spot, we will go all over the blade

looks nice here, some darker spot right on the peak of the edge..

and everything else looks good

those points , that you can see below the edge, that is a grain structure of the steel

I cant see any important damage, but near the end there was one spot, where I could feel some minor "wave"

so Im curious if I can find it...I felt something with my nail before

but here , everything looks good

I dont know if this is the spot ...

Here it is . And seems it is just a little bit bend edge, towards our point of wiew...

but it is minimum

everything good here

so it wasnt that spot ... This is the spot. Here it can be clearly seen...

It seems like part of edge is missing or it is bend. But looks like it is missing

But it is very little, like 0,01 mm

I will try to take a picture

and we can continue... there should be nothing more, up to the mark

nice

here is the mark

other side of the blade, pretty same image

I will move further ...here it is, the spot where I suppose the little bit of material is missing

lets see it from the top

top view of the edge. In the middle we can see alternations between bright and dark spots

brighter and wider the central line is , more worn out is the blade

There should be a mark somewhere

from this spot we started cutting

some bright spots but more of the dark ones

more bright here ...

a bigger bright spot here

nothing ....

there is no damage on the blade, just some kind of common wear of which I can say it is even on all parts

nothing important here

we should now approach the chisped spot

this is all the same , just worn out ...

I have to grip it better

still nothing .. no damage here , just wear out

here is the mark already...so I missed the spot.. I have to go back

is it so ??.... yes

so I have to go back to the spot

It cant be seen from this view

This should be the spot.............. yes thats it

so it is just a little bit of missing edge

now it seems like the bright part is bend downwards

well, this is the biggest damage of the edge

My summary and rating of this test

At the beginning the knife was sharpened , so according to BESS, result was 95g

thats the force needed to cut the testing medium

AFTER the testing 239g BESS, it is still relativelly low weight

It means that the knife should still cut some more materials nicely.

Initial cutting performance (ICP) was 381 or 382 of mm2

so relatively very good result

the main testing..

Very agressive cutting performance,

up to 40 or 50 cuts to the rope, the cuts were done by 1 cycle (5cm forwards/5cm backwards)

So this means very agressive cutting . Also the graph line is relatively high.

You will see on the graph line later...

that somewhere at 120-125 cuts the steel was still able to cut cigarette paper

what is interesting,is that approx.at 300 rope cuts, the edge was unable to cut office paper

However the force needed to cut 10mm PA rope, was lower than 70N

I dont know how to say it, but I imagine that the edge was a bit "rounded"

normally it is reverse.. That first it reaches 70N of force, needed to cut 10mm PA rope..

and after that, it can cut maybe 20-30% more until it is dull so it cant cut the office paper

This time it was otherwise. On the other hand at the very beginning of test ., with the fresh sharp edge,

the force needed to cut 10mm PA rope was just 10N

if I can remember it right, it was one of the lowest forces

I suppose that the geometry (shape) of blade is involved here, the angle of a blade is something like 6°

The width of the grind, right after the bevel is 0,27 mm,

which are very good parameters for cutting

I will put some comparison with the AK9 steel into the graph (something like 440C)

which had similar parameters

I think, that the heat treatment is very well done

according to my informations it should be heat treated to approx. 60 HRC (later in 2nd test it was measured exactly to 61,5 hrc)

There will be another test - Test of side force resistance and antler cutting

so we shall see if this steel, with these parameters and this heat treatment could endure this test

The rope cutting test was without any problems, without any major damage of the edge

Or I can say without any damage! It is very nice result !

My gratulations to Petr....The knife, up to here, is very well made and heat treatred.

well .. lets try another test.. Side force test and antler cutting test, and lets see the results

Thanks and until next time ! :) :) :)

lets try the force

No 062 T1.0 Petr Melichárek - blade 1.2379 (D2) TESTER T1.0 - 58,5-59,5HRc - Duration: 15:45.

Here is the spot where the blade is pushed towards the brass roll by the force 10N . The axis of the edge towards the roll is 30°.

i will mak that

now the force is set to 30N

I will focus a little bit..

now the force is 50N. Focusing a bit more ..

Now we will make a dynamic test

There will be more impacts (to be sure)

so the dynamic part of test, fall from 5 cm with force of 10N. Lets mark that...

Lets try another one on this spot

once again 10N fall from 5 cm

There are some marks and it seems to be a brittle fracture

we will try one last time

so the third and last time fall from 5 cm with force 10N

on this spot we try to slice the antler , I will mark that.

on this spot ill try to make 1 exact strike to the antler

i can feel some wave there, but ...

and in this area I will make 30 strikes

there are some chisps

This is a spot where the blade was pushed towards the brass roll with force 10N. Static part of test , angle of blade axis towards the roll was 30°

here is the second mark. Static part, 30N.

here was the force 50N, static part of the test

here is the first dynamic test, it still seems to be a brittle fracture

here is the second one , this seems to be a brittle fracture too

there has to be one more ...

here .. This seems to be double. Maybe it bounced twice after the impact.

ill try to zoom out a little bit, so it fits and could be measured.

now we go back for this one ..

and the last one. Here it is.

1,,2,,3,,and here it is .. the darker area is the place where the antler was sliced

The darker spots are the antler rests sticked to the edge .

this is the spot where one exact strike to the antler was made

I cant see any damage , the place that seems rolled or something like that, it is the marker. I will make the picture of this.

and further from here , there was an area of 30 strikes - here are the darker spots which are rests of antler , and here we have the first damage

it is a brittle fracture again . Another one

it looks like this if I zoom out a bit

here are some chisps

Here is the top view. In the middle, there is the spot where the edge was pushed towards the brass roll by force 10N . 30°angle-blade axis/roll . Static part of test

here is the contact spot with force 30N , static part of test

And this was the contact spot where the force was 50N , static part.

here is a dynamic part of test , fall from 5 cm with force of 10N

here is the second one

and one more left.. It can be seen that those are missing parts of material so this is a brittle fracture indeed . It is not a plastic deformation.

we should be near to the spot where the antler was sliced

there can be seen now that on the edge, there are rests of an antler. So no damage here. That was antler slicing.

and now we proceed to the spot where the one exact strike was made.. I try to zoom out a bit and check the marks

yes , there is a marker so this is the spot

just small waves, and here a little bit too, nothing serious.

and now we will try to find the area of 30 strikes

here is the first hole , and here are more of them

summary : I will add the exact microscope measurments to the video , for now as I can see it doesnt seem

that the re-tempering from 61-62HRC to 58,5-59,5 had some significant effect against the brittle fracture. There is still a brittle fracture during dynamic part of test and antler striking.

Both , the dynamic part and the antler striking showed the brittle fracture .

Thanks for watching and see you with next videos :) Have a nice day :)

So we have here the side force resistance test

Force is 10N, angle between blade axis and copper bar is 30 degrees

I will make first mark here

so it is 10 N

I will focus a bit

So now we have 30N

I move the bar

(counting) 25......30

Now the force is set to 50 N

I can focus a bit more... like this ...

So .. we try now , on this spot

focus ....

So now I will make the dynamic test

Fall from 5 cm , force 10N

well .. It seems that there is a broken piece (of edge)

it can be seen there

lets continue, I will try to slice the antler here, and we will see what happen ...

seems OK for now

now I take another antler

somewhere in this area, I will try to make one single cut (strike)... somewhere here.....

it is near that line

yea.. i can feel something there...

And now 30 strikes within this area

I will redraw on other side too ...so I can see...

so this area 30 cuts (strikes)

30 .....

hmm.. there are some chips ...

But the biggest one is from dynamic test

Lets see it with microscope

The part in the middle is where the force was 10N

I check this side .... yea ... 10N...

it is little bit bend

Right next is the force 30N

this spot is the force 50N

and this big hole, is the dynamic test, force was 10N fall from 5 cm.

Here can be seen a missing part of the edge. I will zoom out a bit ...to make a picture.

...and measure

we move a bit ...

This is a spot where the antler was sliced

No damage can be seen here, just the dark spots on the sides

those are rests of antler .. so this is OK

Now we have to move further,

here...this is the spot, where the one exact strike was made into the antler

Here we can see that some pieces of edge are broken

now ..here we should have ....

here is the area of antler striking, there is one chip too, and here

here are some

here looks quite OK ..... here is another one

here ends the striking area

view from the top

in the middle of a screen is mark from 10N static test

here is a mark .... now in the middle, made by force 30N

So here is no bigger damage ... I will measure it and note down the exact numbers..

here is a spot,made by force 50N

and here is , dynamic test result.... here it can be seen nicely

that it is broken from here to this spot ...

I will try to zoom out a bit

relatively big part

in this area the antler was sliced

no damage can be seen here ...

somewhere in this part, there should be an area of antler striking

one single strike

I cant see it well

here it is .. I can see the chisps now...

in the middle of the screen , there are those small spots of broken edge

that was the one single strike

I will take a picture...

so these are the pieces of broken edge...it can be seen from side too ....

now , there should be some marks from 30 times striking into the antler

in my opinion , I think, that the blade passed through this part of test pretty well

there are some minor chips, but this is minimum

Some short summary ....

you can see by yourself, that in static tests - 10,30,50 N the deformation was very small ...

I will note down the exact numbers in the table and I will attach the pictures ..

Dynamic part of test, 10N fall from 5 cm on the copper bar, made a relatively big damage , piece of edge broke

antler slicing and antler striking, I think it was relatively good

only in case of one single cut, there are two or three a bit bigger chips

and those 30 strikes, there was no major problem

it can be seen, that this material is a bit more fragile, if I can say it this way

it has a tendencies to brake , maybe tempering it a bit more would help

to make it more tough and it should be super than ...

now , in this exact state it cuts very well, it has a very good abrasive resistance on the rope cutting

with note that it is bit more fragile

thanks for watching, and until next time with more videos :) :) :)

This is the spot where force 10N is pushing the blade towards the 6 mm brass roll . Angle is 30° - blade axis / roll .

now it is 30N

Now the force is 50N

Dynamic part of the test - fall from 5 cm , force 10 N

I cant feel any damage there , it cant be even seen now .

we try now to slice the antler .. I cant fell anything, no change there

I think nothing happend again

And now , somewhere in this area 30 strikes to antler

I cant feel any chisps with my nail . There is something bit rough but i think it will be the rests of antler sticked to the blade . I think there will be no damage

this is the side view of the spot where force of 10 N was pushing the blade towards the 6 mm brass roll with angle 30° (blade axis/roll)

I cant see any deformation

here the force was 30N , Again I cant see any damage

here the force was 50N , again nothing , maybe we will see it better from top view

That was the static part of the test

here is the spot where the dynamic part of test was made ,fall from5cm/10Nforce . Cant see any damage here.

maybe now when focused it seems that the edge is rolled a bit , but that is minimal.

This is the spot where the antler was sliced, again no damage

Sorry, THIS is the spot! There rests of antler can be seen here as dark spots.

here is the second mark...

behind this mark, here in central part, it is the spot where one exact strike was made

No damage here. I will make a picture of this.

ok .. and from here it is an area of 30 strikes to the antler

darker spots can be seen there (rests of antler) ,

but I cant see any edge damage

the darker spots are the rests of the antler sticked to the blade. As you can see it can be removed.

Ok .. this is the end .. here is the marker .

we can make picture of this too ...

This is the view from the top , I´ll focus to central part . That is the spot where the static force of 10N was pushing.

no measurable deformation

This is the spot of 30N static force

no measurable deformation

This is a spot of 50N static force

no measurable deformation

here in the middle there is a spot of dynamic part of the test. Fall from 5 cm to brass rod , 10N , angle 30%.

somewhere here is the antler slicing - no damage.

this should be the place of 1 exact strike , again the rests of antler can be seen there

No damage on the edge

and from this mark... bit further ...

this was the area of 30 strikes

No damage

Summary - on this blade I suggest to use 36-40° bevel angle.

You can see that with 40° there is no damage. To be sure I will measure the dynamic part with the microscope ( was added to vid. 0,004 mm).

but it seems that with 40° angle the brittle fracture occures no more .

This is far better than it was with 30°angle , so bevel for this blade 35-36°should be fine or 40° depending on use and purpose of the knife.

Thanks for watching and have a nice day :) :) :)
