On this episode of China Uncensored,

the Chinese Communist Party says they want to

spread peace around the world.

But just in case,

they're also filling the skies with terrifying war machines.

Welcome to China Uncensored.

I'm Chris Chappell.

We all know America has the world's greatest military.

But I've got some bad news for you.

Or good news,

depending on which country you're living in.

Because the Chinese military is catching up fast.

So get ready to have your hopes for a peaceful world dashed,

as we bring you 5 deadly Chinese military aircraft.

Number 5: the Harbin Z-19 Chinese attack helicopter

With a top speed of 174 miles per hour,

it may not be fast, but it sure is furious.

The Z-19 started life as a French helicopter

for search and rescue and MEDIVAC.

It was built under license by China's Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation.

But then they added armor plating,

a bunch of guns,

a mean-looking paint-job and voila!

One terrifying Harbin Z-19 copter ready for battle.

The base model includes air-to-ground guided missiles

and rocket projectiles.

And it packs a special surprise.

"The crash-proof seats are equipped with bulletproof armor.

The oil tank is also crash proof

and designed to seal itself off once attacked."

Wait, so if you shoot at it, the gas tank shuts off

and...what...the helicopter falls out of the sky?

What do you do?

"These helicopters are designed to be exported to other countries."

Oh I get it!

Sell copters that fall out of the sky to rival countries.

Now that's a clever way to win a war!

Anyway, all I can say is,

before you buy,

get that fuel tank cutoff thing checked out.

Number 4: The J-15 Flying Shark

While the Z-19 is a licensed copy of a French helicopter,

the Shenyang J-15 Flying Shark is a totally unlicensed

knockoff of the Russian SU-33.

The Russians say China stole their design,

and were so upset that they broke off talks to sell

dozens of the SU-33 aircraft to the Chinese Air Force.

And you know your relationship is on the rocks

when even the Russians refuse to sell weapons to you.

Chinese designers of the Flying Shark say

any similarity is totally a coincidence.

And they're quick to point out

the Flying Shark is way better—

it's a lot faster,

has longer range,

and can fly higher.

The J-15 is what's called an air superiority fighter jet.

It's designed for air-to-air combat.

Plus it's great at taking off and landing from an aircraft carrier.

And China is the proud owner of...

one single fully operational carrier—

called the Liaoning.

So now you know where to find the entire fleet

of two dozen Flying Sharks.

Yes, all in one convenient location.

Number 3: The Chengdu J-10

Now China might have only one working aircraft carrier,

but you know what they've got lots of?

Vigorous Dragons!

Yup, that's the code name for the Chengdu J-10.

The Chinese military has about 240 of them in service.

And while in this dragon looks more sleepy than vigorous…

…don't be fooled.

According to Military Today,

this is the first Chinese-developed combat fighter

that approaches Western fighters in terms of

performance and capability.

It's got cannons, air-to-air missiles,

laser-guided bombs,

free-fall bombs and rockets.

But you wouldn't get that

from any Chinese air show.

No, the whole project was so secret

that the first photos of the J-10 didn't come out

until 3 years after its maiden flight in 1998.

But there was not so much secrecy

with the J-10's more recent successor,

which brings us to...

Number 2: The J-11 warplane

There are plenty selfies on Chinese social media of pilots

in their knockoff Russian fighter planes.

And with each one,

China gets another black mark

in the books of Russian arms dealers.

According to the National Interest,

China started out by making a fully authorized copy

of Russia's top-shelf Sukhoi SU-27 multirole fighter,

the plane that challenged the legendary twin-engine F-15.

But then China ducked out of their contract with Russia,

reverse-engineered the Sukhoi SU-27,

and made their own souped up version.

They call it the J-11.

Then a whole alphabet soup of J-11's followed,

like the J-11B, the J-11D and the J-11BS.

I'm not making that last one up.

Anyway, the J-11-based aircraft

are the spearhead of the Chinese regime's efforts

to make long-range fighters

that can contest the seas around China.

And that brings us to...

Number 1: The J-20 stealth multipurpose fighter

The J-20 stealth, according to state-run media,

is China's most advanced stealth fighter.

Well, technically, with its massive fuel tanks,

it's more of a long-range interceptor.

So while it would probably lose

in a Top Gun-style dogfight

against a US F-22 or F-35 stealth fighter,

it's perfect for attacking defenseless stratotankers—

the aerial fuelling stations that those smaller,

scrappier fighter jets are pretty much dependent on.

China's air force recently declared the newest generation

of the J-20 to be combat-ready.

But designers admit there are

a few wrinkles left to iron out—

like engine reliability, control system,

stealth coat, hull materials and infrared sensor…

Wait, those seem like...kind of big problems.

Um...let's just take the state-run media's word for it.

The J-20 is really, really deadly.

Now all these dangerous Chinese planes in the sky

can only mean one thing—

way more people believing in chemtrails.

And, if you believe experts like historian Alfred McCoy,

who writes about challenges to US global power…

...thanks in part to high tech aircraft,

China could soon become the world's biggest military superpower.

And now it's time for a fan question

from one of our supporters on Patreon.

Roberto Miglioli asks: "Chris, how far is China willing to go

regarding the South China Sea standoff?

Do you think China will go to war to secure that area?"

I think the better question is,

would any country go to war

to stop the Chinese Communist Party?

Because short of that,

nothing is stopping the Communist Party

in the South China Sea.

Despite neighboring countries

and even an international court

telling them not to,

the Communist Party built up fake islands

in disputed territorial waters.

And even though Chinese leader Xi Jinping

promised China wouldn't militarize those islands,

they've put missile launchers

and even recently landed a long range bomber,

in those disputed territorial waters.

That means China can now project military power

anywhere in Southeast Asia,

and as far away as northern Australia.

So the Party has already all but secured the area—

without going to war.

Thanks for your question, Roberto.

My Son the Cattleman | Learn about Grass-Fed Cows | Vlog - Duration: 11:18.

Watch your footing here. Okay. It was, it was trampled, but like, it was wet, and so

the ground has holes.

Yeah, I mean, this field hasn't been grazed in a while. It has

grasses, but it has a lot of invasives, too, like this stuff. The biggest problems are

this brush and then the Italian thistle which has a little purple flowers on top.

How do you get rid of those thistles? that's a big problem? Well

the only way really is to pack them shoulder to shoulder in a field, have

them pound it out.

That part of the ranch? No, that's across the street.

Have you seen the new bull? No.

That's Mike, that's the new bull. I need to get a little closer.

Which one, the brown one? Yeah.

Being a good boy?

Alright, I want to make sure they're in their field, and that they're performing well,

and happy, and have water, have their minerals, everything they need.

Then it's super easy.

You'll see, I'll just cut the line and they'll just run through and I

can, I'll move them in a grand total, it'll probably be about one minute.

Sixty-four.

It is, I promise you. There's 44 finishers and 20 yearlings in here.

All right, kids, ready to move? (snap)

That's wire, right? It's wire and plastic.

Okay, maybe but not even a minute, maybe.

Animals, when they're hungry, the way to

tell if they're hungry or not, whether you fed them enough, is that

when you move them in the morning, their rumen is a good indicator of

whether they're hungry. So that right in front of their hip bone there, there's a

triangle pocket that if it's sucked in at all it means that they're not haven't

got quite enough. Which grass is best, vetch or clover? They're both super high in

protein, so. (tap, tap, tap)

They check their boundaries, because they want to know what their,

what their field size is, and where they can go, and then once they do that,

they start eating and move back and forth in their field.

How many times have you been shocked? Fifteen.

(birds singing)

in the really hot times when we used to have

like 80 animals, they'd go through 2000 gallons almost in a day.

How much... But, in the

winter, they go through like like 300 or 400 cuz there's so much water on the

grass that they're like, they don't need to.

Are you just changing that out? Yes.

Alright, so the only thing, I just, I was gonna pull the truck into here so I have

enough room with the hose.

Just hold that tight so that cuz that holds that whole

side tight. Oh, got it, yeah, okay.

They're called scurs. They're not real actual horns. They're like, you can see

they're like little like things that curve over. Right. I mean, he's

full-grown and so like those are not even that big of horns.

Hey, cows! He-ey!

(cows moo in response)

Come on, Mommas!

(birds singing)

(in distance) Come on, come on!

That does not look like a deer tick. It's too big.

There are times we don't want to be in the fields because it's too wet, or Birds,

or other considerations. We map all that out, then we map out where we want to

graze at a certain time of year, and we plan all that out. Last year, we lost two

calves to mountain lions and we're trying to see, we're trying to coexist with them.

We don't want, we don't want to go out there and harm them,

but we want to live with them, but we don't want them to take our calves.

This is the herd we've kind of were able to really play with our genetics here

like as we've talked about. This is really an experiment, so, just even with

grazing, it's a great experiment, but with herd composition, and with the way we

want to see our herd kind of develop over time. I don't have to worry about

them going anywhere and we can work in these tight spaces and learn how to

handle them and learn how to move them in low stress ways because it's really,

it's really easy, makes life easier on you to do it that way, but it makes them

have a great life. They don't get stressed out, makes the meat better in

the end. That makes their overall experience

better. What we try to do is get them to just eat that bite, so that, that forces

the ground, for the grass to regrow. So you don't want to eat it all the way

down because then that, the roots just have to die and the plant kind of dies,

but you want to eat it like halfway almost. You just want to eat that bite

off the top and force the plant to regrow, which pulls that carbon and

organic matter into the soil and causes it to regrow. And then at this time of

year, we're really trying to create a layer of like mulch for the soil so a

lot of times... The grass is not tall, quite tall enough to do it here,

but our least property is tall enough that they eat it enough, but they're

laying down so much that the grass just lays over and covers all the bare soil

so that when it rains it's not hitting on bare soil and we're not causing any

erosion. So that it literally, it just, it stays there and the grass will bounce

right back up.

Your goals kind of change throughout the year. When you're in this time of year,

when things are starting to not grow as much, you really want to lay things down

and especially not, you don't want to graze your perennials and natives too

hard, because those are the ones that keep growing throughout the year. Your

annuals are the ones that are starting to die out now. If you see anything

that's brown around the ranch right now, that's because they're annuals and

they're, and they're, and they're dying back now but the ones, the perennials are

the ones that stay green all year. Those are the kind of grasses that we'll be

able to graze through, all the way through the winter, back into the next

growing season.

(cowboy music begins to end)

I love my job, because I get to work out with animals at this beautiful 1800 acre

ranch, as you can see is super sunny and nice, and don't have to sit at a desk.

I had a great mentor named Mike Giannini who taught me everything about how to

work with cattle, to graze grasslands, to have fun at work, to have fun outside of

work, to just love your job and love every minute of it, so, I'll never forget

what he taught me.

(Kaye) Some major turns here.

How one typeface took over movie posters - Duration: 3:52.

If you're in a theater during previews, and you see this ….

… you know to expect a comedy movie.

If you see this — you know it's going to be action.

Make the letters a little skinny — and boom.

It's sci-fi.

You know this one's going to have fast cars...

This one's going to have Michael Cera…. … and this one's gonna be a rom-com.

You don't even need the music to know it.

But what about this?

This typeface — Trajan – is probably one of the most popular movie poster fonts ever.

You can see it in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Double Jeopardy, Letters from Iwo Jima,

It's everywhere.

So how did it get there?

I'm Yves Peters, I am a graphic designer who has been writing professionally about type

and typography since about 10 years.

Yves has looked at a lot of posters.

And a few years ago, he started to notice a trend.

I started clicking, clicking, clicking, and didn't know where I started because I ended

up looking at about 16,000 posters.

Yeah.

Well I look at about 100 posters per month and I've been doing this series since 2006…

It's a lot of posters every year.

He noticed that the use of Trajan rose significantly in the last couple of decades.

But why?

In 1989, designer Carol Twombly adapted inscriptions from Roman emperor Trajan's column into

a digital typeface.

It was made for Adobe, so it was a part of the software that a lot of people were starting

to use to make posters.

A couple years later, it made its movie poster debut here — for Héctor Babenco's

At Play in the Fields of the Lord.

After that, it was on The Bodyguard, and Scent of a Woman.

Then it was on three 1993 box office hits.

By 1994, it was everywhere.

It's originally used for epic movies, movies about people that overcome difficulties, like

the big war epics and so on.

But then you see gradually that it becomes the standard movie font.

It's like the Arial of movie posters.

So people need to churn out a poster really quickly, and they just pick Trajan.

Eventually, that overuse changed the kinds of movies that used the typeface.

You don't see it as much on the big productions anymore.

It's become the typeface of horror movies, B-movies, and also the straight-to-video ones.

So you'll see that a lot of posters are for the lesser movies that want to pretend they

are better than they actually are.

The rise and fall of Trajan illustrates the downside of digital typeface.

The convenience of swapping fonts is a huge shift from old movie poster days when hand-painted

typefaces or "lettering" was an art that was specific to each movie.

So what you see behind me — this is more like the pre-blockbuster thing...

pre-genres, pre-standard styles — and that's why you will be hard pressed to find

two that are similar.

That doesn't make today's genre-specific typography bad design.

These visual clichés make it possible to communicate tone and plot details to an audience

incredibly efficiently.

And there's a certain art to that.

People get nostalgic about the old era of movie posters, when everything was still done

by hand and still very unique.

But you could compare it to music, where some people say, "nothing good was produced since

the Beatles."

But then there are people who say there's nothing good since Mozart.

Fair enough, but there's many other interesting things that are being produced now.

There's just much more.

But there's still a lot of very good poster design happening.

It's just, you need to know where to look."

Government to come up with measures to support low income households by July - Duration: 1:51.

Officials tasked with handling matters related to the nation's economy held a meeting today.

They focused on supporting innovative growth and ways to deal with issues linked to the

widening wealth gap.

Kim Hyesung has the highlights from that session.

Korea's economic policymakers gathered Thursday to discuss two key issues, tackling income

inequality and supporting innovative growth.

"Innovative growth is not limited to certain specific areas or companies, but it covers

all economic and social areas, and helps create jobs.

We will look into ways to create a synergy to also solve the income distribution problem."

The wealth gap has widened to record levels in Korea.

According to Statistics Korea, the monthly average income for those in the bottom 20

percent income bracket dropped eight percent in the first quarter this year while income

for households in the upper 20 percent soared nine-point-three percent on year, widening

the income gap to nearly six times.

Minister Kim vowed to pinpoint the cause of such discrepancy and come up with detailed

measures to support low income households by July.

At the meeting, ministers also delved into innovative growth plans in construction businesses

and fishing villages.

The transport ministry said it is working on removing regulations in the construction

industry and strengthen companies' self-building obligations to boost competitiveness, and

promised to come up with detailed plans by the third quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said it is pushing for the implementation

of the so-called "Fishing Villages New Deal 300" to modernize outdated fishing villages,

saying 3-hundred out of 23-hundred fishing ports need to be revamped in order to boost

safety and help support tourism in the future.

Fmr. State Department N. Korea analyst: Rushing N. Korean denuclearization won't work - Duration: 3:53.

The first ever meeting between the leaders of Pyongyang and Washington was a welcome

development by the world.

But many felt the agreement reached on denuclearizing North Korea left much to be desired, as it

lacked specifics.

A veteran U.S. State Department analyst begs to differ.

That a slow but steady approach could win the race in the long run.

Our Oh Soo-young sat down with John Merrill for his take on what was produced in Singapore.

You've been at the State Department for nearly 30 years,… seeing a number of U.S. presidents

come and go.

What sets the Trump administration apart in terms of North Korea Policy.

Is it close to successfully denuclearizing the North?

The verdict is still out on whether it will be successful.

But I think the summit was a very promising start.

I think Trump is different from his predecessors in a number of important ways.

He's a dealmaker, and he knows that the first thing you have to do in a negotiation is to

establish rapport with your opposite member.

So I think he's been much prepared to do that with the North Koreans than his predecessors

who were more standoffish.

So I think that approach has produced the results and he's been helped by the fact that

he's dealing with a new type of leader and a progressive president in the South.

Well, there's been some concern over the apparent downsizing of joint military drills between

South Korea and the U.S.

You've said halting such war games could enable engagement and even a deal with North Korea.

Do you stand by this position?

Yes.

But with some qualification.

I've never advocated doing away with exercises entirely.

I think these war games grew to over the top exercises.

When you have three air craft carrier battle, with three air wings and all those planes,

many of those planes are nuclear capable.

That's too much.

Especially when you're trying to convince North Korea to do is denuclearize.

It sends the opposite message.

Your secretary of state Mike Pompeo said there's no timeline on the denuclearization process.

Yes.

I was very happy to see that and he's exactly right.

Sometimes the best is the enemy of the good and if we front load this process too much

and demand complete verifiable, irreversible, denuclearization,

I'm not sure we will get much of anything.

This is obviously something gonna take years.

It's a process that needs to build momentum gradually.

So what would you say is the next step for the United States to secure the complete and

verifiable denuclearization of North Korea?

I would say we have to go into this with our eyes open.

And be patient.

Apparently we've submitted, or are about to submit, a list of asks to North Korea.

I think it's unlikely we'll get all of what we want.

What I would like to see is a down payment of denuclearization.

I'd like to see North Korea send some fissile material out of the country.

Maybe to the U.S. or China or some other.

I'd like to see the IAEA back in there and progress on some other issues like human rights.

I see.

Well, thank you for your time today, Dr. Merrill.

My pleasure.

I'm a big fan of Arirang TV.

Thank you.

Really. .

S. Korean, U.S. defense chiefs reaffirm ironclad alliance and watertight consultations - Duration: 3:14.

The nation's defense minister met with his American counterpart James Mattis today in

Seoul. During their third meeting following sit-downs

in Hawaii and Singapore earlier this year... the duo agreed, now is a significant moment

for the Korean Peninsula. Park Ji-won has our top story.

In their opening statement before their closed-door meeting,... the two defense chiefs reaffirmed

their steadfast and ironclad alliance,... vowing that they will continue (quote) "watertight"

consultations,... at a time when major changes are happening on the Korean peninsula.

"We're standing at a turning point between the dark shadow of conflict and confrontation

that hung over the Korean peninsula for the last 70 years, and the brighter new history

of peace and cooperation. This is a precious opportunity made by President Moon and U.S.

President Trump's vision and decisions. South Korea and the U. S. pledge their utmost effort

to ensure that this opportunity not only leads to the peace and prosperity of the Korean

Peninsula, but also Northeast Asia and the world."

They also confirmed the decision to suspend the Freedom Guardian exercise,... originally

scheduled for this August. Mattis said the suspension of the joint military

exercises will create a better environment for diplomats to negotiate with the North.

"The recent decision to suspend the Freedom Guardian exercise creates an increased opportunity

for our diplomats to negotiate, increasing the prospects for a peaceful solution on the

Korean Peninsula. At the same time the U.S. and ROK forces remain united, vigilant and

ready to defend against any challenge."

The suspension of the Freedom Guardian exercise, however, doesn't mean that the two countries

will suspend all future military drills. Military sources told Arirang News that the

two defense chiefs agreed that the two countries will decide the timing, scope and scale of

future joint military drills and announce the details together,... considering the North's

progress in denuclearization and the military's combat readiness.

Mattis also stressed that the U.S. will maintain its current troop levels on the Peninsula.

"U.S. commitment to the Republic of Korea remains ironclad and the U.S. will continue

to use a full range of diplomatic and military capabilities to uphold this commitment. This

includes maintaining the current the U.S. force levels on the Korean peninsula."

The two leaders also shared a common view that international sanctions on the North

should remain in effect,.. until Pyongyang takes concrete and irreversible steps for

denuclearization. The two defense chiefs also briefly discussed

the transfer of wartime operational control to South Korea,... but didn't reveal many

details of those discussions. They stressed that this year marks the 65th

anniversary of the signing of the bilateral mutual defense treaty and 50 years of close

consultation through annual joint security consultative meetings,... and they vowed to

further strengthen the alliance,.. in pursuit of the shared goal of peace in the region.

Park Ji-won, Arirang News.
