You know what would be really useful when I'm uploading my videos to Youtube?

A checklist that can remind me what I need to do, advice on what I should do and a scoring

system that ranks how well my video is likely to perform.

Yeah, something like that.

So I don't know about you but this is perhaps the most daunting screen on Youtube.

The point where you commit your craft to a global audience.

Making the video was hard enough but now you've got to get the pitch right and there are so

many things to remember.

So we've introduced our new SEO score and upload checklist that automatically pops up

on the right of your screen when you start a video upload.

Here you will find our industry leading Search Engine Optimisation scorecard that will rank

how well your video is likely to perform and a series of key tasks for you to complete

while you're video is uploading.

So now you've got absolutely no excuse, don't waste those vital video upload minutes, get

to work completing these tasks.

This scorecard and checklist work in realtime too so you can see instantly how your changes

make an impact.

In this example by using vidIQ's bulk tags copy tool I can drop tags from one video into

Another realtime example would be adding a video to a playlist.

A simple but important job that adds a tick to the checklist.

thumbnails, add annotations and so on but you should end up with something like this.

And when you get good at SEO you can make simple changes to your videos to really increase

their visibility.

Take this example, my triple keywords score is low so a change to my title has this effect.

New York City is good to me.

and I own candy store for 43 years.

When we came to Norfolk, VA, I jumped the ship

of different work, pot washing, dish washing...

I want to be my own boss.

I run and run until I drop dead

because I work 16 hours every day.

I live upstairs. I am only 12 steps away from here.

Everybody comes here

because when I was here there was no

other shops, so they come and they say,

"Thank you for being here."

About six years ago,

I called my landlord, I say, "It's a cold winter."

"I'm not making any money. Can I pay you in the summer?"

He said, "No no no, we don't do that."

"This is business." So he sent me an eviction notice.

So they said, "Okay, pay the rent."

"And you are off the hook." You know how I got the money?

The [neighborhood] people, they throw me money like crazy.

And they throw me $400, $200, $100,

five dollars, ten dollars, and then

they had a concert. I made $4000.

I paid rent, I bought a freezer.

I bought ice cream machine.

Neighborhood used to be bad.

Very bad. Needles, guns.

New York magazine used to say,

"The best place to live is the Upper East Side."

Everybody move to the Upper East Side.

Then they said, "Now, you want to see a movie star?"

"Lower East Side."

And everybody move here. Actors, actresses.

Now they say, "Brooklyn." Now everyone is in Brooklyn. (laughs)

I read a lot. I read Persian Empire history.

In poetry. it's very interesting.

Science Can Now Turn Plastic Bags Into Fuel! - Duration: 4:23.

Plastic is everywhere, it's in everything -- your phone, this camera, the landfills,

the mountains, the forest, the beach, the ocean, sea turtles, so many fish… it's everywhere.

If you never had to take organic chemistry then you don't know the scourge that is carbon

-- it's in everything.

Everything is a carbon and hydrogen chain.

You spend your time moving electrons around, changing bonds and hating life.

Orgo is extremely important, because basically all life contains the organic molecule carbon.

I mean, molecularly: humans, plants, dogs, cats, pizza… pretty much everything contains

carbon.

The plastic polyethylene is a long chain of carbons and hydrogens with some strong double

bonds between chunks.

Petroleum?

It's also just a chain of carbons with some hydrogens around it!

Both of these things are polluters, and both come from hydrocarbons of natural gas and

crude oil…

It might seem like alchemy, but what if there was a way to take all the crappy plastic,

rearrange the atoms and turn it into a fossil fuel?

Guess what, fam.

Now there is.

This paper is blank, we just wanted to do something dramatic…

Anyway, a 2016 paper in Science Advances announced they were able to turn polyethylene, into

energy -- potentially solving two polluting problems with one variable!

In their study, the researchers took plastic from bottles, food packaging, and shopping

bags (recycling plastic number 2 or 6) and mixed it with a catalyst breaking the long

chains of hydrocarbon plastic into an alkane!

Alkanes are a class of hydrocarbon.

We often burn alkanes for energy, like methane, propane or butane.

By their chemical calculation, they got 56-percent of the plastic to degrade into alkane oil

products -- namely DIESEL!!

Yep, these scientists turned plastic shopping bags into diesel, with a wax byproduct.

That waxy byproduct can be sold and used for resins and coatings, and the catalyst is reusable

after the chemical reaction is completed!

To be honest, this does feel like alchemy.

But it's needed.

There are a lot of other plastics out there that we need to deal with.

The polyethylenes in this process, remember, are only 2s or 6s, but there are dozens of

other plastics that accumulate in landfills and oceans.

According to American Chemical Council, if we can figure out the trash-to-energy pipeline,

it could create 9 billion dollars in economic output and create tens of thousands of new

jobs.

And they're not the only one advocating for this; in Australia and the United Kingdom,

various startups are converting polystyrene (number six), as well as twos, fives and sevens

to biofuels!

Global plastic production is ridiculous.

In 2013, according to WorldWatch, 299 million tons of plastics were created -- 10 to 20

million tons of that ended up in the ocean, with millions of tons ending up in landfills.

In Europe, they found 26 percent of the plastics consumed were recycled.

In the U.S.?

Only 9 percent.

Take polyethylene, for example; as a product, it comprises 60 percent of all the plastic

trash in landfills!

Once there, it breaks into smaller and smaller pieces, but never truly disappears.

Not to mention, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists, when you pay for fuel,

you're only paying for a little bit of the cost.

Both the fossil fuels themselves, and also the side effects of the mining and extraction,

transportation, and burning of those fuels harm the planet and things living on it.

This new process is still creating diesel, but its not drilling, extracting, refining

and transporting, new crude oils.

If we could break this fossil fuel chain by circling some of that back on itself, that

would be HUGE.

Could this solve our energy problems?

Not yet.

Though the researchers call this "unprecedented," the ability to change post-consumer plastics

into diesel and waxes isn't as efficient as just getting new diesel -- yet.

Currently, the ratio of plastic to catalyst is 30 to 1, but according to Phys-Org, the

researchers' goal is 10,000 to 1.

But while this is the first step, there might come a day when we look to landfills for fuel.

Blood Orange Creme Brulee ♥ Collab with Joanie Simon | Country Hill Cottage - Duration: 3:51.

Today, we show how to make blood orange creme brulee!

First, we cook a custard base with blood orange juice and zest, then we create a crackling

caramel crust and top the crème Brulee with caramelized blood orange slices!

This dessert is part of our new monthly meal series.

Every month we'll share six meals including appetizers, salads, soups, vegetarian, meat

and fish dishes, and, of course, desserts.

Each meal will focus on a seasonal flavour or ingredient.

She's cooking a delicious blood orange Mahi Mahi in parchment with red onion and cilantro

and a fresh blood orange salsa to serve on top!

Joanie preparers tasty recipes, shares clever kitchen tips, does reviews and many more amazing

things on her channel, so make sure to subscribe to her and check out her part of this collaboration!

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius, which is 300 degrees Fahrenheit or gas mark 2.

Place four heat-proof ramekins or crème Brulee dishes into a large cake or roasting tin or

dish.

We used deep glass dishes, but the classic shallow crème Brulee dishes work just fine

as well.

To make the blood orange custard for the crème Brulee base, bring the heavy cream, blood

orange juice and zest to a boil over medium heat while stirring constantly.

In a large mixing bowl cream together the egg yolks and sugar.

The mixture should double in volume but not become foamy.

Pour in the hot cream and continue whisking until well incorporated.

Using a ladle, fill each crème Brulee dish 3/4 with custard.

Fill hot water into the cake or roasting tin to come halfway up the sides of the dishes.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

At this point, the custard should be set but can be still wobbly in the centre.

Allow to cool, then remove the dishes from the water bath and refrigerate until firm,

for at least 3 hours.

To make the roasted blood orange slices, cut off the bottom and top of an orange first

and then the rest of the peel, making sure to remove all of the white pith.

Melt the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat and stir constantly.

Add the orange slices and roast for a few minutes.

Set aside to cool for 15 minutes.

Evenly sprinkle the custard with 1 to 2 teaspoons light brown or Muscovado sugar.

Using a kitchen blowtorch, brown the sugar until crisp and caramelised.

Let set for a minute until the sugar hardens.

Top with a caramelised blood orange slice and enjoy immediately!

This is a wonderful make ahead dessert.

You can prepare the custard and the caramelised orange slices in advance and store them refrigerated

for up to three days.

Try to make the crust as close to serving as possible as it will become soft rather

quickly.
