Macau Vs. Hong Kong: Top 5 Differences | China Uncensored - Duration: 5:47.

On this episode of China Uncensored,

I've got SARs!

You know, Special Administrative Regions.

Hi, welcome to China Uncensored.

I'm your host Chris Chappell.

I'm here in Macau as part of our Pivot to Asia Tour.

Macau is the often overlooked

Special Administrative Region, or S.A.R., of China.

Like Hong Kong, it's officially under the

One Country, Two Systems policy.

That's where Hong Kong and Macau are officially part of China's territory,

but have their own separate governments,

and currencies, and border control.

It was the agreement the Chinese Communist Party made

with the former colonial powers in charge—

because, let's face it, everyone knew

the system in mainland China left something to be desired.

But that's about where the similarities between Hong Kong and Macau end.

And here are 5 major differences.

Number 5: Colonial History

Hong Kong became a British colony in 1842 after the first Opium War.

The British seriously built up the place

and made it into an important, and prosperous, gateway to mainland China.

But in 1997, the British Empire

reluctantly gave Hong Kong back to China—

under the condition that the Communist Party allow Hong Kong

to have a high degree of autonomy.

Unsurprisingly, since 1997,

the Communist Party has been working hard to renege on that promise.

Photos from the handover show that then-leader Jiang Zemin

had his fingers crossed behind his back the whole time.

Macau, on the other hand,

was under Portuguese influence for more than 400 years.

Portuguese first settled there in the mid-16th century,

and it officially became a Portuguese colony in the 19th century.

It used to be a big trading hub,

but as the Portuguese empire declined,

Macau stopped being as prosperous.

Macau's handover to China

happened in 1999 with way less of a fuss than Hong Kong.

Number 4: Languages

The two official languages of Macau are Cantonese and Portuguese,

even though few people in Macau speak Portuguese anymore.

Many signs around the city will have Chinese characters and Portuguese.

But because of the influence of mainland China

and the influx of mainland tourists,

more and more people in Macau are speaking Mandarin.

Hong Kong, being a former British colony,

has long been dominated by Cantonese and English.

However, in 2012, Mandarin narrowly overtook English

as the second most commonly spoken language in Hong Kong,

thanks to efforts by the Chinese Communist Party to spread Mandarin,

especially in the education system.

Number 3: The Economy

The British turned Hong Kong into a world city.

Today it's one of the biggest financial centers in the world,

called one of the Four Tigers of Asia,

along with Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea.

Macau's economy is much smaller than Hong Kong's.

It's also rich, but for

different reasons.

It's basically Las Vegas on steroids.

In 2013, Macau's gambling industry

was seven times bigger than Las Vegas's,

with a whopping $45 billion in gambling revenue.

Macau is the only place in China where casino gambling is legal.

So it's no surprise

that Macau is the 6th biggest tourist destination in Asia.

But it's also taken a hit recently.

Because you know how gambling is a great way to launder money?

I mean, um, I don't know that.

But corrupt Chinese officials sure do!

But now Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign has officials running scared.

Just 12 months after Xi's visit to Macau in 2014,

shares of Macau's six casino operators plunged by more than half.

Number 2: Macau is the model S.A.R.

Between Macau and Hong Kong, Macau is clearly the filial child.

Not like that Hong Kong—

always getting involved in democracy protests,

demanding freedom,

and generally causing trouble for those

hardworking communist officials in Beijing.

Fortunately, in Macau, there is almost no democratic movement,

let alone an independence movement.

That's why Chinese state-run media have praised Macau.

After Hong Kong's 2014 pro-democracy Umbrella Movement,

the People's Daily published an editorial saying,

"Macau people are content and grateful.

Hong Kong people are a bit rebellious and resistant."

Global Times wrote,

"Political stability is the key to Macao's economic development

which ensures social stability.

The One Country Two Systems have maximized Macao's development potential.

And Number 1: Anti-Subversion Law

Imagine police being allowed to burst into your home,

search your stuff, and arrest you without a warrant,

just because you're suspected of "subversion" of the Chinese Communist Party.

Well, Article 23 is a draconian anti-subversion law that could do just that.

In 2003, when Beijing pushed the Hong Kong government to pass it,

half a million Hong Kong citizens took to the streets in protest,

and stopped it.

Macau, on the other hand,

passed Article 23 seven years ago—

with almost no resistance.

Uhh, wait a minute.

Baking Festive Treats - CHRISTMAS 2016 - Duration: 9:35.

Hi guys! My name is Anouk

And today I'm going to make these easy festive treats!

Explaining them step by step!

The first thing I'm going to make, is the chocolate covered marshmallows

First thing I'm going to do, is chop the chocolate..

Into tiny bits

And just melt them!

I'm using white chocolate and milk chocolate

Because I don't really like dark chocolate

..But milk chocolate and white chocolate is okay!

..I like them!

..This is awkward, hurry up!

Okay, now the white chocolate

It looks so gooooooooddd

But it looks even better when it's melted *laughs*

Okay now you're going to put them in the oven!

..And dance, because I don't know why

The next thing I'm going to do, is put sticks in the marshmallows

So I can dip them in the chocolate and decorate them!

When the chocolate has melted..

Just dip the marshmallows in the chocolate

And let them.. dry..

..That's the word, right..

I don't know how to speak English okay

This is going to take forever, so come on, hurry up

Skip forward or something

Yeah- Okay and now you're going to decorate them!

Yayy

And then I'm just going to dip the marshmallows.. into the white chocolate!

Okay when they completely dried..

And you're such an idiot as me..

You can't get them off the plate

So use a knife, or use a fucking spatula or something..

To get them off

The bottom is totally ruined right now, but you won't see that, because you're putting them..

..Just.. exactly like that *laughs*

And then I'm going to remove the..

Milk chocolate thinggsss..

From the plate

Which is also going to take forever- Why didn't I skip this part in the video

Okay! Now..

I'm going to make the bark! So just..

Take some of your melted chocolate

And spread it all over the piece of parchment paper

That's going to take.. forever..

And now is the most fun part..

Decorate your bark!

You can use literally whatever you want!

I used mini pretzels..

Tiny M&M's..

And the tiny sprinkles from the marshmallows

Oh and I also put some tiny pieces of marshmallow on them

After you put all your decorations on the bark..

Just drizzle some white chocolate over everything!

It looks really cool!

And this is how it looks like before it goes into the freezer..

And after it goes in the freezer!

My sister also made some bark..

And you can check it over on her channel- I don't know when she's going to upload it..

But I'll link her channel in the description

Okay when your bark has completely frozen..

Take it off the piece of parchment paper

Be careful!

Then put it into a bowl..

First break it into a few pieces..

And enjoy!

Okay, last thing I'm going to make..

Are these pretzel stars

They are kinda like the stars- the pretzel stars from Zoella's video..

But these are a bit.. smaller

You just want to put four pretzels..

Against each other..

And then pour some white chocolate over it

To attach them

And then.. over that layer, you're going to make another layer

And then attach them all to each other with some more white chocolate

I then put some green and red M&M's on the white chocolate, to make it a bit more festive!

And that was it!

The three easy festive treats

You can put on the table whenever you're having a Christmas party..

Or just whenever you like!

So those were my easy.. festive.. treats! *laughs*

I hope you liked them, I really do like them!

They were so good! *Weird voice* SO GOOD *laughs*

And they are so easy! It took me about two hours..

To make all of them!

So.. I really thought I would be making them.. like..

But I was done after two hours so that's great!

A good way to relieve bloating is to encourage the passage of gas and a bowel movement.

But if you are not able to get rid of the swelling, then try some simple home remedies.

Peppermint

Peppermint contains menthol oil, which has an anti-spasmodic effect on the smooth muscle

of the digestive tract.

This helps relieve spasms in the gastrointestinal tract, bile duct and gallbladder.

It also calms flatulence and helps food move quickly through the stomach.

You can chew fresh mint leaves to relieve bloating.

Hot lemon water

body as well as keeps the body hydrated.

Lemons are rich in vitamins B and C, riboflavin, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, proteins and

Ginger

Ginger is a well-known herb that can be used to reduce gas and bloating.

It contains several active ingredients, including spicy gingerols and shogaols which help reduce

inflammation in the intestines and relax intestinal muscles.

Place five to six thin slices of ginger in a cup and pour boiling water into the bowl.

Cover the cup and let it start for about 10 minutes.

Add a little honey and lemon juice to it and then drink up to three times a day.

Another option is to eat one teaspoon of fresh grated ginger before meals.

You can also grate the ginger root and sprinkle it on your food.

Adults can choose to take from 0.25 to 1 g of powdered ginger root daily.

Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is another effective option to get relief from bloating.

This herbal tea has anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties that can help soothe

Bring a cup of water to a boil.

You can steam, bake or roast, or include it as an ingredient in your recipes.

Bananas

A good source of fiber, bananas can help reduce the swelling and gas associated with constipation.

Bananas also contain potassium, a mineral that helps regulate fluid levels in your body

and gives relief from bloating.

If you eat bananas regularly, you can eliminate the swelling.

You can eat as an appetizer or add to the fruit salads and baked desserts.

Fennel seeds

Fennel seeds are very effective for digestive problems such as swelling due to its carminative,

diuretic, pain-reducing and anti-microbial properties.

Fennel seeds help relieve swelling by relaxing muscle spasms in the digestive tract.

Chew some fennel seeds after eating a large meal.

Add a teaspoon of fennel seeds to 1 cup of hot water.
