10 Disney Characters With Serious Mental Disorders - Duration: 8:13.

When it comes to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses, clinicians and psychologists

have myriad resources at their disposal. But of all the tools available, the DSM-5 is the

holy grail. The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders is a big fat book

that codifies all the illnesses and their complexities. We thought it would be neat

to take a look at some Disney icons through a psychological lens. We're not professionals,

but we did recently graduate from Internet University. So here are 10 Disney Characters

With Serious Mental Disorders. And if you like what you see, stay tuned to hear more

details about our YouTube channel.

Hades, Hercules: Intermittent Explosive Disorder The main antagonist in 1997's Hercules is

literally animated to be a hot-head. And even though Hades is aware of his temper, he just

can't seem to get a handle on it. Suffering embarrassment at the hands of infant Hercules,

the ruler of the Underworld seeks to have the boy killed. Which feels like more than

a slight overreaction. Those afflicted with Intermittent Explosive Disorder are prone

to outbursts and temper tantrums that come about with almost no warning. And, depending

on the person, sometimes ends with injury, property damage, or both. Hades' outbursts

are more intense than the situation calls for, even his underlings are afraid of him.

Alice, Alice in Wonderland: Schizophrenia When thinking about the story of Alice in

Wonderland, three letters come to mind: WTF. And of the many incarnations dedicated to

the classic Lewis Carrol story, Disney is responsible for three. The surreal environments

and bizarre characters add to the story's overwhelming peculiarity. And for as lost

as she looks, Alice seems to be the only one who has any grip on reality. But after learning

about schizophrenia, we began to wonder if maybe we had the whole thing backwards. Audio

and visual phantasms, disorganized thought and speech patterns, and fear of persecution

can all be symptoms of the illness. And Alice is 5 for 5.

Gaston, Beauty and the Beast: Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Here's a guy who has an entire musical number devoted to his malady, Belle's oh-so-charming

suitor, Gaston. And while we thought he was just a turbo-jerk, it turns out the overconfident

oaf has a textbook case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. For evidence, one need only look

at the lyrics of his song — it's three straight minutes of bragging, a hallmark of

the disorder. Signs of NPD include an inflated sense of self and tendency to look down upon

others. Gaston can't handle criticism or rejection but sees himself as the most important,

strongest, admired man who ever lived. Plus, no one can eat 4 dozen eggs in one sitting,

so I guess he's also a liar.

Ariel, Little Mermaid: Hoarding If we learned anything from The Little Mermaid,

it's that the ocean is full of trash. Sunken ships litter the ocean floor, their contents

spilled all over the place. But one water-dweller is single-handedly cleaning up the mess. Ariel

is constantly messing around were she's not supposed to be, collecting discarded pieces

of other people's lives. Her compulsion to collect whozits and whatzits galore puts

strain on her family relationships. And while she might see her activities as "collecting",

it looks a lot more like Hoarding. This branch of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is characterized

by needless accumulation of worthless items. Old cutlery and bottles? Not exactly a priceless

compilation.

Captain Jack Sparrow, Pirates: Alcohol Use Disorder (Alcoholism)

Pirates have a lot of iconography. But peg legs, parrots, and eye patches all pale in

comparison to one thing: booze. Sea-roving is a hard life, and drinking is a nice way

to pass the time — within reason, of course. But Captain Jack Sparrow didn't get the

moderation memo, and his relationship with rum is borderline unhealthy. Professionals

use the term Alcohol Use Disorder (aka 'Alcoholism') to refer to people who can't self-regulate

their drinking. Alcoholics will continue consuming even if it causes them personal problems or

puts them in harms way. Like, say, going on a bender and then stealing a ship. Or throwing

a tantrum when the booze runs out. Stuff like that.

Cruella DeVil, 101 Dalmatians: Psychopathy Every story needs a villain, and Cruella DeVil

is one of Disney's most iconic. The would-be puppy murderer is a straight up psychopath,

and here's how we know. Doctors use a diagnostic tool called the PCL-R when assessing wether

or not a person fits the medical definition of a psychopath. The 20-point checklist references

things like callousness, over-inflated sense of self-worth, and a lack of realistic long-term

goals as indicators. We're not professionals, but engineering an entire scheme that hinges

on the wrangling of 101 puppies quietly and efficiently seems pretty unrealistic. Plus

there's the whole, you know, coat thing.

Scar, The Lion King: Anti-social Personality Disorder

These days, George R. R. Martin gets all the credit for killing your favorite character.

But back in the day, Disney was the finest assassin in town. Famous for murdering an

important parental figure within the first five minutes of any given movie, The Lion

King is no exception. Since we've all spent decades trying to suppress the memory of Mufasa's

death, we're not even gonna go there. Instead, let's chat about the cat responsible — Scar.

He takes no time to think about morality, strong-arms others to get what he wants, and

doesn't learn from bad experiences. Some have hypothesized that Simba's uncle suffers

from anti-social personality disorder, and we're inclined to agree.

Elsa, Frozen: Agoraphobia We can think of a lot of good reasons to stay

home. Netflix, sweatpants, unlimited bathroom breaks… the list goes on. But for people

living with agoraphobia, staying home isn't always a choice. The fear of being surrounded

by people, feeling trapped, or becoming overwhelmed by circumstances can make it impossible for

them to leave the house. With this in mind, take another look at the 2013 juggernaut Frozen,

and pay specific attention to Elsa. Fear of real and imagined scenarios? Check. Avoidance

of populated places? Check. Anxiety about feeling trapped or embarrassed? Check and

check. Granted, most people don't run the risk of accidentally killing everyone they

love with ice when they feel overwhelmed, so it makes sense that Elsa prefers a low

profile.

Captain Hook, Peter Pan: Herpetophobia Anxiety disorders are as varied as they are

intense, and manifest themselves differently in every sufferer. Phobias are a type of anxiety

rooted to a specific thing, and is a fancy-pants way of saying something scares the sh*t out

of you. Take Captain Hook, for example. After mixing it up with a crocodile, Hook runs for

the hills the second they're mentioned. Medically speaking, the Captains aversion

is called Herpetophobia — or fear of reptiles. It's in our best interest to keep a little

space between us and the crocodile, but we aren't constantly worried about being attacked

by one. Hook isn't so lucky.

Rapunzel, Tangled: Stockholm Syndrome Imagine being trapped in a tower with a treacherous

custodian and no agency over your own life. If that sounds like a good time, you might

have Stockholm Syndrome. After the release of Tangled in 2010, people couldn't help

but notice Rapunzel's tendency to side with her malicious captor. And the conversation

is still happening today. A victims attempts to align with, sympathize, or otherwise defend

their jailor is clear indication of the syndrome. And makes absolutely no sense to anyone outside

of the captor/captive relationship. It's clear to the audience that Mother Gothel is

an abusive guardian, but Rapunzel interprets her behavior as being rooted in love, not

power.

White House Planning DEEP Cuts To EPA - Duration: 5:30.

IN ADDITION TO TRY TO KILL THE WATERS OF THE UNITED STATES

RULE, THERE'S OTHER WAYS THAT TRUMP IS ATTACKING THE EPA

IN ITS ABILITY TO PROTECT AMERICAN START FROM DETAILS

FROM PLANS THAT HAVE COME OUT.

THE PLAN IS TO/EPA STASH FROM ITS CURRENT LEVEL OF 25,000

TO 22,000.

IF YOU REALLY ARE WORRIED ABOUT CLEAN AIR AND CLEAN WATER

KILLING OFF 3000 JOBS AT THE EPA SEEMS LIKE A WEIRD WAY TO

DO THAT BUT IT GOES BEYOND THAT.

THE PROPOSAL ALSO DICTATES THE AGENCIES GRANTS TO STATE

INCLUDING ITS AIR AND WATER PRESENT 30% ILLUMINATING

30TH SEVERAL PROGRAMS IN THEIR ENTIRETY.

WERE NOT TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THEM BUT HERE ARE A FEW.

PROGRAMS DESIGNED FOR ZERO FUNDING INCLUDING GRANTS TO FILL

A BROWNFIELDS WHICH ABANDONED INDUSTRIAL SITES, ELECTRONIC

MANIFEST SYSTEM FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE WAS GIVES THE STATISTICS

THAT HELPS IN TRACKING OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION, AND

TERMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS, THEY OPPOSE IS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF

THE INCLUSION OF THE WORD JUSTICE, CLIMATE CHANGE

INITIATIVES OBVIOUSLY AND FUNDING FOR ALASKA NATIVE

VILLAGES.

THE AGENCIES OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COULD FACE

A CUT OF UP TO 42%.

THE DOCUMENT ELIMINATES FUNDING ALTOGETHER FOR THE OFFICES

CONTRIBUTION TO THE US GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH PROGRAM

WHICH WAS SET UP BACK IN 1989 BY GEORGE HW BUSH DURING A

DIFFERENT TIME FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

THAT IS WHAT IS ALREADY HAPPENED OR WHAT HIS PLAN TO HAPPEN.

WE HAVE SOME SPECULATION ABOUT THINGS COMING OUT OF THE

TRUMPET IN ADDITION COULD COME OUT VERY SOON.

JOB IS APPARENTLY LIKELY TO SIGN AN EXECUTIVE ORDER NEXT

WEEK THAT LIVES THE BAN ON NEW FEDERAL COALMINER LEASES

AND START THE PROCESS OF KILLING OTHER OBAMA ERA INITIATIVES

TO COMBAT GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE.

A WHITE HOUSE OFFICIAL SAID RESCINDING FEDERAL COAL

LEASING MORATORIUM AS PART OF THAT EXECUTIVE ORDER WHICH

HAS LOTS OF DIFFERENT COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE CLEAN POWERPLANT.

WE TALK ABOUT A LOT OF WAYS THAT DONALD TRUMP CAN REALLY

KNEECAP THE VARIOUS EFFORTS THAT OBAMA PUT INTO PLACE

SPECIFICALLY TO DEAL WITH CLIMATE CHANGE.

MANY OF THESE LITTLE CHANGES DON'T HAVE MUCH TO DO A CLIMATE

CHANGE BUT THERE IS NOTHING MORE SINGULARLY DAMAGING TO THE

GLOBAL CLIMATE THEN GOAL ADMISSIONS AND THE IDEAL

THAT WE ARE GOING TO DOUBLE DOWN ON: WE HAVE MADE SO MUCH

PROCESSES A SPECIES AND SWITCHING FROM COLD OTHER

FORMS OF ENERGY WHICH ARE CLEANER.

I'M NOT EVEN TALKING THERE ABOUT GEOTHERMAL AND WAVE AND

SOLAR AND ALL OF THAT.

EVEN NATURAL GAS AS FAR CLEANER.

COAL IS IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN.

THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DOUBLE DOWN ON.

THEY WILL CALL IT CLEANER WHATEVER BUT THIS IS THEIR

ATTEMPT TO SQUEEZE EVERY PENNY OUT OF THE GROUND TO MAKE

EVERY PROFIT POSSIBLE EVEN IF IT MEANS ELIMINATING OUR

FUTURE AS A SPECIES.

IF YOU ARE WHITE WINGER I GET IT, YOU DON'T LIKE FAX.

YOU DON'T WANT RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT THAT WHEN TRUMP

SAYS TO CUT THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BUDGET BY 42%

YOU'RE LIKE YES, LESS FAXED I LOVE IT.

GOD HELP US IF WE HAD FAXED WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE CORRECT

DECISIONS I UNDERSTAND THAT PART.

BUT REALLY, YOU DON'T WANT INDUSTRIAL WASTES SITES

NEXT TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TO BE CLEANED UP?

LET'S LOOK AT PRIORITIES.

HE IS GOING TO ADD $54 BILLION TO THE DEFENSE BUDGET.

IT ALREADY TRIPLES ARE SECOND CLOSEST COMPETITOR SO WE

SPENT ABOUT THREE TIMES AS MUCH AS CHINA DOES SO THAT'S NOT

A BIG ENOUGH LEAP?

WE SPEND 36% OF THE ENTIRE MILITARY BUDGET OF THE

WORLD BUT THAT'S NOT A BIG ENOUGH LEAD.

HE HAS TO ADD $54 BILLION ON TOP.

THE EPA TO CLEAN UP INDUSTRIAL WASTE NEXT TO YOU,

1 BILLION IS TOO MUCH.

SO HE IS GOING TO CUT A QUARTER OF THE MONEY GOING TO THE

EPA IN ORDER TO SAVE WHAT?

$2 BILLION SO THAT HE CAN ADD $54 BILLION TO DEFENSE SPENDING.

IS IT BECAUSE THE DEFENSE SPENDING IS GOING TO MAKE A

SAFER?

IT ALLOWS THEM TO DEMAGOGUE AND SAY NO I CAN ONLY PROTECT

YOU AND IT GIVES MONEY TO THE DEFENSE CONTRACTORS WHO

DONATE TO REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS AND IF YOUR KID IS PLAYING

NEAR AN INDUSTRIAL WASTE SITE, TOO BAD THAT YOU DIDN'T

GIVE ME A CAMPAIGN DONATION AND NEITHER DID YOUR KID.

I AM GOING TO CUT THE HELL OUT OF THE EPA THAT PROTECTS YOU AND

I'M GOING TO GIVE GIANT UNBELIEVABLE CONTRACTS TO THE

DEFENSE CONTRACTORS WHO SUPPORT ME AND IT IS ALL ABOUT THE

PRIORITIES.

WHEN THEY SAY THEY DON'T HAVE MONEY FOR THE EPA, THAT IS

THE BIGGEST LIE YOU'VE EVER HEARD.

THEY'VE EVERY PLENTY OF MONEY IT'S JUST A QUESTION OF

WHERE THEY PUT IT.

NOW WE'RE MASSIVELY OUT OF TIME.

SECOND HOUR COMING UP.

FIRST OF ALL, EVERYONE CHECK OUT YOUTUBE.COM/THINKTANK.

JOHN AND HANNAH DO A WONDERFUL PROGRAM THERE.

IN THE NEXT HOUR, THEY'RE NOW TARGETING SPECIFIC IMMIGRANTS

ONE BY ONE AND IF YOU MAKE A POLITICAL STATEMENT AGAINST THE

TRUMP TEAM AND YOU ARE UNDOCUMENTED, THEY WILL

LITERALLY REMOVE YOU FROM THE COUNTRY.

WHEN I SAID IT THEY WILL TARGET THEIR POLITICAL OPPONENTS AND I

SAID IT FROM DAY ONE, PEOPLE WERE LIKE NO, THAT'S TOO ñ

POLITICAL OPPONENTS?

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO THAT.

THEY HAVE ALREADY BEGUN.

Using Quick Edit and Quick Docs - Dreamweaver CC Beta - First Look - Duration: 6:14.

One of the biggest changes in the new version of Dreamweaver CC is the integration of Brackets

as the code editor.

In this video, we'll look at two great features for working with CSS, Quick Edit, and Quick

Docs.

If you're not familiar with Brackets, it's a modern, open source editor, developed by

Adobe.

Brackets will continue as a separate project, but Dreamweaver users get the benefit of a

completely rewritten code base that's powered by HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

At the time of recording this video, the Brackets website talks about using code hints to extract

layers from a Photoshopped file.

That service is being withdrawn from the free version of Brackets, but you'll still be able

to use the extract panel in Dreamweaver CC.

But let's get back to the beater, and see how to use CSS Quick Edit.

It works with HTML elements, classes, and IDs.

So let's start with an HTML element.

You need to place your cursor inside the name of the html tag, either the opening tag, or

the closing tag, it doesn't really matter.

I'm going to put it inside the opening H1 tag, on line 25, and then press ctrl+e on

Windows, or cmd+e on a Mac.

And that slides open a window.

Inside, if any styles have been applied to the current element, they're displayed.

And at the top left, it tells you where those styles are defined.

These are defined in an external style sheet, aboutPageStyle.css.

Now if now styles have been applied to the current element, you just get this new rule

button.

And if you click that new rule button, it creates a new selector for the element at

the bottom of the style sheet, ready for editing.

But take a look at the line numbers.

This H1 tag is on line 25.

Inside here, the line numbers are 38, 39, and so on, so those are the line numbers inside

the external style sheet.

But back here in the html, the next line is 26.

So this is a really great feature.

It's rather like the parting of the waves.

Instead of the editable window hiding the code in the webpage, it's sandwiched between

the selected tag and the following line.

So let's do a quick edit.

Let's change the color of this heading.

So I'm gonna click inside the color value here, and we get a little preview of the current

color.

It's a rather dull gray.

But if I hold down the ctrl key on both Windows and Mac, and press the spacebar, up pops the

color picker.

So let's see if we can use a more lively color.

So just slide across there and click away.

And, it updates the color of that heading.

So it's a really quick and easy way to edit something in situ.

To close this editable window, just click the x at the top left, or you could use the

same keyboard shortcut, ctrl+e on Window, or cmnd+e on a Mac.

Let's take a look at using it with a class.

You can either put the cursor inside the attribute class itself, or inside its value, and then

you press ctrl+e or cmd+e, depending on your operating system, and that opens the same

window.

This time, we've got three definitions.

They're all in aboutPageStyle.css.

The first one here is on line 192, and we can see that it says text align center.

We're actually left aligned here, so obviously that doesn't apply to our current selection.

What's happened here is that we've got media queries in this page.

And if we select the next one, we can see the text align is left there, and it's also

text align left at the bottom.

So, either the second one or the third one applies to our current selection.

The Quick Edit window gives you no indication of the break points that media queries apply

to, so it really is literally quick edit.

You do need to know the structure of your style sheet to select the correct one.

But of course if you've organized your style sheets logically, that should be quite easy.

So let's just close that.

Ctrl+e, cmd+e to close it, and then I'm going to switch to the style sheet, code view, and

then scroll all the way to the top.

Quick Docs is a very useful way to learn how to use certain CSS properties.

It works in a very similar way.

You just click inside the property that you want to inspect.

I'm gonna click inside display on line 15.

And then press ctrl+k on Windows, or cmd+k on a Mac, and that slides open a window, which

describes how the property works.

There's the description of display, and then these are all the values that you can use

with display.

The information here is constantly kept up to date, because it's drawn directly from

webplatform.org, which is a collaborative project of the W3C, Adobe, Apple, and other

leading organizations involved with web standards.

And if you click this read more button down at the bottom, it loads your browser and takes

you to the relevant page on the web platform site.

This page has got a green stripe down the side.

That indicates that the page is ready to use.

Yellow means almost ready, orange, in progress, and red, not ready.

But the page contains more details about the properties, the values it accepts, and there're

also some examples of how to use it.

So that's how to use CSS Quick Edit and Quick Docs in the Dreamweaver CC beater.

Quick Edit is particularly useful for making quick adjustments to styles that affect a

specific HTML tag, class, or ID.

Click in the tag name, attribute, or value, and press ctrl+e or cmd+e to open an editable

window in code view.

Quick Docs works similarly.

Click anywhere in the name of a CSS property, and press ctrl+k or cmd+k to access a wealth

of information about how to use the property.

Integrated Sass and LESS CSS preprocessors - Dreamweaver CC Beta - First Look - Duration: 6:18.

The Dreamweaver CC beta has integrated support for the two main CSS preprocessors, LESS and

SASS.

In previous versions support was limited to code coloring, but Dreamweaver can now also

compile the CSS output.

Even if you've never used a CSS preprocessor, this is certainly worth trying out.

SASS is the more popular of the two, so to give you just a little taste of using SASS

in the new version of Dreamweaver CC, I've created a folder called scss in my First Look

site.

It contains three files, _about.scss, _variables.scss and aboutPageStyle.scss.

The first file contains a copy of the original style rules created by Dreamweaver for the

about page, but I've replaced some of the colors with variables, such as color-background

here.

Then a bit further down we've got color-headings and color-highlight.

The definition of those variables is in the next file, and the last one, aboutPageStyle.scss,

is currently blank.

I've given it the same base name as the original style sheet attached to the page so when SASS

compiles the styles, they'll be saved to the original style sheet.

To set up SASS or LESS for the current site, you need to edit the site definition.

So let's go to the Site menu and select Manage Sites.

We've got the First Look site selected.

We need to Edit it by clicking this icon.

Then in the Site Setup dialog box, there's a new section, CSS Preprocessors.

Expand that and then select the General section.

At the time of recording this video, this checkbox Enable compilation is selected by

default, but this might change in future so make sure that this is selected if you want

to compile either LESS or SASS.

Then you've got the different options for LESS and then for SASS/SCSS.

The default Output file style is nested.

This indents each rule to reflect the structure of the HTML.

Then you've got other options.

Compact puts each declaration on a single line, compressed minifies the styles by removing

all the spaces and line breaks, and expanded puts each property on a line of its own, which

makes the style sheet easy to read.

So I'm going to select expanded.

Now at the time of recording this video, Create Source Comments doesn't do anything.

So we'll leave that deselected.

Next we need to go to Source & Output.

The CSS Output can either be in the same folder as the source, or you can Define the output

folder.

So let's Define the output folder.

Click this icon here, and I want the output folder to be exactly the same as the original

style sheet, so it's AboutPageAssets and then styles.

Select that folder and we also need to select the Source Folder.

So select that and it's the scss folder that contains all our source files.

So that's everything selected.

There are several other options here.

Compass is an open source CSS framework based on SASS.

Then Bourbon is a lightweight mixin library for SASS.

Bourbon Neat is a grid framework built on top of Bourbon, and Bourbon Bitters is a set

of prestyled components.

If you want to use any of these, just click the Install Files button and Dreamweaver will

install all the necessary files for you.

I'm not gonna do that.

I'm just gonna use the Source and Output Folders that I've defined, so click Save and then

Done.

The two SCSS files with names that begin with an underscore are known as partials and they're

similar to modules.

So you can organize all your text styles in one, have another for forms, another for images

and so on.

To generate the style sheet you need to import the variables and the existing style rules

from those partials.

You do that with @import.

The first one that I need to import is variables.

Notice that you don't need the leading underscore or .scss.

The next one is also @import about, and then I just Save that.

If I go back to about.html, everything has changed.

We've got a new background color, the headings are a different color.

We've got a highlight color for the horizontal rules, and the text is now a darker gray.

But the really powerful aspect of using variables in SASS is that you don't need to go all the

way through your style sheet to change the values.

So let's go to this variables here.

What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna swap the value of color-headings, so I'm just gonna cut that.

Paste it in as color-highlight.

I need to select the value for color-highlight, cut that, and paste it into color-headings.

Save that and if we go back to about.html, those values have now been swapped over.

So that's really just a simple example of using SASS in the Dreamweaver CC beta.

At the time of recording this video, it's difficult to make changes to an SCSS file

and see the results simultaneously in Live View, at least in the Windows version, or

if you have the Application Frame turned on in the Mac version.

That's because SCSS files aren't directly linked to the webpage, so you can't access

them in Split View through the Related Files toolbar.

However, this problem should go away when Live Preview is integrated into Dreamweaver

later in the beta because you'll be able to see the page update in real time in a separate

browser.

If you don't have any experience of CSS preprocessors, why don't you check out Sass Essential Training

with Ray Villalobos here in the Lynda.com Online Training Library.

Code View improvements - Dreamweaver CC Beta - First Look - Duration: 6:32.

Editing code has become much more user friendly and productive in this version of Dreamweaver

thanks to improvements to code hints, auto completion, multiple cursors, and keyboard

shortcuts.

Let's say I want to add a background color to this header style rule here.

Just add in an extra line and start typing.

As soon as I do code hints come up and down at the bottom of the panel is a description

of the currently selected property.

If I continue typing so I've got background color, there's the description of background

color.

And if you need more information just click the icon at the top right and this opens the

relevant page on the Mozilla Development Network with more details and examples.

And code hints for JavaScript properties and methods have similar descriptions.

I just want background color so press Enter or Return and that pops up a list of color

keywords with a swatch showing what to expect from each one.

And if you start typing the list is automatically filtered, selecting values that contain those

letters even if they're not at the beginning of the word.

If you want to choose your own color from the color picker just type hash or pound sign,

that pops up the color picker for hexadecimal.

If you want it to be rgba just start typing rbg, that pops up the color picker with rgba

selected.

You could also do the same with hsla.

With hsla you need to insert the opening parenthesis that not only pops up the color picker, notice

that Dreamweaver has also automatically inserted the closing parenthesis, the matching parenthesis.

So that's a nice useful addition in this version of Dreamweaver.

Let's just choose a color at random and add some alpha transparency, click away, and there

is that hsla value which has been inserted.

When you're applying a color with alpha transparency you should always provide a solid background

color as a fallback for older browsers.

With this version of Dreamweaver, no problem.

With the insertion point anywhere in the line press Control + D on Windows or Command +

D on a Mac and it duplicates the line.

Then put the cursor inside the first value, that's the hsla value and as long as the style

sheet is the active document press Control + E or Command + E and that will bring up

the color picker with the current color already selected.

And to convert it to hexadecimal just click Hex, click away, and the conversion is done

automatically for you by Dreamweaver.

Let's say you want to disable a property.

Just click anywhere inside a line and then press Control + / on Windows or Command +

/ on a Mac and Dreamweaver comments out the line.

This also works with HTML, JavaScript, and PHP and Dreamweaver is savvy enough to know

which type of comment to apply.

To re-enable a line just use the same keyboard shortcut again to remove the comment tags

Control + / or Command + /. If you decide you don't want a particular line of code just

click anywhere inside it then hold down Control + Shift on Windows or Command + Shift on a

Mac and press D. The line is gone and let's give it to that one too.

And notice that now my cursor is right next to the closing curly brace.

Dreamweaver has highlighted the opening curly brace and in fact when you're typing Dreamweaver

automatically inserts closing braces and closing quotation marks.

And Code View now supports multiple cursors.

To work with that let's switch to the HTML and select Source Code and scroll down a little

bit and then here we've got a selection of spans.

I'm just going to click after the first span before that closing angled bracket.

Hold down the Alt and Shift keys on Windows or the Option and Shift keys on Mac and press

the up or down arrow to add a cursor above or below the current selection.

So I'm pressing the down arrow and it's now adding that cursor to each extra line.

And if I start typing everything moves together and I can now put in line style.

When I type that double quote there we get the closing quote automatically inserted with

the insertion point left between them and then I can put in say color red and to return

to an ordinary cursor just press Escape or click away anywhere else on the page.

You can also create column selections by holding down the Alt or Option key and dragging.

So I'm gonna click to the left of span, hold down the Alt key on Windows or the Option

key on a Mac and then just drag across and down and that's selected all of the opening

span tags.

To add noncontiguous selections hold down the Control key on Windows or the Command

key on Mac and just select again.

So I'm now selecting the closing span tags.

I've got all of them and I can now make the same edit to all selections so I'll change

them all to strong.

Before finishing this overview of changes to Code View I must point out that to tidy

up your code Apply Source Formatting has now been moved to the Edit menu.

It just goes to the Edit menu and it's here on the Code submenu, Apply Source Formatting

I've also applied source formatting to a selection.

This was previously on the Commands menu but the Commands menu has now been removed from

this version of Dreamweaver.

If you work with a lot of code I think you're going to love working with this version of

Dreamweaver.

Not all features from brackets have been integrated into the first beta but there is more to come

including a major overhaul of Find and Replace.

It's also planned to enable the installation of brackets extensions into Dreamweaver allowing

you to choose exactly which features you want to improve your productivity.

Tell Adobe what you think - Dreamweaver CC Beta - First Look - Duration: 1:18.

So what do you think about this new version of Dreamweaver?

Adobe wants to hear your opinion and has made it easy to send your feedback, feature requests,

and book reports.

Make sure you're connected to the internet then click this icon at the top right of the

screen.

When the form loads, type your comments into this text area and if you're filing a bud

report try to give brief details of how to reproduce the problem and do remember this

is a beater.

Not all features are yet complete.

You can also attach a file by clicking this icon at the bottom left.

Now some things that I would like to see is a way to move the current line of code up

or down so I'm gonna add my feedback in there.

And then when you've added your comments, just click next.

It asks you for a title so I'll make it keyboard shortcuts.

And then post the idea.

And the idea has been posted to the feedback forum and that's all you need to do.

But Adobe plans to release updated versions of the beater at regular intervals so that

brings to an end this brief tour of the public beater of the next major version of Dreamweaver

CC.

I hope you found it useful.

Thanks for watching.

The Unholy Trinity that can Doom Affair Recovery - Duration: 6:36.

Hi there, my name is Athol and in this video I'm going to talk about what I'm starting

to call the unholy trinity, the three in sort of a constellation of three factors that when

I see it I just sort of have to shake my head and step back and go this situation is not

fixable.

And you've got to understand, I've been dealing with relationships and writing on the internet

since mid-2009 and maybe I'm a little bit egotistical, a little bit narcissistic, but

I'm pretty much in love with my abilities to take any kind of relationship and find

a way to improve it and make it better and smooth it out and get a couple to a happy

place.

I really do believe I have immense skill with this.

So when I say I see a situation and I see three factors together and I'm calling it

the unholy trinity, and I'm saying I'm stepping back and shaking my head and going this is

not fixable.

I make money off trying to fix people's relationship problems and I go, I would feel terrible if

I'm taking your money.

So let me talk to you what the unholy trinity is.

And this is where I see an affair situation, and bear in mind there's a lot of affair situations

that are fixable, but when I see these three factors together with an affair situation

that is just like no good.

So point number one, where in the marriage itself if you go back to the beginning of

the relationship there was not a whole lot of attraction, not a whole lot of sex, not

a whole lot of passion, stemming from the partner in particular who ended up having

the affair.

So one half of the couple can be really into them but if the other half of the couple is

just kind of flat, kind of muted but they still get married anyway, that sort of low

water mark of interest, that to me is a red flag anyway.

Factor number two, the affair that they have is really deep, really intense, particularly

torrid.

They are doing all kinds of crazy sexual stuff with their affair partner that they pretty

much never did with their partner, that really over the top dramatic movie like sexual experience

affair where it's just over the top or intense, or even when it ends they have almost a complete

freaking breakdown.

So basically the key point is the affair itself is insanely emotionally intense compared to

their relationship that they've had.

The third part of this unholy trinity is that once the affair is discovered, once the affair

is stopped, that there is no real progress with the marriage and the couple, the spouse

that had the affair is now just devolving into that sort of completely jaded, withdrawn

ice princess unaffected, cold, distant interaction with their partner.

When I see these three factors together: One, they weren't really interested at the beginning.

Two the affair was super intense and torrid.

And three once it's discovered they just go into this icy super low interaction with their

partner.

I don't think I've ever seen a relationship recover when I've seen those three factors

together.

I've seen them survive.

I've seen them go through the motions.

I've seen them stay together and there may not be any kind of abuse or there may not

be any kind of major blowups, it may all be very sociable, but I've never seen any sense

of passion and excitement inject itself back into the marriage.

They are now just going through the motions and treading water and that's all it is and

I think all it will ever be.

I don't think I've ever seen a marriage recover from these factors.

If you have an affair situation where you can say, hey look, back at the beginning of

the relationship it was really good.

We had seven really good years and two crappy ones and the affair happened in year nine

and we can see some explanations of why it happened and the person is genuinely apologetic

and wants to get back together and work on things and is trying to reach out and re-establish

trust and all that, well there's a lot, there's a reasonable degree of hope there.

But when there was no interest, no interest from the beginning and the affair was just

super intense and then when they're caught it's just this ice princess completely jaded,

no interaction thing.

I've never seen it get better.

I've never seen it get better.

And so this may be really harsh but I think when you see that you just have to accept

the relationship was never there from the beginning and it may be really hard in the

short term but probably your best chance of happiness is calling it quits and trying to

have some sort of amicable divorce and trying to find someone who will actually love you.

So on that sort of sad, down, jaded note, realistic.

I will catch you next time.

Vegan Ruins School Lunch - Duration: 14:41.

They usually hang them up, they kill them, they stick their hand down into their body

cavities and rip out their organs.

Hi, it's Emily from Bite Size Vegan with another vegan nugget.

I had the honor of speaking in two classes at the Passaic Valley Regional High school

in New Jersey.

I was invited to spend some time with a passionate vegan student Alyssa, that's her: "Hi,

I'm Alyssa, I was the one who contacted you to set up the conference", and her attentive

peers who listened to me ramble on quite a bit about all manner of animal rights and

vegan topics.

This was part of a unique class called 'Contemporary Issues Through Video Conferencing' run by

Ms. Kathleen Menake.

The class invites guests speakers to utilize technology to create an interactive classroom

and speak with individuals in diverse fields all over the world.

So I wanted to share with you guys a segment from one of the classes.

I apologize for the rapid speaking in this, i was really excited to try to fit in as many

vegan 'nuggets' as possible in these 45 minute classes.

Captions are available for your convenience and as always, for more information please

see the description below and the blog post.

Now it's time to go back to high school, where i was always the cool kid...

Alyssa: I just want to know if you can explain a little bit more about the relationship that our government—

or just governments in general—have with the agricultural and the factory farming and dairy industries

…kind of the money that might be exchanged or the power within and things like that.

Okay, I would love to talk about that.

The government, especially in America, but I think other countries

that I've looked into as well, the regulatory bodies that are supposed to regulate animal

agriculture like in America, the USDA, also have a vested interest: the USDA also

benefits from more animal products being sold, so they're self regulating.

What we do in America—they stopped doing this in Europe—but in America for chickens,

once we've killed them and taken off their feathers and everything we soak the carcasses

in these things called tanks.

They just pop them into this water that this one industry specialist calls 'fecal soup'

because the chickens, they've still got a lot of their feces and they weren't flushed

out well because they're supposed to —well what they do is— they usually hang them

up, they kill them, they stick their hand down into their body cavities and rip out

their organs and everything.

They're supposed to them flush out, flush out all the poop and everything.

Doesn't always work that way because we've also assembly lined 'faster and faster', which

is how workers lose arms and everything.

So by the time they get to the water, they still have fecal matter and stuff on them.

But you know chicken producers they get paid per weight most of the time, so the heavier

the bird is the better.

So they'll actually even inject them with more water

or let them sit there and kinda [indicates swelling of carcass with hands].

So it's like yeah, you've got more chicken— it's just kind of bloated with some poop-water for ya'!

It's kind of astounding, but the USDA is like, "well a certain level of fecal matter is

ok. Just cook it".

One of the more recent speeches I did it was in Dublin, Ireland.

And when I was putting this together—Ireland is kind of—you know when people talk about

free range, grass fed, small farms, Ireland is the embodiment of that: the entire country

does it that way.

So all of the dairy cattle there— they're very big on dairy, all of the dairy cattle

are grass fed out in the beautiful Irish fields— what they don't talk about though, that they

do have industrial pig farming and chicken farming.

But what I did in that speech—and I'm going to be tying this into what you've asked in

a second— is one thing I like to do, there are so many horror stories that I can show

people, I can show graphic abuse of animals that even meat-eaters are like "this is wrong,

we shouldn't be doing this to them."

And sometimes it can shock people into waking up.

But I think it also leaves this door open for, "well we just need to treat them better".

So what I think is more effective is to say, "Ok, let's look at the ideal.

Let's look at what we as a society have said "this is acceptable".

So if we look at the ideal, and even that is not acceptable to us— then it might be

time to change.

One of the things I've done very often in a lot of my research especially going to Portugal

in Ireland but in America as well, is I look at the legislation and sometimes it takes

months and months of digging into, like the EU legislation, because I have yet to find

a country that makes it really easy to find everything.

For one thing, in America, I think one thing that people don't always realize, is that

we have no federal law protecting the treatment of farmed animals, there's nothing, there's

no regulation as to how they should be treated federally.

There's also something called 'Common Farming Exemptions', which basically means if something

is done enough across industry—if enough people do this even if it's awful— we are

going to call it standard practice and it's okay.

So in this Ireland speech, I was going way, way deep into the legislation —because the

EU has some of what's lauded as the most widest range protection for animals, great legislation—

because in this thing called 'The Treaty of Lisbon' the EU basically was the first

governmental body to legally say that animals are sentient, so it's actually in their legislation,

"animals are sentient".

So what they decided from that —now that they're sentient and we've acknowledged that

they can feel these emotions and they can hurt— the conclusion wasn't "now maybe

we shouldn't kill them" —no— "now we're going to make sure we design the right ways

to kill them".

So then they launched these different studies and everything to try and figure out how do

we kill them and then they drafted this thing called, 'The Protection For Animals at the

Time of Killing', which sounds absurd and if you really look in there, one of the things

I like to talk about is the male chicks in the egg industry.

In the egg industry, the chickens who are laying eggs for human consumption, males can't

do that.

And the way that we've specialized things: we have 'layer hens' and then we have 'broiler'

chickens.

So the chickens that you eat are different than the chickens who have eggs.

So the male chickens of the egg industry, there's no use for them, so then the industry

—the egg industries the world over no matter how big or little— have to figure out what

do we do with all these male baby chicks.

So in every country they're killed.

I mean there's nothing else to do with them!

And it's either through gassing them, suffocating them, or grinding them alive.

Grinding seems to be the preferred thing.

In the EU legislation —this landmark stuff that you hear in the news— "maceration",

it's hard to kill chicks, throw them in the grinder!

In America too it's the standard.

Ireland, it's the standard.

And the reason that they did this —I dug deep enough to find what's called the 'Impact

Assessment'— where they're deciding how they're gonna kill these animals.

And of course the people on the panel are the egg industry, the dairy industry, a company

called Butina —which I'll talk about in a second— and they have in there, if we

gas the chicks, it's going to cost this many euros... and that's expensive!

If we grind them up, studies have shown that it's a negligible cost —it's pretty cheap—

so what do they put in the humane legislation?

Grind them up!

Grind up the baby boys.

And you know, there's actually now a number of companies that have spent at least a million

—I don't know if they've gotten into the billions of dollars— trying to research

a way to sex the eggs before they're hatched.

So we can determine which ones are going to be boys and then we'll just throw those eggs

away so they don't hatch and we won't have to kill them.

Because the legislation usually says –if there is any— that they have to be killed

within the first three days of life.

Now we're gonna spend years and probably at the end at least 1 billion dollars trying

to figure out how to tell if it's a baby boy.

So when it hatches, we don't have to kill him.

And it's kind of like, if we step back from it, maybe we just shouldn't eat the eggs!

Maybe we could think about that —that maybe we shouldn't be doing this— because it's

kind of ridiculous.

So that's something where I think...

I have yet to meet a person who eats eggs that would wake up in the morning, take a

little fluffy yellow chick, throw him in a blender, and blend him up for breakfast!

But, when you eat eggs, that's what's happening!

You just don't see it, and you don't want to connect to it.

But there's no way to have eggs without that happening.

Because the baby boys are waste, they're just waste material.

So this one company is trying to develop this sexing technique, they assume it's like 3.2

billion baby chicks are killed worldwide every year.

And then the EU has their actual number listed, in the multiple millions.

So, when we look at these kinds of legislations ,this is our ideal, our humane ideal of how

to treat these animals.

And in the dairy industry, baby boys there are also waste material because dairy cows

produce milk!

Boys aren't going to produce milk.

A mother cow has a baby, and if he's a boy he's either taken to the veal industry, — which

a lot of people even meat eaters sometimes are like "I'm not going to eat veal it's just

cruel"— so he's shuttled either to the veal industry, where he's tied up, can't move and

is slaughtered when he is a couple days old.

Or sometimes they just shoot him in the head or they'll bludgeon him, they'll just beat

him, beat him in the head hope that they're going to die at some point, they don't really

check on them.

They are waste.

They're waste material.

Veal is the ideal because at least someone can make a profit from this baby.

And in the pig industry, in America too —it's another humane thing if you look in the EU

too— one of the ways to kill piglets that are either deformed, or a runt or their sick,

or too sick there's no financial reason or gain, or it's too expensive to fix them.

It's something called 'blunt force'.

So what they do is pick up the baby pigs by the legs and they smack their heads on the

concrete, and that's a humane approved thing.

So in America —we had this expose happen of undercover footage— and a lot of the

news articles said things like "workers were filmed beating baby pigs against the pavement

and they were still twitching for days later".

Because there were undercover people, they would document how long it took these piglets

to die.

But the things that the news articles will never tell you, because you will also find

news articles about, "undercover" footage showing baby chicks being thrown in a grinder.

And it's salacious and everyone goes "oh my gosh this is horrible we have to stop this".

But then they keep eating eggs, and they keep eating bacon, and they keep eating pork, and

they keep drinking milk.

The connection that's not being made is that this isn't undercover abuse, this is standard

industry practice.

You know, it's just not something the articles usually cover.

So we get this impression that it's just one place where these people were doing this horrible

thing —no— there's nothing illegal about that.

And in that expose of this pig place —workers were also abusing mother pigs because it was

a pig breeding facility—so they were beating the pregnant pigs, jamming rods into their

orifices, just horrible stuff.

And one of the leading humane specialists in the country is Temple Grandin, if you've

ever heard of her, she commented on one of these articles, "this is outrageous abuse"

—she's talking about the mother pigs— they say something about the baby pigs, "that's

standard practice that's fine, but what they're doing to the mothers, horrible".

So in one of my more recent videos, I list all of these offenses, all of these things

that are seen in this undercover investigation from the baby pigs and the mother pigs.

And if you didn't know the laws and you looked at these two, I don't know if anyone would

be able to be like "this one's okay, this one's not, this one's okay, this one's not".

Ripping out the baby boys testicles with no anesthetic?

Oh that's totally fine —because that's what happens— you cut off their tails, you clip

their teeth, you pull out their testicles, no anesthetic is required at all.

And I think if people don't know the law they assume that's some kind of abuse that's going

to be corrected, but it's not, it's completely legal.

And it's just one of the things that in this EU document as well, they talk about the CO2

chambers —and that's Butina the company I was telling you about— it's the way to

kill pigs these days, it kind of seems like the most humane way.

So pigs are kind of lowered into this CO2 chamber —the biggest ones it's almost like

a giant rotisserie— they go in there, they get lowered, and basically they burn from

the inside out and they scream.

I've been to these places, I've been to one in Manchester in the UK, the walls were thin

enough you could hear the churning, you could hear the workers slapping the pigs, you could

hear them screaming for blocks and it's terrifying when they scream.

So it's not a calm death.

It's not a friendly death.

It's not a humane death!

There's no such thing.

But this is what we look at.

It's like "ok well, the gas is like the most humane thing" and it's anything but!

On that impact assessment of course, there's Butina: "Hey!

We're here, we're gonna help figure out what's the best way to kill these pigs".

And also if you buy a lot of these chambers, we'll make a crap ton of money.

But don't worry, we're not biased.

So, in the legislation, CO2 chambers are the thing.

But there is something in the legislation: we're gonna reconsider this at some point.

This, and electric baths for chickens, we're gonna reconsider that.

But the Impact Assessment deemed that it's not financially viable right now.

The laws that we have—even at the ideal, even if we don't look at abuse—the laws

that our governments have, the regulations that we have, it's pretty horrifying.

There is no way to make dairy without taking baby boys from their mothers, and even the

baby girls get taken, immediately after birth.

They're shuttled elsewhere and then they can grow up and be a big milk machine too.

And cows can live 20 to 25 years.

In the dairy industry, they usually give out and they become what we call 'downers'

around 4 to 5 years old, because they are just serially impregnated again and again

and again.

As soon as they've had a baby, artificial insemination again, they get another round.

And then every time their babies are taken from them.

I have a friend who used to be a cattle farmer—or she married a multi-generation cattle farmer—

and she just... there was one too many times where they'd take the babies away and the

mothers are chasing the trailer as their babies leave.

And then they cry for days—I mean they just cry out for their babies until they go hoarse

and they can't cry anymore.

And she was like "I can't do this.

I can't do this anymore".

There is an article I found from Massachusetts, where there was Sunshine Dairy Farms, a little

farm there.

Neighbors were calling the police because the cows would not stop screaming out.

And the police issued a report: "Ok we talked to the farmers.

Don't worry!

The cows are fine.

It's just the normal part of the dairy industry, 'cause they're upset that their babies

were taken.

Don't worry.

It's fine.

It's ok.

They're fine".

So even when we acknowledge the fact that they are grieving the loss of their children,

oh, but because it's standard practice it's okay.

So it's really just interesting, we have such a divide in our minds.

Like pigs —pigs have mannerisms very much like dogs— we would never do the things

we do to pigs that we do to dogs [sic].

And even Americans get super outraged about the Yulin Dog Festival.

You know, people in that country eating dogs, that's not cool.

And never would I say that is.

But if who we can eat and who we can't eat is determined by where we are living.

That kind of gives evidence that this isn't a logical based decision of ours.

Yet we have the audacity to hold this legislative recognition of non-human sentience on high

as a giant step forward for the rights of animals.

As if systematically exploiting individuals with fully admitted knowledge and comprehension

of their capacity to suffer is something to commend.

Look what we offer ourselves as evidence of progress: one news report extolled the reduction

in animals slipping and falling on their way to slaughter in one abattoir in one country.

When we look at our actions from the other side, the perverse absurdity of our deluded

self-congratulations is astounding.

If you were in the place of these beings, how grateful would you feel if your captor

laid down a bathmat on the ramp to your execution?
