Hi, this is Dr. Hourglass, and welcome to another video in our channel Star Bodies.

Today we are going to discuss "What test do I need to take before a tummy tuck?

In this channel we discuss everything you need to know

to get that star body that you want.

Welcome back!

A tummy tuck is an invasive procedure that requires you to be completely healthy.

Prior to surgery, there are certain things that are needed to make sure

you are in excellent physical condition.

For the most part, complex tests such as X-rays or CT scans are not required before surgery,

but basic blood tests are necessary prior to surgery.

Typically, a CBC and basic electrolyte count are important.

For example, the CBC will indicate if you have anemia, meaning your blood levels

are below 30 hematocrits and does not make you a good candidate for surgery.

Whenever liposuction and/or a tummy tuck is performed, some bleeding occurs during the procedure.

Your blood count will slightly decrease, depending on the amount of blood loss that occurs.

If you are an anemic, this may put your health at risk.

In addition, a basic metabolic profile is also required.

This is going to tell us if you have any problems with sodium, potassium, or any basic electrolytes

that might need to be corrected prior to the procedure.

In my practice, patients are required to make sure that their blood sugar is controlled,

along with taking a CBC count and basic metabolic profile test.

If all the results of these tests are clear and you are deemed as an eligible candidate

in all other aspects, we can proceed in performing the surgery.
