What's up, guys?
For Complex News, I'm Natasha Martinez.
It looks like the on-again, off-again artistic partnership between Rich Homie Quan and Young
Thug may be just a phone call away from being in the "on again" phase.
In an interview published Friday by Fader, Quan said that he's more than ready to start
working with Thug again.
"It was never no bad blood, it was just on pause.
Whenever he wants to press play, I want to press play.
I wish him the best and he wish the same for me."
Quan told Miami radio station 99 Jamz a similar thing earlier this month, saying that while
the two former Rich Gang members don't talk, there are no hard feelings between them.
He gave a similar line to Hot New Hip Hop in late April, saying that just because they
collaborated once doesn't mean that they'll always be a unit.
"We don't have any bad terms, it's just like, now we're solo artists, you feel me?
I think people forget that we were always supposed to be solo artists, we just happened
to collaborate on a project.
There was never supposed to be another project like that."
Renewed talk of Quan and Thug's relationship was sparked at the beginning of May, when
Thugger shared a now-deleted Instagram post that had a snippet of a song with the two
rappers, along with a caption implying the track would appear on Thug's upcoming album
Easy Breezy Beautiful Thugger Girls.
Quan confirmed to Fader that it was in fact him on the song, though the tune wasn't new.
"The song is old...
I saw that he put at the bottom of his thing 'Eazy Breezy Beautiful Thugger Girls' so I
don't know if it's gonna be on there because I haven't been called to clear it yet.
[The video is] probably just his way of saying, 'Yo what's up Quan.'"
Quan and Thug first worked together on the 2014 mixtape Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1.
The two were close enough that Thug sometimes referred to Quan as his "hubby."
But in February of the following year, Quan announced he was leaving Rich Gang to go solo.
The following month, Thug appeared to dis his former group-mate at a concert—a move
that hurt Quan's feelings.
Months afterward, there was an announcement of a still-unreleased second Rich Gang project,
though it was never clear if Quan was meant to be involved in that.
All we can do now is hope that Thug or Quan picks up the phone, so that they can press
play and begin making music together again.
