Breast augmentation,Breast Reduction-Correcting methods for asymmetric breast-Dr.Cortes - Duration: 7:00.

Hi, this is Dr. Hourglass, and welcome to another video in our channel Wonder Breasts.

Today we are going to discuss: Correction methods for asymmetric breasts.

In this channel we discuss everything related to breast surgery.

Welcome back!

A significant number of women are looking at plastic surgery interventions because

they have asymmetrical breasts.

Be that as it may, it is important to remember that by nature, breasts are not perfectly symmetrical.

One breast is usually bigger than the other and this affects more than half of all women.

Usually, the asymmetries are more visible after pregnancy or other traumatic events

that changes the size, volume and shape of the breasts.

If the differences in the size and volume of the breasts are quite significant, if breast ptosis

is inordinately severe or if one of the breasts might be sagging more than the other,

or the nipple and areola complex are considerably asymmetric in shape, size and position,

it might be time to seek surgical intervention as highly visible asymmetries can lead to

body dissatisfaction and result in low self- esteem and distressing body image.

Unfortunately, not all the asymmetries can be corrected with the help of plastic surgery intervention.

Still, there are certain asymmetries that can be corrected and improved such as the following:

- Volume asymmetries can be corrected in two ways:

a breast reduction surgery wherein the larger breast is reduced to a size closer to the other breast

considered to have the more optimal size and shape;

or by inserting an implant in the smaller breast to bring it up to the size of the other breast.

In most cases, when the breasts are small, it is better to have implants in both breasts,

but of different volumes.

Using fat transfer to the breasts, aside from the breast implant, can further correct this imperfection

and give the breasts a nicer, more natural looking shape and feel.

- Asymmetries of the dimensions of the areolas can be easily corrected during a breast lift,

augmentation or reduction procedure.

Many patients are aware that their breasts will never be completely symmetrical so it is quite natural for them

to wonder how beneficent a surgical procedure can be.

Due to the numerous types of asymmetries and the different responses of the body

during the healing process, there are no guarantees when it comes to achieving the perfect breasts.

It may even be necessary for the patient to go through two surgical stages

in cases where significant corrections are needed.

The plastic surgeon will thoroughly discuss this with the patient prior to scheduling of the first intervention.

As a patient, it is important to keep in mind that you may need to be available and willing to undergo

more than one procedure to achieve optimal results.

In this video, we discussed Correction methods for asymmetric breasts.

Next week we will discuss: Surgery for breast asymmetries.
