Top 5 REJECTED Pokemon Ideas! w/Monkiez!
Introduction Recently, a 4Chan user leaked a copy of the
original 1997 Spaceworld Demo of Pokemon Gold Version.
Don't ask me why or how this got leaked but all I know is that it's out and is super
cool.
Of course since this is a demo you'd expect them to have lots of unused ideas and it be
very different from the original games, and this is true.
There are so many super cool ideas and pokemon that were originally supposed to be in Gold
and Silver but just didn't make the cut.
And this got me thinking, what ideas have been scrapped from other Pokemon games and
I wanted to share my favorite with all of you.
So today I'm here with my Top 5 REJECTED Pokemon Ideas!
At the end of the video if you guys did enjoy make sure to leave a like, comment and maybe
even subscribe if you're new.
Also, the word rejected doesn't necessarily mean the concept wasn't used, some of these
were rejected initially and reworked and eventually made it to the final copies of the games with
some similarities with the original designs.
But with that being said, let's get started.
5.
Kokona Evolution Line Our number 5 slot goes to an entire evolutionary
line, and it goes by the name Kokona.
These three pokemon came from the demo of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan and are confirmed
to be an early concept for the Weedle evolution line.
The three designs first surfaced the internet by being put on GameFreaks official website
all the way back in 1997.
Because of its age and it not being a very high quality image some of the pictures are
somewhat hard to see however, We can see some similarities between Kokona and Weedle.
Kokona and Weedle both share similarities with them both being worms with spots all
over their bodies.
Kokonas evolution, Kansanagi somewhat resembles Kakuna with them being cocoon pokemon, but
honestly that's about it.
The final stage Pokemon has no name and shares no similarities whatsoever with Beedrill.
The final stage appears to be based off of a roach or beetle, with what looks like to
be a shell and 6 legs.
This concept may not have been used in Gen 1, but could've been reused in Pokemon Gold
and Silver, it looks like Game Freak scrapped this design and used it again in the future
when coming up with the concept of Ledian.
Both Pokemon are both bugs with four arms and have something large on their backs, so
for me this isn't that big of a stretch.
This is just one of the very many examples as to how different the original games are
from their demos, but while I think Kokona and Kansanagi are cool im not too fond of
a roach Pokemon.
4.
Kabiin Our next Pokemon on the list, is very… unique
so to speak.
This concept comes from the earliest days of Game Freak from before any Pokemon game
had been put into development, before game freak existed, and even before the name Pokemon
existed.
Back in 1990 Satoshi Tajiri the founder of Pokemon had an early concept of the series
in the form of a comic book, and this was known as Capsule Monsters.
In capsule Monsters there are some of the earliest concepts for Red and Green, we can
see an early Pokemart, a small town, and even a map of the Kanto region.
Satoshi Tajiri also had early concepts of Capsule Monsters in the series, or Pokemon,
and one of the coolest and probably the funniest beta designs I've ever seen is Kabiin.
I don't know why but the first time I saw this design it reminded me of Mr. Saturn from
Earthbound.
While by looks alone we don't know exactly what Kabiin was supposed to be, but many believe
it to be an early concept for Snorlax.
This is because of the similarities in their names with snorlax's japanese name being
Kabigon.
Other than that this Pokemon shares no other similarities with Snorlax.
Now that I think about it though it actually kinda looks like Jigglypuff, but in all honesty
it just looks like a human head with small arms and legs.
I really wish they continued with this concept as it's just super funny, imagine seeing
this thing trying to fight another Pokemon.
3.
Numpuff One of my favorite yet one of the most irrelevant
Pokemon in the series is Qwilfish.
Qwilfish, while being a super trash Pokemon, is actually pretty cool in my eyes.
Its concept is extremely unique with it being based off the Pufferfish, there is no other
Pokemon remotely close to it.
However, Qwilfish is one of those Pokemon that was never seen as Valuable because it
doesn't have an evolution.
But what if I told you Qwilfish was planned to have an evolution.
When making Pokemon Gold and Silver the guys at Game Freak sat down and said hey let's
give this little guy an evolution, but midway said f**k you Qwilfish and for some reason
completely scrapped the concept.
However, what it could've been was recently shown to us from the 1997 Spaceworld Demo
of Pokemon Gold, and that is Numpuff.
Qwilfish was supposed to evolve into Numpuff at level 18, of course this evolution would
come with a major stat buff, something Qwilfish desperately needs.
The name appears to be a combination of the Words numb and puff as in pufferfish.
This design is super dope and I really wish that it would've made it into the final
games.
It not only reminds me of a Pufferfish but of a Sea Mine, as the spikes are not as pointy
but are more rectangular.
It could've had a gimmick like Electrode of being an exploding Pokemon.
It also has a lighting bolt symbol on its head which could give off the possibility
of it becoming an electric type, after all in the Demo it only had one typing.
Water.
All in all, Numpuff was a super cool Pokemon and would've gave trainers an incentive
to catch Qwilfish, showing it way more love than it gets today.
2.
Jaggu About one month ago, a manga called "Satoshi
Tajiri: The Man Who Created Pokémon" detailing the life of Satoshi Tajiri, the creator and
founder of Pokemon Released in Japan.
The manga was essentially a biography and told his story on his road to success with
the creation of Pokemon.
While this doesn't seem like much, the Manga showed off Stages of Pokemon Red and Green
in early development, and one of the pages discusses a poll in which the staff of the
game would vote for their favorite Pokémon before including some of them in the final
games.
On this page we were shown three Pokemon that were being considered to part of the Original
151 Pokemon in Kanto, but unfortunately these Pokemon did not make the cut.
I honestly wish they were put into the games, these designs are super cool and could've
made for some good Pokemon that fit in with the Kanto Region.
But out of these three, my favorite has to be Jaggu, or the Shark Pokemon.
I really would've liked this because what we need is a good Shark Pokemon.
I mean we have Sharpedo who kinda sucks… and Gible who is more like a Dragon to me
than a Shark.
Jaggu would have filled this role.
It has a super cool design with its head being in the Shape of Harpoon and its tail resembling
an Anchor.
While this Pokemon was scrapped from Generation 1, I feel as though Game Freak reused this
concept when designing a Pokemon for Gold and Silver, and we see this in the Spaceworld
Demo of Gold.
This Pokemon is known as Anchorage, a Water Steel type that shares some similarities to
Jaggu.
Unfortunately though this Pokemon was scrapped and never made it to the final copies of Gold
and Silver, Game Freak, why are you like this.
But hey, at least we have sharpedo right?

The Original Starters The number one spot on my Top 5 Rejected Pokemon
Ideas list is going to not one, but two Pokemon.
Mainly because I cannot include one without the other and I really like both of these
Pokemon equally.
These are Flamebear and Cruz, the original starters that were replaced by Totodile and
Cyndaquil.
Flambear of course is based off the common bear.
Just like Cyndaquil it is a pure fire type and so are its evolutions Volbear and Dynabear.
We have seen tons of Bear Pokemon in the series but out of all of them I think that this evolution
line is the best.
On the other hand though, I really like Cruz but not his two other evolutions, they just
seem weird to me, it goes from a seal to a giant dinosaur thing with a long neck… not
the greatest choice of design in the world.
Although I do like these two Pokemon in their base forms I can't say I prefer them over
Totodile and Cyndaquil but I feel as though these Pokemon could've played their own
roles and not been starter Pokemon.
However, for the case of Volbear many people believe that Game freak wanted to follow the
cycle of the Chinese new year animals to base their starters off of, and unfortunately there
is no year of the bear, which sort of rules out the possibility of their being a bear
fire starter.
As for Cruz it seems as though Game Freak may have drew some inspiration from it for
designing Popplio but it seems like kind of a stretch, the only similarity is that they're
both seal Pokemon.
Again like I said these two Pokemon could still play their own roles that aren't starter
Pokemon but it still would be cool to see this one day.
So that is going to be it for Today's video I hope you guys did enjoy, if you did be sure
to leave a like comment and maybe even subscribe if you're new, and if you know of any pokemon
that weren't included in the games but were still early concepts, let me know in the comments
below.
But with that being said, I'll see you guys later, peace.
