Starting a cleaning business with no money.

Yes, it's possible, and yes, you can do it with no car.

We're going to talk about that today.

Hi there, I'm Angela Brown and this is Ask a House Cleaner.

This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question

and I get to help you find an answer.

I am just getting ready to start a business and I'm actually unemployed and I was wondering,

is it a smart thing to try to start a business with little to no money?

And if it is something I can do,

what are your suggestions to get all of my things put in order?

Because somethings that needs to be done does require money.

So what do you suggest, things that I can do to kind of get things going

without a lot of funding?

And I don't have a car, can I do this by being on a bus?

Thank you."

All right Carla, that's a really exciting question.

You're turning a chapter in your life and you're going to start

a new house cleaning business.

So yay, I'm so excited for you.

The very first thing that I would recommend you do, I have written a book called

How to Start Your Own House Cleaning Company

And you can download it free of charge on Amazon

and read it free on any Kindle app, you can read it on any device.

The keyword here is "company", how to start your own cleaning company, not a business.

Because a small business, as we know, oftentimes goes out of business

and lots of small businesses fail.

And so I want to help you start a company, I want to help you build an empire.

Now, can you do it without money?

Yes.

This whole entire book that I've written is designed for you to keep all of the money

in your pocket.

I do not want you to go out and spend for color printing and do high-glossy ads or advertisements

or flyers or door hangers, or any of those things.

I want you to cull it down into a black and white, half-page flyer.

I'm going to keep it super simple for you.

I do not want you to embroider any logos on company shirts, okay?

I do not want you to put any magnets on your car and I do not want you to wrap your car.

In the beginning stages of your business I want you to keep all of the money in your pocket.

Here's the reason why.

We don't know if you're a good house cleaner yet and we don't know if entrepreneurialism

is for you.

And so a lot of people come to me and they're like,

"Hey! I'm going to spend all this money and I'm going to get

involved in the house cleaning business.

And I'm going to go crazy and I'm going to spend $10,000 and do all this advertising

and marketing.

And I'm going to put my name up on Thumbtack and go all these places."

The next thing they know is they're out of business because they've spent an inordinate

amount of money and they've gone in debt and borrowed money from family and friends, and

they're no good at house cleaning.

They can't keep the customers that they get and in 30 days from now they're no longer here.

In 30 days from now, lots of the house cleaners that are getting started today, they will

not be here.

In 90 days, people that made it through the first 30 days, they will not be here.

This is not a business for everyone.

And so although I'm in love with this business and although it's easy for you to get started,

and yes, you can do it with no money, it's not a business for everyone.

And so as you get involved in the business I want you to start really small, because

if you start small and it works then you can grow and you are basing your growth on success.

If you start small and you fail, you're basing your growth and success on the small failure,

not a huge failure, right?

We don't want to fail at a $10,000 level because you spent all your relative's money buying

a bunch of stuff to get started in the business.

Now, here's a secret.

If you go to clean houses and it's just you and you're riding the bus to get there, you're

going to be working off of a bus route.

There are lots of houses near bus routes and so my suggestion is that you start talking

to people that live near the bus routes and run your flyers in those areas.

Get off a bus stop that's in a nice area you want to work in and put flyers in that area

and say, "Hey, I'm new in this area."

You are new because you just showed up, you just got off the bus, and that's where you're

going to be getting off and you're going to be walking two or three houses in either direction

of that bus stop.

That is your market.

So yes, it's very possible, there are a lot of house cleaners that don't have a car.

So that's not the hang up, the hang up is going to be in your head and are you right

for this job.

I don't know because I don't know why you're leaving your other job, I don't know what

kind of a job you left, I don't know what skills you have.

But if you're thinking about starting your own business, this is a great business to

start with very little or no money.

And so as you get started, go through the book step by step, it's a proven method, it's

worked over and over and over.

Now, if you decide that you get involved in the business and this book will trigger a

lot of things to happen for you.

I don't want to bring them all to your attention yet because I don't want to overwhelm you,

but it will attract a certain kind of customer and certain things from that customer will

happen to you.

And you will start learning to navigate situations in your house cleaning business that will help

you determine, in about 30 days, whether or not this is the right business for you.

If this is the right business for you, come back and we want to get you on a program where

now you can start saving money from the jobs that you have coming in, to get you a car

so that you then can expand your business to a different, maybe, geographical area.

And then you can hire people and you can change the pricing of your job and you can then get

embroidered shirts or you can wrap your car or whatever.

Because you'll have the money coming in, that then you can invest back in your business

and you can grow your business.

So my suggestion is this, yes, do get started in the house cleaning business.

Read the book step by step.
