SolidWorks Tutorial Indonesia #050 (Eng Sub) - SolidWorks Material & Custom Material - Duration: 10:23.

In this video, We will learning about "Material" & how to add a "Custom Material" in SolidWorks.

Welcome back at "One Future Solution" channel.

Thanks for watching this video.

I'm Ridwan.

In this video, We will learning about "Material" & how to add a "Custom Material" in SolidWorks.

We will use file that We've been created before.

The file "Gelas", like this.

So, We've been created this file in the SolidWorks Tutorial Video Series #48.

Ok, We can open our SolidWorks !

After that, We can open the "Gelas" file from the video #48.

"Open" !

We can select this "Gelas" file !

Then click "Open" !

After We opened this "Gelas", We will applying a material to this model.

For adding a material in SolidWorks, We can go to this "Feature Manager Design Tree" area !

We can see here, there's "Material".

We can right click at this "Material" !

Then We can select "Edit Material" !

After We selected the "Edit Material", there's appears a "Material" dialog box like this.

So, this is contains any standard materials that We can use in SolidWorks.

We can try to check this "SolidWorks DIN Materials" folder !

So, you just need to select a material that You want to use from the materials that already listed here.

We can open this "SOLIDWORKS Materials" folder !

Then We can drag down this bar !

There's so many materials folder that already offered in here like, "Steel", "Aluminium", etc.

For our "Gelas" model, We can use the "Other Non Metals" !

Then select this "Glass" folder, click !

After We selecting the material that We want to use, it was showing its "Material Properties" over here.

So, it was shown about "Elastic Modulus, Shear Modulus and so on" of this "Glass" material.

After that, We can click "Apply" to use this material that We've been selected !

Then, We can "Close" !

Ok, so this model already using "Glass" as its material.

"Glass".

And its visual properties has been changed to be transparent too.

After We applying a material for this "Gelas", We can check the mass of this model from the "Evaluate" tab !

Click this "Evaluate" tab !

Then We can select the "Mass Properties" !

So, it will measure this model weight using the "Glass" material.

So, the mass of this model is "317.03 grams".

With "Volume" as shown here.

And also it was showing "Surface area" informations, So We can use this information for the painting process.

So, as We can see here, the mass is "317.03 grams".

And for the material density is "0.00 grams per cubic millimeter".

For this "0.0", We can try to adjust the settings by click this "Options" !

Then, select the "Use custom settings" option !

Then, We can change the "Decimal places", as We know this "0.00" is using 2 nominal after the coma,

We can change it become "7" !

Then, click "Ok" !

Ok, so the "Density" informations was already showing the more accurate nominal.

Before this, it was shown just 2 nominal after coma,

but after We change it, it was shown by more accurate value.

Then, We can "Close" !

Remember, the mass is "317..." !

"Close" !

Then, We want to try change this material become "Wood".

As same as with the previous, We can right click at "Material (Glass)" !

Then "Edit Material" !

We can search the "Wood" material folder !

We can close this material folder !

Then open the "Wood" folder !

Let's say, select the "Mahogany" material !

Then click "Apply" !

"Close" !

Ok, so our model was already use the "Mahogany" material.

Its visual properties was already changed too.

Then, We can check its weight again, go to the "Evaluate" tab !

"Mass Properties" !

As We remember, the previous mass is around "317... grams".

And now, this model weight is only at "77.... grams".

So, this mass amount was considering our material that We used too.

Ok, after We knowing the mass of this model, We can "Close" !

So, That's the way to applying and change the model material in SolidWorks.

And then, how about if We can't find the material that We want to use in the SolidWorks materials database ?

We can right click at this "Mahogany (Material)" first !

"Edit Material" !

If We can't find our material that We want to use in this database,

so We can add our own custom material for that.

We can close this "Wood" folder first !

Let's say We can open this "Other Non Metals" folder !

Sorry, open the "Other Metals" folder !

Then, We can select the "Pure Gold" material !

So, We can define our new custom material, but We should to have its material properties first like this one.

So, We should to get the "Elastic modulus, Poisson ratio, Shear modulus and so on" like that shown in this table !

Let's say, in this case We want to create another material type of this "Gold" material besides the "Pure Gold".

Now, We want to add another type of "Gold" material.

To do that, We should to searching its material data sheet first that similar with that shown in this table !

For searching that "Material Data Sheet (MDS)", We can search its MDS first from the "Internet".

Or, We can ask directly to our material suppliers about "MDS" of our material type that We want.

Ok, now We can try to searching another type of "Gold" material from the "Internet".

We can go to "Google" !

Then, We can type "Gold Material Data Sheet" !

"Enter" !

So, right here We can searching the MDS of the gold material that We want to use.

Or, We can type "Matweb" at this field !

Ok, so this "Matweb" website is web that provide some standards material data sheet (MDS).

Then, We can click this one "MatWeb :Online Materials...." !

After We are in the "MatWeb" site, We can go to the search field over here !

Type "Gold" at this "Search" field !

"Enter" !

Nah, right here it was provide some type of "Gold" material that they have.

Let's say We want to use this first gold material type "Gold Au", click !

Ok, so this is already provide some material properties that similar with the SolidWorks material properties like,

"Hardness, Tensile Strength, Poisson Ratio, Shear Modulus and so on".

Ok, now We can back to the SolidWorks first !

And now, We want to create a new "Gold Au" material as the "Custom Material" in this SolidWorks.

As We can see here, We can't find the "Gold Au" material in this standards SolidWorks material database.

So, We can copy a similar material first with "Gold Au" from this list !

Let's say, We can copy this "Pure Gold" material !

We can click this "Pure Gold" !

Then, press "CTRL+C" for copy !

"CTRL+C" !

Ok.

After that, We can drag down this bar !

Then, We can open this "Custom Material" folder, click the small arrow icon beside it to open that folder !

Then, We can right click at this "Custom Material" folder, right click !

Then, We can add a "New Category", click !

Then type "Gold" for the new category folder name !

"Enter" !

Ok, so right here We already have a new category folder "Gold".

Then, at this folder, We can right click !

"Paste" !

And now, in this folder already listed "Pure Gold" material as that We copied before.

Then, We can click this "Pure Gold" material over here !

Nah, as We can see here, this table have a white color, meanwhile for the previous (original) "Pure Gold",

its table was colored with grey for all of its column.

So, if the table have a white color like this, that's mean We can edit its value.

Like if We click at this field, it can be edited now !

Now, We can define the name for this new "Gold" material type, input "Gold Au" at this field !

And for the other fields, We can let them unfilled like this !

And now, We want to change the value of this "Elastic Modulus" properties first !

Now We are using the "N/m^2" for the unit system, or this "Pa".

Now, We can go back at the previous "MatWeb" that We already open !

And now, We can searching "Elastic Modulus" value from this "Gold Au" material in this table !

Nah, this one "Modulus of elasticity" !

As We can see here, for the "Metric" unit it was showing "77,2 Gpa",

and for the "English" unit, it was showing "11200 ksi".

So, We can copy this one !

Block its value like this !

Now, We can copy this value that have "ksi" unit system (CTRL+C) !

After that, We can go back to our SolidWorks again !

Ok, now We can set this SolidWorks material unit system first following the MatWeb value unit system (English) !

We can use "English (IPS)" for the unit system !

As We can see here, it was using "psi" for the "Elastic Modulus" unit system, but in the MatWeb using "ksi".

Now, We can block the "Elastic Modulus" value at this field first !

Then, "Paste" (CTRL+V) !

After that, We can convert the value to "ksi" unit system !

From "ksi" to "psi", so We need add "000" after this value, like this !

Then press "Enter" !

So, like that.

So, for adjusting the other material properties in this table, We can use the same method,

We can search on the website for the material properties, then copy and paste at this table.

And then, after We've done adjusted the material data sheet (MDS) value at this table,

We can go to the "Appearance" tab over here !

At this settings, We want to define a new visual property of this new "Gold Au" material.

Let's say We want to use the "Green" for this material color, just click the "Green" at this color table, like this !

Then, We can go back to the "Properties" tab !

After We already adjusted all of our new material MDS values, We can click "Save" right here !

"Save" !

Ok, so inside this folder, there is already changed to be "Gold Au".

Then, We can click "Apply" to applying this material for our model, "Apply" !

"Close" !

Ok, so our model already have a green color like this.

Ok, so in this video We already learned about how to add a new custom material in the SolidWorks.

Then, We can change this material !

Right click !

"Edit Material" !

We can open the "SOLIDWORKS Material" folder !

Then, "Other Non Metals" !

"Glass" !

"Apply" !

"Close" !

Ok, so like this.

Then, We can save this model !

Ok, I think it's enough for this video.
