When we think about going to the Moon, it

all sounds so glamorous and exciting! But

really, not all of it was... like the Apollo

seaworthiness test that we're looking at

today on Vintage Space. There were a lot

of long-duration tests designed to make

sure that the Apollo spacecraft could

support three astronauts on a two-week

long mission to the Moon. But going to

the Moon and coming back from the Moon

wasn't the only part of the mission

where the astronauts relied on the

Apollo spacecraft to keep them alive.

There was also that pesky part of the

mission between splashdown and recovery

where the Apollo command module, a

spacecraft, had to double as a boat.

Between splashdown and recovery, Apollo

astronauts would rely on the

spacecraft's communications system, its

location system, power and ventilation

systems, to keep them alive while they

floated in the ocean waiting for a crew

to recover them and take them onto the

deck of an aircraft carrier.

Now, NASA wasn't leaving this whole thing

up to chance; it wasn't like the

astronauts were left just re-enter the

atmosphere at any point hopefully

splashed down the ocean and then be

found by recovery crews. NASA calculated

everything. Re-entry into the Earth's

atmosphere was done at a specific point

such that the landing area could be

calculated to very a small region. That

meant that recovery crews were on hand

and ready to go as soon as a spacecraft

landed. But if something went wrong and a

crew had to land in secondary landing

zone or even a contingency zone, NASA had

to be sure that the Apollo spacecraft

could keep them alive not only while the

recovery crews located them but also while they

traveled the distance from where they

were stationed for the primary landing

to the secondary, contingency, or even

other areas in the oceans. And remember:

the world's oceans are pretty big! And

cue the 48-hour seaworthiness test done

in spacecraft 007 in the Gulf of

Mexico in 1967. There were two of these

48 hours seaworthiness tests done and

they both followed roughly the same

format. After being lowered into the

water, the spacecraft was flipped apex

down into what is called the stable two

position. NASA had to make sure that

the straps holding the astronauts in

their seats were strong enough to hold

them upside down, but it was also

really a test

to make sure that the airbags could

inflate underwater to right the

spacecraft to its stable one position.

And from there it was basically a

waiting game, and not exactly a fun one.

Because it was a test of the spacecraft

integrity at sea, the tests stipulated

that waves in the area had to be between

3 and 4 feet high (0.9-1.2 meters). And even though the

spacecraft was within sight and easy

reach of the recovery carrier in case

anything went wrong, the crew couldn't

exactly stop the test because they got

bored. They had to wait it out just like

they would if they splashed down in the

wrong area after a mission. Jim Lovell

who flew to the moon on Apollo 8 and

Apollo 13 did one of these seaworthiness

tests, and I asked him about it the first

time I met him. He leaned in, and in more

colorful language said, "You know, I was a

sailor. And that thing is no boat." If

you're curious for more information

about these tests, I've got more in the old

blog post linked below. So what do you

guys think of the seaworthiness test, and

also this totally unglamorous part of

being an astronaut? Would that kill the

dream of going to the Moon for you or

would you put up with two days of

seasickness if you knew it meant maybe

getting a flight to the Moon? Let me know

your thoughts, and of course any

questions you have in the comments below

and things you would like to see covered

in future episodes. Be sure to follow me

on Twitter and Instagram for daily-ish

Vintage Space-ish content, and with

new videos going up right here every

single week be sure to subscribe so you

never miss an episode! :)

Norway's Salmon Farming Crisis | The Fish on My Plate | FRONTLINE - Duration: 5:47.

But, you see...

>> GREENBERG: The Vosso is a

legendary river with a

legendary salmon.

Except, in this marketing film,

it's a make-believe,

computer-bred salmon.

>> This is Mowi.

>> Luckily, it's only half of

my name, so that's good.

>> GREENBERG: Frederik

Mowinckel's uncle was an early

fish farming pioneer.

His company-- and his name-- got

swallowed up by an industry

giant.

>> My uncle would never...

He would never have allowed

this sort of animal farming.

>> GREENBERG: Frederik says he

never thought much about his

relative or the industry until

this farm suddenly appeared off

his summer cottage.

We have this expression in

the states-- NIMBY, "not in my

backyard."

People don't want things in

their view sheds.

Is this just a NIMBY issue?

>> I don't think that's very

fair.

Did that particular farm

trigger my deep-rooted interest

in getting to the bottom of

what is actually going on in the

salmon farm?

Yes.

We have an issue with escaped

salmon that mixes with the

wild, we have an issue with

sea lice, which is also

affecting the wild salmon.

We have the overall pollution.

Those are the major issues

that I have with salmon farming.

>> GREENBERG: The Vosso salmon,

which for millennia returned

to these home waters, was the

biggest of all Atlantic salmon.

Now, like many other salmon

runs in Norway, there are

more escaped farmed fish in this

river than wild salmon.

And the Vosso salmon is

threatened with extinction.

>> There is a nursery program.

They are trying to bring the

salmon back, and that makes this

even more ridiculous, because

the salmon isn't there anymore.

The number of wild salmon has

been reduced dramatically over

the years, and one of the main

reasons is all the disease and

sea lice and everything that

happens as a result of salmon

farming.

>> GREENBERG: Sea lice-- I

didn't know much about these

small marine parasites that

attach to juvenile salmon and

feed off the gills and through

the skin.

So I found Lars Asplin at the

Institute of Marine Research.

>> Here, you see how it looks

like.

It's more, like, in a swarm of

bees.

>> GREENBERG: This is a

computer model of how sea lice

from a single farm can breed and

spread, infecting the wild

salmon.

Can sea lice actually kill

salmon?

>> Yes, 100-gram fish, if

they have more than ten sea

lice, we usually regard it to be

lethal.

>> GREENBERG: Lethal?

Imagine the same process

duplicated on a thousand farms

up and down Norway's coast.

Meanwhile, the government has

looked at plans to expand the

industry as much as five times.

But they know they have

problems.

Is the sea lice a real serious

problem?

>> Yes, it's a problem.

If the number of sea lice in the

farmed fish is higher, then you

can get the pressure also for

the wild salmon.

It's the fish farmers, they're

responsible to get rid of it

and they have used chemicals

and that's been a problem.

Of course it's not good for

the environment, and it's also

a problem with resistance.

>> GREENBERG: Curiously, these

are not even Atlantic salmon in

the farm the fisheries director

brought us to.

They're rainbow trout.

It is an unusually fat

rainbow trout, fatter than you

would see in nature, I believe.

It's a farmed animal.

I don't think anyone would ever

compare a wild pig with a farmed

pig, and, I don't know, if

you're going to eat farmed land

animals, I don't think you could

make too much of a beef about

eating farmed ocean animals.

If you're going to be a

vegetarian, on the other hand,

that's another way to go.

I mean, I could see a

vegetarian criticizing all

this, but I can't really see a

meat-eater criticizing all

this, so...

All right, let's return you

back to the water.

Enjoy your last few days.

I think you've got three days

till harvest, so enjoy them,

and I'm sorry that it had to

end up this way for you.

Oh, dear.

Oh, there he goes.

I fell in love with the ocean

because it was the last great

wild place where you could find

the last wild food.

Is this the shape of the ocean

to come?

Selectively bred rainbow trout?

And invasive species, not even

native to Norway, taking up

residence here by the millions

so that people all over the

world can eat the same

domesticated thing.

And what about the farms

you never get to see?

What kind of safeguards are

they taking in China, in Chile,

in Vietnam?

And all the other fish we eat

that are grown in pens like

this?

Half the fish on our plates are

farmed today.

And half the fish I've been

eating are farmed.

They're just too hard to avoid.

That includes Norwegian farmed

salmon, which, for the most

part, is pretty good.

But I still eat it with regret,

because I know we can do better.

why audiobooksnow is better than audible - Duration: 4:10.

HEY TRIPPSTERS

ok i said i was gonna do this video

a couple of videos back

so i wanna go ahead and do this for you

why i think

audiobooksnow.com

is so much better

than Audible.com

now if you're in to audiobooks

you may wanna listen

because this will actually save you money

ok

now

i

for years

had used audible.com

and came across audiobooksnow.com, by complete accident

apparently it's it's a newer site

but

it's cheaper

and

you have a better option

ok

if you go to audiobooksnow.com

you can sign up

you don't have to

but

you can sign up for

a monthly thing, just like you do with audible

here's the thing though

you will get it for 5 bucks a month

seriously guys, 5 bucks a month

that's audio books

audiobooksnow

5 bucks a month

ok, audible is no less than 15 bucks a month

and you get a small discount on the books

but with audiobooksnow

you get

a book for half price

ok, 5 bicks a month

and you're getting it for half price

ok, so you're paying 5 bucks a month

and you're getting a book for

half price

literally half

if it's 16 dollars

you're getting it for 8

ok

that

almost had me sold right there

on audiobooksnow.com

ok

but here was the

final decision maker for me

you get yor books on mp3

ok

you don't have to download

any specific thing

to your computer

or phone or anything

you just

click BUY

and then you click download

it downloads as an mp3

ok, that i like

ok,, because, my mp3 player

will not play books frm

Audible.com

why, because they do not download in the form of an mp3

i have a couple times gotten it to download in that format

but most of the time

it's an m4p or something crazy like that

and i need mp3's

for my little mp3 player

ok, so not only do you get a better monthly price, you also get your books at half price

so you know, if you're into audiobooks

and for the record, no they do not sponsor me, this is just how good i like the site

ok

this is how impressed i am, that i wanted to let you guys know

if you are in to audiobooks

try audiobooksnow.com

and

oo

i will even put a link in the description so you guys can go and check it out for yourselves

no i'm not saying you have to sign up or anything, i'm just saying, you know, if you like audiobooks

check out the site and see what you think

because for me

it was just wonderful

ok, it's a cheaper price every month and you get your books at half price AND

you get them in an mp3

OH MY GOD

YES

this for me was a life savor

because, you know, like i said previously

i don't see real well

so i do audiobooks, so that i don't have to strain my eyes

see there you go

that's one of the main reasons i do audiobooks

plus i can listen and do other stuff at the same time

but yeh, that's uh

that's why i think audiobooksnow.com is better than audible.com

and yes i have used both

but anyway, i, i just wanted to tell you guys

when i made that comment the other day

why i made that comment the other day, that i thought they were better

and those are my reasons why i think they're better

ok

but

there you have the information, i'll put a link in the description, so you guys can go check it out for yourself

that is gonna do it for now

this is

ICEPETS QUEEN

and i am

Video: Living, eating with Crohn's disease - Duration: 2:57.

ROOKIES CONTINUE THEIR

TRAINING.

THAT IS A LOOK AT YOUR SPORTS.

HAVE A GREAT START YOUR DAY.

JENNIFER: WHEN YOU'RE AN ADULT

AND HAVE TO LIMIT YOUR DIET,

THAT'S BAD ENOUGH.

BUT WHEN YOU'RE KID, IT'S EVEN

HARDER.

14-YEAR-OLD CALEB HAS CROHNS

DISEASE, AND HE AND HIS MOM HAVE

FOUND A WAY TO COPE WHILE ALSO

HELPING OTHER KIDS IN THE

PROCESS.

GOOD MORNING.

>> GOOD MORNING.

JENNIFER: YOU HAVE ALREADY

STARTED TO CHANGE THE THINGS

THAT YOU EAT, BUT IT IS ONLY

RECENTLY THAT YOU HAVE REALLY

CHANGED YOUR DIET.

>> YES, IT IS ONLY BEEN ABOUT A

YEAR AND A HALF THAT I CHANGED

TO A SPECIFIC CARBOHYDRATE DIET.

MY BLOOD LEVELS HAVE BEEN SO

MUCH BETTER.

JENNIFER MOM, YOU HAVE TRIED TO

FIND A WAY THAT HE COULD EAT AND

BE LIKE NORMAL KIDS.

TO EAT THE THINGS THAT NORMAL

KIDS MIGHT EAT.

AND YOU CAME UP WITH A GOOD

IDEA.

>> YES, THE DIET THAT HE STARTED

CUTS OUT A LOT OF THE NORMAL

THINGS THAT A KID MIGHT EAT.

HE DID WELL PHYSICALLY, BUT

SOCIALLY AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY HE

WAS STRUGGLING.

SO, I REALIZED HE NEEDED TO HAVE

FOOD THAT KIDS LIKE TO EAT LIKE

PIZZA, ARENAS, AND CHICKEN

NUGGETS.

ANGST LIKE -- PIZZA, DORITOS,

CHICKEN NUGGETS, THINGS LIKE

THAT.

AND SO, I CAME UP WITH A COOKING

COMPANY THAT WOULD CREATE

PRODUCTS THAT WOULD DO THAT.

JENNIFER: SO YOU ARE GOING TO

PACKAGE FOOD THAT YOU CAN SELL

AT LOCAL STORES?

>> YES, WE ARE GOING TO SELL

THEM AT STORES LIKE TRADER JOE'S

WHICH ARE GRATEFUL TO HAVE THE

FOOD.

JENNIFER: AND NOW YOU ARE GOING

TO PAY -- MAKE SOME FOOD YOU

LIKE TO EAT?

>> YES, THIS IS A CHOCOLATE

CAKE.

IT IS NOT ONE OF THE FOODS WE

ARE SELLING ON OUR WEBSITE, BUT

IT IS ONE OF THE FOODS I LIKE TO

EAT.

>> IT IS A CHOCOLATE CAKE, BUT

IT HAS NO CHOCOLATE, NO SUGAR,

NO GRACE.

IT USES PECAN FLOUR SO IT LOOKS

LIKE CHOCOLATE, AND THE DATES

MAKE IT SWEET.

IT USES COCOA BUTTER TO GET THAT

CHOCOLATEY FLAVOR.

JENNIFER: AND THIS IS ALSO GOOD

FOR PARENTS WHO WANT TO GET WELL

-- GET AWAY FROM ALL THOSE

PRESERVATIVES?

>> YES, SO IT IS NOT JUST FOR

KIDS WITH CROHN'S DISEASE.

OBESITY IS ONE OF THE TOP 10

KILLERS IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW.

JENNIFER: WE WANTED TO SHOWCASE

WHAT IT IS THAT YOU HAVE COME UP

WITH.

Classical Musicians React: EXO 'Lucky One' vs 'Monster' - Duration: 17:19.

yunyi: x... o?...

*semiramide overture plays*

umu: so this is EXO. You guys are familiar with this group, right?

umu: so 2016 EXO, this is called "Lucky One"

yunyi: is this, am I gonna be the lucky one? kevin: maybe this will be the lucky one

shimon: you have to say it in Korean

Ben: "three, two, one!" (in Korean)

gwen: oh hel- heck yeah

ben: alright

naoki: cool beat

Ben: shouldn't he be unconscious?

fiona: okay, I'm feeling the uh - (sings)

henry: yeah, I'm feeling the synth -

davis: yeah

ben: so is he having a seizure or is he dancing?

naoki: a little bit of both, you know?

henry: I dig this- fiona: his eyes freak me out

fiona: oh my god! they are hot!

lindsey: this is like, real groovy

nozomi: this is scary

lindsey: their faces are so shiny!

davis: yeah, really

gwen: ah yes, put food dye in your IV

gwen: that sounds like a good idea

fiona: that songs makes it look fun

gwen: what is this? it's not a hospital, it's like-

gwen: really sleek murder facility

fiona: their skin is so nice! henry: listen to these harmonies - Oh!

gwen: ooh, ooh, ooh his voice

ben: they slowed down the harmonic rhythm, yeah you know?

naoki: yeah, they did

gwen: i'm super into the- it's like, like thick clavinova in the back?

gwen: or probably some synth, but yeah, sounds like it, but i'm into it

fiona: he's trapped

shimon: oh, that was weird

fiona: get it? I'm trapped

naoki: it became more upbeat

shimon: it came on an upbeat - wait, is that what you said?

ben: because he dropped out all the instruments for a bit, and then came back with everything

fiona: I feel like they could have done less on the drums

yunyi: ah, I love this - it's so catchy!

shimon: it came back on a weak beat, right? ben: well, they are singing on the offbeats

yunyi: oh! I like how it cut out for a little bit

naoki: i like how they all are in the same place, all getting treated at the same time

ben: true love <3

davis: i'm finding it interesting in the melody -

naoki: oh! and now he's in unconscious

davis: and in the background music - if you listen, it's like

davis: it's like very intentionally place to cut in and out with the melody

kevin: now this is getting better, i like this more -

lindsey: mmm davis: but it sounds really good

davis: they are blending it together very nicely

kevin: the black and white going through the planets

lindsey: what is that? ice cubes? davis: ice, i don't know.

davis: you gotta roll the dice

yunyi: yeah, that modulation, I was talking about kevin: woah. yeah.

yunyi: oh actually, it's not a modulation

kevin: it's fuzzy

yunyi: it sounded like went down like -

yunyi: in thirds and then stayed there for a little bit

yunyi: yeah, and they stayed there a little bit

umu: descending fifths? ben: Uhh, you know naoki: it was like

shimon: D2 minus 4 plus

naoki: minus five plus four

naoki: i mean you weren't honestly- ben: ohhh!

ben: ben we didn't do sequences in a long time

naoki: you're too good, you don't need to know that already

fiona: is she going to disappear?

nozomi: no

naoki: what's going on, she dead?

yunyi: the colors are so beautiful, just saying

ben: oh she's dead Naoki: oh, he killed her

naoki: cus' he's flaming , hot

yunyi: oh woah kevin: that happened

gwen: again, I told you. it's a sleek murder facility

ben: this does not look good

gwen: and instead of escaping, they are rappin'

mark: I feel like that rhythm doesn't come up in english. I think the language lends itself to that

nozomi: which part mark: that part - (sings rhythm)

Fiona: I feel like this song would be

it would be more like

funky listen to this

cool but with the music video you're like oh this is dystopian

Lindsey: I think that the fact that they're wearing all white looks real cool with the lights

and I think that was an intentional aesthetic decision but that doesn't change that it's cool

Mark: Oh I like- I like the guy dancing there

both: *laughing* Kevin: That was amazing Yunyi: That was great

Kevin: freaking 80's flashback just like the music

Gwen: Why is he.. dancing Jeremy: I actually enjoy like the

Like the backtrack but I don't like how autotuned their voices are (Don't watch Lotto then)

Ben: The thing that's too bad is that they kinda keep a lot of the same sound the whole time on this one

Umu: meaning- Ben: I feel it's a little bit more- Naoki: and there's nothing happening right now

Ben: Yeah and it feels a little bit more generic from

like I'm sure they could pump this out really quickly to fill in an album

Mark: That's a fun song for sure

the beat and the

kinda reminds me of Stevie Wonder or something

Nozomi: I just like that little part the fifths

Kevin: The percussion dropped out for one beat that's when it sounde-

Yunyi: Noo no nonono that's not what I'm talking about

They either skipped a beat or an 8 beat it sounded like. Or maybe my mind skipped a beat

Umu: It just dropped out

Yunyi: Oh ok it just did a weird subdivision Kevin: Yeah

Umu: Do you remember MAMA and how they had powers and were able to appear and disappear (I miss ot12)

or have ice or fire or something

Umu: I've never looked up a theory about this. I probably should've looked up a theory Lindsey: Yeah you probably should've Davis: Is this the prequel

(No it's a sequel)

Is this what gave them their powers before they went and

davis: it's an origin story (no it's a sequel)

Henry: This is the only song, like I said, only song that I would listen to

the harmonies are really cool

plus also the video concept was really dope

Fiona: Yeah, the video was cool it just seemed way more complex

Than before Henry: I feel like, it was really part of an actual story that I just wasn't clued in on

Also all the camera movement was really cool cuz it would like twist in

and then twist out

which is really cool

Kevin: again see when I said that I'd like to be in EXO

Yeah this is why

It's continuous to prove it

Yunyi: You would like to be in EXO?

umu: someone- someone asked kevin: remember that one Q&A

kevin: oh yeah, it wasn't before our- umu: on my app

umu: on the bts amino app, someone asked like what group kevin would want to be-

yunyi: oh exo plus kevin :P umu: part of

kevin: yess

Davis: It was another kpop

banger

this is just- it's great it's really hype

I wouldn't call it like the next greatest kpop song of all time

but I would call it something exciting and worth listening to more than once

Umu: Ok I have a question

So how can you- I know- i can tell when it's autotune when it's like

lasfhafhahf ya know

really obviously autotujned (Like Lotto)

but i could never tell that this was autotuned

Jeremy: This was like heavily autotuned (I'm trying to be nice)

Umu: What? (Same)

Gwen: It's not in every note

first of all

and

what you hear usually with autotune

what gives autotune such a bad name

is that people use it to actually change pitches in post production

so if they wanna add a riff

they'll just be like screw it, I'll add a riff

and it sounds obviously very fake, because it is

the way we could tell this was autotuned was because

you know the voice isn't consistent

when you're singing a note

you know

even with us

you can't perfectly do that

and that's just not how it works for the fact that it was

laser

and with every musical style

where a lot of it is electronic I can guarantee that there's autotune it it (Ok feeling better, just watch EXO live is the answer)

Jeremy: I can also hear it

I can hear the autotune, like a l- it wasn't bad, they did a good job with it

like I could just hear that there was autotune

Gwen: We're just you know pretentious

I mean if I was a pop singer I would definitely autotune myself

jeremy: yeah. I mean, I think all of them do

it's that style

umu: well have you heard of other EXO music by watching the channel?

nozomi: yeah, well also I knew those before I met you umu: call me baby....growl...

umu: mm hm ok

nozomi: I do like growl too, but maybe right now I just feel more this type of music

mark: I feel like the last two songs ended with everything just dropping out and singing the final words

mark: like lucky one or something else umu: oh yehayeahyeahyeha

umu: the other one was automatic

mark: yeahyeahyeah

umu: do you like that way of ending music or

mark: yeah i mean-

I don't prefer it to everything else, I just try to notice patterns

throughout

nozomi: as long as there's nothing half cadence since it's like left without being resolved mark: oh actually that bothers you more than me

mark: i'm ok with a half cadence

mark: too many resolutions these days

shimon: i feel like- you know how you were saying how it just kept repeating the same thing over and over again?

I feel like if the video wasn't there and we were just listening to the audio, there would be times where we would be bored

ben: yeah, for sure

umu: ok

ben: the thing about kpop is that their music videos are amazing

their production value is...insane and they do so well

cuz they really just had an A section and B section

which is cool?

ben: but how many times did we hear A-B-A-B

shimon: it was in ternary form (omg umu shhhhhhh)

naoki: no that's binary

shimon: well the A section came back

naoki: well B section also came back so that would make it binary

naoki: RIP

umu: ok so are you ready for monster?

umu: this is completely different- yunyi: monster?!

kevin: I AM THE MONSTER

fiona: 3 ah 2 ah one ah bAM

*shook*

henry: woah

kevin: lights

mark: woah

naoki: so many pauses it's like

mark: this is like- the music is like scandalous compared to everything else

How Logic Fights for Equality on 'Everybody' - Duration: 2:36.

Logic has a new album out, and a new mission.

In his first-ever Complex cover story, the Maryland rapper speaks at length about his

new album 'Everybody,' which highlights the importance of society finding a middle

ground and moving away from the negativity associated with being "different."

"When I started creating this album two years ago, it was before my other album was

even out.

I was writing, and it just so happened to be that a lot of the subject matter I'm

discussing on this album, which is the fight for equality of every man, woman, and child

regardless of race, religion, color, creed, and sexual orientation—because I believe

that we are born equal, but we are not treated equally.

But Logic's music is fundamentally positive and focused on the future.

And for the rapper, that means believing a fair and just society is possible.

"I'm just here to say, 'Just be a good person, and really respect others.'

I'm proud to be bi-racial, and there's a lot of people that say things like, 'I

don't see color,' and I completely understand that, but I think different is beautiful,

but I think our difference shouldn't separate us, and for me in this era, in this time,

in everything that we're going through my whole thing is just about unity man."

Logic's message of equality is the central theme of his new album, 'Everybody,' where

race issues in America come in full focus.

On many of the songs, Logic speaks about his own experiences, like on the title track. It

also comes up on the uplifting "Black SpiderMan."

Logic takes a more aggressive approach on "Take It Back," where he fights for his

own identity.

This includes moments where others have made assumptions about him based on his complexion,

even in hip-hop.

The album-ending track "AfricAryaN" offers a narrative on biracial identity in America,

and his journey to navigate life.

In all these instances, Logic opens himself up for scrutiny, but with purpose.

'Everybody' is far and away Logic's most personal album yet.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of impact Logic's 'Everybody' will make,

but one thing's for sure: he has a glass half-full mentality for humanity.

"I just hope everybody can just get along in the future.

That's what I hope, that'd be amazing."

That's the news for now, but for all the latest on Logic, subscribe to Complex News

on YouTube.
