Citi: Deepwater Wind - America's First Offshore Wind Farm - Duration: 1:00.
The U.S. needs to develop more renewable
and clean energy resources
because there are limits to the amount of fossil fuels that we can burn.
Since 1925, we have depended on diesel generators,
burning approximately a million gallons of diesel fuel a year.
Our mission is to make off-shore wind
one of the principle new sources of energy.
Not every bank is willing to get involved in a "first of its kind" project.
Citi saw the promise of clean energy
and they worked really closely with us,
The wind farm will lower power prices.
We're polluting the air less.
Businesses and homes can rely on a steady source of power.
Block Island Wind Farm is a catalyst
this will be the first of many off-shore wind farms in the U.S.

100 Lunar Days - Part II - Duration: 3:09.
[music]
In the time before the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, most
lunar orbiting missions had a lifespan of one to two years.
But now, LRO has shattered all records and been at the Moon for
one hundred lunar days – that's eight years of data collection.
This mission has truly ushered in a new era of lunar and
planetary science. One of the biggest accomplishments is that
LRO's high-resolution camera has been able to image almost the
entire lunar surface, down to one meter of resolution. This
has opened a treasure trove of new data about geological
processes and areas that may be best suited for future
exploration. One hundred lunar days has also given us more time
study the Moon's far side in more detail than ever before. We
now know, for example, that the Compton-Belkovich volcanic
complex formed from a rare type of lava about 3.7 billion years
ago. This helps paint a new picture of the Moon's history.
The Moon has not only had a wide range of complex geologic
processes, but its volcanism may have also changed over time. LRO
has also been able to measure something you may not have heard
about: the lunar tide – or how much the Moon's surface actually
flexes and cracks due to the gravitational pull of the Earth.
There's still a lot to learn about this ongoing process,
making our Moon an important case study when thinking about
other planets and moons. Over its lifetime of 4 1/2 billion
years, the Moon has also been bombarded by all sorts of
asteroids and comets. This has left millions of impact craters
on the surface. For planetary scientists, however, there had
been no way to identify newly formed craters. But when LRO
arrived, all this changed. By comparing pictures taken earlier
in the mission with more recent images, NASA scientists have
discovered more than sixty new impact craters, like this one
from 2013. And that's not all. LRO's instruments are able to
study both new and old craters in ways we never have before.
LOLA, for example, helps create topographic 3-D maps, and
Mini-RF has detected evidence of water ice inside deep craters at
the lunar poles. All of this is important for space science as a
whole. Craters are used to help determine the age of a surface,
how hot or cold a planet is, and how thick a planet's atmosphere
might be. Observing new impact craters also gives us better
insight into what happens when a meteorite strikes a planetary
surface. And this touches upon a key point - our Moon is more
than just a rock. It's the cornerstone for understanding
our solar system and beyond. It has a dynamic history that we
are still learning about and features we are still
discovering. By being at the Moon for one hundred lunar days
and counting, we continue to expand our knowledge of our
nearest neighbor in space, and with that,
the rest of the universe.

What Lurks Beneath NASA's Chamber A - Duration: 2:38.
James Webb is currently undergoing a cryogenci vacuum test in a very large chamber
called Chamber A at NASA Johnson Space Center
and the purpose of this test to make sure that all the components of the telescope
are going to function in the cold vacuum environment of space
Title: Nithin Abraham, NASA Coatings engineer.
Abraham: I'm a coatings engineer and I'm working very closely
with the James Webb Contamination Control team. Before we start the
cryogenic test, the contamination control team works to clean the inside of the chamber so
Webb can stay as contamination free as possible. It's not possible
for anyone to access the chamber during the test so, we have to
do all our contamination mitigation before the test starts.
and my job specifically involves the development and testing of
a new NASA coatings technology that can help mitigate
molecular contamination concerns. So, the plenum is an area at the
bottom of Chamber A, its the space directly below where Webb sits
ready for testing. To get tot he plenum, we have to carefully walk
in the space between the helium shroud, which is surrounding Webb,
and the outer wall of Chamber A. There's no lights so we have to
wear headlamps. The plenum is considered a confined space becuase
there's only one way in, and only one way out. We have to wear oxygen
sensors to make sure that it's safe to be down there. We have to
take a ladder down to the plenum, that's the lowest level at the bottom of the chamber.
And the floor, is actually the curved bottom of Chamber A.
So there are molecular contaminants that exist in the plenum
for example you have your hydrocarbons and your silcones and
these are sometimes very difficult to remove almost completely,
and the contamination team has done an amazing job of reducing the
existing levels down to a very minimal amount and it's
this residual contaminants that can essentially out-gas during
vacuum testing, spread throughout the chamber, and perhaps even deposit on a
very cold. sensitive surface such as James Webb. Graphic: Molecular Adsorber Coating is a highly pourous material that can be sprayed onto surfaces
to passively capture molecular contaminants. Abraham: to tackle the problem at the source and
that's why we placed the MAC samples in the plenum area.
We do a thorough analysis on the types of contaminants that
were collected and how much, the data is very useful and shows that
we are protecting James Webb from molecular contamination
I've devoted a lot of my early career developing and testing
this coating, and I'm really happy to see it being used on a lot of flight projects.

Potassium Deficiency Treatment With 5 Natural Food - Duration: 14:09.
Top 10 Potassium-Rich Foods. Potassium is an important mineral, though less discussed than iron and calcium. At its core, potassium is crucial for life and the functioning of several organs including the heart, kidneys, brain and muscular tissues.
This mineral helps regulate blood pressure and aids the functioning of the heart and the nervous system. It also negates the damaging effects of sodium, improves sleep quality, boosts mental function and aids muscular function and waste removal. Potassium also helps regulate your body's fluid levels. Here are the top 10 potassium-rich foods.
1, Bananas. Bananas are well-known for being rich in potassium. One medium-sized banana has 422 mg of potassium, or 12 percent of the recommended dietary intake. You can eat this fruit as a snack or add it to oatmeal, yogurt and smoothies.
Along with potassium, bananas contain fiber, vitamins B6 and C, iron, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Due to the natural sugars like sucrose, fructose and glucose in bananas, they are a great energy booster. In fact, bananas make a healthy, high-energy snack and are better than a sports drink. A 2012 study published in PLOS ONE reports that bananas provide cyclists with antioxidants not found in sports drinks as well as a greater nutritional boost, including fiber, potassium and vitamin B6. Regular intake of this tasty fruit helps regulate bowel movements, improve your heart health, treat anemia, lower your blood pressure, cure ulcers, soothe heartburn and improve your skin condition, to name a few.
2, Avocados. Just 1 ripe avocado provides 975 mg of potassium, which is equivalent to 30 percent of the recommended dietary intake. You can eat a half of a plain avocado sprinkled with lemon juice or your favorite seasoning to meet a good portion of your daily needs. You can also use avocado to make guacamole and other dips or add it to salads, smoothies or sandwiches. This superfood also has plenty of heart-healthy fats as well as fiber, potassium, B vitamins, vitamin K, copper, iron, phosphorus, protein and folate.
Including avocado in your diet can help ease arthritis symptoms, reduce your risk of certain cancers, lower your cholesterol level, boost your eye health, improve your heart health, promote weight loss, regulate your blood sugar and help with digestion. It also improves the production of collagen, which maintains your skin's elasticity and firmness.
3, Spinach. Most dark green vegetables are rich in potassium, but spinach is worth mentioning. Just 1 cup of boiled spinach provides 839 mg of potassium, which is equivalent to 24 percent of the recommended dietary intake. You can enjoy this green vegetable in salads, vegetable juice or green smoothies. Also, spinach can be added to soups, side dishes or omelets. Apart from potassium, spinach has calcium, vitamins A and K, dietary fiber, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, protein, selenium, copper and nitrates. Plus, these green leaves are high in water content and low in calories.
Some of the potential health benefits of consuming spinach include improving blood glucose levels, reducing the risk of cancer, lowering blood pressure, improving bone health, lowering the risk of developing asthma, improving bone health, fighting anemia, reducing inflammation, protecting your vision from age-related problems and lots more.
4, Sweet Potatoes. Another potassium-rich food is sweet potatoes. Just 1 medium-sized sweet potato contains 952 mg of this mineral, which is equivalent to 27 percent of the recommended dietary intake. You can enjoy them sautéed, baked, steamed or fried. You can also add sweet potatoes to soups or salads.
Sweet potatoes contain a good amount of vitamins A and C and also contain vitamins B1, B2 and B6. They also have manganese, copper, pantothenic acid, fiber, phosphorus, calcium, iron and complex carbohydrates. Regular intake of sweet potatoes can help reduce inflammation, improve your vision, protect your skin from sun damage, ward off cancer, fight premature aging, regulate your blood sugar level, boost your immune system, keep stress under control and much more.
5, White Beans. White beans are also a very rich source of potassium and just ½ cup provides you with 502 mg, or more than 15 percent of the daily recommended amount. You can add boiled white beans to salads, soups and stews. These beans can also be used to make burgers and hummus. These beans are also rich in fiber and contain folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, copper, phosphorus, vitamin B1 and plant-based protein.
Another good aspect of white beans is that they contain little to no fat and are cholesterol-free. By including white beans in your diet, you can prevent blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal, lower your heart attack risk, lower your cholesterol level, boost your energy level, maintain your memory, and prevent constipation and other common digestive disorders like diverticulitis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Groupthink on online platforms | IN 60 SECONDS - Duration: 1:24.
Online platforms such as Google and Facebook can promote groupthink, a mob mentality that
discourages creativity and individual responsibility.
You might have noticed that platforms and websites show you content you already agree
with.
It's also evident that groupthink has become part of the management of these companies.
For example, Google fired James Damore for advancing what was called "harmful gender
stereotypes."
And Facebook has suppressed news it considered to be conservative.
Now, people are calling for the government to regulate these tech giants.
That's the wrong approach.
The First Amendment states that "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of
speech."
But for years, regulators have been exacerbating the problem with policies such as Title II
Net Neutrality, which concentrates power with online platforms.
To create a marketplace of ideas online, regulators should remove the barriers to entry which
limit the ability of other companies to compete in the online advertising space.
If forced to compete for ad dollars, Silicon Valley would have less incentive to placate
its own bias and the market will have more meaningful platforms for different kinds of
speech.
To learn more about my take on platform competition, check out the links in the description below.

19th congress of Communist Party of China kicks off; Pres. Xi stresses national rejuvenation - Duration: 2:52.
China's Communist Party Congress begins.
There could be changes to its governing documents... and leadership made during the event.
Many anticipate President Xi Jinping will cement his rule by naming allies to top posts...
as he begins a second term.
Oh Jung-hee turns the spotlight to the Beijing's biggest political event.
The 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China kicked off in Beijing on Wednesday.
It's China's biggest political event, held only twice a decade.
More than 23-hundred delegates are in Beijing from around the country to elect a new Politburo
-- the group that effectively rules the country -- to make amendments to the constitution...
and to lay out plans for national development.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is starting his second term.
He's alread been declared the 'core leader' of the Party, but now his political stature
is to be put on par with that of the Party's founder Mao Zedong and his successor Deng
Xiaoping.
Opening the week-long congress, President Xi said that China has made some historic
achievements over past five years,... lifting over six million people out of poverty.
He stressed... that now the Party's task is to realize the "Chinese Dream" of national
rejuvenation -- developing "socialism with Chinese characteristics" for a new era...
and thereby completing the construction of a modern socialist state by the 2050s.
To do that, he emphasized,... centralized and unified leadership is the key.
(Chinese) "China is still and will long remain in the
primary stage of socialism, and China's international status as the world's largest developing country
has not changed.
The whole Party should work to unite people of all ethnic groups across the country to
achieve economic development as the main goal... and make China a powerful socialist state."
President Xi also emphasized that his fight against corruption will continue... by putting
power into what he called a stronger institutional cage... through legislation and measures like
a reporting platform.
Much attention is on who will rise as allies of President Xi.
Five new members will be appointed to the Politburo Standing Committee,... which is
China's top decision-making body.
For the opening of the Congress,... North Korea's ruling Workers' Party sent a message
of congratulations.
Pyongyang's state media reported that warm greetings and hope for a 'satisfactory success'
were delivered to the Chinese Party and the people.
But Pyongyang's message for this Congress was only three sentences long -- much shorter
than the one sent to Beijing for the previous congress in 2012... which was over 800 characters
long.
Also, while the previous messages have always emphasized 'securing and advancing the two
countries' long friendship,'... there was no mention of that this year,....
which reflects the cooler relations between the two over Pyongyang's continued provocations
and Beijing's sanctions on the regime..
Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News.

How Chinese leaders get elected? - Duration: 1:54.
Every five years
the Chinese Communist Party holds a 'party congress'
when it clicks the 'refresh button' on itself.
They elects a new generation of senior leaders
called the Politburo Standing Committee
The last time this happened was in 2012
Let's face it, you hear complaints that
the selection process is too secretive
and involves favoritism
But what people rarely mentioned
it's more than many other political systems
advancement in the Chinese Communist Party
is largely based on merit
To enter the Party and State official system
you must pass China's Civil Service Exam
This levels playing field
social rank does not affect test scores
For more than a thousand years
to serve in the Chinese government
high and low-born alike had to pass exams
The modern exam lasts five hours
It includes advanced mathematics, logic,
verbal skill, and world knowledge
If you pass, promotion is then
based on a ten-tier ranking system
On average, it takes 20 to 30 years for an
entry-level "ke" or "fu ke" civil servant
to become a "guo" or "fu guo" party or state leader
Very few get near the top.
Term limits also keep fresh ideas flowing
The party's top job is General Secretary
For the U.S. Congress, the turnover rate in any given
election is around 10 percent—or less
One Congressman, Rep. John Dingell of Michigan,
got re-elected 30 times
and spent 60 years in the House
What about the Communist Party of China?
The turnover rate of the Central Committee
maintain roughly about 62 percent
on average, every five years
So this, actually, turnover rate is actually
much faster than some of democracies around the world
As that shows, party elections can have this effect
Along with term limits, elections help promote reform
and helping ensure new Chinese leaders rise based
more on performance, than on privilege
