Hello there, how are you?
My name is Nia.
I'm a tank engine from Kenya in Africa.
Even though I now live here on Sodor,
I'm still very proud of my homeland.
I want to tell you why Africa is so important and special to me.
Africa is a big continent full of lots of different countries.
54, to be exact.
One of those countries is Kenya, where I'm from.
Kenya is on the East coast of Africa.
It has lots of different landscapes.
There are high mountains and savannahs,
where animals like elephants, lions, and rhinos live.
But it also has some big cities.
Nairobi is Kenya's capital city.
It's a busy, modern city with lots of impressive buildings
and things to do.
I used to work on the East African Railway.
I helped shunt and pull good trains from Kenya
all the way across Africa to many amazing places,
like the busy port of Dakar in the country of Senegal.
There, big boats bring goods from all over the world.
The port is so vibrant and colorful, and filled with noise.
The goods are loaded onto trains,
and taken by engines like me all the way across Africa.
Africa is a big continent,
and these journeys can take a long time.
But I don't mind.
Africa is so incredible.
There is so much to see.
From colorful busy towns and cities,
to yellow, sandy deserts.
Then, lush green plantations,
through the sun-soaked open savannah plains,
are all full of wonderful wildlife.
Let me tell you about some of the animals in Africa.
There are tall giraffes,
who reach up high into the sky like cranes.
Elegant gazelles, who race by at speed like small steam engines.
Zebras, with their beautiful black and white markings.
And big strong elephants,
who are just as powerful as some engines.
And there are also camels with their funny humps,
who can travel for miles without having a drink.
One of my favorite places to go is Dar es-Salam,
in the country of Tanzania, where I get to see my friend Kwaku.
Kwaku is a huge engine.
He's more than three times as long as I am.
Kwaku really makes me laugh.
He's funny and caring.
I miss him a lot.
But I know we'll always be friends,
even if I'm now far away with my new friends.
I'm learning lots of new things, which is fun.
And I've been able to teach my friends here
things I've learned in my home.
I'll never forget all the wonderful things in my homeland.
My Kenya.
