Youtube daily Dec 21 2017

Hi-Lo dressing is not a salad dressing for bi-polar people.

Hi-Lo dressing means mixing high-end designer pieces with lower budget or mass market pieces.

Think of it as Marc Jacobs meets markdowns from Target, by mixing the two you can produce

stunning style results and many compliments.

Now the only question is, how do we get our hands on some designer pieces to really make

this makeover happen?

This video series is called, "Haute Wheel", and we' will explore how to pull off Hi-Lo

dressing, and how to get the lowdown on low prices.

Get haute style for hot prices so we can begin sprinkling in designer pieces into our wardrobe.

Step right up folks and spin the wheel!

Hi-Lo can you go, Hi-Lo can you go.

So again, this is what Hi-Lo dressing is.

You can see there we have a skirt for $420, and for many of us that's going to be a little

bit out of our budget right?

But you can make it extra chic by pairing it with something super cool like this "NY

Pizza" t-shirt from Target for only $14.99.

This in essence is Hi-Lo dressing.

Like I said, for many of us that $420 skirt is out of our price range so what we need

to do is figure out how can we score some of these designer pieces so that we can start

doing Hi-Lo dressing.

So let's see, here's the Haute Wheel, where will it land today?

What are we going to learn?

Used clothing stores, yes, this is a great resource to learn how to score designer duds

at a discount price.

Okay?

So we're going to go over how to do that.

This episode is all about used clothing stores.

So let me show you some of the things that I've found at used clothing stores.

So I have found a pair of Prada ballet flats, what you'll find too is many of the used clothing

stores, there's many different names we'll go over what the different ones can be called,

but some are higher-end.

Meaning they only have designer pieces, and others have a mix of some and others are really

just thrift shops.

But I found great deals at many of them, like I said these Prada flats that I found were

a great find.

I have also found designer handbags.

Many of the stores that I visited, whether they were traditional thrift stores or higher

end one that just deals with designer stuff, have these handbags at a discount.

So this particular one is the brand Dimoni, it's a Spanish brand, and I was able to score

a really beautiful purse for a relatively cheap price compared to what it traditionally

would've sold for.

But they always have, all the stores I went to, they always have designer handbags in

stock.

So, how can you find these used clothing stores and start having these finds for yourself?

And yes it can be a little time-consuming, sometimes you just got to get into that kind

of mood to feel like browsing through things and its really exciting when you do have these

great finds.

So first, how do you find the used clothing stores that are near you?

So of course we're going to start with Google.

Just type in "used clothing stores" and then you want to type in your city so you can go

"and San Diego" or "and San Francisco" and you may even do your zip code okay?

So you're going to look for that, then you're going to get a list of search results like

this with a list of different stores.

So you can see there's Buffalo Exchange, that is a very popular chain store so they have

many of those all across the country.

You see Thrift Trader showed up, and there's even more than this so it's not just the three.

So you can see down here at the bottom of the screen where it says "More Places", you

can click on that and it'll bring up even more.

So Google would be where I would recommend to start to find these used clothing stores.

Next, you can go to Yelp as well, so you just go to Yelp.com and you're going to "Find:

used clothing", and then you would do "Near" and you would type in your city or your zip

code.

So, Monterey, California, okay let's see what pulls up.

Hey, you see that map over there?

You see the arrow there pointing to all the stores that are near you?

And then at the top of the results will be the ads, so these aren't necessarily things

that meet your criteria but you can see some of these relate to clothing okay, based on

your search results.

But what you want to do is look below the ads and actually see the results that are

showing stores near you okay?

So for this example we've searched for "used clothing stores", but as I mentioned they

go by many different names and a lot of times it indicates what kind of goods that they

have.

So "used clothing store", there's "thrift stores" and a lot of times they will have

many different pieces.

You may not be able to score as many designer finds there, okay?

"Consignment shops" a lot of times those will have higher-end designer pieces.

"Vintage clothing stores", again, you can find great finds here and you can find classic

pieces.

And some of the most unique things I've found were at vintage clothing stores that I get

the most compliments on.

And you can also search for "resale clothing".

So these are all things you can go to Google, type them in, and go to Yelp, type them in,

and see what's available near you.

They also do have a number of online retailers that specialize in vintage clothing, and you

want to find one.

They have people that make replica of vintage clothing, and those will come up in the search

results, but there's actual retailers that have a practice of actually going out and

scoring these different pieces and then turning around and reselling them online.

So you want to look there as well.

So let's go, you have the basic concept of a Hi-Lo outfit, but let's say you find a great

used clothing store near you and you find this amazing skirt.

It is a Yves Saint Laurent Vintage Skirt, it's absolutely gorgeous right?

So you're Hi-Lo dressing, so does that mean you have to wear a YSL top with that?

No, it does not.

You can take a top from a store like romwe.com and it's $11, and pair that top with that

skirt.

That is the essence of Hi-Lo dressing, something high-end with something more mass market.

And again, it's an unexpected pairing and because you have this higher-end piece with

it makes the whole outfit look more expensive as well.

Then you just add simple accessories, you see we did basic high heels, we added a ring

and some very fine earrings to this outfit.

A great Hi-Lo outfit, a great look.

So, for this series you know we're doing a scavenger hunt, and it's going to allow you

to practice and find all of these great resources.

So for this one, you have to find used clothing stores near you.

So I went on, I went on to Google, I went on to Yelp and looked and I did used clothing

stores and I found out there were five near me.

Okay, so you have no excuse, you found out the ones that are near you.

Just set dates on your calendar and go have fun.

Go grab a smoothie and then just wander those stores and find out just what sort of finds

you can have.

I love spending an afternoon doing that, I usually end up going into the dressing room

with a pile of stuff and when I go to check out I'm always surprised because then the

tab comes up to $100 and you've gotten like 15 things.

So it's amazing, you'll fall in love with it too.

So this is part of the scavenger hunt, go find out how many used clothing stores are

near you.

To download this document or our scavenger hunt that we're using for this series, just

use the link below the video to download the scavenger hunt paper there that you see on

the screen and get to filling out the items and get to incorporate these designer pieces

into your wardrobe.

So that's it for this episode of Haute Wheel, I hope you enjoyed it and learning how to

find used clothing stores near you.

See you on the next episode and where will the wheel land next?

Thanks, bye.

N. Korea to seek talks with U.S. once it has perfected ICBM re-entry technology: Seoul think tank - Duration: 2:12.

With a new year just around the corner, a local think tank summed up an outlook on international

affairs for 2018.

Included are speculations on North Korea's missile technology and what would happen if

they were to complete it.

Lee Jeong-yeon brings us the KNDA analysis.

With North Korea's latest test of its Hwasong-15 ICBM in November, the world was left speculating

what its next move would be.

A South Korean think tank has attempted to provide some answers.

In its report "Outlook on International Affairs for 2018," the Institute of Foreign Affairs

and National Security says the biggest task left for the regime is to perfect its missile

technology, with the remaining part being re-entry technology.

(Kor) A successful missile launch must have three

things: launch trajectory, position control, and re-entry.

North Korea's missiles currently have the first two, but not re-entry.

But why is re-entry technology so important?

(Kor) "Re-entry is what allows a nuclear warhead

to withstand extreme heat and pressure when passing through the Earth's atmosphere.

Without it, the missile would not be able to drop nuclear weapons onto its target area.

That's why it's so important."

The expert added that there are two possible scenarios for the future.

One, North Korea doesn't succeed in its re-entry technology next year, in which case they will

continue testing ICBMs.

But the second scenario is what's drawing the most attention.

If they do succeed, they will most likely seek disarmament talks with the United States.

(Kor) "North Korea will most likely demand to be

recognized as a nuclear state and to keep a certain level of nuclear technology, in

exchange for limiting their ICBM capabilities, enough to attack neighboring countries."

The expert added that the timeline in which this would happen could vary from a few months

to a few years.

But it is only a matter of time.

And when that time comes, the U.S. and the regime's neighboring countries such as South

Korea and Japan must decide on how to respond to North Korea's request to be recognized

as a nuclear state.

Korea makes final touches on Olympic preparation,.. as it celebrates G-50 until the Winter ... - Duration: 2:44.

We're just weeks away... from hosting our first Olympic Games in 3 decades here in Korea.

The organizing committee and others involved... are putting the final touches to be fully

prepared to play host to the global games.

Transport to the venues is ready... and upgrades to facilities are made to ensure athletes

and spectators are comfy and shielded from the cold.

Lee Ji-won gets us up to speed with the progress.

With only 50 days left to go until the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics,.. Korea is putting

on its final touches... on 6-and-a-half years worth of preparations.

On Thursday, a ceremony was held to mark the launch... of the Gyeonggang high-speed KTX

rail line.

Extending the previous route to the eastern city of Gangneung,... the new line takes visitors

from Seoul... directly to the host cities of the 2018 Olympics in a much shorter time.

It normally took 3 to 6 hours,... depending on the mode of transportation, to get to Gangneung

from Seoul,... but the new line cuts the travel time to slightly under 2 hours.

(Korean) "The existing line went around the region

to get to Gangneung, but the new line goes right through the Taebaek Mountain Range."

And during the Olympic season, more trains will be running,.. not to mention the temporary

operation of trains from Incheon International Aiport straight to Pyeongchang and Gangneung.

The train will be officially opened to the public starting Friday.

Venues are also getting their final touches.

Jeongseon Alpine Centre, where one of the first Olympic events will be held, has completed

all of its construction and tests,... and now at the final stages of setting up the

fences, piling artificial snow and grooming the surface by January.

Now, while the construction of the Olympic Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies

will be held, was completed months ago,... the organizing committee is making improvements

in the facilities.

At a concert held at the stadium last month,.. a number of spectators suffered from hypothermia.

As fighting the cold has been one of the major concerns at next year's opening ceremony,...

the organizing committee will install heaters at corners and windshield.

(Korean- ) "We will build a transparent wall around the

inside of the stadium to block the wind from coming in without hindering the spectators'

view."

The committee also plans to distribute blankets, hot packs and other winter wears to keep the

spectators warm.

With the hardware for the Winter Games finalizing, the organizing committee is now focused on

boosting promotion and ticket sales... to get one step closer to successfully hosting

the country's first Olympics in 30 years.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in calls for social consensus among labor, management, - Duration: 2:37.

President Moon Jae-in has called for a grand compromise between the labor, management,

and the government.

A necessary step in achieving his administration's policy goal of income-led, people-centered

economic growth.

Our chief Cheongwadae correspondent Moon Connyoung shares with us the liberal leader's remarks.

"Together, we go further."

A ceremony at the Blue House celebrating the inauguration of a foundation dubbed "Public

Co-prosperity and Solidarity Fund... with roughly a hundred and twenty union leaders

and representatives of organizations that have set stellar examples in labor-management

relations.

This non-profit foundation was created based on a social solidarity fund raised by the

voluntary return of incentives from workers in the public and financial industries following

the abolition of the previous administration's performance-based wage system.

That amount has totaled 147 million U.S. dollars which the foundation plans to spend on improving

labor conditions for non regular workers and creating more jobs.

(Korean) "This administration has placed the utmost

priority on the policy agenda of creating good jobs; increasing the number of jobs,

reducing irregular jobs and enhancing the quality of employment.

, , , ' ' .

South Korean President Moon Jae-in welcomed the move noting sound industrial relations

and effective social dialogue are key to achieving his administration's goal of people-centered

economy... one that is free of extreme economic inequality and social polarization.

(Korean) "To do so, we need a grand social compromise

whereby each of us make little concessions, share our burdens and narrow the gaps.

, , . A sustainable social development will not

be possible without a grand consensus among the tripartite members; the labor, management,

and the government."

.

The South Korean president added... in order to achieve many of his administration's policy

goals in realizing inclusive growth... where the benefits from growth are evenly distributed

to the people... this compromise is absolutely critical and the single most important factor

is having faith in the government.

(STAND-UP) "Give it a year... he said.

Just one full year of support from both the labor and the management... and we'll prove

to you that our policies actually work; we'll make sure that all actors in this relationship...

the society as a whole reap the benefits of this government's economic and labor policies.

That's the message from this president who kicks off the first full year of his administration

in a little over a week.

Corporate taxes across OECD on downward trend, but Korea to raise corporate taxes for next year - Duration: 2:07.

Over in Washington.

Republicans celebrate their first major legislative victory of the year.

The most sweeping re-write of the U.S. tax bill in 31 years.

While corporate tax is on a downward trend for other major countries, Korea is raising

its income tax rates for the upcoming year.

Cha Sang-mi takes a closer look into the implications of the contrasting trend.

U.S. President Trump enjoyed his first major legislative win on Wednesday after a year

of GOP infighting and political stumbles.

The most extensive tax reform since 1986 has passed through Congress, and now heads to

Trump's desk to be signed into law on January third next year.

The changes would cut federal revenue by almost one-and-a-half-trillion U.S. dollars over

the coming decade, but Republicans claim it will boost economic growth and create jobs.

(English) Reuters - Edit No3210 "We are going to bring at least four trillion

dollars back into this country.

Money that was frozen overseas and in parts and worlds and, some of them don't even like

us."

The bill cuts the corporate tax rate to 21 percent from the current 35 percent.

With Trump's win on the tax code rewrite, a downward trend in global corporate tax rates

is expected.

Some major countries are already jumping on the tax reduction bandwagon.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had already decided to cut corporation tax to below 30

percent and is in the process of cutting the effective tax rate to around 35 percent.

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced steep cuts in corporation tax, reducing it

to 25 percent by 2022 from its current level of 33 percent.

While other OECD member nations are busy cutting corporation tax, Korea seems to be going in

the other direction.

On December 5th, Korean lawmakers agreed to raise the income tax rate for some of the

country's highest-earning companies to 25 percent from the current 22 percent.

Day 8 Liches | The 12 mobs of DnD-mas - Duration: 5:36.

Welcome DnD enthusiasts to the 12 days of DnD-mas!

I'm your host Jorphdan the PH is silent.

For the next 12 days we're going to be looking at classic dungeons and dragons monsters,

their origins, their behaviors, and anything else I find interesting.

So be sure to subscribe so you can catch every video as it's released.

Visit my patreon to support the channel and for extra goodies, and hit that like button

as it really helps out the channel!

On the eighth day of Christmas my DM gave to me "8 Liches casting"

I've got 99 problems but a Lich ain't one.

AmmIRight?

Liches are undead spellcasters of a powerful level.

Most Liches were wizards but could also be sorcerers or clerics.

A Lich is the remains of these mortal creatures who embraced undeath as a means of preserving

themselves.

Most Liches hunger for long-forgotten knowledge and terrible secrets.

It is not an easy decision to become a Lich.

The process of becoming a lich is a well-guarded secret.

In order to discover this process many wizards will make deals with fiends, or evil gods.

The process is an arcane ritual that traps the caster's soul into a device known as

a phylactery.

Doing this binds the soul to the mortal world, it cannot pass on into the next.

A phylactery can really take any form, sometimes it's an amulet or a small gem encrusted

box.

Once the phylactery is prepared the future lich drinks a potion of transformation which

kills them.

Their soul is drawn into the phylactery and they rise back as an undead lich.

A lich must feed souls to its phylactery to sustain the magic that preserves their body

and consciousness.

There is a specific spell called imprisonment that does this.

It traps the targets body and soul into the phylactery.

After 24 hours the creature is consumed and destroyed entirely.

I'm not sure how often a lich must do this, but if they don't their physical body begins

to fall apart.

With this phylactery when a lich's body is destroyed or broken the mind of the lich

leaves it and rushes back into the phylactery wherever it is.

Within days a new body reforms next to the phylactery.

To truly kill a lich you must destroy its phylactery which can be difficult to find.

Liches hide their phylacteries very well as to prevent certain destruction.

I mean the whole point of becoming a lich is to subvert certain destruction, makes sense

you would take precautions for your phylactery.

Destroying a phylactery is no easy task and often involves a special ritual or item, or

weapon.

Because each phylactery is unique one must discover its unique form of destruction.

In other words we're leaving it open for the Dungeon Master to decide.

Liches are spellcasters.

An 18th-level spellcaster in 5th edition DnD.

Although undead they have advantage on saving throws vs turn undead.

With legendary resistances, an arsenal of spells, and their paralyzing touch attack

taking out a lich could prove difficult.

4th edition lore said that all liches pay homage to Orcus, and it is said that Orcus

can instantly destroy the phylactery of any lich that displeases him.

Which I doubt this is the case anymore, or at least I hope not.

I can't see liches bowing down to a greater power ever, that's the whole arrogant personality

of liches.

There are other types of Liches, such as the dracolich which was a dragon that voluntarily

tied its soul to a phylactery.

In order to become a dracolich a dragon needs help.

A group of mages of cultists need to be present to perform the proper ritual.

Dracoliches once created send their spirit out to inhabit their old bones.

They can apparently do this with any reptilian creature, so when their current body becomes

too decayed they can transfer bodies.

The dracolich and his phylactery much be on the same plane though in order for his soul

to reach his phylactery if the body is ever destroyed.

Famous liches include Acererak who I made a video about links in the doobly do.

He currently runs the tomb of horror and can be found in the DnD 5th edition adventure

Tomb of Annihilation.

Probably the most famous Lich, I guess I shouldn't say that I don't know many liches, there

might be some more famous.

But a lich everyone should know is Vecna from the Greyhawk campaign setting.

Way back in 1974 with the original dungeons and dragons there were two artifacts invented

for that game called the Hand and Eye of Vecna.

They were the only remnants of an evil lich, Vecna, who had been destroyed long ago.

Vecna's history was mere myth in early dungeons and dragons but was expanded by 1990 with

the adventure "Vecna Lives!"

Vecna created a sword and gave it to his lieutenant Kas and it became known as the Sword of Kas,

another fancy artifact you'll find in the Dungeon Master's Guide.

Kas turned on Vecna and attack him with the sword.

Legend says that the only items remaining after the fight was the Hand and eye of Vecna.

Vecna later returned as a deity and has many worshipers in the greyhawk setting.

Also made popular by Critical Role Vecna is sure to pop up again somewhere.

Szass Tam is another famous lich, this one from the Forgotten Realms.

He's on a council of Red Wizards known as the Zulkirs.

He is the Zulkir of necromancy that oversees and controls Thay. he's mentioned heavily

in my video on the Red Wizards, link in the doobly do.

Although no official rules I could find there are plenty of fan made stuff about turning

your player character into a lich.

I imagine you're at the end of a campaign it would be a fun thing to change your character

over to a lich and achieve immortality.

There are good liches I should point out, Archliches they are called and I couldn't

find much information on aside from some 3rd edition material in the monster manual.

That's it for today everyone, thanks for watching please hit that like button and I

will see you all in the next video.

2 North Korean men found in East Sea... southern border defections up to 15 in 2017 - Duration: 2:20.

Two other North Koreans also made the dangerous crossing.

It happened on Wednesday... this time... civilians.

They were said to have been found on a boat in the East Sea.

That brings the total number of North Koreans who defected directly across the border to

the South this year 15, three times higher than 2016.

Kwon Jang-ho has this report.

South Korea's unification ministry revealed that two North Korean men were found in the

East Sea on Wednesday morning.

A navy patrol team found them aboard a small wooden boat about a hundred kilometers north

of Dokdo Island, and they expressed their wish to defect to the South.

They have been taken in by Seoul authorities, where they will be questioned further before

the process of integrating them into South Korean society begins.

Direct defections to South Korea are rare, as the inter-Korean border is one of the most

heavily guarded areas in the world, including a four-kilometer wide demilitarized zone that

is said to contain over a million landmines.

North Korean defectors often choose a less dangerous and more porous route along the

border between North Korea and China to escape to a third country before entering South Korea.

But since Kim Jong-un came to power, defections have dropped by almost 50-percent.

However, so far this year, 15 North Koreans have defected directly into South Korea, via

land and sea, marking a three-fold increase compared to only 5 defectors in 2016.

Although the unification ministry has said the numbers are not strong enough to suggest

anything significant, experts are pointing out the defections are a reflection of the

current state inside North Korea.

(Korean ) "Restlessness remains among the people living

under the Kim Jong-un rule, especially with international sanctions and hardships crippling

the regime.

That in turn intensifies the will to defect, but as the northern route has become more

dangerous and broker fees have become more expensive, there seems to be an increase in

people heading directly to the south, despite the risks that route poses."

With Seoul and Washington vowing to exert more pressure and seek stronger sanctions

against Pyongyang as long as the regime continues with its provocations, North Korea watchers

are keeping tabs on whether the trend of direct defections southwards will continue.

Kwon Jang-ho, Arirang News.

AlphaZero: DeepMind's New Chess AI | Two Minute Papers #216 - Duration: 6:35.

Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.

After defeating pretty much every highly ranked professional player in the game of Go, Google

DeepMind now ventured into the realm of Chess.

They recently challenged not the best humans, no-no-no, that was long ago.

They challenged Stockfish, the best computer chess engine in existence in quite possibly

the most exciting chess-related event since Kasparov's matches against Deep Blue.

I will note that I was told by DeepMind that this is the preliminary version of the paper,

so now we shall have an initial look, and perhaps make a part 2 video with the newer

results when the final paper drops.

AlphaZero is based on a neural network and reinforcement learning and is trained entirely

through self-play after being given the rules of the game.

It is not to be confused with AlphaGo Zero that played Go.

It is also noted that this is not simply AlphaGo Zero applied to chess.

This is a new variant of the algorithm.

The differences include: - one, the rules of chess are asymmetric,

for instance pawns only move forward, castling is different on kingside and queenside, and

this means that neural network-based techniques are less effective at it.

- two, the algorithm not only has to predict a binary win or loss probability when given

a move, but draws are also a possibility and that is to be taken into consideration.

Sometimes a draw is the best we can do, actually.

There are many more changes to the previous incarnation of the algorithm, please make

sure to have a look at the paper for details.

Before we start with the results and more details, a word on Elo ratings for perspective.

The Elo rating is a number that measures the relative skill level of a player.

Currently, the human player with the highest Elo rating, Magnus Carlssen is hovering around

2800.

This man played chess blindfolded against 10 opponents simultaneously in Vienna a couple

years ago and won most of these games.

That's how good he is.

And Stockfish is one of the best current chess engines, with Elo rating over 3300.

A difference of 500 Elo points means that if it were to play against Magnus Carlssen,

it would be expected to win at least 95 games out of a 100.

Though it is noted that there is a rule suggesting a hard cutoff at around a 400 point difference.

The two algorithms then played each other.

AlphaZero versus Stockfish.

They were both given 60 seconds of thinking time per move, which is considered to be plenty

given that both of the algorithms take around 10 seconds at most per move.

And here are the results.

AlphaZero was able to outperform Stockfish in about 4 hours of learning from scratch.

They played a 100 games - AlphaZero won 28 times, drew 72 times and never lost to Stockfish.

Holy mother of papers, do you hear that?

Stockfish is already unfathomably powerful compared to even the best human prodigies,

and AlphaZero basically crushed it after four hours of self-play.

And, it was run with a similar hardware as AlphaGo Zero, one machine with 4 Tensor Processing

Units.

This is hardly commodity hardware, but given the trajectory of the improvements we've seen

lately, it might very well be in a couple of years.

Note that Stockfish does not use machine learning and is a handcrafted algorithm.

People like to refer to computer opponents in computer games as AI, but it is not doing

any sort of learning.

So, you know what the best part is?

AlphaZero is a much more general algorithm that can also play Shogi on an extremely high

level, which is also referred to as Japanese chess.

And this is one of the most interesting points - AlphaZero would be highly useful even it

if were slightly weaker than Stockfish, because it is built on more general learning algorithms

that can be reused for other tasks without investing significant human effort.

But in fact, it is more general, and it also crushes Stockfish.

With every paper from DeepMind, the algorithm becomes better AND more and more general.

I can tell you, this is very, very rarely the case.

Total insanity.

Two more interesting tidbits about the paper: one, all the domain knowledge the algorithm

is given is stated precisely for clarity.

two, one might think that as computers and processing power increases over time, all

we have to do is add more brute force to the algorithm and just evaluate more positions.

If you think this is the case, have a look at this - it is noted that AlphaZero was able

to reliably defeat Stockfish WHILE evaluating ten times fewer positions per second.

Maybe we could call this the AI equivalent of intuition, in other words, being able to

identify a small number of promising moves and focusing on them.

Chills run down my spine as I read this paper.

Being a researcher is the best job in the world.

And we are even being paid for this.

Unreal.

This is a hot paper, there is lot of discussions out there on this, lots of chess experts analyze

and try to make sense of the games.

I had a ton of fun reading and watching through some of these, as always, Two Minute Papers

My Team Roping Memorial | Livermore, CA | Vlog - Duration: 15:16.

(guitar song begins)

Ready? Yeah.

All right. Today I am at the first memorial Mike Giannini oping event in

Livermore, California, at Basso's Arena and we are going to see a lot of steers

being roped and horses and cowboys and cowgirls, and I have Bailey behind me.

She's practicing for the dummy roping event, and we're going to have a lot of

fun. And it's all for charity to raise money for scholarships for the young

Future Farmers of America, so stay with me.

(sings National Anthem)

(buzzer)

(announcer reads donor names)

Mike ran the grass-fed cattle program at Tomcat

Ranch in Pescadero,

when my son Walker arrived fresh from Stanford.

Mike taught him everything about ranching. He was one of his greatest mentors.

Five months after this photo was taken,

Mike died.

(buzzer)

This event is held in his honor.

(announcer calling roper names)

Mike and I roped together for

about ten years. He was always my heeler. He told me, I'll heal with you anytime.

Always took good care of me, even when I didn't catch, he didn't care, and we had a

lot of fun together. He was a good man. Mike was on the volunteer fire department,

and I dispatch for the Sheriff's Office. So we always would talk in codes and

nobody knew what we were talking about, so we had our little thing. It was kind

of fun, and he was just a nice, nice man.

(horse whinny)

(energetic western music begins)

Ooh!

(announcer calling roper names)

(announcer calling roper names)

And I'm so happy that there's so many people from San Mateo County

representing us because, I want some one of his friends to win this saddle, yeah,

cause Scotty's riding his horse. His best friend's riding his horse today.

So. I got my fingers crossed. How long have you been riding? A long

long time, but I've only been roping about 12 years. I started roping when I

was in my 40s, yeah. I took a roping class and then three horses, truck, trailer,

everything later, here I am. Wow!

So you have a full time job?

Full-time job, plus, and I got two horses that I keep ridden all the time. I rope

twice a week. Wow, I'm impressed. Thank you.

Yeah, it's fun, it's kind of addicting.

Yeah, show me that thumb.

Ha, ha. That's why you're not riding today.

That's why I'm not riding. But, I've still got it.

Lot of people don't. Kind of embarrassing, but that's the way it is, part of the sport. Right.

I say that now. Ha, ha, ha.

I might be scared when I get back on the horse again.

Anyway, I'm just tickled everybody's

out here today.

(buzzer)

(energetic western music begins)

Ten years ago, when I started going to these, they weren't as welcoming to the

women as they are now. They're a lot better. And a lot of times I go to

practice, and I'm the only woman. And I do go to some jackpots, and I'm the only

woman, or maybe one other girl, young girl, not very many women my age at all, and

they sure weren't starting it at 44 years old. Right.

I was pretty comfortable, and another thing is I was super stubborn,

and I loved it, and I didn't want to stop. I loved it. I loved

being around it. I love being in a dirty arena, I loved everything about it.

(announcer: Ropers, if you want to get signed up for the second number six picks, or draw)

(announcer calling names and scores)

(western song ends)

(haunting western guitar begins)

She's going again.

Okay when you rope, you want to handle your steer

really good for your heeler, so you want a rope it, move across the arena and

give him a good shot, give your heeler a good shot. Mike liked

them if they were flopping all over the place. He could rope better like that. He was, he

was a, he was a cowboy. He was a cowboy. Yeah, he could just find

that opening to get the rope in there. Yep. He was a cowboy. Yep, yep.

Kind of emotional. Yeah.

Now he's a roper, and see he missed.

(metal gates bang)

Ye-awwww!

Hey, Jake!

Jake worked at the ranch with Walker. They spent many happy lunches

with Mike at the Pescadero Country Store.

The cafe would burn to the ground in 2016.

(haunting song ends)

(announcer calling names and scores)

(energetic western music begins)

Yes!

Yeah, Bobby.

(crowd cheers and applauds)

(announcer calls scores)

(music ends with flourish)

Is there a rope in there? Yeah. Okay, and your name is Blake? Nice!

Congratulations. Thank you. All right do you want to do this your whole life?

You do? Awesome.

Well, good luck. Thank you. See ya.

(haunting guitar music)

(announcer: Thanks everyone for coming. Thanks for sticking around.)

Emerging SNS market in South Korea - Duration: 4:22.

America's 'Black Friday'.

Single's Day in China.

Shopping platforms have grown tremendously.

Here in Korea, there's a new player that's rising fast, reaching beyond the limits of

online shopping.

Won Jung-hwan shows how the social network service market is satisfying customers with

greater personalized options.

Social Network Services have become the fastest growing shopping platform, outperforming other

platforms like TV home shopping or internet shopping malls, and creating a buzz in South

Korea.

SNS is being used by firms, not just to share information about their products, but to also

sell their products directly, and promote them with special offers and events, like

one held last week through SNS involving over a thousand companies.

(KOREAN)

"The first edition of 12-12 day event was held to build consumer interest within the

SNS market and provide users with an opportunity to purchase quality products at a highly discounted

price."

SNS marketing uses social media platforms to connect consumers with products through

virtual communities, and allow firms to interact with customers and provide products tailored

to their needs.

The CEO of 'MONICA-ROOM', one of the first companies to use SNS marketing in Korea, says

that its big advantage over conventional marketing is the ability to adapt to customers' personalized

needs.

(KOREAN)

"We visit our customers' SNS pages, and we communicate with them as they receive our

news feeds.

If you compare SNS with general online shopping malls, SNS platforms can communicate one-on-one

with people, and this can lead to customized sales marketing to each individual"

Traditional online shopping platforms are often limited to 'telling' people what to

buy, with few mechanisms to obtain customer feedback.

But the open nature of SNS allows participants to share their views and feedback on brands,

products, and services.

(KOREAN)

"On traditional platforms, marketing is often viewed as brand-storytelling.

But now if you look at SNS marketing, it is more like 'brand-storydoing', meaning that

customers and viewers are actively taking part in selling a brand's products."

As customers can ask questions and voice their concerns directly to companies through social

media, they can make more informed purchasing decisions, leading to fewer returned products

or requests for refunds.

(KOREAN)

"As we continue posting reliable information, those who like our information visit our products'

websites.

And a relationship of trust between the buyer and seller forms within the online platform."

But there are also costs to marketing through SNS.

Since SNS is mostly about one-on-one communication, companies need to hire personnel to handle

social media interactions.

And the viral way information spreads through SNS doesn't always work in a company's favor...

(KOREAN)

"Since SNS marketing often engages through live platforms, any negative reviews or comments

regarding a company can suddenly spread to all those people who follow the company."

But at the same time, the 'live' nature of SNS can help create a positive buzz around

a product and drive social shopping among SNS users.

As followers of a product repost comments made by others, a small piece of marketing

can reach a large audience.

But companies can't sit back and be passive when it comes to social media.

(STANDUP)

"Nearly 2.5 billion people around the globe use some sort of social media.

But a large audience on social media does not always translate into strong sales figures.

The real key to success is increasing audience activity and engagement with the product"

SNS marketing is trying to break out from the sectors where it was first introduced,

like fashion and cosmetics.

Now it's possible to buy such varied items as agricultural products through social media

platforms.

By reducing distribution costs and allowing people to purchase fresh products, straight

from the source, SNS marketing is bringing convenience and efficiency to both companies

and consumers in South Korea.

S. Korean economy to grow 3% next year: BOK Governor - Duration: 2:30.

The nation's central banker says he expects the local economy will maintain its growth

momentum through next year.

Barring any surprises... strong exports should provide some assurance.

Kim Ji-yeon breaks down the digits for us.

At a meeting with economic experts on Thursday, Bank of Korea Governor Lee Ju-yeol said the

South Korean economy will continue to grow and will reach its potential growth rate of

three percent next year on the back of the global economic recovery,... under the assumption

that there are no surprises on the way that may trigger a setback.

This comes as the Governor looked back on 2017, which was riddled with uncertainties

including the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, increased trade protectionist measures,

and nuclear and missile provocations from North Korea.

(Korean) "Despite these hardships, the local economy

has managed to keep its growth rate in the three-percent range this year...

mainly due to companies' efforts to achieve high levels of exports."

He said Korean exports grew at the fastest pace among any of the ten major exporting

countries during the first nine months this year.

Its trade volume exceeded one-trillion U.S. dollars for the first time in three years.

And the amount of Korean exports is expected to increase for the 14th consecutive month

in December... as data from the Korea Customs Service shows it grew more than 16-percent

during the first 20 days of this month compared to the previous year... to reach 31-and-half-billion

dollars for the month,... mainly due to semiconductor exports.

(Korean ) "We're forecasting a more pessimistic growth

outlook for the local economy next year at 2-point-8-percent... slightly lower than the

BOK's projection.

It hinges on how fast domestic consumption and investments in construction and facilities

recover,... since the rate of export growth is expected to remain at a similar pace to

that of this year's."

The BOK Governor did however cite normalization of monetary policies including rate hikes

by major economies as a risk that could hamper growth.

(standup) "In order to maneuver through these potential

risks, he stressed the country needs to address its structural problems that are weighing

on the recovery pace of the local economy,... mainly the one-point-three-trillion dollar

household debt, record-high youth unemployment and low birthrate.

Kim Ji-yeon, Arirang News."
