Ok guys, we're in this restaurant, we're deep in some neighborhood in Nha Trang.
I have no idea where we're at. But this is what I've been told is
just like a daily, local Vietnamese dinner.
And you know, it's nothing fancy. Although to me, it looks like amazing.
But you know, they're not selling this in 5-star restaurants, this is like a local restaurant.
Grandma made this kind of a place.
And I'm really excited about these items.
So I'm just going to load up my rice bowl real quick guys.
So we have 3 different things that we ordered.
The star of all of this is this dish here.
This is called cá bóp, and it's... what I looked up online, it's Cobia fish.
I've never heard of Cobia fish. But it's similar to, I guess it's in the carp family.
Anyway, look at that size!
That is one huge filet! Wow!
So there's lots of bamboo in there.Got bamboo shoots.
There's taro stem, and then, yeah just a lot of different things.
Bean sprouts, there's red peppers, there's tomato.
There's a lot of things in it. So this is like a sour soup.
Yeah, look at that hefty piece. Oh my god, it's so big.
And then over here, we have pork rib marinated in some kind of a sauce. I don't know what it's made of.
And that's going to be really good. It smells really good.
And then we have egg, so this egg was fried up and it has onion and minced pork inside.
So this is going to be really cool.
Yeah, it's topped with cilantro as a garnish.
You can even see some of the scallions mixed in with the egg.
There's these pickled bean sprouts as well
And this is kind of like uhmm... in the same way you eat sushi and you have the pickled ginger.
Something to kind of help refresh your palate, after you eat some heavier kind of meats and stuff.
So that's what this is. It's going to be a bit sour.
Normal fish sauce. We have some other kind of fish sauce, I have no idea what's in it.
We have a different other fish sauce over here, and this one is the fermented shrimp paste, mắm tôm.
And I love that.
But these, I've never had before, these 2.
This one, super common.
But yeah, really excited for this.
And then of course, the number one staple: rice.
Let's go straight for the first thing, and we're going to get a big piece of this Cobia fish.
with the soup, we're going to put that right on my rice.
And a bunch of soup, yeaaahhh, that's going to be good.
Check out the size of this piece, it's got the nice skin on the outside there.
It looks a bit fatty, there's a layer of fat and this... ohhh it smells really nice.
Dip it in the fish sauce. And I'm just going to eat this whole thing.
Mmmm
That big piece, only 1 little bone.
That's how much meat is in here. Wow!
That is awesome.
I have to have the broth.
Woah!
Right away, I taste lemongrass and ginger.
It's not as sour as you might expect.
It's definitely kind of refreshing.
Mmmmmm nom nom nom
Now, all of that stuff is mixed in with the rice.
I'm just going to get a nice heapful of that.
I'm going to chase it with some of the sour bean sprouts.
Wow!
Mmmm!
Super like, in your face.
Pickled.
Pretty sour. But really nice, really nice.
I love sour things.
Next thing I'm going to try is the pork rib.
Here, it's still on the bone.
So I'm going to have to use my hands for this.
I just want to go straight for the pork by itself.
Nice and soft meat. Comes right off the bone.
Mmmm hmmmm
Oh yeah
This is good!
That sauce with rice is going to be awesome.
I want to try this egg. Egg with onion and minced pork, that sounds awesome.
Check this out.
So this one, dip it in the fish sauce. There's 3 different fish sauces and 1 fermented shrimp paste.
It's up to you on how you want to do it.
Depending on the region you come from, this place is a local restaurant.
So for example, someone from Nha Trang might choose the more meatier dipping sauce that has the pieces of fish actually in it.
Maybe someone from Da Nang might choose the more blended version.
You know, so it just depends on where the people come from and what their preference is.
So they just put it out on the table for you.
This place is pretty popular.
So I put this in fish sauce, just the first try.
Let's try it out.
Mmmm hmmmm
That's a good omelet.
It's like your standard normal omelet taste,
I don't notice the minced pork or onion.
But it's definitely good, and with that fish sauce, I've never had omelet with fish sauce.
That's a new thing for me.
So the thing about the dipping sauce, my girlfriend just told me.
This is the first time in her life, that she's actually had a meal, any Vietnamese meal, that had this many sauces.
That's 4.
At most, there's usually 2. There's 4 here.
So she's like "What? This is cool!"
So she's actually posting it on her Facebook right now.
And she showed me. It's like that how interesting it is to see this many sauces on the table at once.
Nice piece of the taro root (I meant stem). Put it on there.
Let's dig in the bottom here for a second and see what pops up.
Ah ha! A tomato!
Oh yeah, so I didn't get the tomato and I didn't get the bamboo in my first bite.
So that's in my bowl now.
Look at the fish sauce guys, it's got like pieces of it looks like anchovies.
You can see its head in there.
But I'm going to go ahead and dip my egg in that.
This thing is going to be super fishy, let's get a little bit in there.
Ooooh!
I like that. This one, with the fish.
Mmmm!
It's super fishy, but I like it. It's not overpowering where you're like "This is gross!"
It's actually like really good.
The best way I can describe it is, if you guys like anchovy, imagine that......
Ok, don't imagine that. Uhhmmmmm
Yeah, it's just good. Take my word for it.
It's just really powerful, but it matches the egg like super awesome.
I'm going to take some of that sauce from the pork, and I'm going to put it on my rice.
And get some rice with it too.
Rice and egg, with the pork sauce.
I know a lot of people that eat like little meat and stuff like this.
Even with the bone, they use the chopsticks and they just like
do like that.
To me, that's a lot of work. I just use my hands.
Get your hands dirty.
Mmmm hmmmm
There's a lot of meat on this.
Ahhhh
So refreshing guys.
"It's soooo yummy!"
My girlfriend and I, we were talking about this. Like when you're eating,
and you're filming, and you have to like pretend everything is so yummy in front of everybody.
Like ..."Mmmmm oh wow! It's sooo good! Mmmm!"
"Oh my god, it tastes like ______!"
Woah, light flicker
It's excessive, people don't normally eat like that.
So I think I'm going to be doing this from now on where I'm just eating as I normally eat.
Y'all can watch a different video if it's really boring, like you know, that's up to you.
But I don't want to fake the funk, you know what I'm saying.
I'm curious with the sour bean sprouts with the fish sauce.
Mmmmm!
That actually goes well together.
I have to try this guys, I love mắm tôm, the fermented shrimp paste.
Piece of egg and dip it in there.
Just a little bit. A little goes a long way.
Woah
I didn't get it initially at first, but on the back end, it kicked in real hard.
Pretty good. Pretty strong, but pretty good.
I really like this fish guys. It is extremely meaty.
And it reminds me of rockfish or catfish.
It's just super meaty, it's almost like chicken.
No bone in that bite
I dipped the fish in the fish sauce. Let's check it out.
Very fishy!
I think I got to chase that with some rice.
A bit too strong.
Nice piece of bamboo.
It's very chill in this restaurant. We're the only customers left.
I don't know what time it is, but it seems like they're just wrapping it up.
They're letting us eat, they're not kicking us out or anything but,
it's a family, it's the grandmother, her children, and her grandchildren.
And they run this restaurant.
And they're actually setting up an altar in front of the restaurant, let me show you guys.
So you can see the grandmother there, and they have this offering table.
That they've kind of made into a make-shift altar.
There's different candles, and other things on there.
It's pretty cool.
Ok, we're completely stuffed. That was a great like just local family-style meal in this restaurant.
If you guys want to come here, check the description box down below. It'll have a Google Map,
it'll have the address, the phone number, all that stuff for you guys.
If you're here in Nha Trang and you want to try it out for yourself, they're super friendly.
And I do want to say thanks to my girlfriend because she did find this place.
You know, she's been looking all over these different Vietnamese Facebook groups for food.
And you know, it's all in entirely Vietnamese, and so she scoured, she made a whole list.
And this is one of the most highly recommended places for just like local daily family-style dinner.
All I can say is I'm stuffed. The flavors are still lingering in my mouth.
I got that lemongrass going, I got the ginger.
And the fish. It's just a wonderful combination.
Thanks guys for watching! See you in the next video, goodbye!
