What's up, Citizens. Today's a beautiful day,
you can see the Sun shining, it's fucking awesome.
Today we are celebrating this man's birthday.
It's gonna be dope.
But we just got to drive somewhere. But this car
is fucking dirty.
But first we are gonna talk about 'Nobody Else'.
It's the first song on the album and we're gonna do
eight videos about each of the song
about it's meaning, why it's there on the album,
what's its message and so on.
If you haven't heard it yet, go check it out in the description,
there's a link. See you here in three and a half minutes
or something like that.
The very first idea for this song came to be when
Rafael was taking a bus to my place so we could compose some songs.
And he entered the room like: "There was so much negativity on the bus..."
- Yeah, exactly. So much negativity and so many angry people.
So I told Timmy "We need to work harder," and
we did and we are.
The song starts with the latin prayer. Why is it there, what does it mean?
- The latin prayer is there because
this monologue is used during funerals.
And it actually means that something old ended
and something new can begin. So I think it's a great start
for the album and a great start for us.
New era, new empire.
Exit Empire.
I think the strongest message in the song is the chorus.
"I want to be me and nobody else."
- Yeah, that is the strongest, the most emotional part for us.
- Even from the start, you know, "I'm not proud of my past actions..."
- Exactly, that's like...
- Basicaly... I'm not sure, - Life moves forward.
- but it was definitely one of the last lyrics
that we completed. And the line
"I'm not proud of my past actions, I wasn't always right,"
is... We actually realzsed that on the album we are so
sure about ourselves. That's not how it is in the real life.
So that's why we've put this line into the 'Nobody Else' lyrics.
- And mostly I think the big gamechanger is
when you realize that you aren't always right.
That you've made some mistakes. But you need to acknowledge that
and learn from them. And I think this is
the strong message in this first verse of 'Nobody Else'.
And "I will not bury my life under what you call right,"
you know... Everyone is telling you
what to do, why it should be, how your life should work, and what you should do,
but, you know... This was exactly the moment when
I came to your place. Right? From that bus,
where I had those people around, and you feel this negative energy,
this negativity all around you. And you are just "Fuck it,
I want to get out of here, somewhere I belong, I feel I belong."
And for us it's definitely somewhere with same-minded people as we are.
So this is the message.
- And "Couldn't lose dissatisfaction in comfort of disguise,"
that's like, again, you need to live your own life.
If you don't live your life, and you're in disguise, living somebody else's life,
for us, we weren't comfortable with that, so that's why we won't "bury our lives
under what they call right".
- Right.
What the fuck is that?
When we were composing this song,
it actually was called "Corn".
Like "Korn", but with the "C", not with "K".
It's a clear nod to Korn, because this song is so
nu-metal, it's just so jumpy. I love it.
And there's the bus.
Oh man, this is destiny.
- This is exactly the bus. We need to overtake the past.
- Yeah, we absolutely cannot be driving behind it, man.
Let's go.
Oh yeah, that's Exit Empire, baby.
- "Always tried to be accepted, never really fit."
- That's the beginning of the second verse.
- Yeah, when you try to belong somewhere...
You feel deep inside of you, you feel it isn't a place for you.
But you don't have anything else, so you are trying to fit there.
- And "Scared to leave and left to be scared",
Like, nobody cares about you, man.
You have to take your life into your own hands.
You have to overcome the fear of leaving, of making a change.
That's why are you scared to leave, and because nobody cares about you,
that's why you are left to be scared. - Yeah, and one more thing.
"Left to be scared. Broken, you said it."
It's like, when you feel you don't belong somewhere,
the people will sometimes tell you that
"You are so arrogant," you know, "What's wrong with you?"
"Why you're not having fun?"
- That's a little bit of an inside joke, we can't talk about it right now,
but maybe in the future. - It's not that like you are arrogant,
or something like that. You just feel you belong somewhere else.
And there is nothing wrong about it, you know.
It's absolutely normal and usual.
Those people, who are telling you these things
just have you under their control.
And then there is the chorus: "I can't stand to be on my knees",
That's exactly the feeling you get after those conversations
with those people, with yourself...
"I can't stand to be on my knees, I can't stand the pain, the anger inside of me.
Can't stand lying to myself, I want to be me and nobody else."
- Yeah.
- And I think this is pretty straightforward.
- I came up with a perfect metaphor for the meaning of this song.
This.
Don't be on your knees, stand up
- rise above...
- Rise above and shine. - Rise above and shine, you know.
This is the highest place in our location at the moment.
- Rafael hates heights.
- Yeah, this is exactly what I hate.
But you know, this song is about overcoming yourself, right?
About standing up. So yeah, I fucking hate heights, but...
- We are here. - Yeah, exactly.
- We are still here. - It's beautiful.
This is where we came from.
This is not where we're gonna end up.
This country has some incredible sights, incredible people, incredible
places in it. I love it.
- I'm not afraid when I'm looking around like this,
you know, or above. But when I look down...
Yeah, that's the problem.
- So yeah, keep your head up. - Exactly.
- Because if you're looking down
that's where you're gonna go. Aaron Sorkin said that.
Alright guys, that's a wrap on our vlog.
Now let's go celebrate your birthday, man.
- We've got this garden here with strawberries,
beautiful day, and there is a rabbit.
