10 Weird Things Your Body Could Do.
Number 10.
When you get hungry and finally get to devour a plate of food, you may be thinking that
you're doing your stomach a favor.
But, did you know that when you eat you're actually feeding your brain as well?
The brain has a huge job to do for such a small organ and because of how complex it
is, it requires a lot of nutrients.
When you take in calories throughout the day, the brain needs 20% of what has been consumed.
So the next time someone heckles you for taking seconds, you can tell them you're feeding
your brain.
Number 9.
Have you ever noticed a particular smell when you visit your grandparents house or go to
a retirement facility?
Well this is an actual thing!
There's a pretty obvious smell when a person has just been born, and then many people deal
with a different kind of body odor when they enter puberty.
Needless to say, the scent of people changes as they age.
However, rather than continuing to smell worse, the smell of an older person is actually quite
pleasant.
If you know someone older who doesn't smell so good, it may just be linked to their perfume
or showering habits.
Number 8.
Although Exploding Head Syndrome is a rare condition, it's still pretty bizarre that
the body can do something this extreme.
Exploding head syndrome or EHS is a condition where someone may hear an imagined loud noise
such as gunshots, explosions, or crystals shattering.
Sometimes it only happens once in a person's life, but there have been cases where it is
reoccurring.
There is no cure for the condition and it has been classified as a sleep-related disorder.
This is similar to the way you may have experienced being jolted awake by falling or hearing a
loud noise in a dream.
It is also related to sleep paralysis.
Number 7.
While most people assume that you stop growing after you've hit puberty, there are actually
a few body parts that continue to change as you age.
It doesn't happen to everyone, but some people experience foot growth once they enter old
age.
When people get older, some may experience their feet becoming longer and wider because
the tendons and ligaments begin to lose elasticity.
This can cause the toes to spread out.
The arch of the foot can also flatten.
Some people can expect to go up at least a shoe size when they reach their 70's and 80's.
Number 6.
Have you ever heard someone claim that they can tell when it's going to rain when their
back, toe, or other body parts act up?
Turns out, there may actually be some truth behind it!
Whenever it rains or snows, the air pressure drops and this change can cause your joints
to swell.
Most people won't notice the small difference, but for someone who already suffers from joint
pain or has broken a bone, they may feel a painful or tingling sensation due to the drop
in pressure.
Turns out aching joints might be able to predict the weather better than forecasters.
Unless the weather forecaster has joint problems.
Number 5.
Chances are you've had that awkward moment where one of your eyes begins to flutter and
then it turns into a full-on twitch.
No amount of rubbing or blinking can make it stop and you start to feel like a crazy
person.
While it may seem harmless enough, there are a few things that can be causing this.
Eye twitching can be brought on by a number of things.
It can stem from stress, lack of sleep, or it can be a sign of a vision-related problem.
Twitching of the eye can also be caused by caffeine, eye strain, and allergies.
And then there is the scarier possibility of having microscopic mites in your eyelashes
that can cause the eyes to twitch and itch.
Number 4.
Teeth are pretty fascinating.
You start with none when you're born, then you grow some.
Next, they all fall out and you grow some more.
Just when you thought it was over, some people need braces to get their teeth aligned and
others grow in wisdom teeth that need to be removed!
Unfortunately, the changes in the mouth don't stop once you hit old age.
As you grow old, your teeth will begin to shift once again, this is because you begin
to suffer from bone loss and that includes the bones behind the gums.
This is probably a huge annoyance for people who have spent years in their youth trying
to get perfect teeth through multiple dentist trips, retainers, and braces.
Number 3.
Everyone knows about the different ways a tongue can sense the flavor of food.
There are different sensory areas on the tongue that specialize in detecting food that is
sour, bitter, sweet, and salty.
Did you know that temperature can also alter the way something tastes?
This is because there are certain taste bud receptors that are sensitive to temperature.
This may be why you might enjoy a cold beer whereas a warm one might make you gag.
Number 2.
Did you know that your internal organs can move?
Not to say that you can suddenly gain control of your stomach and make it move around on
its own, but your insides have the ability to shift
due to external movement.
You know that strange feeling when riding a roller coaster or driving down a hill in
a fast car?
What you're feeling is more than just nerves and excitement.
That tingling sensation that can sometimes make you vomit comes from your insides shifting
inside you.
The good news is that although it sounds and feels uncomfortable, it's completely harmless.
Number 1.
For many, the ringing of the alarm clock in the morning can be an unpleasant sound to
wake up to.
Accompanied by this unpleasant sound is the highly inconvenient phenomenon grown men,
little boys, and even males in utero all experience: nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT), also known
as "morning wood."
NPT is associated with REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is the last stage of a sleep
cycle.
During the day, your brain releases a chemical called noradrenaline, a hormone that hinders
erections.
One idea is that during REM sleep, noradrenergic cells (neurons that release the noradrenaline)
are switched off.
This makes those nighttime boners more likely to pop up.
