Upgrading your bumpers from the factory plastic is always a good way to get some extra protection
for your Jeep whether you're on the road or you're off-road.
This RS-6 full-length bumper by DV8 is a simple and very affordable way to get that protection
while also getting a more aggressive look and adding some recovery points.
Both positives compared to the stock bumper.
This is a stand-alone bumper and will not come with an option for a heavy duty tire
carrier, so if you plan on running larger tires in the future, I would keep that in
mind when shopping for bumpers.
However, this is pretty low profile so it will pair very nicely with a tub mounted tire
carrier, so you're not limited there.
Install is completely bolt-on with no modification needed, so it gets a one out of three wrenches
on the difficulty meter from me, and I'll tell you more about that in just a moment.
This bumper is pretty simple at face value, yet it will give your JK an aggressive look
like I said, and it will match with really any heavy duty front bumper that you pair
it with.
This is a full-width bumper so it really hugs all the tailgate's curves and does a good
job at fitting in the space where the stock bumper was taking up.
This means you won't really see anything underneath that tailgate bodyline.
The corners and the angles are sleeker than other heavy duty bumpers that I've seen on
our site which can be boxier, so that will make for better departure angles off-road.
The bumper itself is made of quarter inch and three-sixteenth-inch cold rolled steel
and it comes coated in a black powder coat finish to prevent any rust or corrosion on
the steel itself.
The powder coat will also match with really any other upgrades that you have on your JK
already since it's pretty standard for armor.
What's also pretty standard are the recovery points on this bumper.
This has two welded D-ring mounts for recovery and it also comes with the D-ring so you don't
have to go out and buy any additional hardware.
Also, this has a high clearance hitch made for recovery, and it's rated as a class three
hitch, unlike other integrated hitch options that we offer on different bumpers that are
not tow rated.
In my opinion, this is very affordable for being an armored stand-alone heavy duty rear
bumper.
This currently sits at the $400 price point and that's pretty low compared to other steel
full-length options.
If $400 is still a little too high, we do have some less expensive options.
However, they will be designed a little bit differently with a little less protection
or they'll have tubing on the ends instead of steel plates.
And most of the other lower priced options hitches will not include a class three hitch
or they just won't be tow rated at all.
Now, on the other end of the spectrum, if you were looking for more options out of a
rear bumper like a tire carrier, reverse lights, different designs or even a bumper that's
compatible with the factory tow hitch, those prices can range anywhere from $500 all the
way up to a little over $1,000.
Not to mention, this has a limited lifetime warranty, adding more value out of that $400
overall.
I think this is definitely good for the price, and if you don't need all the bells and whistles,
this is a great option to take a look at.
Install like I mentioned is completely bolt-on.
You won't need to do any modification to get this thing on and it should only take you
about two hours or so to get your old bumper off and this one bolted up.
Now I'll pass it over to the installers to show you how it's done.
We're gonna begin by removal of the stock rear bumper.
Very simple, it's a few bolts on the side of the frame and it slides right off.
The help of a friend is nice, but this isn't too difficult, you can do it by yourself.
We begin by removing these two bolts right here, right behind the bumper.
And do the same for the other side.
To begin the installation of our DV8 rear bumper, we're gonna begin by sliding in the
Nutsert plates into the rear frame rails just to give us a stronger bolting surface for
our new heavy duty bumper.
These are our weld nut plates, you can go ahead and take this and slide it into the
frame rail.
You're gonna make sure that the flat side is facing the outer frame rail, this way the
bolts can thread into it and secure your bumper tightly.
You'll repeat the same process for the opposite side.
With the help of a friend, you wanna go ahead and lift the bumper into place and insert
a couple of bolts just to get it hanging on there.
Next, we can go ahead and install the factory hardware back into these two holes here.
This will help align your bumper.
You wanna go ahead and repeat for both sides.
Next, we're gonna install the four bolts underneath to the center the frame rail.
This gives your bumper a little more security especially if you ever use your trailer hitch.
And you're gonna repeat this for all four bolts.
Make sure you put your washer on the back.
Now you wanna go ahead and line your bumper up and start tightening all your bolts.
Make sure that everything is nice and secure.
This is a good strong bumper.
If you gotta tow anything, you don't want your bumper falling off.
We use a couple different size sockets here.
For the hardware that came with the kit, you're gonna be using an 18-millimeter socket and
a 19-millimeter wrench.
For your factory hardware, it's gonna be a 17-millimeter socket.
We're using an impact gun, you can do this with a ratchet.
Impact gun does make things a lot easier.
We'll start here in the side plates tightening up your bolts.
You go ahead and repeat for both sides.
So if you're looking for a simple and affordable way to upgrade from your stock rear bumper,
this RS-6 full-length bumper by DV8 is a great option for you and your JK.
