Youtube daily Aug 3 2017

In this week's video breakdown, we're going to talk about a video where I show how to

deal with people you're talking to that board or a loom or disinterested what do

they say they say so the worst things in the world they say you can love me or

hate me but don't ignore me right or what's the worst thing indifference is

the worst thing you can possibly react with because it is because it shows like

even you can make somebody mad it shows they care you're creating an emotional

reaction and people are only emotionally responsive to people that they feel like

have the same or highest higher social diagram then in case you're not going to

make it to the end of the video I want to jump in here real quick now this is a

very advanced breakdown of nuanced interaction if you're just getting

started and you want to learn the basic skills social nuances things that will

enable you to see what's going on around you socially to feel comfortable around

public you can touch a click up here in the right-hand corner and download my

free social invincibility checklist that'll go through five things that will

get you where you need to be especially something that's something that I

believe very strong and like a bomb is like your you look like terrified shirt

you're like dude can I no reaction but someone who's higher status or equal

status like that shirts not fitting on you you think about that all day because

they're showing you they're telling you with a sub communitive way they not only

don't agree or disagree that they just don't care so like an example the video

I'll play it back right now it overlooks ringing Street and it's getting so busy

you can see it's not that she likes theater doesn't like it she just doesn't

care at all that's the worst you can possibly do it means that you're kind of

meaningless to them so in what clip instance do you feel that you typically

respond aloof ly to guys is that word loosely but you relieve the guys are

people in general like what kind of conversations what kind of approaches

what kind of interactions to you have you found yourself responding in the

loop way well I just don't want anything to do with the guy I don't even want to

give you a positive or a negative because like your sink you will respond

to that mm I don't want to give you anything I

can offer you a bone all so that's like a very like harshest way that you would

possibly interact is just kind of aloof and ignore yeah yeah it's pretty hard so

I know let's decide what that communicated is communicating that she

doesn't even want to put forth the energy or give you a chance to review a

negative response so she's not going to give you anything

it's just icing you out it's cold water yeah like okay I may pop up and try to

start saying something and you're like okay I'm going to like try to be nice to

you if you just keep on then finally it's like I'm done yeah exactly I am

responding right now I wonder though so when you're trying to decide the kind of

guys that you want to talk to you you're interested in carrying a conversation

with your kind of assessing them on a whole bunch of things when they come up

so you can see in that first video I'm coming up and it doesn't matter the

words I'm saying I think the second video use the exact same words but all

my sub communication is so weak what I'm communicating to her is that I truly

don't value myself as high as her I feel like she's higher value than me and it's

being expressed in every piece of my communication I'm not making strong I

tanked up with her my tonality is weak I can you know the supplicated value I

can't give anything you don't like so you have to like me my body language I'm

not even oriented to her because I'm scared of that listen let me tell you a

harsh truth the Hollywood movies were the nerd who continues buying roses and

getting beat up by the bully continues doing it doesn't get the girl that

doesn't happen you need to get confident in who you are you don't need to become

that bully or the high school quarterback no not by any stretch of

imagination but you need a rock-solid confidence in who you are and that's

cool and be the cooler or the cool whatever you are the confident guy and

when you feel that way the communication you express and we talk I think about

this all the time actually I talked about different sub community

of ways the expressive eye contact so now the body orientation all the

different thing but I truly believe that there's other things that we can't

specifically articulate like the energy or whatever it is that's being projected

that when you are confident a girl can just sense that yeah maybe if I go up

and I don't even have the best turnout if I contact but I'm super confident

I bet she's going to feel that of course you want to use all these things to your

advantage but that's just something that you need to get to that point so realize

this the same dude that goes up to talk to you that approaches it in a four way

is it very confident does it use the things that we know work right finality

eye contact body language body rotation you're going to get a different response

so next time you go up and maybe get a neighbor spot don't be bummed up don't

play the girl it's you you're not presenting yourself in the right light

yeah do you think about that I was just sitting here kind of thinking about if

there was a really attractive guy in the bar making out to me and he was like

yeah whoa he's so super good-looking and he comes up he's like hi I'm your night

going that would be the biggest letdown and Creole driver would work with models

yeah guys who were tall work I said incredible job a bunch of dough the guy

said the girls from across the bar like oh I got I hope will come up to me and

he goes up and he approaches weep gone right but then even times we're about

pop up out of nowhere and you just make you feel so good could use that that

confidence President you makes you look comfortable you're like I don't know

what it is about this guy he's not my type I'm sure I once dated a person

that's not their type that's because of the way they feel and how they present

themselves and so I would encourage people if you okay what if you see the

girl that you find attractive talking about that model guy

don't let it save you because you don't know how that conversation is going

right you go be the confident person not that's something that even even I as a

guy know is so hard because intuitively man you think she's with some

six-foot-four yoke dude that there's no chance but that I'm six foot four I've

had guys who are super on like a clubs I having a bad night and feeling terrible

I'm not talking that much and I made around I'm talking some growth I have a

dude who are not Brad Pitt come up and totally tear the attention off me it

happened and it's not because these dudes were taller stronger any of these

attributes that guys are like I need this to get the attention it's not as

much about that so having an understanding that I understand I

understand it's hard to believe it seems so natural like we see big strong dudes

at these girls it's not as important as you think so importantly like along with

what she said even when you see that don't let that bum you out and if you

don't have those common attributes that are commonly viewed as things that guys

need they're not what you eat you need confidence in whatever you are he's an

example I was talking about buddy Addison where summers and breakfast or

morning Vegas we're like okay what if you are of far lower intelligence and

the average guy maybe your short height maybe it maybe sure all these different

things that society is unique and you paint curbs for a living will become the

best curve painter you possibly can be you don't need a Granik you study the

best curve bidders how will you people get promoted what are they really good

at and become so good that eventually people are like out we're going to bring

people around to see this guy as a curve Pater he's the best one you're going to

learn from him we're at is a book about where I put a huge ovide about now when

you go talk about guarantee it may sound funny but if I'm painting curbs and I'm

really into it I do a great job people come around to see me paint curves that

I'm telling a girl about that that I need them better going to be drawn into

it they're going to be like kill this guy's really into it I didn't think

curve a is cool but now okay I never girls actually say that like guys have

ridiculously like not normal professions that make no dough that most people say

is just ridiculous but the guys will tell it in a way does the girl for like

I think it's actually kind of cool like wait are you serious

and like yeah so he could be done yeah I dated guy I've actually broken up with

guys who have had professions that I thought were real

awesome but they they presented it was what really turned me off mmm

because they presented it in a way where they almost downplayed it and to me as a

confident woman I was like I want a guy who like you're saying maybe he doesn't

make the most money here he's not the most successful in other people's eyes

but if he owns it then I'm all about it mmm and I just find the time is like

we're you know all I do this but oh it's no big deal

like oh wow and she's and she's using it this is not an example of like where you

should be yes I work on Wall Street at a meeting last Friday in New York you're

not breaking about it but you can tell when someone's really proud about what

they do but the curve painter for instance you can tell it doesn't matter

what it is so she think even if you have an incredible job we make a ton of dough

all these things once again people say and you're not really proud of it and

you're like oh I should be doing this like maybe your passion something else

goal don't want that like maybe you're a kindergarten teacher or a pea ball coach

torsional kids and t-ball team it sort of be like oh yeah I'll just go out

there and you know watch the kids hit a ball and says you're like I'm making an

impact on your kid's life and it's so interesting and I get them at such a

young age and it's something I'm incredibly passionate about and I've

made an impact and all these kids like that is so attractive as being like I'm

a kindergartener and those kids are just your animal your fridge my little kid

zookeeper and like you I know here you cynically what do we think about them

selling this is your right man you got one shot and you're a dwarf in your mind

you're a glorified paper versus or if I say you are going to dog count and

literally all you do all day is clean about dog counts like dirty granny good

job that's not there's nothing glamorous about it but if you go in there and

you're like I'm helping dogs I help recalling them something as insanely

passionate about giving these new dogs chances and like whoa that is so awesome

it just is not the way you phrase your so much and I think it's two things in

framing I think number one you do want to be as closely aligned to your passion

and what you spend your time doing and number two put a little spin on it

whether you're not - let's say you're in the middle let's say you work a job here

to finance your cantata for one of the big five you travel a lot you like that

you had a big expense accounts fun the weekend you can have some fun you don't

like the way that you have to leave and travel every week what not put a spin on

it sounds nice that's something to have complete control over you have to bring

up the downside somebody wants to hear that give a little energy to bring a

little life behind and I do think if you possibly can you want to do something

that you are bipasha but I realized not everybody you know maybe you're

passionate baseball player but you're just not athletic enough to play in the

big leagues well you can't do that but find something that you are a little bit

better at than everything else there's a book called it's not to like don't

follow your passion that's like I don't remember what it's called but it

basically talks about that it talks about how when you find something that

you're good even if you're not super passionate about it five ten years down

the road people become passionate because they are good and they develop

these skill sets that are very unique and better than other people

so find something you're younger find something that you are a little bit

better if you don't love it maybe you're great with Excel spreadsheets and pivot

tables passion boat um just just just get into it and then learn maybe you're

going to comps is now the new version of cells that are coming out or teaching

new formulas new ways you can stress it any plugins you can do and get into it

maybe certain speeches about the new stuff work so you meet the people at

Microsoft you're involved this whole world I excel t-shirt for just gifted

but you can buy one yeah home made lots of credit

Northup button there's um so okay so that's a gutsy tale not in the video but

also let's say you are a job where it's really not your passion your painting

curves you hate it and if somebody asks you about it maybe you say you know what

I paint curves really it's not my mother said anything I do but when I'm not

working I'm volunteering at this dog kennel and like how's that going for you

you know where you're like maybe one day I'll be in a position where I can do

that or you can spin it but something in your life your passion that's actually

classic like in interview theory and things like that they say we talk about

like your life and what you do if you don't like your jobs but one sentence on

that they talk over you but my real passion is playing a band and every

Saturday we get together we do this in this hey that's a good idea yeah so in

the video when I'm kind of slouching and all that and then all of a sudden I can

see she's really aloof and not like listening or I'm saying the worst in my

mind the worst feeling in the world is when you see someone would rather not be

in that conversation with you me is the communication coach like that is don't

works like that cannot happen so what did I do immediately

why did three things go out and probably more than that the three things that are

easy to articulate so I brought my energy up immediately so I was like yeah

and the amenities and this and this and I was like so you you need to learn to

modulate your own internal energy because people match the energy that

you're feeling and emitting so all of a sudden my energy went from like a - to

like a nine talking about the pool if someone breaks glass they drain the pool

that's going to impact me my energy jump I Square cure I orient my shoulders

because you can feel that we square someone versus like this the body

language shows and I oriented more towards you can feel that pressure and I

would say okay I've done this before in social either conversations or even just

walking into places if you in your body make yourself feel more confidently

maybe I'm so nervous door to the bar but if I roll my shoulders

back I almost gained this confidence just because my body has that afib

meaning so in a conversation where I feel I can feel myself kind of being

nervous I immediately open up and it's like your brain on the street now

there's both pros and cons to switching over to a camera that records at 4k and

60 frames a second amazing quality you can zoom in and out no problem but it

burns through memory cards like no others unfortunately this is the end of

the video because the camera shut off on its own which she was rapping with is

the idea that your physical movements the way you stand the way your emotion

to express in your face actually changes the film's physiology of the way you

feel there is a study where people had to put on these fake smiles or even put

a pencil between their teeth which makes you kind of put off a fake smile and

even if it was completely fake it would make people feel better 60 seconds from

then because you kind of faked the motion until you felt the emotions so

very important to understand so here I'm going to leave you at the end with this

end card if you want to download my free tonality checklist it'll teach you how

to speak with the very strong competent voice you know your delivery is very

important the way that you speak has a lot to do with the way people perceive

you you can touch a click right here you can check out another video right here

or you could subscribe right here I'll talk to you next week

Flat Zombies Bridge - Gameplay - Duration: 8:07.

Screwed, Screwed!

Not yet, we saved them, we saved it.

Hey guys, Camo Soldier here and today we're going to be playing this game

called "Flat Zombies: Bridge, Version 1.0.3."

It's not a new game, it's kinda old and there's already another game called "Flat Zombies: Cleanup & Defense"

which is also on the Play Store and App Store, so as this game I believe.

And so we're going to get right into it, I already checked the settings and everything else is not really anything ...

of much interest.

Let me just press how to play and show you guys how this works.

"Do not let the zombies cross the red line and enter the survivors area."

"Use your weapon to kill zombies. Swipe on screen to aim and shoot!"

Receive scores when you...when hit to different parts of body zombie.

"In head - 10"

"In body - 5"

And in the legs - 2

And I realize the English is not the best, I forgot to say I believe this is a Russian Developer

I did not exactly

check for that.

But I believe it's a Russian Developer on this game so...

the English is not going to be optimal but hey it's fine enough, at least we can still read it.

So let's go on and start playing this game.

Alright that was quick, it was instant.

Aiming kinda hard.

Damnit.

Well that was quick.

Alright let's try this again.

Jesus Christ my aim sucks.

We're going to try this pistol one last time and see how it goes.

We might switch to another weapon in next round.

God dammit.

I was close at least.

Alright let's do something bigger, let's get this Assault Rifle right here.

There we go.

Yeah we're doing well with this weapon at least.

Maybe the pistol is just not good in general.

Maybe I'm just aiming for heads too much.

Yeah the body is not...worth it.

Yeah this Assault Rifle is doing really well.

Ok now we got a low chance.

Thank god but we're not going to make it.

Well we tried.

Let's try that again.

My game...I mean my aim sucks in this game seriously.

I'm not gonna lie, my aim actually sucks.

I'm making a...

I might make a fricken series on this if the other games actually good.

Better than this.

Screwed, Screwed!

Wait!

Now we're screwed.

Alright let's try a shotgun, I heard the shotgun was powerful.

Oh yeah, this thing is powerful.

This thing will definitely do the job.

Alright some of the bullets are not going direct, I guess it's a buckshot.

Alright this shotgun with it's buckshot is really not going to work with me.

I realize the score also changed drastically so.

Cmon we can do this.

Ah god, we're screwed.

Maybe not!

Oh, we saved it there.

Now we're not going to save it!

Damnit.

Well I tried.

One last round and then we're done for this video.

Let's use the Assault Rifle for the sake of it.

I like the physics in this game I think this game uses Unity if I'm correct.

Nice physics for it.

Oh wow I missed every shot for that one.

I'm gonna be honest, my aim sucks for this.

It really does.

Cuz this is the first time

I'm ever playing a game

like

like this on a phone.

Cause I play games like this but not on a phone.

Screwed. Screwed.

Not yet, we saved them, we saved it.

Might not make it now.

Unless I can catch this, these two!

And we're screwed.

Well we tried.

Well thanks for watching the video guys and if you liked it then give it that thumbs up man

If you didn't, just stay tuned for more videos.

And make sure you go on and hit that subscribe if you want to see more content man, I'm telling you the content gets better and better.

I know I'm a...I know my channel is based on the military and stuff but we don't have to always do that right?

I mean we're playing a zombie game it's kinda military anyway.

But anyway it's get better with the content so just stay tuned for more videos and make sure you subscribe

and if you want to get notified of every video after you subscribe, make sure you press the bell notification next to it.

So yeah, this is Camo Soldier and I will see you next time on that battlefield.

Liverpool FC Transfer News & Rumour Roundup - Van Dijk, Coutinho, Mbappe & 2 loanees - Duration: 5:50.

Liverpool FC Transfer News & Rumour Roundup - Van Dijk, Coutinho, Mbappe & 2 loanees

We round up Thursday's transfer news affecting Liverpool, as we look for a conclusion to several summer-defining stories.

The Reds missed out on a second pre-season trophy on Wednesday night, with their penalty shootout defeat to Atletico Madrid robbing them of the world-famous Audi Cup!.

Jurgen Klopp's side now have just one match remaining this summer, against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, but interest is just as great when it comes to off-field matters. Here's what has been reported in the transfer world on Thursday.

Pellegrino Updates the Van Dijk Situation.

The Virgil van Dijk saga has seemingly lasted forever, and each day the story moves forward at a snail's pace.

On Thursday, Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino spoke about the current situation, saying little has changed on the matter: the Saints' captain and star centre-back continues to train alone, and they aren't looking to sell.

"I would like to bring the boy and to persuade him that he's important for us and the club will not sell him," he said.

"We are expecting the best for everyone, even for Virgil, but he doesn't want to be part of the team. This is the reason he is aside from the team.

"We continue in the same way. The situation is the same. I can't say no more, because the situation is the boy is aside of the team because he doesn't want to play for us.". 'Adios Neymar, Hola Coutinho'.

You have to hand it to the Spanish press—they will forever churn out nonsense. With Neymar's inexplicably expensive move to Paris Saint-Germain getting closer, talk of his replacement is ongoing.

On Thursday, old reliable Mundo Deportivo ran with the headline, 'Adios Neymar, Hola Coutinho', as they remain convinced Philippe Coutinho will be a Barcelona player imminently.

Time and time again, Klopp has played down these reports, though, and it would be a real shock now if the Brazilian moved to Camp Nou this summer. Klopp 'In Regular Contact' With Mbappe.

With Neymar heading to Paris, his new rivals, Monaco, are struggling to hold on to their current attacking star, Kylian Mbappe.

According to French publication L'Equipe, the 18-year-old is pushing to leave the Ligue 1 hopefuls this summer, and is not short of top-level suitors.

Among the likes of Real Madrid, Man City, Barcelona and PSG themselves, Liverpool are named as a potential destination for Mbappe, who made his France debut earlier this year.

They claim Klopp has been "in regular contact" with the youngster, having not ruled out the possibility of a shock signing later this month.

It would be a bold move by the Reds, and a highly unlikely one, but it certainly highlights their ambition in the market. Reds CEO Reiterates Transfer Operation.

Two months into his new role, Liverpool CEO Peter Moore has been given a taste of what to expect from the ravenous Reds support.

With the club so far failing in their efforts to sign Van Dijk, for example, has led to misplaced criticism of the club's hierarchy.

And Moore, taking to Twitter on Thursday, stressed that his role does not include an involvement in transfer activity.

"Please allow me to provide a respectful reminder that managing activities such as player transfers is not amongst my CEO responsibilities," he told his 87,000 followers.

"Our sporting director and manager and their teams manage that side of the club and I am extremely confident in their abilities to do so. Reds Loanees Highlight Long-Term Plans.

Shamal George and Taiwo Awoniyi became Liverpool's two latest departing loanees this week, joining Carlisle United and Mouscron respectively.

And speaking on their moves to League Two and the Belgian First Division, the youthful duo spoke of their ambitions of playing for the Reds in the future.

"I do feel like I've got things to prove so I want to prove myself as much as I can, both to Liverpool and Carlisle United," George explained.

Meanwhile, Awoniyi stressed that "my ultimate dream is to be able to play with Liverpool one day. Their performances on loan this season will likely determine whether their long-term futures remain on Merseyside, or elsewhere.

Liverpool's Danny Ward looking to build on Atletico Madrid display after return to fitness - Duration: 3:18.

Liverpool's Danny Ward looking to build on Atletico Madrid display after return to fitness

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward produced a star display in Wednesday's Audi Cup clash with Atletico Madrid, after a struggle for fitness.

Ward made his first appearance of pre-season in the 'final' of the tournament at the Allianz Arena, and was in fine form between the sticks.

Particularly impressive was the Wales international's reflex save to deny Angel Correa from point-blank range, turning the ball onto the bar, but Keidi Bare headed home the rebound.

Clearly undermined by a brittle defence ahead of him, Ward's display in Munich was faultless, and presents a convincing argument as he battles for a starting role under Jurgen Klopp.

Assessing his recovery from a niggling back injury, and his night at the Allianz, Ward said he was "happy to finally be out there.

"I think it went quite well," he told LiverpoolFC. com, having made his first outing for the Reds since their 3-1 loss away to Swansea City in 2016.

"I've had a couple of knocks here and there through pre-season which has been frustrating, but I'm happy to finally be out there. "They were just little knocks, ones that are really annoying.

"But at this part of the season it's all about preparation and making sure you're right so it was enjoyable.

Having spent last season away on loan with Huddersfield Town, Ward could have returned this summer to find himself out of favour.

But with Klopp insisting Ward, Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius will all be fighting for the gloves in 2017/18, he certainly has a role to play.

And having travelled with the squad for their pre-season tours of Hong Kong and Germany, Ward has seemingly settled back in, both on and off the pitch.

"Here and Hong Kong have been massive for us fitness-wise and mentally as well," he continued. "The boys being around each other 24/7 is massive for team spirit, so I think we've all benefited from it.

"It's been positive on both trips and hopefully we can take that on now. Klopp's current first-choice goalkeeper will likely start in Saturday's final pre-season clash with Athletic Bilbao in Dublin.

Whether that will be Ward is questionable, with Mignolet and Karius both in more favourable positions at this stage. But back fit and shining against Atletico, the 24-year-old certainly has a case.

What Missions Have Been Cancelled? The Alternative History of Space Exploration - Duration: 11:41.

People love to imagine alternative history, what could have happened if a certain battle

or political event went the other way.

Would the Nazis have won World War II?

Would there been a nuclear war over the Cuban Missile Crisis?

It's a fascinating concept, and I really enjoy this kind of speculation.

In fact, there's a great channel you should check out if you haven't already called

Alternate History Hub.

Lots of great space related alternate history as well as other topics.

Anyway, because I've been doing space journalism for so long, I've seen the creation and

then cancellation of many space-related projects and missions.

Some make sense, there was too much technological risk, the project was over budget, while others

seem a little short sighted.

In this episode, I wanted to take a look back at some projects and missions that were developed

to various stages and then cancelled.

What science could we have gotten from the mission?

What did we ultimately get?

It's the alternative history of astronomy and space exploration.

I'm going to present the three missions that I was most excited about, and the saddest

to lose.

If you listen to Astronomy Cast, you know, that podcast about space and astronomy that

I've been doing for 10 years with the astronomer Dr. Pamela Gay, where we cover topics in space

and astronomy, you'll know that my greatest sadness is the loss of the Terrestrial Planet

Finder.

The Kepler Space Telescope, which has already given us a treasure trove of planetary discoveries

was actually supposed to be the first part of a trilogy of space-based planetary observatories.

The second spacecraft in the series was called the Space Interferometry Mission, or SIM.

Unlike Kepler, which uses a single mirror, SIM was going to test the idea of interferometry,

where you combine the light from multiple mirrors into a single observation.

This idea is used successfully here on Earth, but it had never been tried in space (and

still hasn't).

You would think that by having two mirrors, your telescope would act like the combined

surface area of both.

But what actually happens is you get a resolution equal to the separation of the mirrors.

There are downsides, you can only see brighter objects, but the boost in resolution is very

useful.

In fact, this is why people talk about the powerful kinds of telescopes that could be

built if you put equal telescopes on opposite sides of the Solar System, for example.

It's as if you had a telescope with the resolution of the size of the Solar System.

Once launched, SIM would be the most powerful extrasolar planet ever launched, and it would

have have been capable of turning up Earth-sized worlds orbiting nearby Sun-like stars in the

habitable zone.

In other words, it would have found Earth 2.0.

But the third part of the trilogy is the one I miss the most: The Terrestrial Planet Finder,

cancelled in 2011.

This mission would have been built on the success of SIM to fly a formation of space

telescopes to act as a single large telescope.

It's job would be to help us discover planets, and more importantly, help us find out if

they have life on them.

The instrument would have used a coronagraph to block the light from stars to see the fainter

planets orbiting them in infrared light.

With hundreds of times the observing power of Hubble, the TPF would be able to measure

the composition of exoplanet atmospheres.

Find an atmosphere with ozone and it's a clear indication there's life present.

And if it could detect the air pollution from an advanced civilization, then we'd know

we're not alone in the Universe.

Although I'm sad to lose SIM and the Terrestrial Planet Finder, there's hope.

Astronomers are planning and building several new ground and space-based telescopes that

will have the same capability or even greater.

And if it ever gets built, the LUVOIR mission will put a 16-meter telescope into space.

That will change everything.

We'll talk more about the upcoming super telescopes in future episodes.

Now, it's time to go to Europa and look for life.

The search for life in the Solar System is all about the search for water.

That's because wherever we find liquid water here on Earth, we find life.

Is that true for other places than Earth?

We don't know.

One of the great discoveries from NASA's Voyager program was realization that three

of Jupiter's large moons: Europa, Ganymede and Callisto had a huge amount of liquid water,

kept warm by tidal interactions with Jupiter, and covered by a thick icy shell.

This sounded like the perfect place to go searching for life.

In 2004, Northrop Grumman began the development of a spacecraft with a range of revolutionary

capabilities called the Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter, or JIMO.

Instead of a traditional chemical engine, this spacecraft would be equipped with 8 highly

efficient ion engines powered by a small nuclear fission reactor.

The reactor would have generated thousands of times the electricity of other spacecraft

power plants, which would power the engines.

With this configuration, JIMO would be capable of visiting each of Jupiter's icy moons.

Not just flybys, but it would be capable of going into orbit, examining each moon for

several months, and even deploying a lander for Europa.

If the mission had gone ahead, there would have been three separate launches in 2015

to low Earth orbit: two booster transfer stages, and then the actual probe.

The transfer stages would have kicked JIMO into the trajectory to reach Jupiter by 2021.

It would have arrived first at Callisto, studied it for three months, then switched to Ganymede

for three months, and finally arrived at Europa where it would have lived out its final days,

studying this intriguing world until 2025.

During this period, NASA was tasked with the Constellation Program, which shifted budgets

to human space exploration, and canceled several ambitious projects like JIMO.

This cancellation is even more sad now that we know there are active geysers on Europa,

and the food for bacterial life has been detected at Enceladus.

It would be the perfect time to have an enormous, nuclear powered mega probe orbiting the Jovian

System.

ESA and NASA partnered up with something called the Europa Jupiter System Mission, but this

was cancelled in 2011, and now ESA is building their own probe called the Jupiter Icy Moon

Explorer mission, or JUICE.

And NASA is working on its own mission called the Europa Clipper, which will visit the moon

in the 2020s.

Unfortunately, the lander portion of the mission was canceled earlier this year, so it'll

just be an orbiter.

It's better than nothing, though.

I've talked about two groups of missions that were canceled, and there's one more

to go.

But before I get to it, I'd like to thank Björn Poppe, David Gell, and the rest of

our 764 patrons for their generous support.

If you love what we're doing and want to get in on the action, head over to patreon.com/universetoday

Now I'm going to cross the ocean to Europe, and look at a cancelled program from the European

Space Agency: the Hermes spaceplane.

This was originally proposed in 1975 as an alternative to the much larger NASA space

shuttle.

Hermes would have only been capable of carrying 3 astronauts to orbit, but only a few tonnes

of cargo.

Which in retrospect was a pretty good idea, and is the direction NASA went after cancelling

the space shuttle.

The project officially began in 1985, investigating a 6-person spaceplane.

After the Challenger disaster, ESA wanted to give astronauts a chance to escape a disaster,

so it was decided it should have 3 ejection seats instead.

Hermes spaceplanes would have been carried to space atop Europe's new Ariane rockets,

and would be capable of 30 successive re-entries before they needed to be overhauled.

Each Hermes would have been capable of keeping a crew of 3 astronauts alive for 40 days,

with extended missions lasting 90 days.

It would have been capable of docking with various space stations, under human control

or autonomously.

Hermes was ultimately canceled in 1992, as ESA transferred its efforts into supporting

the International Space Station, and relying on the space shuttle to carry its astronauts

to orbit.

Although they never gained the ability to send humans to space, ESA is still pursuing

the space plane and lifting body concept.

As part of their Future Launchers Preparatory Program, ESA has been continuing to investigate

space planes.

In 2015, they launched the Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle, which was the first time a lifting

body ever made a re-entry from orbital velocity.

It had no wings, but flaps that could control its attitude.

It final landing was with parachutes in the Pacific Ocean.

For its next test, the IXV will try a runway landing.

If this works out, I'm sure we'll see more spacecraft based on this lifting body

concept as a way to return cargo and people from orbit, and even other worlds.

As I was working on this episode, I considered many more cancelled missions.

Let's take a moment to remember the X-33 which was an attempt to build a single stage

to orbit spacecraft.

The Constellation Program, which would have had humans set foot on the Moon again.

The Pluto Kuiper Express, which would have sent a probe to Pluto and Charon… okay,

New Horizons replaced it and did that.

There was the Comet Rendezvous and Flyby Mission, which would have sent a Cassini-class spacecraft

to a comet.

That was cancelled, but Rosetta accomplished most of its science goals.

For all the successful missions out there, many more were developed and then canceled.

Some because of budget problems or technological risk, and others because of a shift in the

political climate.

But what I've found time and time again is that specific goals to get achieved in the

end.

Even if a specific mission, instrument or spacecraft is canceled, the science goals

remain.

If it was worth doing, some version of it eventually does get done.

Although it sucks to see your favorite missions cancelled, it's all part of the process.

Were there any missions I missed?

Which canceled missions make you the saddest?

Which are you glad got cut?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

In our next episode, we look back fondly on the Voyager spacecraft, which are still going

after all these years.

They gave us our first look at the outer Solar System, and we still rely on their observations

to this day.

That's next time.

It's time for another playlist, all about the alternative history of space exploration.

I'm going to link you to a few interesting videos about what might have happened if things

had gone differently.

Starting with Alternate History Hub's take on what would happen if the Soviets landed

first on the Moon.

A Civilization 6 video about the Vikings colonizing space.

A video from Amy Shira Teitel about the cancelled Apollo missions.

What if NASA had the US military's budget.

And finally, an hour-long lecture from Neil DeGrasse Tyson at the 28th National Space

Symposium.

ESA and NASA partnered up called the - hmm hold on...
