and allowing our students to explore and to have exposure

to physical spaces that they may work in or learn in

in our futures.

and what that means and so to be able to see

that in-action has been really helpful.

Request: LGBTQ+ Question - Duration: 7:05.

I was asked to do a video on my opinion of "LGBTQ+ stuff" so...here goes.

Right off the bat, this seems like a pretty vague or broad topic, since it spans across

everything related to all genders identities and sexual orientations outside of the norm

But I think I can keep this from running an hour long.

After all, my opinion on a lot of the related things is simple and some others are more

internal issues or otherwise things I doubt were the intent of the question.

When it comes to basic rights in society, regardless of what part of the group is being

discussed (or really what group is being discussed) I'm in favor of them.

Similar goes for treating people with some general basic level of respect, courtesy,

and decency until they have actually shown they deserve something else (and sometimes

even after).

This goes for people who look different, come from different places, have different ideas

or beliefs, go about their lives differently...most things really shouldn't matter until they

start to actually impact other people.

So this absolutely goes for treating people decently regardless what they do with their

own body or with other consenting adults in private.

Now, for some of the stuff I suspect was more likely of interest.

For the sake of keeping this video a decent length, I'm going to try not to go into great

detail on everything.

If I see a reason to, I might make a video on specific things in the future.

When it comes to he addition of more and more letters/labels: I think it's confusing and can result in an

umbrella that sounds like alphabet soup to people, but I don't inherently have a problem

with someone having a word to actually describe what they are trying to say.

In fact, that tends to be part of the point of language.

Unfortunately, when there's a lot of change really quickly it can be difficult for people

to keep up and confusing.

It also means that very often there are a ton of new labels that people are still having

to constantly explain each time (defeating the point of having a single word for the

thing).

Basically, I don't have a strong opinion either way and I see both the benefit to them and

why it could be problematic or seem to have gone too far.

When it comes to the recently modified flag: Silly, IMO.

"People of color" is not actually related the rest of the things on the list.

Even if it was, that doesn't need any special representation in the main/umbrella symbolism.

As far as I'm aware we don't have a particular bi stripe or asexual stripe.

That said, I really don't care at all if "LGBT people of color" want to have their own flag

or symbols, if they want to use it themselves.

I just don't think that it needs to replace the overall umbrella symbolism,

since that was already meant to represent everybody.

When it comes to all of the extra genders that people are arguing over

I think what's going on is basically people are not all talking about the same thing.

Honestly, this is one area where I think Laci Green recently did a good job of explaining.

Some people are talking about biology, some about cultural expectations, and others about identity.

All of these different versions of what gender is lead to a lot of arguing past each other, more

or less fighting straw men, and some serious trouble getting to any valuable conversation.

As far as trans in bathrooms and changing rooms: I think people make a bigger deal out of this than

it really is.

Everyone has to go to the bathroom and in certain situations everyone has to change

or use other rooms that we tend to segregate this way.

As far as I'm concerned, we could stop separating everyone as if having different body parts

makes someone more or less likely to be a problem and actually make the individual stalls

private in the US. Which would solve some of the concerns I think.

Transitioning: What an adult does to their own body, when it does not impact anyone else,

is nobody else's business, so that part wouldn't be even worth more time discussing.

When it comes to children, the simple version is that I believe we should leave that to

the children and the medical professionals.

Parents should be involved in their children's lives, including this part of it, but should

not be trying to force anyone to be what they are not - whether that is demanding they believe

in something, trying to force them to like and date people the parents think they should

(such as the opposite sex, a certain race, etc.), or insisting they conform to what they

were expected to be

While this is something that occurred after the question was asked,

another related issue right now is the recent reinstatement of, or perhaps more accurately plan or

claim to reinstate, the ban on trans people in the military.

The very simple version is that I don't think it makes any sense.

I think those individuals should be held to the same standards as anyone else.

If they meet all the requirements, pass all the tests, etc. just like anyone else would have to

And if they don't, they shouldn't be in the military but they wouldn't have been without the ban either.

As far as the more rediculous claims

that obscure things are transphobic or homophobic: I expect some of this is overblown,

while other parts are just nonsense.

No, I don't think everything is something phobic, racist, or otherwise related to some

form or hatred or desire to discriminate.

And no, I don't accept the idea that someone preferring any particular "type" over another,

including someone who is not interested in trans individuals, to automatically be in

some serious way against those who aren't part of their type.

There are probably biases in play in the way there are always biases in play in anything

we do or even think, but the implicity negative tone of many of the specific terms don't apply,

and often the terms themselves don't apply.

That said, there are obviously also people who dislike or even hate some particular group

and base their preferences on that.

There are people who don't want to date a particular race because they are racist.

But not everybody who doesn't want to date someone is doing it because of that.

The same goes for trans individuals.

So these were the main things I could think of that might have been meant.

I never really did get any more clarity as to what was specifically being asked.

The GOP Establishment just doesn't get it.

Sen. John McCain is working to revive the amnesty bill — Gang of Eight — alongside

Sen. Chuck Schumer after he returns from getting treatments for brain cancer.

Breitbart reports:

According to The Arizona Republic, McCain, before leaving Washington to get cancer treatments

in Arizona, reportedly spoke to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) about joining

forces again to pass the "Gang of Eight" bill.

After joining Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to defeat the GOP's

"skinny repeal" of Obamacare, McCain, who has always wanted to be known as a straight-talking

independent, was lionized by Democrats and the legacy media, with CNN paying homage to

his "maverick moment."

Referring to the "Gang of Eight" bill, McCain told the Republic on Thursday that

he wanted "to reintroduce the same package that was passed through the United States

Senate and never taken up in the House."

"Immigration reform is one of the issues I'd like to see resolved," McCain reportedly

added.

"I've got to talk to him (Schumer) about when would be the best time.

I think there are all kinds of deals to be made out there.

I really do."

McCain worked with Schumer, along with Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Lindsey

Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Michael Bennet (D-CO), on the "Gang

of Eight" bill, which was introduced in 2013.

The Senate passed the bill but the House never took it up due to the massive amount of public

pressure Representatives faced against the bill.

The bill would have given a path to citizenship to most illegal immigrants, greatly increased

the number of H-1B visas to allow companies to displace rrican workers–U.S.-born and

legal immigrants–with foreigners who are not more qualified, and greatly increased

the number of legal immigrants who would be eligible to enter the country over the next

30 years to put more downward pressure on wages on blue-collar and white-collar workers

of all backgrounds already in the United States.

"I think you have to consider that we do want high-tech people, but we also need low-skilled

people who will do work that Americans won't do," McCain reportedly said.

"I wouldn't do it.

Even in my misspent youth, I wouldn't do it."

What to Expect during the First Trimester of Pregnancy

While pregnancy is one of life�s most joyful events, the first trimester can be overwhelming

for first-time mothers.

The first three months are marked by an invisible but amazing transformation within your body

and the baby, too.

Knowing the physical changes that one goes through during the first trimester can help

you face the months ahead with confidence.

Nausea (with or without Vomiting)

Most pregnant women suffer from nausea in the first trimester.

Although it is commonly known as �morning sickness�, one can experience it at any

time of the day.

The high levels of progesterone in the body due to hormonal changes slows down your digestive

system.

This in turn contributes to nausea.

Morning sickness does not usually cause any problems for the unborn baby.

However, if vomiting is severe and interferes with your day-to-day activities, you must

see your doctor.

Fatigue or Tiredness

In the early months of pregnancy, expectant mothers often experience fatigue or tiredness.

This is mainly due to increasing levels of the hormone progesterone.

Also, the nausea and vomiting you may experience during the first trimester can deplete your

energy reserves.

By managing fatigue, you can reduce your chance of a caesarean delivery.

To fight fatigue, sleep and rest as much as you can.

A healthy diet and regular exercise will also help boost your energy level.

Tender and Swollen Breasts

Soon after conceiving, your body goes through a lot of hormonal changes, which can make

your breasts sensitive or sore.

Also, your breasts may become larger and heavier.

However, your breasts will continue to undergo other changes during the later stages of pregnancy,

culminating with the production of colostrum, the precursor to breast milk.

Food Aversions and Cravings

During early pregnancy, it�s common to have highly specific food cravings, and you may

become totally uninterested in some foods.

You may also have an aversion to certain smells and tastes that you once liked.

You can always consult your doctor for other alternatives for food aversions to make sure

your body is getting all the necessary nutrients.

Heartburn

Heartburn is another of the most commonly reported complaints among pregnant women.

It usually starts during the first trimester and tends to worsen during the second and

third trimesters.

Also, avoid lying down after eating and don�t eat too close to bedtime, so that your body

has time to digest the food.

Constipation

As high levels of progesterone produced during pregnancy slows the movement of food through

your digestive system, it can lead to constipation.

Also, the iron supplements that your doctor may have prescribed can add to the problem.

To prevent or relieve constipation, include plenty of fiber in your diet and drink lots

of water along with fresh vegetable or fruit juice.

Doing regular physical activity also helps a lot.

Increased Urination

During early pregnancy, another common concern is increased urination.

You may need to visit the bathroom more often than usual.

Unfortunately, the frequent need to urinate isn�t limited to just the first trimester.

As your pregnancy progresses, the developing baby may put pressure on your bladder, increasing

your need to urinate more often.

Tips to stay healthy during the first trimester:

Take prenatal vitamins as directed by your doctor.

Exercise regularly.

Walking is one of the best exercises you can do during pregnancy.

Avoid strenuous exercise or strength training that could cause an injury to your abdominal

area.

Make sure to work out your pelvic floor muscles by doing Kegel exercises.

It helps you develop the ability to control your pelvic floor muscles for pregnancy and

childbirth.

Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, low-fat forms of protein and fiber.

Avoid raw fish or smoked seafood, raw sprouts and unpasteurized milk or other dairy products.

Drink lots of water to make sure your body is properly hydrated.

Steer clear of alcohol, caffeine, smoking and illegal drugs.
