Hmmm, so you want to start a new Youtube channel... welcome to hell!
Hello everyone and welcome back to vidIQ the channel whose soul purpose in life is to help
you get more views in less time and of course Youtube isn't hell.
On the contrary it has been one of the most creative and rewarding experiences of my entire
life so if you want to give this Youtube thing a crack here's ten top tips to think about
before you upload your very first video.
By far the most important thing you want to do when starting a Youtube channel is to create
content on subjects you are passionate about.
You'll know what you're passionate about, and crucially your audience will see that
passion and that enthusiasm and that energy.
There is nothing more infectious that watching someone share something with the world that
they truly care about.
And you better be passionate about it because there is a lot, hard road ahead.
It isn't easy, at first you will think you are talking to an empty room and when you're
trying to do your 17th take you want to be sure the content you are talking about fills
you with passion because sometimes if can be a drag not getting the content right and,
oh stop it.
Now you know what you're passionate about, you need to define what your target audience
is passionate about too, and we really need to talk about specifics here.
A channel about Politics is too broad, you need to narrow that down.
Trump may seem like the obvious choice but again that's a highly competitive topic of
discussion, so let's drill down further.
How about his former press secretary Sean Spicer because, well, he's one funny character....
period!
How about fidget spinners, the biggest craze of 2017?
Sure, but let's drill down, how about themed spinners, or better yet, super hero fidget
spinners because, well, I'll take any chance to hypnotize you with my Captain America spinner.

And as a final, personal, example, I'm interested in Tech, but one day I decided to focus on
the Apple iOS operating system, specifically how to screen record your iPhone or iPad.
The result?
Well take a look at this graph.
Have a guess where I really started to target a specific audience.
And if you're wondering what those two growth spikes are, check of the case study videos
we made.
If the target audience represents who you are creating videos for, then the next question
is why are you making these video?
This is what's called your value proposition.
This value proposition can be anything you want from intrigue to controversy to knowledge
to, well, anything, but you need to answer why it's any of those things.
Why is this intriguing.
Well because I'm about to show you something very unique which you may never have seen
before.
Why is this controversial?
Well it's because I have some pretty strong opinions that you may disagree with.
Why is this a knowledgeable video?
Well because it's a tutorial and I'm going to show you how to do this.
The why should always help sum up you video in one sentence which should be you video
title.
Which you should know before you even start your video.
Now let's combine the target audience with the value proposition.
Super Rare Fidget Spinner For Batman's utility belt.
5 Things I Love About Sean Spicer Being Our Press Secretary.
And How to Record Your iPhone and iPad Screen on a Windows PC.
That last one is a genuine video, it's on my channel and has over 160,000 views
When you have these two things in place you will be delivering the exact content a specific
set of viewers want to watch.
The next task is to maximise is the potential of that content.
This is where consistency comes into play.
Being able to offer the same value to the same audience time and time again will cement
your reputation with an audience.
So when you've made one video on DC Super Hero Fidget Spinners, make one on Marvel Superhero
fidget spinners.
When you've given your reasons for loving Sean Spicer, give your reasons for what jobs
you think he's suited for next.
When you've show people how to record an iPhone or iPad screen show them how to edit those
videos, suggest different recording options, do performance tests, troubleshoot bugs...
that's what I did and this is the first search page of Youtube for iOS Screen recorders.
I'm sure you have notice by now what I have a passion and thanks to lot of hard work I
now boss this target audience with my value proposition time after time after time.
So far we've talked about who, why and how of video making but once you've finished your
video there's still a lot of work to be done.
The boring things are just as important.
Youtube caters to an audience of billions so to make sure your video finds the right
target audience you need to work on those titles, tags and descriptions.
You need to give Youtube as much information as possible.
If you're smart you'll look at what other You tubers are doing in this target market
and tweak your search engine optimization or SEO so that Youtube can recommend your
videos right next to theirs.
When it comes to SEO competitor analysis we've already done loads of videos on the subject
so, well, check out our entire channel.
Yeah thanks for that.
Oh sorry about that but it does prove another point.
Make your thumbnails bold, bright and colourful, they need to tease the story of the video
and if there consistent with your brand, that will help you even more with that target audience
and value proposition.
At a glance you can identify vidIQ videos and many argue you should spend as long making
your thumbnail as you do making your video.
When you launch your channel there will be the huge temptation to go with the first video
you make but if you can try to launch your channel with several videos
This gives you the opportunity to create a playlist and populate your channel home page
with a catalogue to content.
This will establish you channel and give it a more authentic feel rather than a one video
wonder.
That's more enticing to a viewer and increases your chances of early much needed subscribers.
And now for little trip down nostalgia street.
This is my first ever video on Youtube.
This is my first ever video on vidiq
This is my first ever video using a green screen.
Now why do you I show you these videos, well they all represent where I've come from to
where I am today.
I haven't perfected a single thing but I have learned an incredible amount, I continue to
learn with every video I make and I always strive to improve myself.
So make that leap of faith and dare to do what you've never done before.
And those are some of our top tips to help you get started with Youtube, to help you
crack that first 1,000 views and by the time you get there you'll no doubt have some comments
to read and reply to.
