(The hot place for designs)

(Korea's landmark DDP)

(Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Jung-gu, Seoul)

(105th class at the foreigner school)

This is My Neighbor, Charles

where we meet foreigners living in Korea.

- Hello. / - Hello.

Spring, when everything comes alive, is here.

What comes to your mind when you hear spring?

↘ Spring, spring, spring is here ↘

Sayuri is very excited.

I love spring.

She can never sing more than

one line of a Korean song.

Same for me.

- I'm dumb. / - Me too.

You seem very excited.

Do you have any plans for spring?

I'm not sure but I'm planning to learn English.

You should study Korean first.

I studied Korean for 10 years.

I think you've become lazy.

March is when the new school year begins.

Today's guests are going to be

high school students this year.

They are very eager to study.

The family who are here with us today

have 7 members!

Let's invite them right away.

- Come on in. / - A big family.

Welcome.

- Hello. / - One.

Two, three...

There are more!

Five, six, seven.

What a big family!

Is she the only girl?

You're the father, right?

Hello, I'm Adnan. I'm from Iraq.

Hello, I'm Daaemiyyah. I'm from Iraq.

Hello, I'm the first child, Ilaaf.

I'm second, Hammoudi.

Hello, I'm third, Oras.

Hello, I'm fourth, Zaid.

Wow, he's good at Korean.

Who's going to be a high school student this year?

- Two? / - Both of you?

Are you twins?

How is that possible?

I went to school two years later.

So I'm in the same grade as my brother.

Do you speak in Korean at home?

We use Korean when we speak to each other

but we speak in Arabic when we talk to our parents.

How long has it been since you came to Korea?

- 10 years. / - 10 years?

What's the reason you came to Korea?

I used to run a big restaurant in Iraq.

One day, armed men came to my restaurant

in about 6 cars.

They came and threatened us with weapons

saying that I'm providing information

to the U.S. army.

Then they demanded a huge amount of money

as a ransom.

I got freed after paying that money.

(The father decided to go to Korea to protect his family)

You have many children.

- So many. / - 5 children.

Iraqi people really love children.

It's very common to have 4 to 6 children.

Both my husband and I were raised in a big family.

The house is lively thanks to the children.

Do they get along well?

The kids who are smiling

know that they don't listen to their parents.

Especially Oras looks very mischievous.

I'm sure some listen to them well...

- And some don't. / - Right.

Let's go check it out ourselves.

- Let's check. / - Please watch.

(My Neighbor, Charles)

(Being a Muslim in Korea)

(Yongsan, Seoul)

The family is settled in Seoul.

It's always the same in the morning

for families with kids.

Oras.

Oras.

Zaid.

Zaid, you seem really tired.

I'm sleepy.

- I'm sleepy to death. / - Then, just sleep!

Mom wake me up so I can't go back to sleep.

Really? Then get up.

But...

Good night.

This Muslim family prays five times a day.

Allah is the greatest.

Zaid came to Korea when he was only 2 years old.

He finds Arabic difficult and he's unfamiliar

with the prayer

but he's learning one by one from his parents.

When there's a sentence that

I don't understand in the middle of the prayer,

my dad divides the sentence in half

and tells me slowly for me to follow.

Hammoudi, why aren't you praying?

I already did in the morning.

Oras didn't pray!

The family of seven makes a living

by selling kebabs.

The oldest son Hammoudi

goes to help his father today.

Give daddy a kiss.

My baby.

I will see you later.

The family lived in Korea for 10 years

but the mother still lives in the Iraqi way.

I always have this cold Iraqi yogurt with my meals.

Is it good? Say yes.

It's delicious.

Can you give mommy a sip?

What about me?

I'm only going to give it to mom.

It's really good.

Okay, you can have a sip.

Alright, I'll have a sip.

It's really good, right?

The milk tastes good, right?

Two different languages and

two different cultures can be seen in this house.

(Oldest daughter, Ilaaf)

Since the brothers came to Korea

at a very young age,

they like spicy foods just like Koreans.

I don't put much effort in, but it turns out alright.

Her brothers' favorite Korean foods are

spicy rice cakes and kimchi fried rice.

(Yum)

Zaid, is it spicy?

They improvise to lessen the spiciness.

Now it's balanced.

The cheese kept you alive.

(It just looks very spicy to eat)

Spicy rice cakes stick to your teeth

when you eat it.

It doesn't cut no matter how many times you chew

and it just keeps sticking to your teeth.

Iraqi cuisine isn't spicy.

So Korean food is not to the mother's liking.

There's a national border on the table

dividing the foods.

5-year-old Kate was born in Korea.

Does he prefer spicy or savory flavor?

(Kebab)

Please try it.

No.

It's a delicious meal time

respecting each other's palate.

Ilaaf prepared the meal by herself

but now she even does the dishes

right after they've finished eating.

It's natural that I do the dishes every day.

It's just a matter of doing it once or twice a day.

Sometimes my brothers ask me to cook

and I make lunch and dinner for them.

I also have to clean up after them at those times.

Since it's a big family,

their mom can't do the chores by herself.

Take these in.

Take them all in.

Ilaaf is the oldest child

and she's the only daughter

so she naturally helps with the chores.

This is all your family's laundry?

Yes.

There's no more space to hang them.

The amount of laundry of this family is amazing.

It has become a hobby to hang laundry.

We do the laundry twice a day.

Once in the morning and once again in the afternoon.

There's no end to household chores.

But still, there are 7 members in this family.

I can't imagine the amount of chores.

Ilaaf seems very skilled doing the housework.

Hey!

Take him to his seat.

Don't you hear me?

Kate?

Let's run!

She tried to make them quiet down

but it didn't work.

Zaid, take your brother to his seat.

Kate!

(Screaming)

Just leave him alone.

(Total chaos)

I'm envious of kids who are an only child.

They say they are lonely

and having more family members is good.

You want to switch families with them, right?

Even just one more person in the family

makes things loud.

There's only one girl in our family.

I want things to be quiet.

But it's never quiet.

Just looking at them

makes me feel dizzy.

(Jung-gu, Seoul)

The father's workplace

is located in Namdaemun Market.

He sells Iraqi kebab.

Hammoudi is 17 years old.

I'm sure he wants to play like the others

but he helps his father on weekends

and during holidays.

I should help him. It's Saturday.

Welcome.

Chicken kebab is delicious.

Welcome.

Chicken kebab is delicious.

It's a kebab restaurant where they only use

halal ingredients permitted by the Islamic Law.

He runs a small store now

but his life was different back in Iraq.

I ran two restaurants when I was in Iraq.

They were both pretty big.

One of them had 120 seats.

We had a big house, a car

and our business was doing well.

He was a successful man

who ran big restaurants.

The life was abundant but

there was one thing that couldn't be satisfied.

It was the safety of his children.

Leaving everything behind,

they started from zero in Korea 11 years ago.

This small store is now settled as well.

It's the result from taking

just 3, 4 days off for the whole year.

Prices are very expensive in Korea.

I have 4 kids who go to school.

So I need a lot of money

and I need to work every day.

The life he chose for his children's happiness

changed his own life.

The father comes home very late at night.

Welcome home.

By the time he gets home,

it's time for the children to go to sleep.

Good night.

He can only see his children

very briefly in the morning and at night.

He can't even have dinner with his family.

The breadwinner's day finally comes to an end

very late into the night.

After a war broke out in Iraq,

the family decided to leave the country.

The parents began to adjust to the new environment

watching their kids enjoy their lives in Korea.

But...

They faced an unexpected obstacle.

I reported and sued them in 2014.

But I haven't heard anything from them.

That's a lot of money.

That was $13 million.

We worked here.

The despair was great

as the hopes were great.

I got everything ready

including chickens and other ingredients.

It was very hopeless.

As a foreigner,

being scammed in an unfamiliar country

was very heartbreaking.

(I'm 19 years old)

Let's take the taxi over there.

(Going to a friend's house nearby)

Mister, I don't know Korean.

I'm sorry. I don't know Korean.

Where are you going?

Mister, go straight.

She knows the way but she can't speak Korean.

Mister.

Yes, that's right.

This is crazy.

Go around and go this away again.

Go back to where we came from?

That way.

No, no.

It's that way.

The bridge...

No, before you cross the bridge.

Mom, be quiet.

He needs to go the other way.

You tell him.

It's that way. It's right there.

They are almost there

but they are just going around it.

No, no.

I told you it's that way.

I told you so many times

that it's that way!

Please go back.

Go back?

Then we have to cross the bridge and come back.

How do I go from here?

Not that way. The other way!

- Osan High School. / - No.

Mister.

Just drop us off here.

We will find our way.

You should've walked in the first place.

(Friend's house)

Hello, how are you?

She's even more happy to see her friend

after all the troubles she went through.

Make yourself at home.

I didn't hear from you these days.

I was very busy.

Ilaaf is a real Korean now.

After coming back home

from her outing with her mom,

Ilaaf made a big decision.

I will teach you some Korean.

I will speak first

and you just repeat after me.

Listen and follow me.

Bogwang-dong.

I know that word. Bogwang-dong.

Bo.

- Bo. / - Gwang-dong.

- Bo. / - Bogwang-dong.

Bogwang...

(Hahaha)

Oh, dear.

This is your name.

Daaemiyyah.

It looks like a window.

I will just watch.

No, you can't do that.

When I first came to Korea

I went to school with my kids.

I went for 3 months

and I learned Korean.

I wanted to continue to learn

but I also had to take care of the kids

so I had to give up.

(After a few days)

Ilaaf gets ready to go out

since early in the morning.

Is something going on today?

It's the first day of school.

You must be happy.

You mean about going to school?

No way...

Ilaaf came to Korea when she was 9.

Now she's a 19-year-old lady

but she's still in middle school.

She didn't know Korean at all

so she entered as a first grader

when she was actually a third grader.

(What a fussy reunion)

(Very girly)

(Very lively)

(Cute)

It's embarrassing.

Everyone wants to be

friends with Ilaaf, who's like an older sister.

I still can't get used to it.

They are always very hyper.

They are not my age.

They are two years younger than me.

When I'm with them, they also feel it.

The fact that I'm older than them.

So rather than telling my worries,

I usually listen to their worries.

Rock, paper, scissors!

Hammoudi is in the same school, in the same grade.

It's in Arabic.

Yeah? Arabic?

Can you read it?

You know how to read, right?

I can't read.

This looks difficult.

It looks very unfamiliar even for me.

I can't even read.

I can just talk.

You are an Arab, but you can't speak Arabic.

(Hehehe)

They met after a long vacation.

They can't just go home like this.

Let's check out these middle school girls' singing skills!

So handsome.

Gong Yoo.

Very good.

Who's singing?

Ilaaf stayed at home all the time during the vacation.

So going to school is like getting freedom.

(Rapper Ilaaf)

(Chorus)

(Getting more excited)

(Scream!)

- You should stay longer. / - No.

The bus is coming. Give it to me.

- I will give it to you later. / - Okay, bye.

Leaving her friends behind,

Ilaaf left first.

She must be in a rush.

Hello?

Yes, mom.

I'm in the bus right now.

Okay.

Bye.

Even if she says yes,

she keeps calling.

No wonder she said yes.

(We are not in Iraq)

Ilaaf must come home

before the sun goes down.

Dad kept asking why you were coming home so late.

We have one there. I think only that one works.

Is that a security camera?

There's one more here.

Over there.

One in the living room, one in the room.

There are two security cameras in your house?

Isn't it a bit too much?

I hold it in but...

My friends say that they can never live like me.

He's the one who installed the cameras.

I'm always working outside.

So I miss my children

and it's nice to see them even when I'm outside.

Another important thing is that

we live on the third floor.

My kids keep running around

so people living in the 2nd floor

are having a hard time.

So I need the cameras in order to

help my wife and control my kids.

(A few days later)

The children spent more time in Korea

than they did in Iraq.

It's only natural that they are

more familiar with Korean lifestyle.

I have something to tell you.

It's my friend's birthday

so I bought her a gift.

Who are you going with?

With a friend.

Take Dodi or Oras with you.

- No. / - Why not?

It's my friend's birthday. Why do I have to take them?

I told you this before.

You can't go without your brothers.

Your dad and I get worried.

Don't go alone.

You choose.

Go with your brothers

or don't go at all.

You always get angry

and stubborn.

We are not in Iraq.

Do I have to do that?

You can't go out alone

whether it's in Iraq or some other place.

You have to stick to our customs.

You have to stick to them even if we are in Korea.

Gosh, I won't go.

You do whatever you want.

Take your brothers or stay at home.

So frustrating.

I'm not going.

Whatever.

They are too young to protect me.

I should protect them.

In Iraq, women must take

their parents or siblings when they go out.

They can never go out alone.

Kate.

The youngest child is not Korean

so he can't get any financial support.

He's itching to move around

as he's always in the house.

You'll get hurt. How far are you going to go up?

Raising 4 sons in a row,

nothing really surprises the mom.

No matter how the day is

the brothers fight all the time.

Mom's not here, right?

I'm going to break this.

It happens every single day.

The youngest can't take it anymore and

stops the brothers.

Brat.

I now understand why their father

installed security cameras.

How many times do I have to tell you not to jump

since there are people living downstairs?

Why are you telling only me to be quiet?

Why only me?

Stop laughing.

Stand up. Get out.

Hurry and get out.

Get out now.

I'm going now.

Do I always have to get angry at you?

- Can't you just go? / - Fine.

They got kicked out of the house

but they can't stop fighting.

Alright. Go on.

I'm not going out.

Fine.

It's still going to be both of us, getting scolded by mom.

Geez, get out!

Serves you right!

There's a camera near our beds.

But it gets covered by Oras' bed.

So we can fight.

So we fight in our room the most.

The weekend is the clean-up day.

They get rid of all the carpets

and clean up every nook and corner,

Once a week.

How long does it take?

Around 2 hours?

Since the brothers are of no help,

Ilaaf, the reliable assistant, helps the mom.

(Sneezing)

He got a runny nose

because they opened the window.

Their sister Ilaaf is like

another mother for them.

It feels good.

Kate, stop tiring your sister out.

This is nuts. Come here.

Cooking, chores and childcare...

She's a really good oldest daughter.

It's so hard raising a child.

Children will never listen to you.

Also, they are all guys.

When there are 4 boys in the house

the house becomes a mess.

And I'm the oldest daughter

so I should help mom.

(I promise you to go to college)

(High school allocation announcement)

Ilaaf is nervous waiting for her

high school allocation announcement.

Why aren't they telling me?

What's the result?

Ilaaf, sit.

Here.

Congratulations.

I got in!

- What about Hammoudi? / - I don't know.

He will know once he gets here.

Okay.

I got in.

I'm happy.

I'm so happy.

These siblings always go to school together.

Where?

- Where did you get in? / - Why aren't you telling me?

You first.

- Jungkyung. / - Same, Jungkyung.

What?

- You got in. / - Yes.

Yay!

(They tell the news to their mom)

- Ilaaf. / - Hello?

How did it go?

We got our results.

I got into the same school as Hammoudi.

Okay, of course.

She just got into high school

and now she's worried about going to college.

English is the biggest obstacle.

So you are going to be a high school student?

Yes.

(Ilaaf wants to be a translator for Arabic)

Can I ask your English grades for

first and second semester?

I can test you better

if I know your grades.

I'm always in the lowest ranked class.

- Lowest? / - Yes.

She's doing pretty well in other subjects.

She can apply for college that she wants

if she can do well in English.

I know nothing.

I can't solve anything.

Things seem worse than expected.

- I'm not sure. / - You aren't sure?

No.

- You can't solve them? / - No.

I think you lack the basics.

That must've been the reason

why English was so hard for you.

So I've been sitting on my hands.

It must've been very difficult.

Usually, students come here with their parents.

They can't speak Korean at all

so I came alone.

I see.

- Thank you. / - Sure.

Comparing with other Korean students,

she's almost at the bottom.

She doesn't understand at all.

Studying English is urgent!

How was it?

(Private lesson fee is expensive)

- $300 a month? / - Yes.

I hope you learn English well.

You need to know at least one language well

between English and Arabic.

You can't be bad at both.

Learn English well at least.

Everything will work out, sweetheart.

The lesson fee is a bit expensive

but you should do it.

Ilaaf is in the middle of studying.

- What are you studying? / - Are you studying?

That's the basics.

Isn't this for us, elementary school students?

What? I don't understand.

Hey, you don't even know this.

I know!

What's window in English?

Window.

Are you asking me?

Then who?

What are you to ask me?

I'm just asking!

So annoying.

I'm just going to leave.

Get out. You're so annoying.

She's sour.

They are worse and they are teasing me.

There's a reason she isn't good at English.

When I was in elementary school,

I focused on studying Korean.

I should've learned English as well

but I was so busy with Korean

that I couldn't study English at all.

I can't take the entrance exam

and go to college

if I don't know English.

Now, she can't hold English off anymore.

From expenses for the big family

and children's education fee...

She lives a frugal life

to provide for the children.

When children's clothes get ripped

I use them to make pants for Kate.

I made these as well.

There's nothing to throw out.

If there's leftover cloth, I use it.

The frugal mother

becomes even more frugal.

Let me see your hair.

No.

You need to cut it.

No.

You need to cut it.

I'm really okay.

He even cries but

she won't let him slide.

(Shaking)

Are you going to cut all of it?

I'm just going to cut a little.

So he's getting a haircut in the house.

My hair is falling out so much!

(Piled up)

He's doomed.

Mom, why do you cut our hair yourself?

It's a waste of money.

I do a better job at cutting your hair.

The mother with skilled hands is very confident.

It hurts!

Stop shouting.

(Ta-da)

I shouldn't trust mom.

Come down!

As a third child of eight,

she had a happy life in Iraq.

But in Korea, she has to take care of everything

all by herself from household chores to childcare.

She misses her home

as she has no on to rely on.

Hello?

How are you?

Good, how are you?

Auntie!

Ilaaf, how have you been?

Is everyone doing well?

What about father and mother?

How's mom?

She's good. What about you?

I'm good.

Is everyone healthy?

Yes.

Why are you crying?

I miss you so much.

Me too.

Just looking at you makes me feel relieved.

Don't worry.

Okay, take care.

Yes, yes.

It got cut off.

It got cut off.

I miss everything.

It's really hard to overcome the homesickness.

Of course I have my family here

but my big family, love, happiness, gatherings...

They are all in Iraq.

Sometimes, life is so hard here

that I keep thinking about home.

(Strong mother's true feelings)

(We are here for you)

Everyone has come.

When they get an order for kebab bread

they run the factory.

They built this factory from selling their house in Iraq.

This is where their new life in Korea begins.

We can make the bread

when everyone is here.

All of our family members work together

at the factory.

To lessen the burden of their parents,

the children helps them without a word.

They could work up the courage thanks to the children.

They could also settle thanks to the children.

The parents feel sorry and thankful at the same time.

One day, the children will understand.

We are working very hard now

because we need money.

When things become better,

I want my children to do something better.

Even though it's for work,

all the family members have gathered.

Just the fact that the family is together

makes them happy.

What food do you like?

Korean food or Iraqi food?

Iraqi food!

It's Ilaaf and Hammoudi's middle school graduation day.

(Families have come to celebrate)

Younger brothers and their mom

have come to celebrate the graduation.

- Ilaaf, congratulations. / - Thank you.

Bye.

See you again, teacher.

This proves that they could well adjust to Korea

so it's more special.

However, on this happy day,

their father couldn't come.

He could have come if he had the time.

But he needs to work so he couldn't come.

Since the children has gone up a step

so I'm sure he feels happy as a father.

At the same time as the graduation...

The father cheers the children on

at his workplace.

There's a show called

"Return of the Superman."

When I see fathers on that show

and then look at my dad,

I feel so frustrated.

They are always next to their children

but my dad is always outside

with other people.

A father shouldn't just earn money.

He should stay by his children's sides

and play with them as well.

The father's absence

sometimes upset the children.

Look! It's gotten big!

The children are preparing for something.

Ilaaf makes food for her parents.

It's the first time seeing these brothers

being so serious.

(The children prepare a surprise)

They seem fine but

when they sigh deeply all of a sudden,

it really hurts my heart.

It's the parents' 19th wedding anniversary.

She becomes a wife once again,

not a mother.

Let's go over there. Let's go.

What is this?

The five children has prepared

a surprise party for their parents!

What a happy surprise.

They even prepared gifts

from their pocket money.

How thoughtful and adorable.

They even share their feelings with each other.

You worked so hard and went through

a tough time for us.

We hope you live healthy, long and happy lives.

Thank you and we love you.

- Very smooth. / - Thank you so much.

Seeing my children worry about us,

it seems our children have all grown up.

They finally know how hard it is for us.

I think I'm going to cry again.

You are our future.

We hope you are happy

and we see our future through you guys.

Thank you, children.

We hope that the love of 5 siblings grows stronger,

also receiving a lot of love from their parents.

(My Neighbor, Charles)

On your graduation day,

your father couldn't make it.

I'm sure you felt very sad.

I feel sorry for my children

and I'm thankful for my wife

who is also taking my role as a father.

I also think I should be with my family.

But it's also important to provide

for the family.

Ilaaf, weren't you sad that your father

couldn't make it to your graduation?

He couldn't come to my elementary school graduation.

So I already knew that he couldn't come.

- I guess you gave up. / - I know he's busy.

You all know that your parents are working very hard

to provide for you guys.

I'm curious as to how good students you are

excluding the youngest son.

Oras.

- Oras, why did you laugh? / - I saw you.

Oras smirked.

Oras, how are your grades?

- I'm in the middle? / - Middle? That's alright.

- Good. / - That's good.

Fabien, you were at the bottom.

I was in the basement.

Zaid, Oras. You should be nice to your sister.

I've never seen such a nice sister.

They tell me what they want to eat

and when I make it for them

they say it tastes bad.

After eating, they say it's bad.

- After they finish it? / - Yes.

Goodness.

I clean up after their mess.

But actually, when kids are growing up,

they don't really think about their sister.

- They are too young. / - Later, when they age...

For me, I have three older sisters.

Three?

I'm the youngest child.

My oldest sister literally raised me.

- Like your mom. / - Like Ilaaf.

But my oldest sister passed away

when I was young.

I see.

My other sisters now became the older ones

and they changed.

They became more responsible?

They looked after me and fed me.

The oldest daughter plays a huge role in a family.

Ilaaf must have a lot of worries.

- Right. / - I bet.

She has to look after all her brothers.

Let's talk about her worries.

- I think I already know. / - We all know.

But we will still show you.

(I'm not a little girl anymore)

I think this isn't what we were thinking.

"I'm not a little girl anymore."

You are 19 years old.

So you are not a little girl.

You want to hang out with your friends.

have spicy rice cakes

but your parents say it's dangerous to play outside.

Is that it?

They already know my schedule.

So they call me asking where I am

if I'm not home.

I have no choice.

Mom always tell me to pick up my brothers.

We are Muslims.

Muslims must pray five times a day.

They have to come right after school

so we can eat together

and then we can have time to pray.

If you think your parents are strict,

raise your hands.

(Weary)

Everyone thinks that they are strict.

Even Kate is raising his hand up.

The children feel the cultural difference

from both sides.

The children are now used to Korean culture

so they feel the difference with their parents.

They tell us not to go out

but the only thing we can do at home

is to play game but they nag us when we do.

You can study.

Studying is not fun.

They wouldn't study. I'm sure you didn't either.

As an adult, I understand how they feel.

But they are too young to understand us.

They are annoyed and they sigh

saying why I'm worrying so much.

I just say that it's because I want

them to be successful.

Our parents said the same thing

when we were their age.

When they grow up,

they will understand us.

Ilaaf, you wish to go to university in Korea, right?

Why is that so important to you?

When I become an adult,

if I'm not a student, and don't have a job

I must go back to Iraq.

Oh, because of the visa?

But your father has visa.

Yes, but when I legally become an adult

I have to take care of my own life.

Really?

What about getting a job?

It's hard even for Koreans.

I'm a foreigner so...

If you want to be naturalized,

you have to live in Korea for over 5 years

after you've become legally an adult.

And it's not like your parents are naturalized.

She has no choice but to go to college.

She just got into high school

but she already wants to go to college.

This shows how much she wants to stay in Korea

and worries about her future.

It's actually sad to hear that.

You can do it.

If your brothers help...

Especially Oras.

You should do your own laundry

and don't leave your clothes everywhere.

- Help your sister, Oras. / - Yes.

I beg you.

Things that you couldn't say to your parents at home...

Something like don't worry.

Please say something to your parents.

I have my own goal

so I will try my best to achieve that.

I hope you don't worry.

I hope they stay more relaxed.

- Give your mom a hug. / - Give her a hug.

(I love you)

Also, Hammoudi, the reliable son.

Hammoudi, you too.

My sister and I are old enough.

We can take care of ourselves.

They say they can take care of themselves.

Just like any other father in the world

I want to protect my children

and I want to raise them right.

I want to give everything they need

so that they can develop themselves.

I wish everything works out for you

and I will always support you.

If these children continue to stay in Korea,

they are our future.

We hope these 5 siblings

achieve their dreams in Korea

and grow up to be great people.

We'll all be cheering.

Thank you for coming today.

Thank you.

That's it for My Neighbor, Charles today.

SINGAPORE AIRLINES BOEING 777-200ER LATE-NIGHT FLIGHT REVIEW SINGAPORE TO JAKARTA - Duration: 7:32.

Hi guys, welcome back to another flight report video

Today I will be flying Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Jakarta

After spending some time in Ambassador transit lounge in Terminal 3

It is finally time to leave this beautiful terminal

and heading to Terminal 2 for my flight

Although terminal 2 is not as spacious as terminal 3

But it is still very comfortable and clean

Many facilities like indoor garden, interactive art, entertainment deck

and customer services are available here

Boarding was very on time

Not too long after i entered the gate we were already called for boarding

This time i'll be flying Boeing 777-200ER

In economy, seats are laid out in spacious 3-3-3 configurations

Seat was very comfortable with adjustable headrest

and decent amount of legroom

Remote control for the inflight entertainment is located under the arm rest

The IFE is on demand with great selections of movies, musics and TV shows

interactive flight map is also available

in a short flight, headsets are provided for passengers to take during boarding

After all the passengers had boarded the plane

scented hot towels were distributed by the cabin crew

Once the seat belt sign is turned off

The cabin crew have no time to waste

on this short 1 hour and 25 minutes flight

the cabin crew had to serve full hot meal with choices of beverages

to a full load passengers in economy

Therefore the service is rushed but still professional

There were 2 choices of main course for this supper service

Fish or Lamb. This time i went for the lamb option

It turned out to be lamb rendang with steamed rice and curry vegetable

it was very good

I also asked for a glass of red wine to compliment the meal

The meal tray also had a chocolate cake for desert

a cup of mineral water

and a cup of orange juice

Right after supper service, the cabin crew quickly took a way the meal tray

and cleared the cabin for arrival

everything is done very fast and efficiently

Thank you so much for watching i hope you enjoy this video

Jennifer Lopez Sued By A Hoverboard Company - Duration: 1:19.

While she is having best time of her life with her new found love Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer

Lopez is stuck in trouble.

Though this one is not a relationship trouble it is going to cost her a lot.

Jlo is sued on Thursday by a hoverboard company that supplied gear for her Las Vegas residency

show.

Lopez signed the deal to promote the products back in late 2015.

Sidekick Group claimed that they provided 42 custom hoverboards for use in the entertainer's

Planet Hollywood show in Las Vegas Jenny was supposed to do promotional posts for Sidekick

on Instagram or Twitter, once every 3 months.

Sidekick says she only posted once, and later deleted it.

The company stated the scooters specially made for her show costed them $54,390 therefore

they are suing her to get back that investment, plus other damages.

Canadian Tax Implications for Non-Resident International Real Estate Investors (5/6) - Duration: 3:36.

Hi i am earning a graph from Trowbridge

and today I will be speaking about tax

implications for non-resident owners

who own rental property in Canada.

The important thing to know is that

there are specific non-resident

withholding and reporting requirements.

One is able to rent the property as a

non-resident to a third party as long as

they meet these requirements.

As a non-resident of Canada if an individual

owns and rents a Canadian property to a

third party it will be subject to a

25-percent withholding tax on the gross

rental income. The 25-percent withholding

tax amount needs to be remitted to the

Canada Revenue Agency by the 15th of the

month following the month of rental and

is paid by the property owner. Some

individuals choose to reduce the

withholding tax by filing the

appropriate NR-6 form by the first due

date of the rental payment. Attached to

the NR-6 form non residents are

asked to attach a breakdown of the

anticipated rental income and expenses in

the event the expenses exceed the rental

income the withholding tax could be reduced

to nil. You must have a tax withholding

agent in order to file an NR-6 form.

There are no tax implications when

acquiring property however upon selling a

property it is important that the

taxpayer be aware they must file a

section 116 certificate with their

accountant or lawyer if they're selling as a

non-resident there are penalties for

non-compliance as well they must file a

tax return to the sale to report the

gain or loss.

The issue is having to pay taxes on all

the income generated outside of Canada.

The first step is to determine if the

individual became a non-resident of Canada

for tax purposes when they departed

Canada. This is based on evaluating the

individuals residential ties, assuming

they became non-residence they would

need to file a departure return for the

year of their departure.

The important thing is to ensure they

are meeting the tax withholding and

reporting requirements as a non resident.

A non-resident is able to own property

and rent a property to a third party, by

meeting these requirements they are

demonstrating to the CRA that they are a

non-resident by not having a home

available for their regular and

continuous use. Their income tax

obligations to Canada are based on their

residency status. An individuals

residency status is determined on a

case-by-case basis in the individuals

relevant facts must be considered. The

relevant facts in determining the

residency status include the residential

ties they have to Canada, the purpose

and permanence of their stay abroad and

their ties abroad.
