Hey guys for Complex News, I'm Natasha Martinez.
The self driving car may be here sooner than you think thanks to Apple finally getting
a permit to test the technology about two weeks ago.
The company obtained the permit on April 14th and their first test SUV was spotted in Silicon
Valley April 28th, showing there is no time to waste when it comes to being the first
to change the world's transportation experience.
The souped up Lexus RX450h SUV emerged from Apple's facility Friday and was spotted covered
in high tech equipment like optical cameras and sensors that helped the car observe the
world around it.
According to Engadget the sensors were off the self and not custom Apple designed hardware,
a reminder that Apple is not the only once racing to get the self driving car on the
street.
Alphabet and Tesla are also vying to get the autonomous-car technology on the road.
In fact California has granted the permits to 30 companies so far including startups,
car makes, and other giants like google.
Apples attempt at the self driving car is known internally as "Project Titan".
Steve Wozniak, one of the founders of Apple and one of the most respected people in the
tech sphere said,
"I'm hoping that the Apple Car, like the iPhone, is so different, so far ahead of others, leaps
ahead...I'm hoping Apple has maybe the first car with no steering wheel.
That you really can put your five year old in and send him to school...
I still think that Apple's the company that could do that and disrupt all the others."
