I'm a little nervous

because I am

learning Norwegian and..

I know that I'll make many mistakes.

But I know that I must

try to speak more Norwegian because I'm moving to Norway

and I have to work there, so...

Sorry, I'm so nervous!

I've studied Norwegian for 7 months

And before that I've never spoken Norwegian

But I studied German

for...

...2 and a half years... and

so it helps me

My boyfriend is Norwegian,

some of you know that

I speak slowly, but

I think in English, so it isn't so easy.

my boyfriend and I make flashcards,

and we practiced with them,

I have bought Norwegian textbooks

and every day we

try to speak Norwegian and

I read

and I use Duolingo

Now I think I am intermediate or beginning of advanced

I know I said that I...

So I don't know what I want to say now...

I try to talk about new themes every day,

So, for example, my boyfriend and say, "Which theme will we talk about today?"

And sometimes...

school today, or.

What is new with you?

I think I can talk about what I mean, and

I can understand better when one speaks slowly

But I'm nervous about the job

in Norway and I hope that I can

speak enough that I can get the job!

I hope that I can begin by

working in a store

or a hotel

So, my boyfriend

Kim's parents are Norwegian, obviously

so his mom and dad like it when I speak Norwegian

and I want to be a good daughter in law

and it is important to speak Norwegian because I want to have a job.

if I can speak Norwegian fluently, or a little better than I can speak now,

I want to apply to a school in Norway

so I can study in the school

for one year

so after one year, I can be a teacher

in English, music and art.

hopefully for high school students

so, yeah. I am so so happy

about this because I hope that I can teach English, music and art in Norway

and use my music degree

and maybe I can work part time

and I can have an animal sanctuary

maybe... I don't know...

maybe I can start a small business?

I hope I can adjust to life in Norway

but I don't know, so...now

after 7 months, here is my Norwegian

How To Fake Harmonic Motion - Duration: 5:32.

hey, welcome to 12tone! check this out: (bang) sounds pretty cool, right? it's got a lot

of motion, and plenty of weird-looking chords that seem like they'd make it really hard

to analyze.

now what would you say if I told you that, from a theoretical perspective, it's actually

just two chords? it's basically just Eb major to Bb7 and back again.

so why does it sound like so much more?

well, let's step back for a second and talk about line cliches. we've looked at these

before in a couple different song analyses, but I figured it was time they got their own

video, so let's do this.

line cliches are a technique for creating a sense of harmonic motion without actually

changing the harmony, at least not very much.

they're a pretty simple idea: you take a chord, like this Eb major, then you pick one note

in that chord and start to drift it up or down a half step at a time.

for instance, if we picked Bb, the 5th degree of the chord, it'd move up to B, C, Db, and

so on, all while the other chord tones stayed the same.

if we instead picked Eb, the root, we'd take it down to D, Db, and C. we could also start

on G, the third degree of the chord, but since it's between the other two it's hard to decide

which direction it should go, and since the third degree plays such an important role

in defining how that chord sounds, we tend not to base line cliches off it.

it loses too much of the chord's identity, which defeats the purpose.

the most common line cliches, though, are usually based on minor chords, so if we take

Eb minor and do the same things, we get this (bang) and this.

(bang) these again create a sort of mixed sensation where the harmony feels like it's

moving forward, but it also feels like it's sitting still.

as a brief side-note, moving a half-step at a time like this is called chromatic motion.

that term will come up again later, but first, what are these actually useful for?

well, the big thing is to make chords last longer.

often, the sense of motion in a piece of music is driven by changing chords, and line cliches

give you a way to do that without actually changing the underlying harmony.

you're cycling through a lot of different versions of the same chord instead of going

to new ones.

this means you can write whole, long sections out of only a couple actual chords, like we

talked about in the Hey Bulldog video, where the entire chorus is actually just B minor

and E minor, but they still manage to create this long sense of rising tension thanks to

line cliches.

but there's another benefit to playing chords slowly, which we talked about a couple weeks

ago in our four-chord loops video: if you play each chord for long enough, you break

down the harmonic structure of the piece and allow yourself the freedom to experiment more

without being bound to something like a key center.

line cliches are like the ultimate slow-playing technique: you can make a single chord last

for like 10 seconds, or even longer, without feeling like you've just stopped moving.

one of my favorite ways to exploit this comes from one of the major line cliches we saw

earlier: (bang) this pattern ends on a dominant 7th chord, and as we've discussed elsewhere,

dominant 7th chords really want to resolve.

they have a strong, directional pull toward any chord whose root is a perfect 5th down,

so we can take this Eb7 and resolve it to Ab major, at which point we can turn around

and start another line cliche: (bang) this time ending on Ab7, which again wants to resolve,

this time to Db, where we can start another line cliche, and we can continue through this

cycle indefinitely, moving through every possible key without ever really feeling lost.

but let's go back to that thing from the beginning.

(bang) this is called an Omnibus progression, and it's the same basic idea, except this

time we have two lines moving away from each other.

we can ignore the Eb chords at the beginning and end: they're not important right now.

what we're interested in is the five chords in the middle, starting with the Bb7. the

notes are arranged such that D is the lowest, then F, Ab, and finally Bb on top.

those middle two notes are going to stay perfectly still: every single one of these chords has

an F and an Ab in it.

meanwhile, the D in the bass and the Bb on top are going to switch places: the D walks

down to a low Bb while the Bb goes up to a high D. if we just follow those two lines

we get this: (bang) which almost looks like the notes are running away from each other.

once they swap places, we have our Bb7 again, and since it still wants to resolve to Eb,

we can break the chromatic motion and go back to our I chord, making this just an elaborately

decorated dominant resolution.

but we don't have to stop there.

we can keep going as long as we want, even going through the entire octave and ending

back where we started: (bang) you may notice, though, that this ending feels less like a

resolution than it did before.

I have a couple theories on that point.

the first is simply a matter of voicings: our moving lines have gotten so far away from

the inner voices that the entire thing starts to feel somewhat hollow, weakening the overall

harmonic cohesion.

my second theory is that we've just been sitting in this complex, chromatic weirdness for longer,

so our ears aren't expecting a sudden return to standard functional harmony.

I'm not really sure which of those factors is to blame, although I suspect it's a mix

of both.

to avoid this extreme stretching, though, we can also spread the rising line out between

our voices.

the bass should still do the entire descending part, or it loses that omnibus feel, but we

could, say, do something like this (bang) where there's always one voice moving up,

but we switch around which one it is in order to create a more coherent harmony, and when

we get to the end, we still have a pretty strong resolution.

it's not quite as striking as the version where one line does the whole thing, but it's

not as confusing either, so that's nice.

plus, this one has a bunch of dominant 7th chords along the way, and you can stop at

any of them you want, giving you a nice handy tool for smoothly switching keys.

anyway, that's basically it, but before we go, I did want to mention that the academic

First of all, I love cookies.

I love all things sweet.

I just have a natural sweet tooth.

So it really created this love of cookies.

I think it really got started

in the grocery store checkout line.

There would be these Pillsbury Bake-Off cookbooks.

You spend a little time doing a little work,

and then you had this delicious creation.

As a married couple, when we had our first,

then we had our second soon after,

spending all day on that cover recipe

was no longer an option.

So then I really became known for cookies.

Everybody was like, oh my gosh, these are so good,

you could sell these, or you could create a business.

And I was always like, one day, one day, one day.

Just one of the turning moments was when our youngest,

and he said, "Mom, it's time for you to get serious

"about this, you just stop talking about it

"and do something."

Just looked in different areas of town,

but settled on Homewood, because it was just

such a great size.

Everybody shops in Homewood.

It's just a great place to shop, great place to live.

Great place just to spend a gorgeous day or a rainy day.

So just saw this space and just decided,

okay, this is the time, it's never gonna be easy,

it's never gonna be low-stress, but let's just go for it.

So one of the things that really sets us apart

is that we have frozen dough to go.

And so you can bake at home cookies just like we have here,

and they come out of your oven hot and fresh.

Nothing's better than that.

The Lord has been so amazing.

He has made it so clear that it's all Him,

that it's not me.

He's given me talents, He gives me energy,

He gives me strength.

He has just sent me amazing ladies that work with me.

Everyone who works with me has come to me.

It's so funny, even on our days off we come in.

And they do, I do.

'Cause we gotta have a cookie in the afternoon.

Anything with peanut butter and chocolate

is always gonna be my favorite.

Day in, day out, the peanut butter chocolate chunk

is my favorite cookie.

Paul Ryan Forces Out House Chaplain Who Criticized His Tax Cuts - Duration: 3:24.

If you thought that Paul Ryan couldn't get any more heartless, then take a listen to

this.

This week, Patrick Conroy, who is the chaplain of the US House of Representatives, the man

who is in charge every day of going out there and leading the US House of Representatives

in prayer, has been forced out by Paul Ryan.

He submitted his letter of resignation yesterday, and in it he says, "As requested, here is

my resignation, effective May 24th of this year."

Now according to four different sources, two from each party, Conroy was forced out of

his position as a holy man for the House of representatives by Paul Ryan.

A man who loves to throw his religion in everybody's face fired a holy man, so the big question

is why?

Well, according to bipartisan sources in the House of Representatives, it's because Paul

Ryan was getting paranoid that this House chaplain might be more in favor of Democrats

than he is Republicans.

In fact, Paul Ryan was increasingly upset with the fact that on November 6th of last

year, when they were first debating the Republican tax cut bill, the chaplain gave a prayer that

said the following: "May all members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our

great nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success

while others continue to struggle.

May their efforts these days guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new

tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans."

That prayer from the chaplain, the holy man of the US House of Representatives, pissed

Paul Ryan off, because he understood what his tax bill was all about.

It was about paying back the wealthy for funding his entire congressional career, and how dare

this supposed man of God say we should take care of poor people too.

Paul Ryan bided his time, and finally, when he decided he wasn't going to run for reelection

anymore, he was going to force out the chaplain of the House of Representatives who has been

serving in that capacity since 2011, a guy that everybody in Congress, regardless of

political party, seemed to like.

Everybody had positive vibes about this guy.

Hell, his only responsibility was going out there every day and just saying a prayer,

but he got a little too political, because he actually believed in the Bible and thought

that Congress should make sure that they take care of poor people too.

Apparently, for Paul Ryan, that's the line that you cannot cross, even if you're a holy

man, and even if that's literally what the Bible tells people like Paul Ryan, who claim

to follow the Bible, are supposed to do.

Paul Ryan is a lying, hypocritical piece of crap, and I cannot wait until the day that

he is no longer the Speaker of the House and a member of the House of Representatives.

His political career is long past due to go away, and this little story here about him

firing the chaplain because he was mad that he criticized the tax cuts, is only further

proof that Paul Ryan has absolutely no heart and certainly no soul.

Jurgen Klopp hasnt confirmed or denied whether Sadio Ma ne will miss Liverpools Premier League clash with Stoke City with a thigh injury.

Part of the issue here was that Jill only read at a 2nd grade level, and she's not

visual aids or hands-on activities available for instruction, and not just pamphlets.

It's important that you keep in mind the physical, mental or emotional challenges of

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves this summer, and his current captain has likened him to Steven Gerrard.

Conor Coady progressed through Liverpools youth ranks and made two appearances for his boyhood club in 2012/13.

Coady is now captain at Wolves, where Neves has been a star man as the Midlands side romped the Championship title this season.

So the 25-year-old is well placed to comment on his current midfielder and his former captain at Anfield.

Ruben Neves is by far one of the best players Ive ever played with, Coady told BBC Radio Merseyside.

When I was coming through, Steven Gerrard was playing more as a sitting midfielder under Brendan Rodgers.

Ruben is very similar, in terms of his passing range.

The way he manipulates the ball around his feet and picks out passes.

And the goals he has been scoring are sensational.

Earlier this month, it was claimed by a reliable Portuguese journalist that Neves was heading to Liverpool in the summer and that talks had begun between the two clubs for the 21-year-old.

Steven Gerrard has been tipped to become the new manager of Rangers, and Jurgen Klopp says he will have his total support, whatever his decision.

Gerrard has been thriving as Liverpools U18s boss this season, having taken the role after bringing his illustrious playing career to an end in 2016.

He has been widely expected to slowly work his way through the youth teams, before potentially becoming Klopps long-term successor as first-team manager.

Strong links suggest he is the favourite to take charge of Rangers this summer, however, which has been met with a mixed response.

Some feel he is jumping the gun, at a time when his coaching career is still in its infancy, while others believe it is a logical next step.

Speaking in his pre-Stoke City press conference on Friday, Klopp gave Gerrard his full backing, regardless of his eventual choice:.
