But how do we do to find an affordable plane ticket?
Hi, and welcome to this sixth training capsule, to help you on your next trip.
Today, we are going to talk about planes.
More specifically, plane ticket.
As I explained in the last episode, a plane ticket is very expensive.
But today, we will see together some tips to reduce it's costs.
And it's not easy, because companies make the price vary
several times a week.
Buying a plane ticket is a real dice game, although when you take
place in your seat, the guy on your left may have paid his ticket two
times more expensive than yours, while the other on your right will get it for half the price.
I'll tell you right now, if you want to take a plane ticket for Madagascar
on July 15th, you're put a finger in the eye.
Because the first rule to find an affordable ticket is to be flexible.
NOT FLEXIBLE LIKE THAT.
You have to be flexible on your schedule.
Before going further, I'll introduce you my best tools for finding my flights.
Another tool developed by Google.
This is Google Flights.
By going on it's web page, Google will have you already geolocate and suggest you as
departure airport, the one closest to you.
In my case, it's Montreal.
As an example, we will take the famous flight from Madagascar I mentioned earlier.
Let's say I really want to leave on July 15th, for a week.
Google finds me the cheapest ticket for one round trip, so 2568 $.
I see here that it's actually three stops, so four planes spread out over a total of 46 hours ...
Ouch.
By pressing view flights, I can see all other options.
Here we can compare all the flights that lead to Antananarivo on July 15th.
We see that Google has already filtered the cheapest flights.
To the far right, there is the price, and if we go to the left, we can see
number of stops, and airports in which they are made, the lapse of time between
the first take-off and the last landing,
as well as the airlines that operate the flights with the time of the first take-off
as well as the last landing.
The little plus in the corner is the number days after the first take-off.
For example, this flight with Air France with only a single stopover, and 5h less costs $ 544 more.
It's really expensive and it's not good flights.
Let's see what we can do if we are flexible.
So if we come in the dates of travel, there is an option for flexible dates.
From here we can choose if we want to leave a weekend, a week, or two.
If I want to leave in July, I click on July, done, and I restart the search.
Wow, I now have a $ 1819 flight, so $ 749 less than the first flight.
Good what it is, whew, 32h, and three stops it's still very long.
But for only $ 68 more, I have only a single stopover and the journey is only 22h.
Now if I want to restart a search with very flexible dates I can search
the cheapest ticket for the next six months.
Wow! We now have a $ 1119 ticket,
To have this prices, we will have to leave from the 12th to the 19th of March let's see that in detail.
Well, clearly, the second flight is the best.
$ 10 more, but a single stopover and 14h less.
It's nice to save, but my time worth more than 0.71 cents an hour.
By clicking on the flight, you can see all the details.
The first flight is with West Jet, departure from Montreal at 16:25.
1h18 flight to Boston airport.
2h42 layover for the next flight that leaves at 20:25 for a night flight to
Paris Charles de Gaulle.
The flight is done in a Boeing 787 and landing is at 8:15 the next morning.
The time is always displayed in the Local hour of the aréport.
That's why a 6:50 flight lands 11:50 later.
For example, when I came back from Japan, my plane made a flight of 12 hours, and I landed
at the same time as I took off.
on the same day.
There are also the details of the seats. The average space for the legs, the wi-fi
USB connections and video on demand.
Finally I think we do not need to see the last flight in detail, I think you understand the principle.
If you select this flight, you can then choose the return flight.
Personally, I would be tempted by that one.
Maybe a little longer, but a change less plane.
It reduces the chances of losing your luggage.
Finally, we can call at Air France to get tickets at $ 11,310 or book
by Delta online for $ 1,129.
It's complete rubbish.
That's it, now remains only to buy the ticket with Delta by filling in the online form.
But wait, do not do it right now, to save even more, there is something
there is always something that you must take time to observe before buying a plane ticket.
But we'll see that a little later.
If we summarize so far, we wanted to leave for Madagascar on July 15th.
But we have seen that if we are very flexible in time, we can easily find
a ticket for less than half the price of the cheapest ticket of July 15th.
We started from $ 2568 in 46 hours and 3 stops to $ 1129 in 24 hours and two stops.
Now let's say we have a budget of $1129 to travel, and that we can also
be flexible on our destination.
We can do a very quick search on the map to display other very interesting options.
Just zoom out as far as possible on the map, keeping our flexibility
over the next six months, and launch the search for this whole area.
We are lucky, all flights shown are less expensive.
We could go to Tokyo for $ 1112 in September, although this direct flight at $ 1163 is much more interesting.
We could also go to China for $ 660 in March.
We start having very interesting prices, and we always talk about round trip ticket.
We can go to Tel Aviv for $ 630, Puerto Vallarta for $ 434.
We can also frame a more precise area like the South Americas and relaunch the search.
We could go to Lima in August for 593, or Cancún for $ 334
or why not Cape Town at $ 954 in March.
I can also relaunch a research on Europe.
From here, we can find pretty ridiculous prices for an intercontinental trip.
The reason is that Google Flight also finds flights with low cost airlines such as WOW air.
Wow Air is an Icelandic company that aims to bring as many tourists as possible to Iceland.
So all their flights pass through Iceland.
It makes it possible to go back and forth Montreal, Amsterdam at $ 565.
And nothing prevents to visit Iceland on my way.
But how do they do to offer prices that low?
It's not complicated when traveling in regular flights, the price of the ticket
included, a meal in flight, a snack, a second meal in flight, wi-fi, movies on screen,
cabin luggage, often even a hold baggage even if we do not use it.
Adding all these costs, we can easily reach $ 200 for the driveway only.
Traveling on a cheap plane, nothing is included, no meals,
no luggage, not even your little backpack.
Unless you try to hide it under your coat.
In a cheap flight, you have to pay for everything you bring and everything you eat.
So eat a good meal before leaving and travel as light as possible.
If you want some extra clothes, wear them all on you,
so they will not be able to charge you.
Hide a bag under your coat and conceal all the objects you want to bring
in your coat pockets.
Nothing prevents you to tighten all that in your bag once you get on the plane.
It must not take too long because it's really hot.
It's a practice I do not have yet had the chance to test because to delivered you
the images of my travels I have always to much stuff to bring with me.
Some camera, a laptop, a drone and a bike ...
These are all things that fill a lot of room.
But know that if you want to travel for cheap, it's a very interesting option.
But again, do not buy your ticket right now.
Before buying any ticket, you have to follow the prices.
Activate that option right here.
You will not believe how much the price of a same ticket can vary.
For example, I follow the prices for this flight since few months already, and Google sends me
by email a warning every time that its price changes.
And on this chart, we can see that since that I follow it, its price is gone from 380 $
and it went down to $ 260 for eventually to go back to $ 540.
You understand now when I said at the beginning that the guy your left could
have paid his ticket twice you price, while the other on the right only the half?
So, observe the variations, and buy your ticket when it is at the lowest price.
Well... not yet.
Before ordering your ticket online, call a local travel agency and asks if
they are able to get you the same ticket.
Sometimes they have access to preferential prices because they do a lot of transactions.
But do not wait too much, because buying a ticket at the last minute is in my experience a mistake.
I had to pay twice for a return ticket sp much expensive because I
I bought it only a few days before I came back.
For example, the famous Madagascar ticket went from $ 1119 to $ 2690 from one day to the next,
just because the takeoff was imminent.
Airline companies prefer takeoff an airplane with an empty seat, rather
than to let him go discount.
If you are ready to do some road to take a flight, you can also check if
other flights are available in nearby airports.
For example, if I want to go to Las Vegas, my best price for this day and $ 538.
But if I do a search from nearest airports, I see that if
I can take the road to Ottawa and catch a flight at $ 442.
So if we summarize from the beginning:
1. Be flexible on your dates.
2. Be flexible on your destination.
3. Be ready to drive to another airport.
4. Travel light, luggage can be expensive.
5. Price track with Google Flight to buy your ticket when it falls at least expensive.
6. And finally, ask an agency if they can get you the ticket for less.
7. But do not wait until the last minute because prices tend to explode.
So there we are, I hope that thanks to this video, you will be able to find a flight
to a destination you dream to visit since a long time, at a price that you
can affort.
