Umu: Alright um
So we have an awkward situation here (HOLY SHIT NAOKI WITHOUT A HAT, SUCH NICE HAIR)
Naoki: No uh so Shimon is too busy enjoying being Japanese
and by that I mean he's playing kendo and playing with long hard sticks ;) Umu: But who's this
*Awkward zoom*
Naoki: Heheheahah
*Rossini's Semiramide Overture plays*
(Doing this with a face mask on)
Ben: Uh my name is Benjamin Kronk Umu: *Giggling*
I am a senior violinist
Umu: And you're going to see his better intro you know
Later
Ben: Yes!
Naoki: Because Emma didn't organize this very well Umu: 2NE1. Hey no this song came out and I'm like *clap clap* we gotta react to this
Umu: But yeah this is a girl's group, they're called Girl's Day and I- Ben: (I think he said something in Korean)
*Inner shame*
Umu: Oh my go- hahahha Naoki: Hahahahha Ben: Sometimes it takes me a while
Ben: But I- I get it
Umu: I don't know how you're gonna feel about this cuz it definitely does have woman empowerment Yunyi: Dude-
In it but it-
I turned off the lyrics, the lyrics should be off cuz the lyrics kinda- Yunyi: I'm just gonna
Yunyi: I've like thought about it and I'm just gonna take a backseat as well as I can because
It's not up to them it's the society that they're in
Honest to God like it's not their fault and I never intended it to sound like it it was their fault so like Umu: Mhm
Yunyi: What do you gotta do, girl's gotta have a job, so- Umu: Yeah
Kevin: *Makes a tune*
Umu: This came out a few days ago, umm what was the date a few days ago
Jarod: Well today's the 31st Peyton: 31st soo
Jarod: So it could be the 30th, the 29th, the 28th, the 27th, the 26th, the 25th, 24th, 23rd.... Umu: Yes, yes OKOKOKOKOK Peyton: Alright
Jarod: Emma it's- it's 3/24 (*3/26 tho) cuz on the bottom corner of the video it says 2017. 03. 24
(You couldn't have pointed that out sooner lol)
Umu: Yeah
Umu: There's just something about this song that I can't get enough of
Ben: Mhm
Umu: And you guys will definitely- Ben: Is it the yellow socks at the beginning Umu: Yes
Umu: Alright let's go Girl's Day I'll Be Yours Ben: Girl's Day
Umu: Hit it
*Nobody Hits it*
Naoki: ThreeTwoOne Ben: Noope
Ben: ThreeTwoOne Naoki: Oh f*** you
(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Gwen: I already love it
Kevin: Oh boy we're gettin retro
Ben: Aaaahhh the big band?
Henry: Sssassy
Peyton: OOOOOwwwwww
Yunyi: That's great
Henry: Yo
Jarod: Ungh exquisite
Fiona: Their butts are so sparkly
Davis: She looks like a doll Lindsey: Wait this is like soo good
Peyton: Imagine if that was your job the rest of your life
Yeah I play lip trills on kpop tunes
mmm
Gwen: This is a sexy song.. I just don't like their singing Hugo: Yeah her voice-
Hugo: I- see everytime I'm like their singing is great and you're like nah
Jarod: I like- I haven't even looked at the screen yet other than the beginning, I'm like- I'm like diggin it man
~(˘▾˘~)
Peyton: OOAH
Kevin: Chromaticism Yunyi: Chromaticism yeah
Kevin: Descending tetrachord melod- well it doesn't really go tetra
Naoki: That was cool, that- that suspension yeah Ben: That's really-
Naoki: Ohh that's nice syncing with the- Ben: That's a- pretty hip uhh jazz themes
Kevin: I like it
It's
Peyton: I will learn Korean for everyone of those women
Kevin: Like usually with these retro style songs
they try to compromise, ok Yunyi: Sssh shhh shhh
Jarod: Yeeaaahh Peyton: Oooh
Yunyi: Sorry I wanted to listen to the solo
Jarod: And like the music cuts out, and it's just her
Jarod: and she nails it. That- her audio engineer nails it Peyton: Korean korean korean korean korean
Peyton: Oh piano's on fire
Yunyi: But you know- Kevin: That was cool
Yunyi: Good job she was playing- she was playing from
from the- from the elbow which is good Kevin: Ooh
Yunyi: It's nice for a- it's a nice dropping technique Kevin: Yeah it's it's *Not words*
Ben: But the thing that makes it cool is because of the brass and electronic sounds that are kinda like more dirty or whatever so they're a little bit distorted
Fiona: Cinderella
Yunyi: I like that chromatic descending line Kevin: Yup yup
Hugo: And the vocal line fits really well into the chords
*Shook Kevin is shook*
Kevin: There's a thirteen in there Yunyi: Oh! Ok
Peyton: Better break it down girl
ben: and then the full band in for the choruses yeah naoki. yeah. it's very good.
Fiona: I like it Henry: If I- that's not a legal boxing move
Gwen: He just got kicked in the face
Like the actual face Hugo: Shh
Kevin: NOT AGAIN! Yunyi: OOOOHHAAHHH
Yunyi: Are y- WHY!?
Why does that always happen
Umu: *giggle* Hugo: They- they like breaking pianos in Korea Gwen: Yeeahh
Jarod: I have never seen rapping so sexy before
Yunyi: I don't know what I was thinking, I was thinking like
Like oh there's probably not gonna be anything happening to the piano
Hugo: Ooh I like the snare drum breakin it down into the bass
*Yunyi's heart feels the burning of the piano*
Kevin: Right and she's still playing on- ok
Gwen: I like the bass line
It's very prominent and i'm into it
Hugo: Well I like it that it's the bass line and then their voices over the top because their voices have a higher
I don't wanna say tinnier but a brassier timbre
Hugo: Aw yeah f*** yeah girl that was some damn good sh*t that slide was dope
Peyton: *Scared pterodactyl noise* Jarod: *Jaw dropped*
Peyton: She hit him
I like her
Lindsey: There's just so many different scenes
Kevin: Ooh tough dances
on heels
Lindsey: There's- I like that, there's a lot of different settings
Jarod: Dude that's impressive cuz heels are hard-
Lindsey: Gives them variety
Kevin: Ritardando Yunyi: yeah
Lindsey: Ritardando
Yunyi: Ritardando ending
Kevin: Thank you
Ben: I think some of the best things about kpop is that they work the music video so well with the music
cuz like the climaxes work so well with what they're doing
and her like solo parts
Naoki: Oh yeah her voice- Ben: Yeah the vocals are so good god she kills it
Ben: And like builds intensity cuz like Oh we're all instruments and she's like ah yeah
Henry: I'm glad that she was like how bout...
leave
I was kinda like
Ey
Gwen: That was not very good boxing technique
Hugo: XD *clapclap* Umu: Eheh
Gwen: Well when you're in a dress it kinda hinders your movements a little bit Gwen: Does it
*Noise*
Peyton: and they did these like really long trumpet notes
TAAAAAAAAAAT
Jarod: Dude
Umu: Alright, so overall thoughts with that
Fiona: I liked it
Davis: Yeah Lindsey: It was cool I like it, I- I- really don't- I agree that there, like the background there's not much going on
it's like atonic pedal with the occasional like dominant like- but it's- there's nothing like super interesting
But it was just like pleasing
Davis: Yeah
Kevin: I- I'm a fan
Hugo: Ok we have differentiating opinions I think
But I really liked it, I thought- Gwen: I like the song
Hugo: I- I- I like their voices too. I thought that it fit really well within the style of music. It was really kinda
It was- it was a sexy song like regardless of the video the song itself was a sexy song Gwen: Super sexy
Hugo: Like the bass line- ah- the- I like how they had a very clear bass line it wasn't
Hugo: A lot of bass lines- Gwen: It was like an actual bass
Hugo: Yeah and a lot of bass lines we've heard are like droned or like booooooWOoooooo
Like the- this one had- it had a hit and a release and that was what made it so nice Gwen: Yeah it was like a slap bass
Hugo: It was like an actual electric bass line Gwen: Like someone like actually played bass
Hugo: Exa- rather than studio produced bass line which I really enjoyed and I think that contributed to the technic-
But it was also studio produced so you had those snare rolls and like bbrbrbrbbbrbrb oh and it was so good
Yunyi: That was fun Kevin: As I was saying
Kevin: Like even though even though it was just an electro vibe in the chorus
Like too often with these retro songs they like to find a compromise between keeping the retro and also like
making it not too electroey so the fact that keeping the uh- yeah retro and electro
I like that
Yeah this one it- it like no matter where it's going it's all very characteristic and very you know in your face with it. It's like the beginning it's very
Brass and piano and the electro hits and the beat is thumping and stuff
So it's *Thumbs up*
Naoki: Oh yeah that was cool, yeah Ben: Yeah that was super good
Ben: Yeah Naoki: That was really good
Ben: I thought it was cool Naoki: I was jammin'
Ben: Yeah no it was super cool, it's got a really good beat Naoki: Yeah
Davis: Yeah I liked all of the synthesized stuff, the percussion sounded really cool like the- I mean if that's what you're into
then they did a really good job of delivering on that
So I think it hit all the marks
Jarod: These people
They're killin' it
Peyton: I'd marry them all (polygamy is illegal in most places just sayin)
Jarod: I would marry that groove
That was
That was
Deep pockets like that's like wearing like a jean skirt but it's just dis- like disguising these huge pockets ya know
Ungh
Umu: The song?
Jarod: *Pitch goes up* Yeah
Like the beat was pretty thicc
Peyton: Ladies and gentlemen you can't marry pockets
Umu: And it- there was crunchy chords in there weren't there
Kevin: Yeeaaahhh
Kevin: BEEEHH BALALAH Umu: Woahwoahwoah
*Intense piano playing*
Kevin: Huh, thirteenth
Fiona: It sounded- it sounded like a videogame at parts
I don't know it- it fit, I liked it
Umu: Ok
Thirds
thirdsthirds
Umu: Alright so you weren't a huge fan of it
Henry: No
Um I just like wasn't really, classic wasn't crazy about the music
I mean- but like I said bu- if you change like
a little bit of it, I would be like Oh hey this is kinda cool
Like if there were no vocals (he doesn't usually listen to pop/vocal music) and you took away some of the weird electronic drumming and replaced it with actual studio musicians
Like if the rhythm section were a little bit different, I might be like
mnng
Umu: heh Henry: Kay
Henry: This is cool
Also the horns were samples which was weird
Like it had- it had the ability to be pretty cool but then it changed enough to be popular that I was like
Umu: Alright and yeah and popular isn't your style
Jarod: As far- as far as kpop goes m- that's gotta be one of my favorite grooves
Umu: Alright Jarod: MMmmm
Jarod: And then the rhythm began with a BUMBUMBUMBUM
And then she kills it and
Boom
damparara and then you're back in it like it just takes like a stop
Pop it lock it drop it umf
Peyton: Excuse me sir where are you poopin lockin and droppin it
Jarod: Everywhere
Ben: Yeah no this one's cool they made it kinda jazzy so they incorporated some like, nines, elevens, thirteens Naoki: Some jazz chords
Naoki: Thirteens, fifteens, seventeens Ben: Upper structures
Naoki: Nineteens, twenty first, twenty third Umu: Ohmygo-
Hugo: I thought they were doing, for the most part, healthy singing umm they liked to cry a little bit you know what I-
Aah
Like
I can't even do it because it's guitar- Gwen: You go like Aaaahhh
Hugo: Yeah Umu: Oh it's the release
Hugo: Yeah it's even- even in sometimes riffs people do that it'll Gwen: Yeah where they're like aaahhh
Gwen: AAAaahHAAAH\
Hugo: It- it's
Hard to doo purposefully Gwen: Britney Spears does that
Gwen: That's like the entirety of Britney Spea- like Hugo: *Attempts purposefully*
Gwen: Hit me baby one more time
Hugo: Tiiimmee
Like that wa- that was an exaggeration and that was definitely more Britney Spears but they had a few of those in there and I think that's
Like if I aannyyy like small tic that would be it it's just cuz- but that's also- it's fine it's just not my kind of singing, BUT for this song I thought it fit
Gwen: I- yeah I think it fit the song it just- I- I don't know it was just too brassy for me to enjoy fully and they were good singers, they just weren't like
Gwen: My favorite singers Hugo: Yeah I weill say, they sang a lot healthier
Hugo: Than some of the other singers I've heard. They- their- their- Gwen: In order to get the- they wanted that brassy tone for the song
Gwen: And they got it in the way that you should get it Hugo: With their vowels rather than trying to belt it
Gwen: Yeah Hugo: and I think that they did
Hugo: They did a really good job of making a sound, sound like
Gwen: Yeah, it sounded like a trumpet, especially on the riffs like they like yeah Hugo: It sounded good, it sounded good
Hugo: It was good and I think that's what they were going for cuz they- there was trumpet playing in it too and they were- I think they were trying to uh
Imitate that so, I feel that they did a good job Umu: Awesome
(YAS DREAMCATCHER IS NEXT)
