Hello, I'm Robert or DaddyCool as some of you know me from "Un site de muzica" and
my guest is the one and only Alexandra Stan, the beautiful and talented singer.
Alexandra, I was waiting for you for so long.
It was a must to make an interview with you Yes, I know.
We are together now, on the couch, and we will talk about "Noi 2" only the two of
us.
Well, we are not alone, we have Diana, the PR girl right there.
You know, the people who are behind the artist are always hidden.
How are you, Alexandra?
I'm very good actually… (it's so sunny here and I can't see you properly)...
I just came from your colleagues, I sang for the first time "Noi 2" live on Kiss Fm.
And also "Boy Oh Boy".
Two premieres in one day.
Yes, for our colleagues from Kiss FM.
Exactly.
And I thought that I should come and talk to you about some things for the "Un site
de muzica", to catch up.
I was eager to know your questions.
You'll see.
The interview just started.
I have a lot of interesting things to ask you.
So today is Saint Mary's Day and also the day of The Romanian Navy.
And I know that your father is a sailor.
Well, actually it was.
Now he's retired.
He was a cook.
How was for you to live far away from your father?
I have some friends from Constanta who are sailors and they told me that is difficult
to be away from your family.
It was hard because he couldn't be present for important moments in my childhood, but
I felt also lucky with his gifts.
I had rollerblades, cool sneakers with lights, things almost inexistent in Romania at that
time.
Nice!
But I believe that in Constanta this was the case for most of the children.
Yes, yes.
My best friend's father is a sailor even now, he's the captain.
Andra is one of my friends, the girl with the red jumpsuit from the Noi 2 video.
I didn't know.
So you should check Noi 2 video.
Let's talk about this song.
Did you produce all of it?
Well, I worked with other talented people like Chriss JustUs, he's a rapper and he
knows how to find the best lyrics.
For the music, I worked with Christian Tarcea and with Alex Parker.
And also Larry Popescu.
He's a very talented boy.
What's the deal with Alexandra Stan Records?
Is it a necessity to have your own label or is just a trend?
How is it for you?
I wanted to be more independent.
So now you aren't signed with other labels in Romania.
These are details about contracts…
I wanted to create something to support myself, my music, to demonstrate to myself that I
can be independent, not only to me but to some other artists.
I wanted to see how the things are done by your own: to find the songs, to shoot the
videos, to employ people.
Now, my team, us, we are like 10 people.
It's not a big team.
It's me, Bogdan…
Bogdan is Alexandra's lover and now he's also your booking agent, right?
Yes, my booking agent and my manager…
In my team there's also Alexandra Linte, my project manager, and social media girl,
Diana, who's the PR and who does everything that is about communication and online stuff,
Alis, my day-to-day project manager, I also have some guys for the legal part.
We are not so many, but all these people are important.
And my online guys, from Youtube, Facebook.
This is my team.
And for the concerts, I have another team, of course.
Yes, you have the dancers also..
Yes, another team.
Tour manager… it's a different team.
By the way, I saw that you just surpassed 1 million views on Youtube on the Noi 2 video.
I believe that's good in only 6 days.
It's really good because it's an organic reach.
Did you notice the pointed word, right?
Organic…
What's the feedback?
It's very good, especially because I was a little nervous releasing the song almost
at the end of the summer.
Well, one of the disadvantages of having your own label is that you don't have an army
of people to do the stuff.
So the release was a little delayed.
And I experienced for many times something not so cool like I wanted to release a song,
a clothing line, but meanwhile I did the preparation somebody else had already released something
in the same idea.
Yeah, I know, and then you can't release it because everybody will say that you copied
it.
We are living in the speed era.
That person who does a thing for the first time will be the trendsetter.
So if you thought that being an international singer and an important one it's mandatory
to have an army of people behind you, well, Alexandra Stan proves the contrary.
She decided to make her own record label… also there are days when the makeup is done
at her home and the lyrics are composed in just one day.
Even these big artists like Rihanna… they record some of their songs on the road, in
their hotel's room when they are on tour.
I experienced something like that when I was in Japan for the promo of my new album, and
then, after some months, I return to the tour.
So yeah, even Rihanna records her songs in strange places.
Did someone told you that in the "Boy Oh Boy" song you sound like Rihanna?
Yes, and honestly I'm a little bit annoyed with it.
Of course, it's a compliment also, but some people believe that I try to copy Rihanna
and it's not the case.
Our voices have similarities.
When you listened to the song for the first time, did you thought that the people will
compare you with Rihanna?
Yes, but with what song is Boy Oh Boy alike?
Oh, no, I told you that you have the Rihanna attitude, not that the song is like one of
hers.
This song was very easy to produce, just in one day.
I was at the Demoga studio, where I worked with Alex Parker who works with Marius Marica.
And Marius Mirica invited me to create something with him in the studio.
I said yes and we did this song.
So cool!
Yes, and it was our song made together and I believe it's such an amazing song.
It's very nice, I like the song a lot.
I don't care what people say.
I mean that my fans love the song and it's enough for me.
Maybe it's not a breaking hit, but it says that a song needs to be promoted for 6 months
and then you can see the results.
For example, "Saxobeat" became a hit after 9 months after the release.
Yes, I remember, it was an international hit.
And I like that the successful songs are coming to life by mistake or in just one day of work.
I believe that you're now free to release whatever you want.
The people know you… and you can be you 100%.
Yes, and I'm so grateful to my fans.
They like me whatever I do.
They support me and they are with me always, writing me comments and emails everyday.
When I came back home I have like 180 emails of my fans with their address to give them
gifts from me, like autographs and albums.
My fans are devoted and engaged, they are with me from the beginning.
After all, you should do just what you feel.
Yes, and you have time to grow organically.
It's not a race.
I appreciate that you want to do everything with transparency and naturally.
I think this is the most important thing in an artist life.
I noticed that are some artist with huge success especially for choosing to be themselves.
It's very difficult to have a big hit known worldwide and then to try to stay at the same
level all the time.
It's haaard.
I tried like for many years to have a new "Saxobeat" song, but it didn't happen.
I did dozens of songs, with so many producers and labels, but in vain.
My conclusion is that you have to do what you feel.
You're lucky that "Saxobeat" gave you a huge success and then you had the opportunity
to release whatever you wanted.
Also, it's quite interesting that you moved back to Constanta and you have now two cats.
Well, the second one has itself adopted.
Mitzy come to our house, become friend with Herky and then he stayed.
Mitzy has learned to come to our apartment through the window.
Do you stay on the ground floor?
No, at the first level.
Mitzy climbs a tree and then comes to the window and opens it.
And I thought that you adopted him by your choice!
And he's so fat because he has many families, even my neighbors from the second floor give
him food and treat him like their own.
Mitzy's very friendly.
I know that you are very close to your nephews.
What kind of mother will you be, how do you imagine yourself?
I would love to have one, two or many children.
But it didn't happen for now.
But if it will happen, I will be very happy.
You're not afraid of losing your career...
And I don't support the contraception.
Well, you should protect yourself, but if you are in a serious relationship like Alexandra...
I mean you can protect yourself by not having sex with everybody.
It's better to have a serious relationship, that's for sure.
I'm not a hypocrite or a saint, I had in the past other relations, but from my experience,
I can tell that is better to have few partners.
I know that the men are happy to have more partners, but it's not safe.
Yes, cases and cases.
I'm not the type to write down my conquer list.
It means that you don't have to prove anything.
Yes, I know who I am, what I can and I don't have to prove no one anything.
You know me, I'm a father of a little girl..
Really, do you have a girl?
So cool.
Yes, Ingrid, two years old.
Wow, so nice.
I didn't know.
Yes, and our interview will be also posted on my blog: daddycool.ro.
So cool!
By the way, I know that you have a blog too.
Yes.
I saw that you told your fans about the mini vacay at the Techirghiol.
Yes, at the mud therapy.
You can check the blog at the Alexandra-Stan.com.
Alexandra.Stan.com was taken by Marcel Prodan and I didn't want to go to the court also
for the website.
It was better to make a new website.
How was that period for you?
I had difficult times, stressful ones, but it's been awhile since then and the impact
has diminished.
But I had moments when I was really defensive with anyone, I tried to defend myself.
You've been traumatized.
That's why you reacted like that.
I really liked "Thank you for leaving".
What a strong message and such a good video…
But in Romania, it wasn't a success.
Yes, and the pop rock come after all in Romania too.
Like you said, you can spend a lot of time in the studio and the song doesn't take the
tops by storm, and then you spend only 10 minutes and you release something big which
can become an international hit.
The important thing now is that you are on the right track, you have supportive fans,
you're living in your hometown..
You know what..it's not healthy to be always on the run of becoming the best.
You'll be running and the impression will be that you arrived the last one.
You run and run for more money, more songs, and after a while, you wake up being 40, no
family, no lover.
I believe that the equilibrium is the most important thing in life: to have success,
to have fans, but to dedicate time to your family also.
Like you, you already have a family.
Yes, and I recommend it to you.. .all the things will be different.
Ingrid helps me to realize that I can more and that it's not good to limit myself.
I used to do like to: to put pressure on myself, to do so many things, but now I'm very relaxed
and happy with my little girl.
She's my energy.
I wish you to know this feeling.
I'm sure.
Now I'm very happy with my cats, I can't even imagine how happy and excited I will
be with my kids.
Some people ask me "what's the most beautiful moment in my career".
To be honest, I'm very happy while I'm riding my bike in Constanta.
I enjoy simple things that can't be bought and the effortless ones.
Exactly!
But, of course, I won't ever give up music.
The music is vital to me.
It's obvious that the music is part of who you are.
I couldn't live without music.
And on the 20th September, I bought tickets for Los Angeles to live some time there.
Nice!
And you're leaving for LA on holiday or for work?
Both!
I'm going to work in some studios and I'm very open.
I want to know as much as many people.
I'm gonna network a lot.
The life is about networking.
Yes, I want to know people, to connect with them…
I have 3 months to spend in LA to see what life has prepared for me.
Maybe I will become an actress at Hollywood.
Do you want to be an actress?
Regarding that you are a musician.
Well, I think that my face will sell in a movie.
I'm curious what the producers and the directors from LA will say about me.
And soon you will release a new clothing line…
I know that you already had a clothing line with an important brand in Japan.
You are the real deal!
Anyway, "Saxobeat" is still on the radio stations in the US.
Exactly, you go there and you say that you are the "Saxobeat" singer.
Yes, I already have friends there, Romanians and Americans, who are eager to meet me again.
Do you go with Bogdan?
Yes!
And maybe the NGM boys will come too, Bogdan and Alex.
So you will have a real squad.
Maybe you will record a documentary about your road in America.
Or maybe some series...
Yes, online videos.
I will ask my Romanian fans to pray for me to become a Hollywood actress, to gain different
roles, and I will promise that I will promote Romania to have more tourists.
What do you have to learn from this interview is that the things aren't simple, but they
could become simple if you'll do what do you feel and if you work for what do you want.
Alexandra is going to LA to be a singer/actress.
And I'm glad that she's leaving because I'm going to Belgium too to learn at an
acting school and then I would love to fly to LA also.
I'm waiting for you.
Aaand, in January, in Japan will be released a movie about a nun and I did the theme soundtrack
for this movie.
Ohh!
So in October, you'll go to Japan to shoot the video for this movie.
Is it a series?
No, it's a movie, actually a comedy.
And the movie is nominated at the Movie Festival from Hong Kong.
So in October will make a Skype with Alexandra from Japan.
But until then, see you next time with another artist as sincere and talented as Alexandra!
