What do most people do when they're playing poker and they have a weak hand
and they're trying to bluff? They're trying to make the other person think
they have a good hand well they always act confident they feign this
overconfidence and that's how good poker players can tell someone else is
bluffing how does this apply to social well there's a study by PLoS ONE that
just came out that actually verifies something that I've been talking about
for a while and I love backing any idea with empirical data because there's so
many people that teach those stuff they're like you might notice this no I
want the hard data to prove that something either works or doesn't work
now this study was done within a recruiting in an interview type setting
and basically to boil it all down what they found is that people used a higher
pitched voice when they were being interviewed by someone who they felt
like had high status but what does that communicate I thought this was actually
put really succinctly it says using a high pitched voice
would signal to an employer that the interviewee is not a threat and may
serve to avoid confrontations that's what you feel that's why people feel
when they're talking to their boss or someone who could have a big impact on
their life you want to talk like this hey how's your day that supplicate of
tonality they call it a high-pitched tone in this study because we don't want
to be seen as aggressive we don't want to give this person any reason to not
like us or to be off-put by us but the next line I think was really well put
which is in actuality what's happening in that interviewers or don't even think
about an interviewer think about anyone else you're talking to in public right
when you meet them it's the exact same dynamic you're communicating your
perceived status to them so how you think they rank up compared to you which
is powerful because as we know if you go up even if you go up to meet them and in
their mind they think you're some big dog super high status if you go up hey
how are you all the sudden boom your status right down here because what
you're telling him with sub communication is my status is way below
yours treat me that way so here's what it says the researchers found that there
was likely a relationship between the way people perceive their own status
and how they treat other people those who feel more dominant aren't concerned
with other people's dominance so they don't alter the way they talk so when
you go up to someone new or an interview or any social situation and you don't
change the way you talk you talked the way you would to a friend or someone
you're totally confident comfortable with in your mind he might be saying oh
I don't want this guy to think I'm trying to be tough I don't want this guy
to not like me but when you go up and you talk in the tone of voice that I'm
speaking to you right now what does it communicate what do you think after just
hearing that study it communicates that you're confident that you perceive your
social status to be all the way up here now this isn't a tutorial lesson but if
you're trying to improve your own tonality and the way you come across so
people see you as high value you can click right here to download the vocal
tonality checklist because you're coming from this video and get it for free I'll
go through five things that immediately you can implement to get a stronger tone
of voice and I want you to think about this I think this quote is really
powerful at the same time the more prestigious you feel the more calm and
relaxed you may be which may be why people started looking up to you in the
first place it's a self-fulfilling prophecy so when you speak with strength
and conviction and confidence well people are gonna start treating you that
way and then your subconscious tells you it's okay to act that way your
subconscious tells you your status is up here and it's just a complete snowball
that started with one thing and that's understanding how your vocal tonality
had an impact on your perceived status so intense so powerful if people just
understood with even 90% competence how their vocal tonality would impact their
entire life because think about one little small thing okay now you go into
the workplace on Monday and people just see you've got a little bit more
confidence and management sees you as a bit more like you'd be fit to be a
leader why they don't know why it's all in their subconscious but it's because
you're using a more calm toan now the trajectory of your entire
career changes now your self-worth changes now when you're on public you're
out dating people you're dating people who have higher
social status who are higher quality and you're comfortable with that because
your confidence has truly grown it's incredible how powerless is I get very
worked up about this because I'm passion about how it works so anyway try this
out try to be aware of your tonality if you don't know what that means grab the
checklist download it and go through it and then immediately be aware of your
tonality change it just a little bit and see how people change the way they react
to you see how they treat you do they start looking to you for advice and
guidance or just hearing your thoughts a little bit more than they used to be
because they're looking at you as an authority put this to work once you do
in the comments below I love reading this specific subject I
love reading about the thoughts and what happens let me know what happened
whether you're just going up to get a coffee or trying to new tonality you're
interacting with someone new and let me know that changes and also let me know
what was difficult for you was it hard to try the new tonality because your
subconscious is saying especially the higher-value
you perceive someone to be maybe not the barista at Starbucks but someone higher
quire value in your company your voice is streamin no speak with a supplicating
tone don't make it mad but when you do understand that if you do use that tone
that your subconscious is trying to sabotage you with it's gonna bring you
down here you're gonna be confident to use a stronger tone notice how things
change I want to hear about that in the comments box now that you've seen this
