EP061: Comic Book Origins - Peter Quill (Star-Lord) - Duration: 7:31.

[Main Theme]

Hello everyone!

And welcome to a brand new episode of MajestiComic.

In today's video, we are going to be profiling a character that has become insanely popular

in recent years due to his portrayal by Chris Pratt in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

As often happens, though, this character's backstory is a lot different on film than

it is in the original comic books.

So, with that in mind, let's take a look at the origins of Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord.

Created by Steve Englehart and Steve Gan, Peter Quill first appeared in Marvel Preview

number 4 in January of 1976.

He was presented as a rather unlikeable character who lived on Earth, and had a lot to learn

about the universe, and about how he fit into it.

Englehart's plan was originally to take this quote "unpleasant, introverted jerk"

and make him into the most important being in the entire universe.

His plan was to send his character to different planets and have him learn a new lesson each

time, sometimes about love, sometimes about war, and sometimes just about the planet in

general.

Eventually, Quill was to come to know more about the galaxy than anyone, but unfortunately,

Englehart's vision was never quite realized.

Not long after he established Quill as an unlikeable, arrogant jerk, Englehart left

Marvel, and the character was stuck with the partial story he had been given.

Over the next few years, the character was reinvented by Chris Claremont, who inserted

Star-Lord into stories that were less astrological in nature and more akin to science fiction.

This led to trouble for the character too, though.

Claremont, like many others in the comics business at the time, was inspired by ideas

created by other writers and artists.

For Star-Lord, in particular, Claremont was inspired by young adult science fiction stories

written by a man named Robert A. Heinlein about the exploration of space.

This might have been acceptable to a point... if the cover of Marvel Preview number 11 hadn't

declared that the story inside was quote "a novel-length science fiction spectacular in

the tradition of Robert A. Heinlein".

As Heinlein had nothing whatsoever to do with these stories and was never asked for his

permission to be associated with them, his lawyers threatened to sue Marvel unless they

pulled the issue and reprinted it.

Marvel, complied, and Star-Lord continued to appear in Marvel Preview and several other

comic series, such as Marvel Super Special, Marvel Spotlight, Thanos, and Annihilation.

In 2014, he even received his own solo series called Legendary Star-Lord, in which he was

given a different look so that he would appear more similar to the way he appears in the

Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Before we get to that point, though, we need to go back and find out what he looked and

acted like originally, before his story was taken to the big screen.

And to find that out, we need to start with his origin story, which begins when an alien

ship crash-lands on Earth, and its driver falls in love with a human.

When J'Son of Spartax, Emperor of the Spartoi Empire, crashes his ship on Earth, he is taken

in by a woman named Meredith Quill.

As J'Son works to repair his ship, the two fall in love, but unfortunately, it's not

meant to be.

When his ship is repaired, J'Son has to return to his home planet to fight in an interplanetary

war, and he leaves Meredith alone on Earth, in the interest of protecting her.

He has no idea, though, that she is pregnant with his child.

Nine months later, on a night when many of the nine planets mysteriously aligned, Peter

Quill is born.

Even though he and his mother live on Earth, however, this doesn't mean that his childhood

is destined to be a normal one.

When he is just a little boy, his mother, for reasons even she doesn't quite understand,

feels compelled to quote "present him to the stars."

As he gets older, Peter becomes fascinated by space and science fiction stories, and

he decides that when he grows up, he will become an astronaut.

When he is only ten years old, though, Peter is orphaned when soldiers of the Badoon, a

reptilian species of aliens, come for him and his mother.

Their goal is to end any and all bloodlines that are bound to J'Son of Spartax, and

they kill Meredith.

When Peter comes home from school and sees her body, he tries to run away.

The Badoon chase after him until he finds a shotgun and shoots them with it.

Inside a closet, though, he finds something else as well.

It is another type of gun, one he has never seen before.

He takes this with him, and he escapes just as the aliens' ship destroys his home.

The gun he found turns out to be an element gun left by his father, and it looks enough

like a toy that he is able to keep it with him as he moves though orphanage after orphanage,

foster home after foster home.

In spite of everything, or perhaps because of it, Peter never loses sight of his goal

to become an astronaut.

Now, however, his motivation was different.

Not only does he want to explore space, he also wants to keep Earth safe from the Badoon

species that killed his mother.

Knowing about his desire to become an astronaut, one of Peter's mother's friends got him

a job at NASA.

While his job was officially a mechanic, he logged hundreds of secret hours on the flight

simulators, teaching himself to pilot spacecraft.

Unfortunately, though, he has an altercation with an astronaut, and is fired.

Panicked and unable to let his dreams of space flight slip through his fingers, Peter steals

a Kree spaceship and leaves Earth.

Like all hastily made plans, though, he wasn't able to pull it off without a hitch.

Not long after leaving Earth's atmosphere, the Kree spacecraft died, and Peter was left,

stranded in space.

Three days later, he is approached by a crew of what are essentially space pirates.

After a fight in which Peter subdues all the pirates and proved himself worthy, he becomes

a part of the pirate crew, where he is determined to learn as much as he can about space.

After pulling off a questionable job for the pirates, Peter realizes that his mother wouldn't

have wanted him to be involved with such petty and despicable crimes, and he leaves the crew.

After this, Peter meets his biological father, where he learns about his destiny to become

Star-Lord.

His father had been Star-Lord before him, but their ideas of what the universe should

be don't mesh.

J'Son thought that one man should control an entire galaxy, but Peter felt that, as

a living, thriving being, a galaxy should be allowed to exist freely, on its own, uncontrolled

by man.

Peter went on to have many different adventures in many different comic book storylines before

finally beginning a new Guardians of the Galaxy team (we'll tell you more about both the

old and new versions in a future video), which is what he is most well known for.

Together with a rag-tag group of aliens he grew to care for as friends, Star-Lord continued

to protect the galaxy by tackling threats before they happen, and stopping wars before

they began.

As you can see, this origin story is quite a bit different from the one in the Guardians

of the Galaxy film.

My Despacito Story │ Kovistories - Duration: 6:04.

Feel the rhythm!

The music!

Melody!

Yeah!

For the beginning I should say that

I'm really into Latin American music,

as you could already notice.

Yes, I'm a total maniac, it's like a hard drug for me

and Despacito is a really quality material.

But people in my country usually don't listen to

Latin American music so much, actually they almost

don't listen at all (To this music, of course). So hello, I'm the proud exception here,

I'm like the delegate of Latin American music,

so... it is so...

But with the arrival of Despacito everything changed.

The old prophecies came true, the meteorite fell down to the Earth,

fish began walking on land and I was thrown into paradise.

Despacito was everywhere.

I will compare it to something. Let's say that you really like chocolate

and ice cream. And this food, these delicacies begin growing all around you

on trees, on grass, you can just come and chip a piece.

It's yours, your favorite flavors, your favorite food, you can...

It's a paradise, how would you call it?

Despacito ruled the world. I was walking in a street, I heard Despacito.

When I was shopping in a supermarket, there was played Despacito.

I went to a forest and I heard the echo of Despacito.

Everybody was singing Despacito.

Even my dog was singing Despacito and my satisfaction

was higher than the Statue of Liberty.

Sorry, my cat was singing Despacito, I don't have a dog.

But... it was just Despacito!

Everybody knew Despacito. I'm sure that even the weird pilgrim

from the last cottage behind our town knew Despacito.

I know that maybe for you it's just totally normal when somebody

listens often to Latin American music,

but in my country it's just not common.

So when Despacito came, it was an enormous change, like boom, explosion

in comparison to some of those

interesting situations before when I was trying to

speak with somebody about Latin American music.

Many times it was something like this:

Hey, what do you listen to?

Eh, I listen to pop, rock and Latin American music.

Ah! Latin American music...

and

what is it?

Ok, ok, ok, this is definitely not the case

of everybody here in my country, but let's say that

the majority just doesn't listen to Latin American music.

But after the invasion of Despacito it was like...

Hey, you don't know Despacito? Where are you living, man?

And even better it was in the radio:

„Today in the morning we are going to play our

favorite song Despacito, which is the anthem of this summer."

And later: „Today we are going to play Despacito"

And one hour after: „We are going to play Despacito."

And when I switched to another channel,

let's say that it was a rock channel,

I heard: „What a beautiful day, I know we are a rock channel,

but never mind, let's play Despacito."

And on other channels: „Let's play Despacito."

„Let's play Despacito."

You can imagine how I was feeling.

Yes, perfect!

But step by step the great times were changing again.

Black clouds were coming,

as the God of Despacito was losing his powers in my country.

And once...

I went to a restaurant.

I went to a restaurant and I ordered my favorite meal.

It's pizza by the way.

And then...

Suddenly!

Despacito began playing!

Once again a great time for me,

however only for me.

The other people in the restaurant...

weren't so happy.

Actually it was something like this:

You want me to open it?

Yes!

What the bloody hell was that?

The feeling of being a stranger in my own country again...

Welcome, good old feeling, I missed you...

So I ate the pizza, went home

and played Despacito.

We all know those beautiful moments while listening to music you like

and reading only positive comments. Like...

Moving on! During my space journeys through the internet

I also found some discussions where some people

claimed that Despacito was created by Justin Bieber.

No, wrong answer!

Justin Bieber didn't create Despacito,

Justin Bieber made a remix,

here it is.

But the original song with the ability of

high-speed spreading all around the world

and also the ability of being stuck in your head for hours

was created by an excellent singer Luis Fonsi from

Puerto Rico.

And an amazing rapper Daddy Yankee from

Puerto Rico.

And there are many more good artists who make

great songs of Latin American style.

Like Ricky Martin,

the Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias,

or Shakira.

If you are interested, check out their music.

One more thing...

I'm totally addicted to these songs.

And I'm also addicted to likes,

so I will be enthused if you give a like to this video,

share this video, let it fly around the world.

And subscribe to my channel, it will cause me extasis.

See you soon

and the song is here!
