Hi all and welcome to this advice video devoted to the eyes protections for airsoft
You probably know, in France, the maximum authorized power of an airsoft bb gun is 2 joules
And it is therefore necessary to fit accordingly with protections that can withstand such power
A standard exists in Europe which is applicable to eye protection against all types of hazards including impact resistance which interestes us
You have probably already heard of it, it is the EN 166 standard
Then, the notation for the impact resistance of this standard is characterized by a letter
The B letter describes a resistance up to 6.19 Joules and A letter, a resistance up to 15.52 Joules
There is also the F letter but we are not interested because it describes a resistance lower than the 2 joules required for our activity
It will be necessary to verify that your ocular protections correspond to the EN 166 A or B standard
We can often meet other standards such as the Stanag 2920 or 4296, which are military standards but these are complicated to adapt to our leisure since it must be accompanied by the speed of the projectile in order to specify its resistance to impact
It is quite complicated to read so I forward you to the full article of the FédéGN about this topic in the description of this video to know correspondence with EN 166
But to make it simple: prefer ocular protections meeting the EN 166 A or B standard
Also be aware that wire mesh protectors in all its forms, do not meet any safety standards
I strongly advise against them since they do not meet any legal criteria of safety and often, the metal of which they are made of, has a really bad quality
Also, very important point, you do not know the quality of the bbs of the guy who shoots you
If he uses bad quality bbs, it is more likely to break into several small pieces that will pass trough the grid holes and there ... there is nothing left to protect your eye
Moreover, I find them very uncomfortable because they obscure the vision enormously so forget this type of protections
As we saw at the beginning of the video, you can forget your plans to use diving, skiing or welding goggles
In airsoft, use only suitable protections according to EN 166 A or B
Also, forget all the cheap protections from Asia, they do not meet any standards and for me are dangerous for your physical integrity
Also make sure that your protections are equipped with a standard maintenance band, indeed, in the action, simple glasses can slip from your nose and insurances, in most cases, does not cover you if you do not have a such a band on your ocular protections
Be wary also of the copies, whether they come from Asia or from Eastern Europe
It is not because a mask looks like a well known model, that it enjoys the same protective characteristics
Make sure that your protection covers the whole of the eye and that no bbs can pass under the glasses
I have already seen a player hit in the cheekbone by a bb that ricocheted on it, passed under his glasses and hit directly his eye
He was very lucky that the bb lost a lot of speed but I never saw this player again on an airsoft field ...
For glasses wearers like me, know that there are protections models that accept inserts to install glasses to your view
If you are more of a cozy kind, or you want to protect yor face, you can also adopt a complete facial protection with paintball like masks
Finally, the number 1 enemy of the airsofter is the fog so try to choose an eye protection whose lenses are treated against moisture
There are also glasses with ventilation system that chase moisture with a constant air flow but are often, they are expensive
But you can also use diving mask sprays that also fight against this phenomenon but be careful, they are quite abrasive and so only use it if your mask is not anti-fog treated
Otherwise the good old solution of the dishwashing liquid spread on the finger on the whole surface of inner glass and gently wiped with a cloth, is working very well
Personnaly, it works until the lunch break and in addition, it feels good
In any case, never remove your eye protections on the playing field, go to the safe zone if you really have an emergency
In conclusion, my main advice will be to not take any risks and to not play with your physical integrity
Eyes protections should be your first expense to consider, before even buying a bb gun
Those ones must be of high quality, comfortable and meet the EN 166 A or B requirements
