NICER Mission Overview - Duration: 2:06.

[music] Coming soon to the

International Space Station,

a multipurpose mission leveraging

X-ray technology to uncover

mysteries of the universe.

It's

nearly impossible to measure the

sizes of neutron stars directly.

They're only about the size of a city

and very far away.

They're very interesting in the sky to

to study.

It's matter at the cusp of

becoming a black hole.

NICER's 56 telescopes will

make observations, enabling scientists

to determine how rotating neutron

stars - also called

pulsars - are put together.

What we're really interested in doing with NICER

is understanding - um -

really what the size of a neutron

star is. Cause once we know the size of the

radius of a neutron star very precisely,

then we can put constraints on

the density at the core.

And once you have an idea of what the density is

at the core you can constrain nuclear theories that

describe how the particles at

the core of neutron stars interact with each other.

In addition to

probing neutron stars, the

two-in-one mission will advance GPS like

navigation of spacecraft

throughout the solar system and beyond.

The embedded Station

Explorer for X-ray Timing and

Navigation Technology, or SEXTANT,

uses NICER's observations

of pulsars to demonstrate this

potentially game-changing technology.

It's goal as a technology demonstration

as part of the NICER mission,

is to try to turn the "G" in GPS

into "Galactic."

We want to use pulsars - this particular

type of neutron star that spins

hundreds of times a second that emits this

atomic-like clock signal for us

to receive. And so we observe

multiple pulsars and stitch together a solution

by looking at those precision timing

signals from those pulsars to construct a

spacecraft orbit determination solution.

Both NICER and SEXTANT

benefit existing and future NASA

missions and will further

expand humankind's understanding and

exploration of the universe.

Google unveils plans for its VERY trendy new £1billion London HQ £1billion super headquarters - Duration: 2:33.

Revealed: Google has unveiled final plans for its luxury £1billion UK super headquarters close to Kings Cross Station

Google has submitted plans for the 11-story building to Camden Council - 2 years after boss Larry Page ordered previous extravagant plans be ripped up because they were too boring

Grand: The design has a rooftop 'field' with running track and walking zone to ensure 'wellness' for up to 7,000 staff

The new office has been likened to a giant playground for staff and has a swimming pool pencilled in for use by staff

Space: There is also large auditorium for staff presentations and also could be used to show films and other attractions

Inspiring: Described as a 'groundscraper' because the building is hundreds of metres long - its designers believe that when completed it will be one of the best places to work in the world.

Location: Google is proposing a super campus in London that eventually will house 7,000 staff in up to three buildings likely to be joined together

Light and airy: The office is largely open plan and Google's new headquarters will be the first wholly-owned and designed Google building outside the US

The roof includes 'pause areas' surrounded by meadow and woodland plants and a large rooftop cafe providing free food and drink for staff and visitors

Keeping fit: It contains a large indoor sports hall for games of basketball, football and badminton during and after the working day

Well connected: The 'groundscraper' will overlook the platforms at London Kings Cross Station - a decision on the plans is likely this year.

Described as a 'groundscraper' because the building will be as long as the Shard is tall - designers say when completed it will be one of the best places to work in the world

Work life balance: The large rooftop garden is designed for relaxation, escape from work, exercise and meeting friends and colleagues

Current HQ: This is one of Google's three central London offices, a 160,000 sq ft hub near Covent Garden, and Google has at least five sites in the UK

Colorful Ducks The mandarin duck is a perching duck species

found in East Asia.

family, having a body length of, 40 to 70 cm and a body weight of 4 to 9 kg.

Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold

Fennec foxes Fennec foxes are playful and social creatures

that live in the sandy Sahara and North Africa.

They are the smallest of the world's foxes at 9-16 inches, and use their 6-inch-long

ears to radiate body heat and keep cool.
